This book is such a slow burn, but I absolutely loved it! The yearning and tension was freaking everything and every page just kept me going to see how long they can keep their feelings away. This is a big book, so it was a slow burn for a long time... but it's absolutely worth it!
This book is fun and cute, but it also has some sad moments and I found myself crying multiple times.

First of all, thank you for letting me read this ARC. I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity.
Unfortunately, this book just wasn’t for me.
That said, I do think it’s a fun and cute sports romance. It has all the right ingredients to make for an enjoyable read.
However, throughout the book I couldn’t shake the feeling that it borrowed too heavily from other ice hockey romances. Some of the names were the same, the weekly team dinners were there, and don’t even get me started on the team group chat. At one point, someone dramatically leaves the chat only to be immediately added back again. It’s an element that’s used repeatedly in another hockey romance series, where it genuinely adds to the story and makes the team feel like a real group of friends. In this book, however, it felt like the author included it simply to add a funny moment, but it was never really developed any further. Because of that, it came across as something that had been copied rather than as a natural part of this story.
It all gave me strong copy-and-paste vibes, which was such a shame because the actual storyline is different enough to stand on its own. It didn’t need all those familiar elements. Unfortunately, this feeling threw me off from the very beginning, and I never really found my way back into the story.
There were also a few other aspects that personally didn’t work for me:
First, the banter. I absolutely love good banter, but the constant back-and-forth between the FMC and MMC eventually became irritating. I understand it was meant to establish their dynamic at the beginning of the story, but after a while it just felt childish. Instead of creating tension, it made me wonder why they didn’t simply ignore each other if they disliked one another that much.
The FMC also came across as quite immature at times. Her inner dialogue often felt very childish. For example, when she nearly has a panic attack after seeing the MMC shirtless. They’re both in their thirties. I completely understand feeling attracted to someone and being flustered, but an actual panic attack felt like an overreaction. There were also moments where her inner monologue, especially when entire sentences were written in capital letters about Andrew kissing her, gave me second-hand embarrassment.
Another thing that stood out was the inconsistency in the narrative voice. Sometimes her inner dialogue felt like she was talking to herself, while other times it felt like she was speaking directly to me, the reader. It made the narration feel inconsistent throughout the book.
One thing that especially bothered me was the situation surrounding Andrew’s graphic novel. Throughout the story, Andrew is incredibly respectful of her boundaries. Whether it’s in their relationship, in bed, or regarding her career, he constantly reassures her that he doesn’t want to pressure her into anything she’s not ready for. Yet when he finally opens up about writing graphic novels and admits he isn’t ready to pursue that dream publicly, she completely ignores his wishes by publishing his work as an act of love. While I understand what the author was trying to achieve, it felt like a major violation of his trust. In my opinion, this deserved much more attention and a bigger conversation afterward. Instead, he forgives her far too quickly.
Despite my criticisms, I genuinely believe this book has a lot of great elements. The enemies-to-lovers (or rather dislike-to-lovers) storyline had a lot of potential, and I especially enjoyed the FMC’s career. I actually wish that aspect had been explored more, because I found it far more interesting than some of the romance itself.

This is a good beach read, and the text chains are a pretty cute plot device. It was a lot longer than I would’ve liked, and it might be better to have read prior books in the series vs. reading it as a standalone.

It is a great story.
It is been a pleasure to read a book where the main characters really dislike each other for years, and later they start to realize that the other one is not that bad like they thought.
I like how their relationship developed little by little.
It is a healthy relationship.
They are patience and kind to each other.
It gives visibility to a different kinds of family relationships.
I love the ending.
I am looking forward to the next book!

This scratched a hockey romance itch that I had in the sense that it was a sweet, slightly cheesy, but fun read. I really liked the established dynamic between Jules and Drew and I enjoyed getting to see it evolve over the book. The found family and the friendships both of them had were really special and added another layer to the book which was nice. I also loved Jules being a romance author, and I wish we got to see more of that. The tropes, while there were a lot of them, were done well and I thought for the most part they fit well into the story. That being said, my biggest issue with this book was the length. It was absolutely way too long, and for being over 500 pages, I needed way more drama and way more build up. It felt like the spice dominated the second half and I would’ve loved to have seen them break down each other’s walls and get closer to each other instead. So overall, definitely on the long side but I had a good time and will be continuing this series.

This book follows the relationship of Jules and Drew, who have known each other basically their whole lives and hated each other for almost as long.
I’d rate this book 3- .

