When love becomes the wound—and the cure—you have to decide which pain is worth surviving.
After a public and brutal fallout with Prophet, Aja is left forever changed. But walking away from the love of your life is never easy, especially when the spotlight never dims, and the past refuses to let go.
Prophet is a man at war. With the world, his demons and himself. Behind the cameras and platinum plaques is mind unraveling. He's chasing redemption, and he's willing to bare it all once and for his trauma, his truth, and his heart to get Aja back.
Fame, betrayal and passion collide in this raw, haunting story of heartbreak, mental health and survival.
This was the one!! I devoured this book! Unapologetically Poetic took me through every emotion possible! And I was still coming back for more. The push and pull of Prophet and Aja - the moth to her flame, lawd! Quite honestly, Prophet needed to experience life without Aja, because he was so dependent on her but I felt at times Aja could have placed more boundaries. But I would be lying if I didn’t say that I love Prophet! He’s broken, he’s grieving, he’s yearning for his mother’s love - this was a masterclass on character development!! Witnessing Prophet face his mental health issues and seek help was a great addition to the story. I wanted to give him the biggest hug! Ugh!! I can’t wait for the finale! 😭🥰
I didn’t mention it in the first review but I love the layout of these books. The visuals in the first book, the continuity of the articles, radio/blog transcripts and lyrics. The pace as well is phenomenal!
Now ..
Barz - you set yourself up for failure. You didn’t push and you were patient in the moment but two things weren’t in your favor. One - you pined for years and didn’t make a move when no one else was in the picture and Two - you knew she wasn’t ready and you moved too quickly to try and steal a relationship when she was still emotionally tied to another.
Aja - I’m happy and proud for you taking the time you need. It’s understandable for you to have fallen into comfort and stability after chaos. The heart wants what it wants ain’t no one else living your life.
Prophet - the growth. The way you love. The battles endured. You had tears falling from my eyes.
Ms. Black whew .. you a real one. Thank you for this; I love this story and the emotion it invokes. My only critique is there should be dates or something, I feel like all they do is physical (fck or fight) when together or attend an event of sorts.
Honestly I couldn’t stand Barz. I liked him as a friend, but anything more than that was an L for me—and I’m actually mad at Aja for even crossing that line. He keeps saying he’s nothing like Prophet, but he’s really not that different. He didn’t give her any time to heal from that breakup, and for him to say he wasn’t gonna push her… that’s literally all he did. It was annoying tf out of me 😑
My man Prophet was really broken, and I’m glad he finally decided to get the help he needs. I’m glad he didn’t blame his diagnosis on everything he put Aja through. My heart really broke for him at the end, not gonna lie—he was really changing for his self and Aja and then boom… that happens😭 best character development
And Aja needs therapy bad. Like real bad. That trauma bond between them is no joke… but I really do think they love each other, and I want them to work it out.
I need book 3 to hurry up and drop. Dominique, if you see this, go ahead and release it early—I’m ready ate the first two up 😊
The passion these two have can be felt through each page. As always, no spoilers! Prophet and Aja’s love for one another is what would for sure be considered toxic and at times messy. The tug-of-war between career, personal relationships and mental health only adds to the couple’s obstacles. Poetic is beautifully written and will keep you wanting more as the couple navigates to learn what they mean to each other as well as others. Buckle up, for the ride, in book 2 of this series.
The emotions were high, the character development was EVERYTHING, and Prophet had me going through ALL the feelings. I loved seeing the focus on trauma, mental health, healing, and the messy reality of loving someone while they’re battling their own demons. This book gave me heartbreak, frustration, passion, and hope all in one sitting.
