Isla has been surrounded by monsters her entire life. She was raised with them, so it was only natural that she would date one.

Trapped in a world where she's nothing but a toy to be manipulated and used, she longs to escape.

She never expects to find salvation in the arms of her abusive boyfriend's father--a dangerous man with a penchant for violence. Yet somehow, he offers the safety and comfort she never expected to find in her hollow and jaded life.

Fast, dark, and unapologetically filthy.

🖤 The Premise

Isla is trapped in an abusive relationship with nowhere to go and no one to lean on—survival is all she knows. Everything changes when she meets Bryce… her boyfriend’s father.

Bryce recognizes the signs immediately. He grew up surrounded by the same kind of violence. He doesn’t pretend to be a good man, but there is one hard line he will never cross: he does not hurt women—and he won’t let his son keep hurting Isla.

🩸 My Thoughts

The first half of the novella was solid and did exactly what it needed to do. Bryce’s protectiveness anchored the story, and the early tension between restraint and attraction fit the dark tone without feeling rushed.

The second half moves much faster and leans hard into instalust. That’s not shocking given the novella length, but it did take some of the emotional weight out of the story for me. I wanted just a little more space to sit in the fallout.

The book definitely doesn’t hold back on the darkness. Bryce was easily the most compelling character: brutal, ruthless, and deeply morally gray. He may be the “safer” option, but he’s still dangerous—he just redirects that violence away from Isla and offers her stability instead.

"The men in your life burned you to make themselves feel superior because they weren't worthy of you. I'll burn the world and make you the queen of the ashes just to see you smile. If I have to, I'll cut out my heart to make you whole."

Isla felt believable throughout. She’s lived her entire life surrounded by monsters, so danger feels familiar. Her hesitation around kindness and her fear that escaping one cage might just land her in another made sense given what she’s been through.

"The reality of being a victim is that eventually, you learn to be a survivor. A caterpillar doesn't turn into a butterfly overnight. You'll get your wings. It just takes time."

The duet narration by James Cassidy and Heather Firth added a lot—and I was not prepared for the sound effects (👀). The atmosphere came through really well in audio, and I’m pretty sure I enjoyed this more because I listened to it rather than read it.

This was my first book by this author. Even though it’s technically third in a series, it works just fine as a standalone.

3 A Whole Other Beast Stars ⭐

It's a story of abuse, blood and gore. And the whole time I was thinking about the vicious cycle of it all. How being saved from an abusive relationship by someone stronger and darker is equally fucked yet kinder. So are you hedging your bets around someone safer but still stuck in the whole underbelly of it all?

"We’re all possessions, Isla. Some don’t realize it, some deny it, some hide it, while others succumb to it. Belonging to someone isn’t a bad thing if the owner knows your worth."

In this instance Isla is rescued from an ugly relationship by the father of her abuser. However, Bryce may not hurt women, but his hands are still bloody. Like my ramblings earlier, the whole situation is a mess. And I couldn't see the leap from son to father. There was no setting the scene for love here.

Once you get through the mass beatings and killings, there is a semblance of an unorthodox romance. An age gap, your father does me better because he's older, bigger, dirtier and secure. But I'll tell you what I hate? Rough sex cos that's the only way he can get off with a girl who's been abused her whole life. I can't rationalize it in my mind...

3.5 ⭐️

When you meet Isla, you already feel bad for her she done nothing wrong she just has horrible taste in men, aka her abusive boyfriend. Like 10 out 10 HORRIBLE!!
And it picks up super fast when she and Bryce meet at dinner and he sees what type of son he has. I'm glad he stood up for her and made sure his son got his. Bit he let him leave that moment but not Isla.
I'll be honest I thought Isla would be more scared of Byrce, but she did talk back and sassed him more than her ex. Which was surprising since she was terrified of the guy.

Bryce was everything you wanted in a psycho he was understanding, bossy, and oh so delicious with every word he spoke. We did have a show down between dad and son, and let's say bye-bye, songs.
A kink I'm not really sold on is "mommy" kink. Everything they did was hot and panty dropping, but the mommy name isn't for me. I rather take the daddy word.

