Down-and-out after retiring from cycling to 'get a real job', Leesa Kubicka just wants to forget about her years on the elite team, the races she mostly lost. Just her luck, her first real assignment at the sports marketing agency where she's building a career takes her right back to everything she wanted to leave cycling, the Tour de France and Colin Gallagher, the immature joker who'd enjoyed riling her up with stupid pranks – the guy she'd nearly kissed back in September.
Much to her mortification, her job is now to make content with him before and during the Tour de France. His pranks and flirting – and distractingly deep voice – don't make her job any easier, but she's determined to impress her boss and earn the contract extension her bank account desperately needs.
Leesa has always been Colin's Achilles beautiful, funny and completely immune to his rough charm. But now she's here to witness the moment that will make or break his young career and all he wants to do is act out with her.
It's his last chance to prove he's not just the idiot she thinks he is before she's gone from his life forever. It's time for Colin Gallagher to finally grow up and prove he's worth the support of his team and sponsors – and maybe even Leesa's heart.
After leaving Australia ‘for a year’, Leonie never went home and now travels across Europe jotting down love stories wherever she goes. She has a degree in languages and is an expert at taking public transport and travelling under her own steam on foot or by bike. ‘Home’ is now in central Germany, in the vineyards along the Main river, where she spends her time writing happy endings in English and speaking German with bad grammar.
This was a wonderfully sweet and somewhat fast-paced enemies-to-lovers story. He definitely fell first. I loved the characters and their inability to lie to themselves about being attracted to the other. They definitely had chemistry from the start.
It was exciting to read a story centred on the sport of cycling (I haven't read the first book in the series). I feel like I learned a lot about how dangerous the sport really is and how physically taxing. The comparison between the two main characters' careers in the sport was also rather interesting, observing how gender and expectations impacted their experiences so differently.
I loved how they chose to incorporate 'pranks' into their relationship in sweet and silly ways towards the end, in contrast to the chaos of their past. Their growth as a couple and ability to find a middle ground were reassuring (the MMC was very immature at times).
Overall, a fun, sweet story that teaches the lesson that winning shouldn't always be the goal. Sometimes 'winning' can look different to how we expect.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC. Unfortunately, I didn't quite get the chance to finish this story before the release date.
Apart from that boob comment I quite liked the book. True that there were quite a few terms that are cycling specific, so if you're not into cycling it might be confusing about what they are talking, but I thought the author was quite good at explaining the important stuff
First, I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book!
The main reason I requested this book is that I’m from the Netherlands, and it’s centered around cycling. If there’s one thing you should know about the Dutch, it’s that we love our bikes. We use them for transportation every day. I cycle to work daily, so a sports romance about cycling immediately caught my attention.
I ended up giving this book 3 out of 5 stars for several reasons, but I’d like to start with the positives.
I really enjoyed the cycling theme. There are so many sports romances these days, but most of them focus on hockey, baseball, football, or Formula 1. I don’t think I’ve ever read, or even seen, a sports romance centered around professional cycling. This book revolves around the Tour de France, one of the biggest sporting events in the world. It’s hard to avoid during the summer, and I’ve watched it several times myself whenever I had the chance.
That said, I don’t think this was ultimately the right book for me. The biggest issue was that I never felt fully invested in the story. In fact, it felt like the most interesting part didn’t begin until around the 70% mark, when the Tour de France actually started. Until then, I found myself struggling to stay engaged.
The second reason was Colin. Unfortunately, I really didn’t like him as a character. Although he’s 25 years old, he often behaved like a 13-year-old boy. His constant pranks on Leesa felt incredibly childish and immature. I understand that his actions were supposed to show that he had a crush on her, but he was an adult during most of these interactions. There are far more mature ways to get someone’s attention, and instead of finding his behavior charming, I found it frustrating.
Overall, this book wasn’t for me, and I’m unfortunately not its biggest fan. However, if you’re a fan of sports romances and are looking for something different from the usual hockey or Formula 1 romances, this book definitely stands out. But the fact this book is about cycling/ Tour de France makes it stand out.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read the ARC!
I must admit, I struggled a little with this one. Not because of the cycling theme or anything like that, I don’t think you necessarily need to know or understand everything about road cycling to read this as most unfamiliar terms are explained. It was mainly the characters I struggled to find interest with in the beginning.
In the beginning I wasn’t entirely sure of the dynamic between Leesa and Colin. I mistakenly assumed that they were enemies, however that wasn’t actually the case. I don’t really know how I’d describe it as they weren’t exactly rivals either.
Throughout the book we do get flashbacks to various years but if I’m honest those didn’t really make the prank thing all that clearer. I still don’t know why Colin played pranks on her, I would assume it’s because he had a crush on Leesa, but isn’t he a little old to be doing that? I mean, putting glue in her hair, or putting fake bugs in her clothes reads very juvenile, like primary school behaviour, and he would’ve been 19-24 years old during the time they’ve known each other. It just seemed very childish to me but then again, Colin does come across as a very childish man sometimes.