Drew falls first and hard, there is a fair share of yearning and he is protective of Jules even when they ‘hate each other’.
The book is quite long though and for me it became boring by the end, so much so that I couldn’t really care about the characters anymore.
Some of the scenes felt flat and like they didn’t really provide anything in the development of the story.
Also him calling her beasty just gave me the ick.
Overall, sadly, this book left me more bored at the end than entertained.

Absolutely loved this book and couldn't put it down. Felt like this was gonna happen after reading Rebound. The vibes of this book were immaculate. Drew and Jules work so well together after Aunt Constance schemes to make them spend time together. Quite a bit of spice and some solid emotional moments. Absolutely loved this book and can't wait for Fake Play and Face Off.

Idk I found myself really struggling to get into it… I didn’t find the characters super likable so I think that played a part in it. Maybe I was just hoping for it to be a little different based on what the tropes were but it just did not meet my expectations at all

Ok so I read the first book. Enjoyed it. Started this book. Am enjoying the story.
However the number of errors in the text is infuriating! I cannot go on.
Wrong words, words left out which change the meaning of the sentence...

To be honest,starting this one I was really cautious because of the length,cause this girl is thick ,but after 200-300 pages,I really did not wanted to be over,and the way the story unfolded and things where constantly happening kept me locked on my Kindle.
Hill's writing,was truly magical.She created that found family,brotherhood,sisterhood vibe so well,and even having not read the previous Boston Titans I could easily catch the dynamics over there.I absolutely loved that enemies vibe that Drew and Juliet had that is oriented years prior to the story,but I have a question,how did those two managed to keep their hands off each other,FOR SO MANY YEARS?🤭
Because girl,that romance was out of this universe!Slow paced,pack with moments between those two,filled with laughs and many,many fights,the moment they gave in was PHENOMENAL.Like,I was loudly cheering for those two.They were exactly what each other needed,full with love,support,and that quiet push they both needed in different aspects of this life was on the hands of the other person.
Juliet,so unique beautiful funny and ambitious woman to begin with,and I forgot to add,drop dead gorgeous,was exactly the main character this book needed.What I specifically liked,is the way the hardships of her life was balanced in her character arc.
We saw grief,injustices and even more mature themes happening on her,and even that she never managed to lose her smile and ,of course,her sassiness.Drew on the other hand,was so funny to me,especially the way the other boys treated him,talked to him was one of its kind,but at the same time I really liked that we saw men being together and here of each other in the fullest version of the act.
Apart from the romance,it was seen that the impact of the people that around you is one of the biggest in your life.Juliet found her family and Andrew found his love,and none will ever change that & those two will never be altered or go down by no one and nothing.✨
Ending ,AMAZING BOOK,AMAZING ROMANCE & of course the best add to your TBR for this Summer💐