Om drama (the boyfriend), no cheating, drama, sexy times, no virgins

Disappointing

Do not skip the TW/CW in the author’s note.

While the smut was somewhat enjoyable, I was taken out of the story by the pace in which everything happens at. It felt like I missed everything while being present for everything. And I wasn’t able to fully enjoy this.

In short, the story felt incomplete and rushed. The plot was all over the place. There were so many traumatic things brought into the story (Isla’s parents and abusive childhood but also that of her siblings, the alluded multiple abusive relationships, Bryce’s own abusive childhood) that I felt were more for shock value than to fully explain why these characters were the way they were. Why? The timeline of events, it’s like someone hit the fast forward button on x4. It felt like there was no time for me, the reader, to acclimate and feel something for these characters.

What is the genre? Is it a dark erotica or a dark romance? I also feel like if the genre had been more clear for me maybe I’d been able to enjoy it more? Maybe not. Maybe I could just boil all of this down to, “this wasn’t for me” but I should have been the target audience, I love Dark Romance, I enjoy Dark Erotica. Something about this story though just…ick

If your looking for a Dark and spicy short read with triggers, look no further.

When your boyfriend is an abusive POS, and it just so happens that his daddy knows how to treat a woman...I say when in Rome!! This book definitely gave off Daddy Dom vibes. And the spice was pretty on point considering the length of the book.

I definitely recommend reading the trigger and content warnings because this book addresses several topics that could be triggering.

It was surprising plot-heavy for a short read, everything felt well explained and not rushed?

This books needs holy water. Or maybe I need my eyeballs scrubbed 😂. Check the trigger warnings on this smutty novella because there are many and it’s not for the faint of heart.

Isla has been in an abusive relationship for awhile now and finds an escape through her boyfriend’s father. Bryce lives a life in shades of gray. He’s violent, depraved and has seen the darkness of life. He’s a kinky older man that wants to show Isla she’s a queen and he wants to be her king.

“The men in your life burned you to make themselves feel superior because they weren’t worthy of you. I’ll burn the world and make you the queen of the ashes just to see you smile. If I have to, I’ll cut out my heart to make you whole.” I trail my nose along her neck, inhaling her unique scent—a mix of Dove soap and something distinctly her, pure, strong, and beautiful. “I don’t want to hurt you, Isla. I want to fuck the breath out of you. I’ll make you call out for God and beg for the Devil.”

I think I liked this for the shock factor. It was filthy and I felt embarrassed reading it lol. I can always count on Mila to catapult me out of my comfort zone.

One thing I know is that Mila never misses.

Listen… this book/audiobook is practically… adult entertainment. From 50% onwards anyway. James Cassidy and Heather firth really took their roles extremely seriously! And it was GREAT! Haha. As with any Mila book, she has a skill of mixing actual character depth in a short amount of time. Something I appreciate. The characters feel real, even if we are only with them for a short and (mostly) fun time!

If you are ever in need of a great time pick this or any of her other books up!

Mila's books never disappoint me, if anything I'm always surprised. Every time I read her books, they get filthier and filthier, and that's not a bad thing! Bryce definitely gave off on the Dom/Daddy energy! The spice scenes were SPICING. I was sweating the whole time I was reading this book. This book is definitely dark, and I highly recommend you read the triggers/content warning before reading this book! If you're into DARK, and I mean, DARKKKKKK romance, this book is definitely for you!

Wow! This book touched on some serious situations and topics. Please if you have triggers make sure to check them before reading this!

I was stunned at how well the issue of domestic violence and abuse was portrayed! Mila once again took my breath away. Bryce and Isla’s chemistry is so amazing. I love how Bryce was hard yet still caring… dangerous yet still protective! It took a bit for Isla to come out of her shell but damn when she did… she burned up the pages!

All of Mila’s books keep you wanting more! Page turners every single one of them. This one was no different!

unforgettable, addictive, and beautifully performed.