Overall, this isn’t a bad book. I enjoyed the actual romance between the characters, there is some conflict between them at some points, however I think it makes sense in regard to everything that was going on with Leesa not wanting to distract Colin from the competition. The cycling theme was super fun and completely new to me as I’d never read any cycling romances prior to this one!
I love Leonie Mack’s books. It is such a relief when the release date of a new one is near. I felt a little trepidation for this one though. The tour - I am aware but I don’t really care. What are the participants ruining their bodies for? Not aesthetics that’s for sure. I accept that Leesa finds Colin attractive but it’s a hard and uncomfortable stretch of my imagination. My inner eye is blinded by the Lycra. So what could make me interested in a romance between two sticklike cykling people? And feel soft about their immature feelings? And really feel anxious about the ride up a mountain and down to the finish line? With accelerated heartbeat and all. A master storyteller, that’s who. And that’s what Leonie Mack is. I love how the pacing and themes of the story reflects the pacing and thoughts of a day in the tour. I love how the physical love is integrated into the story and reflects the characters and their relationship evolving. I love the setting in the mountains. I LOVE the setting. I love what the characters are for each other. I love the heart theme. It’s so much more than a pun. I liked the shaving of the moustache. (Sorry for the spoiler for new readers who would otherwise be kept at the edge of their seat - will he keep it or will he shave? He shaves. And I feel like a hypocrite, because I like a beard, but I was greatly relieved that the moustache was going.)
So. I am desperately looking forward to the next book.
Read this if you like: professional cycling, a playful MMC, sports romances
My rating: 4,25
Don’t brake my heart by Leonie Mack is the sequel to Head over wheels, one of my favorite sports romances of 2025. This story follows Lori’s younger brother Colin and professional cyclist-turned-social media marketeer Leesa. Her first assignment is no easy task: she has to generate marketing content with Colin, the man that has been pulling silly pranks on her for years. Working closely together is also tough on Colin, who has been hiding his true feelings for Leesa all these years..
I really liked this story, but it took me a while to get into it. In the beginning I didn’t really like Colin, since he seemed quite emotionally immature. It also annoyed me a bit that they kept arguing instead of just having a normal conversation. However, after a while it became clear what both Colin and Leesa were struggling with and the characters started to grow on me. The story made me feel happy and when I finished it, I felt that I wanted to know more about .
If you’re into sports romances and want to try something new, I suggest you read this pro-cycling novel by Leonie Mack (and don’t forget to check out Head over Wheels too)!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions regarding this book are my own.
It took me a little while to get into this one. I think it was mostly because our hero, Colin, was quite immature and a bit of an idiot at times. Meanwhile, our heroine, Leesa doesn't seem to even like him much to begin with. The chemistry between the two was quite a slow burn. Leesa could certainly seem to admire him physically, but on a deeper level, there didn't seem to be anything there, at least to begin with, although that improved as the story developed. I don't really know a great deal about road cycling or the Tour de France, but this book covers the topic quite well, at least for someone like me who doesn't know much. Leesa has given up racing herself after injury and the need to pursue a 'real' career, while Colin has the weight of his father's expectations pushing him on. Once we get past those early chapters, the romance develops, and it becomes easier to see beyond Colin's childish pranks and what he really feels for Leesa and also the way her feelings are developing. This was an enjoyable romance and worth reading, although as I say it did take a little time to get into. I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.

My thoughts of the book 💭
Thank you to Leonie mack, Bedford Square publishers and netgalley for this copy of Don't brake my heart.
This is my first book from this author, I really enjoyed it. I haven't read the previous book head over wheels, but I don't think that affected my enjoyment of this story
I loved the playful Ness of mmc Colin, and I felt his redemption and growth was great throughout the book.
Leesa is trying to find her way after her accident and starting again.
I loved the relationship between the two main characters, full of banter, sweet moments.
I enjoyed the cycling aspect of the story. This is a great sports romance, different from the typical sports romance books out there.
My favourite moments 🗨️
" You", he answered immediately, a catch in his voice. "Just you, Leesa Kubicka."
"I don't believe in coincidences. Leesa must be back where she belongs."
"But I wanted to see her in the stuff I'd picked out, feeling like fucking prince charming sending a ball gown to Cinderella."
I love Leonie's books, and I was so grateful to get a chance to read this one as an Arc too. I think Colin definitely has a redemption arc from the first one for me. And Leesa has such a lovely storyline, bringing herself back into the world of cycling from her crash. It is written with Leonie's normal and brilliant humour and storytelling and it is really nice to be in a new sport, which makes such a change from the trends. I don't think you need to know much about cycling before reading this, its perfectly balanced for those who know more and those who know nothing. I think I will always recommend this book, and all the others by Leonie. Her writing is just perfect, not too drama filled but enough to keep you going.
Many thanks to both Netgalley and also Bedford Square Publishers for providing this ARC!