Drew and Jules have tolerated each other since childhood. Jules has been his sister's best friend and like a daughter to his parents for years. They have loved to hate each other almost the entire time. Their feuding was legendary and often someone had to step in to prevent harm and chaos.
When their friends and family leave them alone for the summer can they manage to be civil with each other? Usually they have friends, teammates, siblings, aunts, and grandmas to help keep them from fighting and causing chaos but now everyone is elsewhere. The promise to be a plus one for a wedding was the start of their summer. For one night they seemed to get along and even convinced her friends that they had come to a truce. Then after returning home, Jules nightmare began.
Jules lived with her aunt for the later part of her childhood, having negligent toxic parents who didn't care about her well-being. Her mother was narcissistic and vain and her father allowed his wife to cheat on him and hurt his daughter verbally, emotionally, and the scars linger even to adulthood. If Jules was happy they had to bring her down, her mother loved nothing more than trying to destroy her. They knew nothing about her career or the life she was building without their influence but if she showed any joy they would find a a way to try and control her. When this happens, Lavinia usually helped Jules but this time it was someone else.
Drew stepped up and became Jules unexpected saviour. He gave her a safe place to live and stood beside her while fighting her parents cruelty. He became her cheerleader and ally against the toxicity. Becoming unexpected roommates was a blessing rather than a curse for these two. Forced proximity gave these two a reason to call a ceasefire and get to know each other without the barbs and banter. They were able to become friends and they bonded over his dog. Jules got to see a side of Drew that she rarely saw and learned new things about him too. Things he kept hidden from everyone.
Soon the reason for feuding didn't seem important anymore. They were getting along and becoming closer. Then the newfound friendship blossomed into more. Denying the attraction between them became harder to ignore. Eventually temporary began to feel like it should be permanent. Though the thought of forever seemed foreign to both of them. When her parents started more trouble, Drew did not hesitate to stand beside Jules. He put himself in their path and put them in their place. He made them understand that their threats and insults would not be tolerated and that they would pay legally for their actions. He made sure Jules knew that his family would be hers and he would be hers for as long as she wanted him to be. He chose her!
I loved Jules and Drew because even though they seemed like the hated each other since childhood they were were still able to coexist when necessary. It seemed like there was something more beneath the surface but they needed time alone to explore that. Her parents wanted to control her but their plans backfired and she ended up finding her happily ever after. When their friends and family leave them alone for the summer can they manage to be civil with each other? Usually they have friends, teammates, siblings, aunts, and grandmas to help keep them from fighting and causing chaos but now everyone is elsewhere. The promise to be a plus one for a wedding was the start of their summer. For one night they seemed to get along and even convinced her friends that they had come to a truce. Then after returning home, Jules nightmare began.
Jules lived with her aunt for the later part of her childhood, having negligent toxic parents who didn't care about her well-being. Her mother was narcissistic and vain and her father allowed his wife to cheat on him and hurt his daughter verbally, emotionally, and the scars linger even to adulthood. If Jules was happy they had to bring her down, her mother loved nothing more than trying to destroy her. They knew nothing about her career or the life she was building without their influence but if she showed any joy they would find a a way to try and control her. When this happens, Lavinia usually helped Jules but this time it was someone else.
Drew stepped up and became Jules unexpected saviour. He gave her a safe place to live and stood beside her while fighting her parents cruelty. He became her cheerleader and ally against the toxicity. Becoming unexpected roommates was a blessing rather than a curse for these two. Forced proximity gave these two a reason to call a ceasefire and get to know each other without the barbs and banter. They were able to become friends and they bonded over his dog. Jules got to see a side of Drew that she rarely saw and learned new things about him too. Things he kept hidden from everyone.
Soon the reason for feuding didn't seem important anymore. They were getting along and becoming closer. Then the newfound friendship blossomed into more. Denying the attraction between them became harder to ignore. Eventually temporary began to feel like it should be permanent. Though the thought of forever seemed foreign to both of them. When her parents started more trouble, Drew did not hesitate to stand beside Jules. He put himself in their path and put them in their place. He made them understand that their threats and insults would not be tolerated and that they would pay legally for their actions. He made sure Jules knew that his family would be hers and he would be hers for as long as she wanted him to be. He chose her!
I loved Jules and Drew because even though they seemed like the hated each other since childhood they were were still able to coexist when necessary. It seemed like there was something more beneath the surface but they needed time alone to explore that. Her parents wanted to control her but their plans backfired and she ended up finding her happily ever after. They got what they deserved and Jules and Drew got a future that they had never imagined as possible. They both had more successes and accomplishments than they had dreamed of!

If you love tension in your romances, this book is for you! From the very beginning of Wild Card, Ava Hill sets the tone between our MCs beautifully. Obviously, there is more than meets the eye, but it takes some time for these two to be honest with themselves and each other. Book 2 in the Boston Titans series, Ava expands this world wonderfully. While this book can be a standalone, I highly recommend you read book 1, but it’s not necessarily needed.
Julie has a complicated relationship with her parents. They don’t tend to support her accomplishments, so she hides them. She is an accomplished author, but when her parents kick her out after seeing a photo on social media, she doesn’t really have anywhere to go. Her best friend suggests her brother’s house, but Julie isn’t that desperate…yet. This relationship is a constant tug of war between her quick witted tongue and him never wanting her to be right. Julie ends up accepting the invitation, begrudgingly, and ends up seeing a whole other side to her new roommate. I felt for Julie through this whole story. Having to hide your success from those who should lift you up the most in life is hard. Finally having someone in her corner was amazing to see.
Drew is planning on relaxing during his down time as his hockey season comes to an end. It ended on a high note, winning a Stanley Cup, but he is ready to spend time with his dog and complete the renovations on his home. When his sister’s best friend needs a place to stay, he isn’t thrilled to offer his spare room, but does, because he is a good guy. The close proximity allows him to see a whole different side to Julie as well. Normally very confident and sassy, he sees the relationship with her parents take its toll on her. Him finally admitting he has fallen for Julie had me kicking my feet. I mean we all see it coming, but it was done so well!
Ava definitely pulls her readers into this book thanks to the way our two MCs interact with each other. The saying “there is a thin line between love and hate” rings true in this book, while often the hate is just one or both people being dishonest with themselves about their true feelings. Julie needs to be cherished and celebrated and Drew gives this to her. I do love that Julie is the more complicated between the two of them, but finds and believes her worth. I absolutely loved reading this book and can’t wait for the next one!