Wow. Just wow. Your Daddy Does It Better completely consumed me from the first chapter to the last. Mila Crawford delivers a dark, emotional, and sinfully addictive story that’s equal parts raw pain, forbidden desire, and unexpected redemption — and the audiobook performance takes it to another level.

Before diving in: check your triggers. This story includes heavy spice, a significant age gap, and domestic‑violence themes that won’t be for everyone. Mila Crawford does not write this one with training wheels it’s intense, messy, and emotionally charged from start to finish.

Now… let’s talk about Grant.

Because Grant is not “soft.” He is not “gentle giant.” He is possessive, unhinged, territorial, and absolutely locked in on Ava from the moment she crosses his path. And honestly? That’s the magic of this book. He’s the kind of man who looks like a threat to everyone else but becomes a safe place for exactly one woman.

Ava comes into this story bruised, broken, and carrying the weight of what she survived, and instead of trying to control her healing, Grant does something rare in this trope:
he gives her power.
He protects her fiercely, yes but he also submits to her emotionally, willingly handing her the reins so she can rebuild her trust, her voice, and her sense of self. That dynamic? Delicious.

🎧 On the narration .... James Cassidy
James Cassidy ate this performance. There’s no polite way to say it. His delivery as Grant is so locked‑in, so controlled‑feral, so perfectly calibrated to the man’s unhinged devotion that I genuinely don’t think anyone else could’ve pulled it off.

He gives Grant that deep, dangerous, “I will burn the world down for you” tone but he also threads in the softness Grant only shows Ava. It’s the kind of narration that makes you believe every possessive growl, every quiet moment of surrender, every promise he makes to her.

💭 Overall vibe
- Possessive MMC who is absolutely unhinged (in the best way)
- Age gap with real emotional stakes
- DV themes handled with weight
- A heroine who rises from survival to self‑possession
- A hero who protects her while giving her space to reclaim her power
- Spice that does not let up
- Tenderness that sneaks up on you

So yes. I liked it 😁

If there’s one thing about Mila’s writing, it’s that she’s going to give you a gut-wrenching story filled with depraved, unhinged characters that hypnotize you for every second of the three-hour listen. Her stories carry a kind of vulnerability not often ventured into—the kind that lingers in the back of your mind long after it’s over.
She knows how to deliver—both the story and the kind of steam that had me blushing for about 70% of the book.

FMC, Isla, comes from an abusive home and endures mental, psychological, and physical torment at the hands of her possessive boyfriend, Paul.

Bryce, Paul’s father and the MMC, is everything dark and dangerous—protective, manly, and marked by a violent past.
In each other, Isla and Bryce find something that shouldn’t make sense but somehow does: a gentle depravity, a hunger for belonging, and a rare, bruised kind of tenderness.

Narrated by the amazing duo of Heather Firth and James Cassidy.

Heather doesn’t just play Isla—she becomes her. This is the case for all of Heather’s work, she is phenomenal. Every emotion, every whisper of pain and hope, you feel it.

And James? He always wraps the listener in the straitjacket you never want to free yourself from.

Both exceptional in their roles, I was left torn, touched, laughing, squealing, and with my head in my hands from the heat.
I recommend listening to this audiobook when no one is around. You’ll thank me later. 🥵🔥

4⭐️ 4.5🌶️
This audiobook had absolutely no business being this addictive. I went in expecting a quick, spicy listen and came out wondering how Mila Crawford managed to fit that much chemistry into just a few hours. Once Bryce and Isla got going… yeah, I never stood a chance.

I really enjoyed the dynamic between Bryce and Isla. Watching Isla slowly find her confidence and take back control of her life made their relationship feel like more than just the spice, even though… the spice absolutely delivered. It was filthy, ridiculously hot, and somehow still managed to be playful and emotional at the same time.