Gotta admit, I have picked the book mainly because of the cover and title and after reading, I am not entirely sure what to think about it. First off, it is a cute story idea. But I simply could not get a warm and fuzzy feeling for any of the main characters. And those pranks - I have no idea how they can be considered funny. Colin was totally inmature and a prick. And none of those flirty jokes? Were flirty in my book - it's more sexual harassment. If I would be Leesa - who was okay enough as a FMC - I would have kicked him instead of falling for him.
Overall, I sadly can't give this one more than 3 stars because I was frustrated a lot while reading, and it just was not as much fun as expected.
Started this on the same day as Le Tour de France did, and what can I say, a book that combines romance and a sport I have dedicated SO many hours of my life, it was an obvious read for me. I loved the portray of the Cycling feels, although sometimes it felt more Sunday-morning ride than an actual competition. Nonetheless, i liked the exploration of this sport as a romance-foguees material, and even more the fact that the FMC is/was also a cyclist and involved in the world professionally. The end felt a but rushed and I would have liked to see more of the after-Tour life, but still quite an enjoyable read and a pleasant discovery. So, either if you enjoy sports romance in general and biking in particular, this is such a perfect summer read😎
It was okay, I did like it more than I thought I would when I first started it. I wasn’t really that fond of either main characters. Colin came across as juvenile at times, he was supposed to be 25-26 and he was still acting like he was at 19. I’ve also never seen an mmc stick their foot in their mouth as much as he did. I wanted to like Leesa but I felt like so was so hot and cold the whole time. I liked the cycling, I didn’t really understand a lot about the sport but it was really fun to read about.
Thank you Bedford Square Publishers and NetGalley for letting me read a free copy of this book in exchange for a review
Thank you, Leonie Mack and Bedford Square Publishers, for this opportunity to read this ARC!
I could not put down this book from the moment I started it! For some reason, I was so drawn to Leesa and Colin—from their personalities, to their passion for cycling, their honesty about their own struggles, and their passion for each other. The tension between Leesa and Colin had me giggling way too loudly to myself, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading about their relationship blossom amidst the Tour de France, work, and trying to resist a romance that shouldn’t be happening.
This is a book that had me missing it the second I put it down. Amazing read, and I can’t wait to reread it!

As someone who spends way too much time on a road bike, and religiously watches the Tour De France every year, this was the sports romance book that I needed. Set about a year after Leesa has a career ending cycling injury, and has since tried to make her way in the "real" job world, she is assigned to the men's side of her old team. Better yet, she specifically has to work with on-the-rise Colin who she has quite a bit of history with. She is then sent to film content with Colin during their training camp before the Tour.
Although initially I was expecting this book to mainly focus on the time during the Tour, I was pleasantly surprised by the story and how it played out during the training camp. I loved how from the beginning, Colin is straight up pining for Leesa and is trying to win her over, while also helping her get over her leftover trauma from her crash. I really loved their dynamic on the whole--especially once Leesa got over her supposed dislike of Colin.
This book was such a nice refresh from the line of sports romances in just a few popular sports, and I especially love that it is set with a sport that I love. I cannot wait to read another cycling romance, especially one by this author.
Thank you to Bedford Square Publishers and NetGalley for an early copy in exchange for an honest review.
Having thoroughly enjoyed Head Over Wheels last year, I was thrilled that the follow on book would be about Leesa and Colin. This was such a sweet, funny story with two leads with chemistry to really root for. I loved how their relationship grew and the ending hit all the right notes.
Thank you so much, Bedford Square Publishers, for an ARC copy of this book!
As a girl who grew up with a dad who spent every summer watching the Tour De France, I really enjoyed this book!
The romance was so cute and such a giggle. The banter between the characters was impeccable.
For me, the most memorable part of this book was when the characters struggled with their romance. It is a bumpy path for them, but it felt so real. So often, romance books paint love to be something simple, and that made this book so refreshing.
If you want real romance with a healthy dose of road racing, this is the book for you!
I love the world Leonie Mack has created for the Head Over Wheels series. The characters and their stories are so realistic that, if I didn't know better, I would think they were happening right now, as the cycling road season is in full force.
There aren't that many cycling romances, but this series is gold. The level of research and detail into the cycling world is incredibly accurate. Yet, it doesn't feel overwhelming or too much.
Don't Brake My Heart focuses on Colin Gallagher, who could be Australia's golden cyclist. But his childish pranks and immature ways make everyone think he is another spoiled nepo-rider. With the Tour de France looming, can he be serious, and does he really have what it takes to lead a team?
And then there is Leesa Kubicka, a former pro rider who swore to leave the cycling world behind after she retired. Now focused on her underpaid sports marketing job, she wants to prove to everyone that she can make something of herself. The last thing Leesa expects is to be thrown back into the cycling world to create social media content for a client who wants to focus on the one rider who always pranked her.
Collin and Leesa have chemistry in spades. And it doesn't matter that she is older. In fact, this is another detail that adds a realistic touch to the book since it's quite common among professional cyclists. Leesa sees Collin's complex layers, which reveal depth beneath the prankster facade he has hidden behind. Unbeknownst to almost everyone in the team, they have a history. And what a beautiful ride their story is!