Wildcard made me feel like a teenager again, and I loved every second of it. This book had me laughing, crying, cursing certain characters, giggling, and swooning all at once. I connected with Jules on such a personal level that I found myself pausing to absorb everything she was feeling because, in many ways, I had experienced those same emotions before.
I also loved seeing Jules set her boundaries loudly and clearly and, more importantly, seeing Drew respect and take them seriously. After everything she had been through, those boundaries were not only necessary but also a good thing to witness. I appreciated seeing Drew allow himself to be vulnerable while still stepping up and taking the lead when it truly mattered. The consent king!
Throughout all the bickering between Drew and Jules, the tension and unspoken feelings that simmered beneath the surface were impossible to miss. It was obvious to everyone but them. All they needed was a little push and some well intentioned meddling to realize what their constant bickering was really about finally. Their banter slowly transformed into protectiveness and eventually blossomed into something soft, heartfelt, and sweet.
This is a slow burn romance, the kind that makes you wonder how much longer they can keep their feelings hidden before finally taking that next step. The wait felt endless at times, but the yearning, tension, and emotional buildup made the journey completely worth it. And when they finally get there, you feel every bit of that longing right alongside them.

If I have to define this book in one sentence it would be “standing up”
Oh boy, the way I enjoy so much this dislike to lovers needs to be studied. I don’t even know where to start, this book was a rollercoaster of emotions that had me devouring each chapter, their chemistry was unmatched.
Jules and Drew were meant to be together even though they couldn’t see it past their dislike for each other. All the build up tension from years, all the bickering and the fights were the perfect foreplay and let me tell you that you could feel all that tension and it would have you blushing.
Let’s start with Jules, such a strong woman representation, someone that has a story that needs to be heard, getting to know her was a privilege and there is no way you cannot feel represented by her with certain topics. Something that I really enjoy was her weird mind and how she really drove Drew crazy with her thoughts.
On the other side we have Drew, and for me his story was unexpected but in a really good way and let just say he is now the newest member of my book boyfriends. I cannot explain how I enjoyed seeing him fall but falling so hard for Jules, realizing that the woman he thought he just didn’t get along was honestly the woman of his dreams. This man show us the perfect example that you show up for the people that you care, and that there are so many ways to support them. You see his love for Jules in every little detail and you will love him so much for that.
I couldn’t finish this review without mentioning their support system, I really enjoy seeing the team’s dynamic but what I love the most was the relationship between Lavina and Jules, they are literally the representation that sometimes your soulmate is that friend that has been by your side when you needed the most.

As I read book two in the Boston Titans series, I was immersed in Andrew Callahan and Juliet Love’s world as they navigated a relationship which could be best explained as frenemies, even though they are not friends. Their story follows on from Lavania and Roman’s story from book one.
Having known each other since age five, Jules and Drew share a mutual dislike. They maintain an amicable relationship solely out of shared affection for Lavinia, who is Jules’s best friend and Drew’s twin sister.
What I like about Jules is that she is pure sunshine on the outside, even though she secretly suffers from anxiety. She loves inventing different personalities for herself, even changing her accent when forced to talk to strangers. Her relationship with her parents is virtually non-existent; they are jealous people, which is why Jules keeps no social media footprint to protect herself from their harsh comments.
Drew is the captain of the Boston Titans hockey team and happens to wear glasses. He may be the bane of Jules’s existence, but she can’t help but think his glasses give him a certain "slutty appeal”. She could be right, as he hides a secret bedroom kink. Beneath the hot exterior, Drew possesses a gallant charm and a protective streak. Throughout the book, he comes to Jules’s aid without ever overshadowing her innate strength to fend for herself, marking him as a massive green flag. He even rescues her from homelessness after her parents kick her out of the apartment she grew up in with her great-aunt Gemma. However, Drew had better watch out: Jules and his sweet dog, Bailey, are forming a tight bond that might just steal his title as Bailey's favourite human.
I thoroughly enjoyed the masterful slow burn of this narrative. Ava brilliantly maps out the subtle shifts in tension as the romantic spark ignites between the leads. Witnessing their evolution from enemies to lovers is captivating, particularly as they gradually awaken to their mutual attraction. Since they already had a history, they possessed a head start, and neither of them gets scared off easily. I also appreciated that there were no secrets between them.

