With Syl's checklist completed and Gold rank achieved in the Adventurer's Guild, the next thrilling adventure awaits in the Dwarven Empire!
Syl's quest to trade for a silver slime core for the [Metal Slime] trait and expand the power repertoire is not without its challenges. Can they successfully navigate the intricate web of dwarven politics and greed?
Syl also has plenty of new toys to try out, both slimy and magical, like the recently acquired [Nitro Slime] ability, which has some explodingly fun potential.
But in the deep, dark depths, who knows what lurks, waiting to challenge Syl?
DNF'd 60 chapters into this book, according to Royal Road. It sort of fizzled out for me and lost interest. My gripes:
1. Everyone has the same voice. The immortal pixie, the gods, the protagonist, they all feel like its the same person speaking.
2. It seems like the author breaks out the thesaurus for 'said' every time a character speaks. They might have a perfectly normal conversation, but on each line they 'deflect', 'murmur', 'tease', 'brush off', etc. It feels like I was dropped into some stage play despite not much happening.
3. Inconsistent etymology/linguistics. Might seem like I'm being a pedant, but if you're going to make references to language, at least make an effort to keep it consistent. The book is written in first person in presumably some fantasy language, yet we the reader can understand when a character says foreign (presumably English) words that the protagonist can't understand; it looks weird, and it happens often enough that you have to keep trying to guess if the word that's just been said is in English or in Fantasy. And in some instances, the opposite is true: the character frequently references 'lasers' as if it were a normal thing in a fantasy world; in a world where light bulbs don't exist, objects that have Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation surely aren't common? Off the top of my head, some other examples are 'rocking out' (does rock music exist?) or 'giggling like a schoolgirl' (do schools for children even exist in this world?).
In a similar yet different way, a (presumably English-speaking) character says 'watermancer' and the Fantasy character corrects her smugly, "no, hydromancer". Does the fantasy language have Greek roots as well?
4. The characters make awful puns constantly now, both in the narration and conversation. Takes you out of the story in a bad way.
5. The banter between the protagonist and her friends is just as bad. I can only tell it's meant to be funny because the narration tells me they are joking or laughing or teasing. Looks like the spider and maybe the pixie are going to be permanent fixtures, and I cannot look forward to it.
6. Syl constantly refers back to being 'harvested' or 'boiling alive' to awe her listeners and/or to explain how hard she had it, although those two instances are the biggest two nothingburgers to have ever happened. Literally nothing happened to her and she was nowhere close to being in danger in either occasion.
The cliffhanger genuinely ruined my enjoyment of the book. Cliffhangers feel like a cheap and slimy tactic. I absolutely hate it since it robs me of the satisfaction of finishing a book and gaining closure. I’m dropping the series.
This book was slightly better than the previous two. MC’s friendships are enjoyable and the new character introduced is good. It’s a decent book to turn off your brain to.
This was a great book. Almost all of it was engrossing and a delight to read.
However the ending felt like the author dumped the MC from one plot line onto another without a lot of agency. While I look forward to the next book I hope that they don’t use such a heavy handed approach in the future.
This was almost a DNF for me. The lack of any real plot beyond 'I want to adventure', and the endless dialogue / monologues made me very close to putting this down several times. I struggled through to the end and did not feel it was worth it.
Dialogue was a big sticking point for me, which is a shame as about 90% of the book is either dialogue or Syl's internal monologue.
Firstly, every character has the same voice. Bar the odd side character dwarf with 3 lines of dialogue, everyone sounds the same in this one, used the similar words and had the same positive, generally jovial perspectives, it made the world feel flat and that interactions were with 'npc's to get a thing, not other real people.
The characters tease and joke around a lot with each other; I know this because it is always stated immediately after the dialogue. Which once I noticed, quickly became grating.
The addition of the new sidekick 'Vee' also highlighted another strange issue with the dialogue. The characters all speak English, but the book is in theory translated from another language, as several things Vee says aren't understood by the other characters; it always felt odd and never landed as funny or interesting.
Love Diffusion. Syl, Vee and Trixie make quite a team!
