It was much better than the previous book in the series I think that it was mostly because there was a lot of time between the 3rd and 4 th books. . In this one, there was a lot of action from the start. I liked the complexity of 4 different types of aliens having to work together and yet some not trusting the humans who had recently arrived even after humans helped them. The issues of trust were an important theme in the novel. Also, survival against a common enemy.
After reading the other books, it appears that even way into the future, there will always be politics!
I look forward to the next one in the series. 4.5 stars

Star’s Edge is the fifth installment of the popular Starship of the Ancients series by award winning and bestselling author A.K. DuBoff. Switching gears a bit, Evan Taylor and Anya Rojas on the Asamar run by the alien AI Sam, along with two other ships, leave the Commonwealth behind in search of the Korani’s (which produced the Asamar and Sam) fate. But this is no sightseeing joy ride to the other side of the galaxy. The human emissaries soon find out that political intrigue and the dangers of alien technology aren’t limited to the Commonwealth, and that their continued survival may well depend on forging an alliance despite suspicion and hostility from those they came to meet, but also an unknown outside force which threatens to destroy everyone.
Exciting reading here as the saga shifts from being centered on the machinations of the Commonwealth to the fight for survival of the Korani and their own uneasy alliances with their neighboring races. Deft plot twists and seemingly insurmountable conundrums infuse the story with a “what will they do now?” theme that frequently lurks around the corner.
Needless to say, highly recommended!

Star's Edge by author AK DuBoff brings forth a new world building effort that had me speechless in admiration.
The Reach is an unknown enclosed star system almost impossible to enter and equally a huge surprise for Evan and Anja aboard the Koranic space vessel, Asamar.
More so as four alien species, including a Korani settlement, are all living here under alien threat by something called simply the scourge.
Equally surprising is the fact that the Koranic insisting on the deletion of the Asamar AI, Sam.
And then there are the Leiadis....!
Star's Edge may be the fifth book in the series but is a major surprise for readers all the way through to the very last page.

Superb Space Opera
Reading all of the recent books 1-5 Kept me on the seat of my pants. It is truly a story of Grit and stamina against overwhelming odds. The Characters are real heroes. Reminds of the Late Andre Norton’s tales of Humans meeting Alien civilations and realizing common fears and goals. Strongly recommend this series!

This is a great series. I do believe this book was a little slow in the beginning. It was easily 3/4 in when it finally got exciting. Once it gets going it’s extremely good but I really hope the next book is not quite as slow.
BTW: why does Goodreads only have this book in the German edition? This is not the first time this has happened.

Outstanding!
Had trouble putting this book down. This new story in the series takes everything to a whole new level. I thought the author created an amazing scenario for our existing heroes, along with creating a fascinating new universe with incredible new characters. Now comes the frustrating part: waiting for the next book in the series!

good story
Intrigue and politics and a few battles against a mysterious foe. There is likely a lot more to this story. It was entertaining and enjoyable for anyone who likes space operas.

Strangely enough, while I enjoyed all the politicking in the previous books, this time I found the Reach politics a bit tiring. The final battle felt a bit repetitive, too, but I did enjoy seeing Sam's development.
