He’s already lost everything else… he can’t lose him, too.
Jaxon values very little in his life, but what he does value? Football, school, and his best friend, Blaze.
But an injury takes him out of the game permanently, and it bleeds into his schooling, making it hard for him to study, to do his classwork, and attend classes.
Blaze is his only constant, the one thing in his life that hasn’t changed.
Somewhere in the midst of the chaos his mind has become, Jaxon is falling in love with his best friend.
Problem is, they’ve both always been straight. He can barely make sense of his own feelings, much less fathom a reality in which Blaze falls for him, too.
But if there’s one thing Jaxon knows… It’s that fate always has its own plans.
**Please read the “Note from the Author” at the beginning of the book before deciding to read.
West Greene is a romance author that specializes in short, steamy books and erotic shorts.
All your instalove needs can be found in one of her books, whether you're looking for possessive men, men with no morals, spicy FF romance, a boy just needing his Daddy, a twink just needing love, or even the other woman to get her HEA.
West Greene refuses to be stuck in one trope or type of romance. She loves variety, and she's definitely going to share that variety with her readers.
This story is a quiet, emotionally grounded exploration of identity, loss, and the fragile space where friendship begins to shift into something more uncertain.
At its core is Jaxon, whose sense of self has been heavily shaped by structure and physical certainty—football, school, and routine. The injury doesn’t just take away a sport; it destabilizes the framework he has built his life around. That loss is written as both external and internal, affecting his ability to function academically and emotionally, which makes his perspective feel increasingly fragmented and vulnerable.
Blaze functions as the stabilizing force in his life, but that stability becomes complicated as Jaxon begins to reinterpret their relationship. The shift from friendship to romantic awareness is handled through confusion rather than clarity, which feels appropriate for a character who is already struggling to orient himself after a major life disruption. The emotional tension doesn’t come from dramatic events, but from internal resistance—Jaxon trying to understand feelings he doesn’t yet have language for.
What makes the premise effective is that the romance is inseparable from grief. Jaxon is not just navigating attraction; he’s also navigating identity loss, dependency, and fear of change. Blaze, positioned as his “constant,” becomes both comfort and uncertainty as the emotional stakes rise. The story seems to ask whether closeness born from stability can evolve into something romantic without destabilizing everything else.
The emphasis on both characters previously identifying as straight adds another layer of internal conflict, but the narrative appears to treat this less as a label-breaking moment and more as a gradual emotional re-evaluation. That framing tends to resonate most in stories that prioritize introspection over external drama.
The author’s warning at the beginning suggests there are heavier themes or tonal shifts ahead, which likely reinforces that this is not a light sports romance, but something more emotionally complex and potentially difficult.
Overall, this is a slow, introspective coming-of-age romance that uses injury and loss as a catalyst for emotional redefinition. It focuses less on instant romantic resolution and more on what happens when the person who has always been “there” starts to feel like something more—at exactly the moment everything else is falling apart.
4.5 stars This is going to be one of my favourite books from West Greene. We already met both MCs in Hating You duet and since they were kind of loud idiots, I didn't not expect for this story to be so beautifully emotional.
The story is set a couple of years later, when Jaxon, Blaze and Hunter are all in college and play football together, while Samuel is working as a mechanic. Blaze and Jaxon are still best friends and live together and they've apologised repeatedly to Samuel for how they treated him in high school. The story starts after Jaxon has been in a medically induced coma and he's currently dealing with the aftermath of the severe head injury, result of a very bad hit on the field. He suffers from continuous migraines, blurred vision and short memory loss, studying has become almost impossible and he's drowning in pain and despair. Blaze has been his sole comfort through all of it: Jaxon had some pretty bad thoughts about his life and the only thing that kept him sane and prevented him from making horrible final choices was Blaze. As a matter of fact, Jaxon's feelings for his best friends have been slowly turning into something more deep and romantic. Blaze feels the same: seeing his best friend unconscious at the hospital and realising he could have lost him forever, it awakened his true feelings for him.
One thing I loved very much was that their emotional intimacy had more attention than their physical one: their connection is strong, Blaze knows exactly what Jaxon needs and doesn't hesitate to give it to him, while Jaxon is not scared to lean on his boyfriend and he's not ashamed to ask for help. These two are really meant to be together.
What prevented me from giving five full stars: I needed more from the epilogue and I hope the author will give us another story in this universe to let us know how Jaxon and Blaze are doing.
It was lovely to see Hunter and Samuel again, they have the same personality but they also matured and they're less impulsive. And I appreciated that they actually helped Jaxon and Blaze to admit their feelings instead of letting them just pine for each other.
Very much recommended.
I received an ARC of this book from Booksprout and this is my honest review.
Jaxon is never going to be able to play sports again, a nasty tackle in the last football game he played has left him with a head injury that causes short term memory loss and terrible migraines. There is more than that too and the whole experience, the pain, the losses, they are all becoming too much for Jaxon.
Blaze, Jaxon's best friend and roommate sees all this unfolding, has bee by Jaxon's side for years, was there when he opened his eyes in the hospital after the accident and refuses to let him suffer alone. His intervention, with the help of some other friends, is vital and life-changing for Jaxon.
There is so much more to this story. It has a depth which is incredible for a novella but that just works. Neither Jaxon nor Blaze have ever considered themselves anything other than straight and yet there has always been, for each of them, a deep-rooted love for the other. The accident and subsequent events change not only their plans but also their relationship. They are not quite as straight as they thought but only for one another and will defend one another through anything no matter what. That includes Blaze stepping in to have Jaxon referred to a specialist, an action that is, once again, life-changing.
Passionate in the way that only best friends can be - loving yes but also passionate in their belief of wanting nothing but the best for one another - romantically passionate - sensitive and tender. The medical issues are dealt with compassionately and readers who are also migraine sufferers (as I am) will perhaps feel a deeper connection to the story. The sport may be a no-go for Jaxon but he still has the rest of his life and he has Blaze. A story that hits all the right spots every time.