Having known each other since age five, Jules and Drew share a mutual dislike. They maintain an amicable relationship solely out of shared affection for Lavinia, who is Jules’s best friend and Drew’s twin sister.
What I like about Jules is that she is pure sunshine on the outside, even though she secretly suffers from anxiety. She loves inventing different personalities for herself, even changing her accent when forced to talk to strangers. Her relationship with her parents is virtually non-existent; they are jealous people, which is why Jules keeps no social media footprint to protect herself from their harsh comments.
Drew is the captain of the Boston Titans hockey team and happens to wear glasses. He may be the bane of Jules’s existence, but she can’t help but think his glasses give him a certain "slutty appeal”. She could be right, as he hides a secret bedroom kink. Beneath the hot exterior, Drew possesses a gallant charm and a protective streak. Throughout the book, he comes to Jules’s aid without ever overshadowing her innate strength to fend for herself, marking him as a massive green flag. He even rescues her from homelessness after her parents kick her out of the apartment she grew up in with her great-aunt Gemma. However, Drew had better watch out: Jules and his sweet dog, Bailey, are forming a tight bond that might just steal his title as Bailey's favourite human.
I thoroughly enjoyed the masterful slow burn of this narrative. Ava brilliantly maps out the subtle shifts in tension as the romantic spark ignites between the leads. Witnessing their evolution from enemies to lovers is captivating, particularly as they gradually awaken to their mutual attraction. Since they already had a history, they possessed a head start, and neither of them gets scared off easily. I also appreciated that there were no secrets between them.

This was a fun second book in the Boston Titans series.
I loved Jules from the first book and was thrilled to hear we got a story for her and Drew. There story was sweet and spicy although I did find their fighting in the beginning to go on a bit long. I understand a true dislike to lovers situation needs to have them fight and not like each other, but this time it frustrated me because it wasn’t like Drew was secretly pining and yearning for all these years so fighting with her to keep her distance because that’s what she wanted. I found myself yelling at them telling him to get over themselves and just say your feelings to each other already. But maybe that’s just me.
That being said Drew is a consent King and treats Jules with such respect and adoration and I loved watching him be soft, kind, and careful with Jules, both physically emotionally and mentally. I thought that was handled well and I appreciated seeing the two work through this together in a relationship and never once flincher or fault from making Jules feel safe.
Lavinia and Jules are soulmates and they will tell everybody they know. And I absolutely love that. Their friendship is so special I love their love for one another and how strongly, the advocate for each other. What an important thing to see in a romance book and quite frankly, in any book a relationship two women can have that’s support each other and truly love to see the other shine.
As it was for the first one, the side characters in the story were not lacking. We got to see the hockey players and the snack pack and the friendships, banter and fun they all brought to this story. I can see potential of where book 3 and 4 are going to go and I look forward to seeing what’s next.

And once they’re living together? Oh, it’s over. They start seeing each other in ways that made me want to pace the room like a Victorian ghost. Drew is the undisputed KING of consent, he won’t even think about crossing a line without Jules’ permission and Jules has a past that makes her terrified of making the first move, so the tension is so intense I felt like I needed to lie down. And alas, we have the story of Drew and Jules. I remember reading Rebound and loving Lavinia and Roman's story. It was so sweet and beautiful.
And now, reading Jules' and Drew's story is even better.
Throughout all the bickering, you can see the tension and the unspoken feelings that were there between Drew and Jules. It was obvious to everyone but themselves lol. All they needed was a little push, a little meddling so they can finally see what their bickering was all about.
I loved seeing Jules setting her boundaries loud and clear and Drew taking her seriously. After what she was put through, a little boundary was necessary. And im so glad she stuck up for herself, as well as having Lavinia in he corner. Even the whole Titans guys and the Callahan family were in her corner. She really deserved every ounce of love to make up from what she lacked growing up, except for when it came to her aunt. Also, the relationship between Jules and Lavinia is literally the definition of a platonic soumate. I don't even think that is a big enough and meaningful enough word to describe their relationship, but it was so nice and endearing to see their relatiknship together. I honestly do think if they didn't find the love of their lives, they would have married each other😅
I also loved seeing Drew be vulnerable at times, but also still taking the lead when he knows he needs to. But also the fact that Jules gave him as much confidence as he gave Jules. And honestly, who wouldn't love a nice hockey man, who wears glasses, is a bit of a dork, and has a dog!! Like he literally checks all the boxes 😍😍. I also liked seeing his relationship with his team and coach. It just really shows what matters to Drew and how, even though they annoy him on their text thread, he still cares about them deeply.
Also, Holden and his mystery girl👀 I can't wait to see whats up about that. AND Sage and Ford.!?! There is history there and I cant wait to find out what it is..

