Moon

I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.

Oh Moon. You were worth the wait.
“I’ve had four serious boyfriends in my life.”
He growled.
“What is wrong?”
“Love is forever.” He gave her a disgusted look. “You have no idea what real love is, Joy.”
I don't even know how to write this review, the book was just amazing. Moon and Joy meet when he has just been released and they are at Site Four (One of the places NS were sent when they were released). It starts off with one of their sessions. Moon is nothing like how we know him. He doesn't like sports, is very antisocial and refuses to talk to her until she tells the guard to leave the room. He talks then, just not so much about himself. More about how much she'd enjoy it if she slept with him. But it is nice to see how the New Species were when they were first released. It makes me love Moon more.
"Is that why you’ve refused to choose a new name and kept your number instead?”
“Do I look like a Doug, Thomas, or Carl to you?” An eyebrow lifted. “Do I appear normal?”
But Joy soon becomes too attracted to him and leaves before anything can happen. There was no way she could sleep with her client and not be discovered. At Site Two they kept one of the therapists locked inside her room for six days as punishment just for holding the hand of one of the NS females. And so she leaves, making both her and Moon miserable.
Fast forward a few years when all the NS live at Homeland and all that, and they both still miss one another. As you know in Obsidian, Moon was shot with a dart containing a drug that turned him feral. As the one that knew him best, Joy is asked to come see him to see if she can help. Around her, he is calming and he listens... And now that he isn't her client, and she isn't getting paid there is nothing she won't do to help him get better.
It was a bit of a bumpy road for them, but I really liked both Joy and Moon and how much they love each other.
“I’m feeling really good.” She looked at his mouth. “I bet I could think of something to do that would cheer you up.” She used the hand resting on the curve of his shoulder to knead the muscles there. “Mr. Grumpy needs to relax and find his sense of humor.”
Trey laughed. “Morphine?”
“I don’t know what they gave her. She’s very happy.”
I also liked how much we learnt about Harley in this story. He is such an amazing friend to Moon. I also love how he loves to ride motorcycles. If I wasn't devoted to Leo, I would claim Harley as mine. Isn't it a shame New Species don't share? It's amusing watching him tease Moon.
It was tough to hold his friend’s gaze. “I need your respect. It’s important to me that I always keep it.”
Harley suddenly yanked him into a hug. “You always have that.” He stepped back. “You could cry like a human little girl and I’d still have your back, man.” He grinned. “It might disturb the hell out of me but we’re bros. I’d hand you tissues and buy you a teddy bear.”
I liked seeing Flame too. I think his story might be next or soon. I know some people didn't like Amanda, but I thought she was pretty cool so I can't wait for their story.
“I’m Joy, by the way.”
“Flame.” He shoved the key into the ignition and started the engine. “Moon is a friend of mine and he spoke of you sometimes.”
Curiosity gripped her. “What did he say?”
“We were talking about regrets one night. He shared his story of losing you. I shared my story of how I met a human I really liked but I let her go. Sometimes I think about Amanda and wish I had invited her to visit me.”
“Why didn’t you?”
Flame drove, watching the road instead of glancing her way. “She’d have to leave her life to be with me. I did a background check on her and she had a rough life. A male once tried to kill her. They were engaged. She deserved better than I could offer her.”
Joy couldn’t resist probing. “I take it she was interested in you?”
“She seemed to be. She even called me a few times but I didn’t respond.”
“Why would she have to leave her life?”
“We can’t live outside NSO lands. It’s too dangerous with the hate groups and our enemies. She’d be trapped here with me and it would make her a target if she were my mate. She actually would be considered New Species. Mates are considered to be a part of us.”
The one thing I didn't like was that there was no mention of Obsidian. I would have thought he would be mentioned after what good friends he and Moon became in Obsidian's book. I was kind of hoping to see how he was going.
Anyway, so I'm thinking Flame might be coming out next. I hoping then to get books for LEO (I <3 YOU), Jericho, Ven (He wasn't in this one either )': ), and Breeze and Trey together (I love them as a couple). Pretty please, Laurann Dohner? Write those ones next?
I still want to know what 927's name is. I thought it might have been 'True' for a few seconds, but then I realized the story didn't quite match up.
True was a male who’d been stolen by some of Mercile’s employees before the facility had been breached to free Species. He’d been located later and recovered with a few dozen others.
And the last thing have to comment on was that I was disappointed about the fact there was no Leo. Come on, you can't mention the most amazing NS male in one book four times, and then not write anything about him in the next book. It's not fair. He's still mine by the way. And when he has his book, and you all realize how amazing he is you'll never have a chance with him because I've already claimed him.
Fingers crossed the next book is out soon.