Game Over: MM Friends to Lovers Sports Romance by West Greene absolutely wrecked me—in the best way.
Jaxon’s journey is heartbreaking from the start. Losing football isn’t just losing a sport—it’s losing identity, routine, future plans. The injury ripples through everything: school, confidence, mental health. You can feel how unmoored he is.
And through it all, there’s Blaze. Their friendship is the emotional backbone of this story. Blaze is steady, loyal, present. When Jaxon’s world shrinks, Blaze stays. That constancy makes the shift from friendship to something deeper feel natural and inevitable.
The “we’ve always been straight” internal struggle is handled with care. Jaxon’s confusion, fear, and quiet realization are so authentic. He’s not just scared of rejection—he’s scared of losing the one person he has left. That vulnerability hits hard.
And when Blaze starts to understand his own feelings? Game over. The tenderness between them is everything. The way they hold each other up emotionally made me tear up more than once.
This isn’t just a sports romance—it’s about identity, loss, healing, and choosing love even when it changes everything you thought you knew.
Emotional, heartfelt, and unforgettable. You will cry—but you’ll love every minute of it. 🏈❤️.

Wow such a beautiful pairing After a football injury, Jaxon is left with a chronic neurological problems. Such as short-term memory migraines and at times double vision. Thankfully his roommate and best friend Blaze is there to help him. He Also has his friends Hunter and Samuel there to offer support and some home truths. You see the problem is Jaxon and Blaze are in love with each other but both feel the other one is straight and would never have feelings for him. This is such a sweet read I totally understood Jaxon’s pain as someone who suffers with migraines and also has a chronic illness. And I can tell you right now that Blaze is an amazing supportive friend & soulmate who understands what Jaxon needs and when to leave him alone. Everything about this relationship connection chemistry is just stunningly beautiful. I’ve got to say I thoroughly enjoyed this Read.

This is book number 2 of the Love Game series and focuses on Blaze and Jaxon. Jaxon and Blaze have been best friends for most of their lives and teammates on their school's football team until an accident leaves Jaxon with debilitating health issues. Blaze and Jaxon have always considered themselves straight but their feelings shift towards each other after Jaxon’s accident. Blaze was so great for Jaxon and made sure to take care of him so well throughout his entire recovery process. Blaze was his number one advocate and did everything in his power to make sure that all of Jaxon’s needs were met. As someone who suffers from chronic migraines, my heart went out to Jaxon and all the struggles he was trying to manage. This was such a great story and a great addition to the series.

I really enjoyed this story, my heart really felt fore Jaxson and the struggles he now had to face. I loved how Blaze really stepped up when he didn’t even have to. But that’s what you do for the one you love, right. I loved how they both were in denial about the other, but how the relationship changes are shown in the story. Also how the accident changed Jaxson’s life in such a big way and how his life will be forever different. And how Blaze was continued to show and give support to him, in different ways.
Samuel was also really funny in this with how he messed with them and his banter with the guys. I enjoy West Greene’s mlm books and her writing, the stories are never long and it’s insta love.

”Game Over” is another fabulous story by West Greene. I absolutely love this I author. Their characters and stories are always top notch. She takes that even further with this story. You can feel the chemistry and connection between Jaxson and Blaze. The experiences Jaxson has after his accident are spot on yet sensitive at the same time. This story has all the feels and even redemption from “Hating You”. I always look forward to books by this author and hope that we get more of Blaze, Jaxson, Hunter and Samuel too.

Book 2 of the Love Game series. Can be read as a standalone but for maximum enjoyment read the books in series order.
'But if there’s one thing Jaxon knows… It’s that fate always has its own plans.'
The characters drove the storyline and they were so very appealing and likeable and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and exciting and well paced. World building continues to excel and impress. All in all a great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.
Kick back and enjoy the read!.