This is one of the best enemies to lovers books I’ve ever read! Jules (Juliet) Love has terrible parents and lost her beloved Aunt Gemma years ago who was like a mother to her. She is a successful romance author and has a popular podcast with her best friend, Vin (Lavinia) Callahan. Jules and Vin have been best friends since childhood and are as close as sisters. Vin is a twin and her brother Drew (Andrew) has been a part of every memory Jules has with Vin. Sadly, Drew and Jules are heated enemies and always have been.
Drew views Jules as kind of odd and witty, loud, and bright. They can’t be in the same room without arguing. Drew is a grumpy hockey captain with the Titans, and his team just won the Stanley Cup. His main love in life is his dog, Bailey. Drew feels like he lives in the shadow of his hockey famous sister Vin and his dad.
Jules has trauma from the past that she doesn’t talk about, and it results in her not wanting to be touched. She swears she will never date any athletes. She has a series of bad dates and then gets kicked out of her apartment by her own parents. Things are not going well for her. Jules is invited to the wedding of her two ex-boyfriends and Drew’s family coerces him into being her plus one to the wedding. This is the start of these two enemies being thrown together and calling a truce.
What makes this story special is the deep character development – not just the main characters, but even the minor characters are very interesting. Drew is part of a fun group chat with his hockey mates called The HoBros and Jules has a group chat with her girl group called The Snack Pack. These exchanges provide a lot of humor in the book.
As the summer unfolds, we learn more about the secret parts of themselves that Jules and Drew slowly reveal. This is a slow burn romance, and once unleashed, the passion they have for each other is electric! So, was it really love all along they had for each other, disguised as hate? Jules is the Wild Card he didn’t see coming.

I had such a good time reading this! If you love hockey romances with enemies-to-lovers, your best friend’s brother, forced proximity, lots of banter, and a cast of lovable characters, you’ll probably enjoy this one too.
The book was such an easy read that I flew through it in no time. I laughed a lot, but it also surprised me with some emotional moments. The storyline surrounding Jules’ aunt added a lot of heart to the book, and there were several beautiful moments that balanced out all the humor perfectly.
Jules and Drew were definitely the highlight for me. Their banter had me laughing more than once, especially with lines like, “I never know what to do with men if they’re not fictional. Am I supposed to pet them? Water them? Take them for a walk?” and “You need Dalai Lama levels of Zen to deal with men.” The HoBros group chat was another favorite of mine. That said, there were a few moments where the constant back-and-forth between Jules and Drew felt a little too childish for my personal taste, but overall I really enjoyed their dynamic.
I also loved seeing Drew slowly fall for Jules. “Are you sure you want to be my friend, Juliet?” and later, “To be touched by her would be my ultimate salvation,” absolutely melted my heart.
My biggest issue was the pacing. Some chapters felt a little rushed, and I found myself wishing certain scenes had lasted longer. Some scenes had so much potential, but they were over before I was ready to leave them. I also would have loved smoother transitions between chapters instead of jumping from one moment straight into the next.
Overall, this was a funny, sweet, and emotional romance with great chemistry, lovable characters, and plenty of memorable moments. It wasn’t perfect, but I genuinely enjoyed my time with Jules and Drew, and I’m looking forward to reading more from Ava Hills.

He knew all of her little quirks, how she took her coffee, and the small details that make a person who they are. He had been paying attention all along without ever realizing what it meant, and watching him come to the conclusion that Jules might just be more than his sister's best friend and soulmate was such a satisfying build up. 🥹
I absolutely adored Jules. She has been through some truly difficult experiences in her life, yet she always tries to show up as the best version of herself. I loved that she set boundaries and wasn't afraid to protect her peace. She's spent so much of her life feeling like she might be "too much," but as Drew becomes a permanent fixture in her life, she begins to realize that she's always been safe with him and that maybe she's not too much at all. Maybe she's simply waiting for the right person to appreciate everything that makes her who she is. ❤️🩹
The connection between these two was beautifully done. Their relationship was built on mutual respect, care, and support for one another. Even when their feelings complicated things, they never stopped wanting the best for each other or encouraging one another to grow.