I listened to this on audio, and I honestly don’t think I would’ve loved it quite as much if I’d read it physically. Heather Firth did such a great job showing Isla’s growth throughout the story, while James Cassidy completely embodied Bryce. His voice was smooth, commanding, and exactly how I imagined Bryce would sound. Their performances made the chemistry feel even more intense, and they brought so much life to every scene.

If you’re looking for a quick listen that’s heavy on the spice but still gives you characters to root for, this is such a fun one. It won’t take long to get through, but it’ll definitely leave an impression… and the audiobook is 100% the way to experience it.

Oh-My-Lanta!

I received Your Daddy Does It Better as an ARC. This is a short and spicy novella that you need in your life, especially if you are a fan of Daddy Kink. The amazing Mila Crawford took the daddy kink from her last book in this series, Forbidden Desires, and said hold my drink! This one is even filthier and dirtier and explores both daddy and mommy kink.

Your Daddy Does It Better is an ex-boyfriends dad, age gap romance where Bryce the MMC unalives his own son for harming Isla. Things get feral and hot quickly once he swoops in to rescue her. Don't be foolled though. Daddy Bryce is anything but a knight on a white horse. He is a violent criminal with a sordid past but something about Isla makes him want to be a better man. Once again, this is an excellent one handed read for when you just need something to take the edge off. Bryce is a filthy talking, feral, spanking, bre3ding, degrading dominant alpha in the bedroom who finds his match with Isla. Bryce gives her power back after being abused by wicked men for years.

Definitely check out her trigger warnings at the front of the book or on her social medias. Do not go in blind as there are a variety of tropes and triggers in this scorching hot book that are ON the page. Physical abuse and violence are very much the major themes of this story.

It was good short taboo read. The story line was good but the book could have a little more action scene. Overall, I enjoyed it.

Book Review:
What happens when your boyfriend is an abuser and you have no choice but to live with it? What happens when your bf beats you to shit even if someone looks at you for a second longer? What happens when your bf sends his goons to follow you everywhere and to get on his good side they report you back to him? What happens when one day your bf's dad invites you over for dinner? What happens when your bf loses his shit at his dad's place? What do you think will now happen? Will he keep doing dad or will some miracle happen to save you from death because last time he almost killed you? Will you be able to handle it anymore?

Tropes and T/Ws:

Okay, nobody picks this up because they’re looking for an in-depth plot (honestly, I listened to it because I could listen to James Cassidy narrate a phone book). That said, there actually was a lot more plot than spice than I was expecting. The spice doesn’t actually happen until almost 70% in.

It was short, spicy, and filled with so many dark, taboo things. I definitely discovered some kinks are not for me, but they were well-written and I’m sure others will enjoy them.

Some of the plot didn’t make sense (like how she’s a battered girlfriend after a traumatic childhood and she instantly goes “defiant brat” the moment her boyfriend is kicked out). But, I liked that he insisted she go to therapy and they take their time truly exploring each others’ preferences.

If you’re looking for something short, dark, and spicy, this might be for you. Just check your triggers 😉

This was a super quick listen - only 3 hours if you listen to it on 1x. I love James Cassidy and in this one he voices an unhinged, vengeful motherf***** who protects Isla, his abusive son’s girlfriend.

I knew from the start this was gonna be a stabby, spicy ride and Mila Crawford definitely delivered. We were given just the right amount of storyline for this to work in the short time we’re given. I would love to see more into Bryce and his mysterious background.

Unhinged example below 🫣
“Lonnie, Who do you think the OG hothead psycho was in the neighborhood, huh? Who could fuck a man up for simple breathing in his direction? Once, I chopped a man’s hand off and made him finger his asshole for shits and giggles, and that poor fucker didn’t piss me off as much as you have.” 🔪🩸

I guess it's fine if you're looking for a short, smutty read with plenty of trigger warnings. 🚩🌶️ I personally prefer more of a storyline, so I'm not going to judge it based on the length since I knew exactly what I was getting into before I started.

In the end, it didn't do much beyond helping me pass the time. 🤷‍♀️ But at least that asswipe Paul got exactly what he deserved. 😏👏