This was an amazingly sweet, touching romance containing a first time bi, GFY relationship between best friends, roommates and former teammates Jaxon and Blaze. It wasn’t all hearts and rainbows and skipping off together into the sunset (though I admit I LOVE those, unrealistic as they are), it was filled with pain and disappointment but still somehow managed to leave me with a goofy smile and wishing it never had to end. It’s super short and won’t take long to read but it’s guaranteed to leave you wanting more. 5 stars.

I absolutely love this book. I think it’s my new favorite book by the author. I loved that Jaxon and Blaze so easily accepted that they were attracted to each other and didn’t matter what gender they were. It was about the person. Blaze was so protective of Jaxon and was willing to do anything to take care of him. I also liked that there wasn’t no relationship drama at all, and they were sticking by each other. It was also great to see Samuel and Hunter again. Would 100% reread and recommend to others.

4.5 Stars This was a really good book. I enjoyed Blaze and Jaxon's story. Jaxon is living a altered life after he was hurt and his is struggling a bit. Blaze wants to anything he can to help his best friend regardless of his feelings. These two are sweet and caring but they also have their ups and downs. I really enjoyed the connection, care, and chemistry between these two. These two are able to support each other and get a really sweet HEA.

The harsh reality of how quickly the game of football can sideline one's life is glaringly obvious in this story. It's tough to watch how Jaxon deals with his constant pain, vision issues and headaches. However, having Blaze by his side and falling in love with his best friend makes reading his story worth it. And swoon over Blaze with his tender loving presence and his nurturing nature. So glad these two were able to take it from friends to lovers so smoothly.

Loved this Mm friends to lovers romance the unwavering support his best friend had for him after such a traumatic life altering injury was amazing to read about and the unconditional love they had for each other was absolutely adorable. The side characters also brought good moments in the book with support and love for their friends would definitely recommend.

I loved the way that Blaze knew how to take care of Jaxon and their whole friend group never gave up on him, but even were slightly firm with him when he didn't want to get out of bed or eat anything. Everyone was so supportive of them especially when talking about their feelings of each other.

I really enjoyed this story. This was a short but highly emotional story about two best friends realizing that somehow they could be more. The characters were amazing and so very real. It was truly heartbreaking watching them go through everything but I loved seeing how they handled everything.

I haven’t read the first book so I can’t comment on the side characters from that one or their story and I’m not sure if I felt like I was missing something or not.
I’d recommend if you like these tropes.

This is a charming, romantic short story. Jaxon and Blade are best friends, and both played college football until Jaxon couldn't play because of an injury. Now his life is migraines, double vision, and short-term memory loss. Blade will do anything to help Jaxon and take is pain away. Through all this they realize they have feelings for each other. I really enjoyed this book.
Jaxon and Blaze are best friends and roommates who change their relationship into boyfriends and lovers. A steamy awakening story with friends and dealing with sports related head injuries. I love the way Blaze is there for anything Jaxon needs.

Jaxon and Blaze are best friends. When Jaxon is injured and can no longer play football, Blaze is his constant. What he doesn't expect is to start to fall in love with Blaze. The problem is that he has never been interested in a man before, neither one of them has. Will they find that they could have something very special together?
Quick and easy read. I loved the close-knit group of friends and the support they had for one another. This was a good read and if you want an emotional read, I suggest this one! I didn’t feel like I needed to read the first book in the series before this—it just made me want to read it.
This is another great story from the author, this is Jaxon and Blaze’s story and is a short but emotional read about two best friends and how their connection and relationship changes and becomes so much more after one of them has an accident. Great read.
Blaze and Jackson make the leap of faith from best friends/roommates to lovers/boyfriends. A risk worth taking for someone who knows you best. An awakening and love worth fighting for.

Game Over is the second book in the Love Game series and can be read as a standalone. This was such a wonderful story and I loved the characters, can't wait for more in the series.
The way Blaze thoroughly worships Jax even before even falling for him literally had me swooning. To find someone that loves you that deeply is a dream. Love love love.
I gobbled this up!! I could have sworn I read the first book, Hating You, but apparently I didn’t (which I’ll be fixing real soon lol). I absolutely LOVE these two SO much. Jax and Blaze have been best friends for over seventeen years but after a horrible accident Blaze is the man to step up, help his bestie out and falling for him. My heart broke for Jax. I hope we see more of these guys in the future. 🖤🔥🏈🔥🖤
My favorite quotes:
• Jaxon: My chest tightened. I was a lucky son of a bitch to have a boyfriend who cared so goddamn much. Who wanted to take care of me on my terrible days and never made me feel like I was a burden or somehow too much.
• Blaze: “You’re mine,” I reiterated, just like I did every time shit got too hard for him to handle on his own. “Lean on me, baby. And don’t lose sight of where your home is, you got me? I’m your home.”