Having not read Book 1 of the Boston Titans series, I was able to come into Wild Card with no expectations and with no knowledge of any of the characters. I absolutely adored how Ava was able to integrate enough detail about other characters that had previously been met in Rebound, that I was quickly able to catch up to speed about the background of these characters.
Our FMC is Juliet (or Jules). She is a fiercely independent and successful young woman who has always had an interesting dynamic with her best friend's brother Drew. When I say interesting, they constantly tease each other and say they hate one another. What neither of them seem to realise is that there is a fine line between love and hate.
All of this comes to a head when Jules is evicted from her apartment and with the rest of their friendship group away for the Summer, Drew invites her to come and stay with him, in his house. From there, their love is inevitable.
I absolutely adored the relationship that Drew has with his dog Rosie and then the one that Jules develops with her. It was also really lovely to read about how both Jules and Drew, as in any relationship, would push each other to be the best version of themselves, often with pushback from the one they are trying to help. This made the novel really realistic as often this can cause confusion and tension, which is shown so well by Ava.

Jules and Drew absolutely delivered on the slow-burn tension in this dislike-to-lovers, best friend's brother romance.
My entire heart went out to Jules. Not only have her parents dismissed every one of her accomplishments—including becoming a bestselling author and successful podcaster—but her mother actively goes out of her way to tear Jules down just to make herself feel superior. The way they treated her was absolutely vile. As if that wasn't enough, Jules is also carrying relationship trauma that has left her deeply distrustful of men. Watching her slowly realize that Drew can be her safe place to land was incredibly heartwarming.
Drew is exactly the kind of grumpy hero I love. Beneath the stoic hockey captain exterior is someone fiercely dependable, quietly protective, and completely incapable of letting Jules face things alone—not because he doesn't think she can handle it, but because he doesn't believe she should have to. Watching him patiently earn her trust after a lifetime of men who let her down absolutely melted my heart. And don't even get me started on all the ways this man is attractive: he's a dog dad, ridiculously clean and organized (HUGE green flag), ultra-competent with home renovations, and a firm believer in enthusiastic consent every step of the way. Total husband material.
Together, they're a perfect match. Their banter is sharp, their chemistry simmers from the very beginning, and every forced-roommate moment only cranks the tension higher. Jules and Drew absolutely delivered on the slow-burn tension in this dislike-to-lovers, best friend's brother romance.
My entire heart went out to Jules. Not only have her parents dismissed every one of her accomplishments—including becoming a bestselling author and successful podcaster—but her mother actively goes out of her way to tear Jules down just to make herself feel superior. The way they treated her was absolutely vile. As if that wasn't enough, Jules is also carrying relationship trauma that has left her deeply distrustful of men. Watching her slowly realize that Drew can be her safe place to land was incredibly heartwarming.
Drew is exactly the kind of grumpy hero I love. Beneath the stoic hockey captain exterior is someone fiercely dependable, quietly protective, and completely incapable of letting Jules face things alone—not because he doesn't think she can handle it, but because he doesn't believe she should have to. Watching him patiently earn her trust after a lifetime of men who let her down absolutely melted my heart. And don't even get me started on all the ways this man is attractive: he's a dog dad, ridiculously clean and organized (HUGE green flag), ultra-competent with home renovations, and a firm believer in enthusiastic consent every step of the way. Total husband material.
Together, they're a perfect match. Their banter is sharp, their chemistry simmers from the very beginning, and every forced-roommate moment only cranks the tension higher. This is a true enemies-to-lovers where you find yourself lost in a lot of quick comebacks, spicy takes, and banter. I really enjoyed the first quarter of the book. Learning about the characters, appreciating the friendship between Jules & Lavina, and finding the banter between the two main characters.
I really thought I would find myself with a five-star read until we got to the halfway point.
At the halfway mark, I was itching for the pace to pick up. While this book holds a lot of pivots and turned tables, it turned heavy. I became bored after the pieces came together, feeling like it was more focused on smut than the plot, which was such a big focus until it wasn't. We spent THIS long in the plot, and now it just feels lost in the sauce.
I'm slowly crawling to the end of this book, annoyed that it could have been 100 fewer pages with the same concepts/points hit. I also saw a spoiler in another review which made me RED knowing what the FMC did towards the end. LIKE GIRL YOU HAVE THE MOST RESPECTFUL MAN. RESPECT HIM IN RETURN PLZ.
Lastly, I feel like this book reminded me of elements of the super popular hockey romance, which you'd know if I said it. So much so, as I'm writing this review, there are actually quite a few parallels. So if you enjoyed that one, you'll enjoy this one too.
I also thought it was cool to see the reference to Delucia's. I'm all about the pizza.