I love, Love, LOVE Syl, the Slime. She a great friend to have and she'll protect you to keep you safe. Syl makes a Dwarf friend and since achieving a gold rank from the Adventurers Guild, she's now able to go off with him to the dwarven realm with the promise of a silver slime, as her Core gains traits/benefits by absorbing different types/colors of Slime! And of course she's determined to absorb all the Slime types to make a complete set! Her leveling speed was in deficit (which she had to pay off) with her unexpected and premature class upgrade, and to top everything off she acquired a companion beast, Vee a rank five spider! Vee is another experiment, like Syl, but unlike Syl her soul is from earth!!! So yeah expect a lotta pop-cultural references to come a flying. Syl starts teaching Vee magic! And wow Trixie, the Pixie shows up making the team complete! But, Ohhhh myyy, Lunadea did you hafta end the book there??? Talk about a cliffhanger. Wow! Waiting is soooooooo painful. Lunadea write faster!!! Go grab the book and enjoy!
Back from the dungeon test it's time to visit the Dwarven Empire. After the usual monster battles Syl finds another Experiment.
While I enjoy how Syl is slowly gathering trusted friends, there are some inconsistencies. Vee isn't just a reincarnation, she comes from a regular modern world, so her way of speaking includes a lot of references to things and concepts that don't exist in their current world. Despite that the number of things the locals don't understand seem quite random, because they already speak in a modern way most of the time. Also her dialogues are odd and I always think she's screaming.
It ended on a cliffhanger, I honestly didn't expect it to go that bad. Might have just been a setup for the April Fools chapter.
Love this series, slow moving adventure! It was funny to see Vee trying to use "Earth" lingo with Syl and Trixie who are not from this planet. The only negative was the dungeon, I did no enjoyed this one as much as I did others, probably because it was sanctioned?!?! I also do not get the point of Trixie, she is useless, just the same reason I did not enjoy book 2 as much as book 1. Still, it is a fun story, and entertaining. I already pre-ordered in Amazon! I'm wondering how are they going to use the "April's Fool" episode on the actual book. Can't wait! I do hope it doesn't continue on the "political" path it is heading since I'm here for adventure and fun and not politics or power struggles. Onto my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!
This was another fun and interesting adventure for Syl. It's hard to say too much without giving away some of the story, but I'll say she seemed to fit in well with the dwarves. 😊
I also like that each area she goes to feels pretty much complete before she moves on. Though, let's just say the move at the end of this book will be very challenging.
There were several grammatical errors in this book, which will hopefully be corrected soon; I reported all of the issues I recognized. 🤓
Oh my goodness, I LOVE this series!! But OF COURSE the last book currently published ends on a semi-cliffhanger! Arghhh!! I need book 4 now! If you are looking for a series that is just plain fun and entertaining while also low stakes then please pick up book 1 now and get ready for a new addiction!! 5/5 from me, well done Lunadea! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful world with us all!
Again the MC does irrational/thoughtless/odd things at the start of the book.
This happens again now and then and the discordance is infuriating harming the story flow.
Then there is the contrived ineptitude of the mc resulting in drawn our poorly conceived of action scenes. Add unbelievable and lacking dimensionality of the MC's personality being the crutch/deus ex machina aspect of the story.. and to my mind the story just collapses inward.
I loved this book, and as soon as I saw it released, I had to read it. I read all of it in one day. Truly it is one of a kind and I will never forget it. Loved the references to other books. Terry the dimensional bird you are a great friend. Keep up the amazing work I will be following.
Syl travels to the Dwarven nation and makes a new Experiment friend. They become the target of assassins and grow in power. Trixie finds them and the three have fun. Ultimately, the Elves force Sly to come to their nation. Book ends.
I still love Syl. The story has a fast steady pace. The narrator is great. I look forward to the next book.
Evolution LitRPG series adventure, hopefully this isn't the last book in this series. Great main character, she seems to be really enveloped in getting stronger with some fierce determination. Good character interactions with no romance, obviously slimes with different traits was different for sure. That was cute. Please make a book four.
Love this series does all the good markers for writing a strong character without washing it out. Appsoluty can't wait for the next one to come out even joined the discord channel.
Book three is done and Syl remains extremely fun. LitRPG and monster evolution stories require a good character and an amusing system. Syl continues to have both. We'll worth reading.
I like the addition of the characters. Adventure in the dwarf City was a great addition. There are scenes of both the main character being overpowered and facing dire straits.
Another great entry into this series, can't wait to see where this goes next. If you haven't read these books, I highly recommend them and anything else from this author.
first real setback for the protagonist, but it need more challenge, everything end too well, I love the interaction between characters, a co-worker is a good adition, it could get better