I've been waiting for almost a year for Drew and Jules' book. Their chemistry in book one was absolutely amazing, and I couldn't wait for their story. And now, finally, they are here.
Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you

I am just in love with this woman. The way she carries herself even after facing so much, and the way she never lets hope die... I mean, I was amazed by her.
Then there comes Drew. The grouchy grump. The protective one. He and Jules don't see eye to eye, but he would absolutely throw himself into harm's way before letting anything happen to her. And you can see it in so many scenes.
Even when they were enemies. Even when they were bickering. Even when they couldn't stand each other. He still protects her, each and every time 🥹😭. And that was so heartwarming that it made me cry.
They say there's a fine line between hate and love. Well, these two crossed that line when they were teenagers. Something the older generation had already predicted. While these two were too busy squabbling, roasting each other alive, and mentally planning each other's demise 😂
Their banter. Their fights. Had everyone turning their heads like, "Okay... this is live entertainment." But also, "Could you two please stop trying to launch yourselves at each other?" That was exactly the vibe, and I was so amused.
The found family in this book completely melted my heart. I was crying, sniffling, and laughing right along with them because the vibe was just so good. The yearning. The slow burn. The way they craved each other... I was literally a puddle of swooning on the floor. They were just so amazing.
And Jules inner thoughts about fictional men, books and everything else... I was like, Yes, bestie, Clock IT 🤏🤌

Drew and Jules have semi-tolerated each other since they were kids. His twin sister is Jules' best friend and, as she says, her soulmate. They “try” to be amicable because of how much they love Vin, but get them in a room together and it always ends in a fight.
I feel for Jules; she has a lot of trauma she is working through and doesn't trust easily. She lives her life how she wants but hides her accomplishments from her parents. If they even think she is happy, they (mainly her mom) figure out a way to punish her. When a picture of her enjoying herself at her friend's wedding is posted on Instagram, they kick her out of her apartment, and Drew offers her a place to stay since all of their friends are out of town for the summer.
Drew is trying to finish renovating his house and relaxing during his summer when he unexpectedly offers to Jules a place to stay. What else is he going to do, leave her homeless and face the wrath of his twin?
I absolutely loved these two! I loved how Jules set her limits and boundaries and, for the most part, wasn't afraid to stand up for herself. I love love LOVED Drew! He is officially on my book boyfriend list! He is always proving to Jules that she can trust him and never wants to push her. He lets her set the pace for the most part. There may be a f*** it moment that makes you want to squeal!
I loved the world that Ava Hill has created in these books. Even though they were not in most of the story, the supporting characters make such a huge impact and add a layer of entertainment to the book. They only add to the story. Drew, Jules, and their friends make you not want to leave this world! I cannot wait for the next book!

Jules and Drew seem to get along as well as water and oil. However, for the sake of Drew's sister and Jules' best friend, they try every once in a while. Only, Drew's aunt insists he take her to a wedding she was planning on going to, and when they get back, they find she's being evicted by her parents from her apartment. So why not offer her a place at his house while she looks for somewhere else? Only, this gives each of them a chance to see the other in a new light, and there seem to be different feelings emerging. Drew is the king of consent and won't do anything without Jules' permission; however, she's got a past that makes her not want to be the first to make a move. When they get together, he's exactly what she needs. So what happens when past trauma comes back?
Drew and Jules get their happy ending in this standalone book in a series.

Ava has done it again. I love this story so much. This story is a frenemies to lovers, best friend's brother, only one bed, hockey romance. There are so many layers to both the FMC and the MMC and I am so glad Ava took the time to explain all of those layers slowly throughout the story.
Jules and Drew have hated each other their whole lives (you know the saying there's a fine line between love and hate, well this is them to a T) and are forced together by Aunt Constance but lets call her fate instead. 🫶 Drew is an MMC obsessed and we love a man who will worship his woman and stand up for her at all costs and he is that man. There were so many times while reading this story where I genuinely felt like Ava pulled thoughts directly from my head, particularly the scene where Jules is watching 10 Thing I Hate About You and talking about Heath Ledger, literal thoughts I have said out loud lol. Jules was just such a relatable character and I connected with her more than most other FMC presented in this style of story.
I also appreciated how much care and time Ava took in writing the more sensitive scenes, there are some heavy topics such as SA covered in this story (flashbacks, FMC explaining her trauma to MMC), so definitely check your triggers. Jules also has a complicated (this is putting it lightly) relationship with her parents and I connected with that so much and it was healing to read their interactions and feel validated in a way I didn't realize I needed. I can't wait to read the rest of this series and see what other coupes get their own stories.