December 18, 2012Am I the only one who wants to read about a primate new species? I mean, I love all the books. I would just have liked to hear about Jericho, or Smiley or even Destiny. Is that really so wrong? Not to say I'm not totally gushing about this instalment in the series. I absolutely look forward to reading Moon's story, and will squeal like the fangirl I am the moment I get my hands on this book. :) I was just wondering, why always canine and feline?

5 Over The Moon Stars

YAY this book has me all kinds of giddy!!!! So Moon is the 10th book in the New Species Series. This book picks up a few days after Shadow. Moon has been shot with a dart that has a unknown drug on it and has turned him completely feral. Dr. Joyce Yards gets called in to help a New Species that she use to treat , when she gets there what she finds breaks her heart. The NS that needs her help is none other than the one she fell in love with and quit her job to get away from before she got them both in trouble by acting on her feelings, 466 now known as Moon, and he is flipping out feral. She walked away once before thinking it was for the best, but never got over him. Now she will do whatever it takes to save Moon even if it cost her everything she has even her life!
“Your ass is mine now, sweetness. Anyone who knows me would know how much I want you.”
“Do you want me to fuck you like an animal?”
Moon was great for me. I loved him in the other books and I loved him in this book too. Moon is so sweet, laid back, and funny that seeing Moon so lost and broken was so sad. He had fallen in love with Dr. Joy when she was treating him 2 years ago right after he was freed, he never got over her or that she left him. It was super sweet that she was the only one that could reach him. The moments of lucidity that he had he was fighting so hard to overcome that drug and keep everyone safe from him showed the true him and how brave he was. Fighting to be him again and remember his life.
“I want to lay you out on this desk, bare, and lick between your spread thighs, which will be hugging my face, until you beg me to take you. I’d flip you on your stomach and bend you over in front of me right here.” His finger tapped the wooden surface of her desk. “I’d fuck you until we both couldn’t walk, think, or talk.”
“Damn you. You have no right to act injured. You left me! You’re the one who walked away.” His voice rose into a snarl. “Don’t expect to return to my life as if all that time hasn’t passed. I’m not the same male.”
“I missed you. Open those pretty thighs for me. It’s my turn to put my tongue on you. Let’s see how long you last, sweetness.”
I loved Joy as well. I could understand why she left the first time. I loved the way she stood by him and put everything on the line to save him. I thought she was so damn brave, sweet, and loving. She was whatever he needed, even if he hurt her she wasn't giving up on him and fought with everything she had to get him to remember.
“Hi, Moon. I’ve dreamed about seeing you again but I didn’t want it to be this way or for this reason. I’m going to do everything in my power to help you. I won’t abandon you this time. I’ve regretted taking off on you more than you’ll ever know.” She brushed back an errant lock of his silky hair. “Please forgive me but I would have lost everything and I couldn’t risk it because you were vulnerable. They wouldn’t have allowed it anyway.”
“I’m not leaving,” she whispered and hated the tears that once again filled her eyes. “Please don’t ask them to keep me away from you.”
“You know you’re the only male I want. I understand what a mate is and the level of commitment that goes with it. You are it for me. No one is sexier than you. He totally doesn’t appeal to me in that way, okay? Everyone pales in comparison to you.”
Second chance love at it's best. My God their relationship was super emotional. Their chemistry was off the charts. I loved them as a couple they melted my heart, made me swoon, and set me on fire!!!!! I was so invested in them. I loved Harley and Moon's friendship. Harley had me crackin up and I hope we get to see more of him.

It’s important to me that I always keep it.” Harley suddenly yanked him into a hug. “You always have that.” He stepped back. “You could cry like a human little girl and I’d still have your back, man.” He grinned. “It might disturb the hell out of me but we’re bros. Loved everything about this book, it just worked for me. 5 out of 5 loved the hell out of it stars. So damn romantic and sweet. I would totally recommend it . I am on to the next book. Below I leave my favorite moment for the book and it was very hard to pick just one:
“Moon is a New Species,” Joy explained. “He’s super sweet and not scary at all.” She tried to imagine what concerns they’d have to address before they spoke again. “We’ve been seeing each other and I’m hoping you’ll be okay with that because I’m serious about him. I know you don’t know much about them but I do. They are really good people. I love him.” She waited to see how they’d take the news. Her mother surprised her. “I like them. Is he handsome?”“Very. I think so anyway.” “What kind is he?” Her father didn’t sound upset. “Does he have those cat eyes?” Her mother sounded excited. “Those are so pretty.” “Canine,” Joy offered. “So no, he doesn’t.” They were taking it way better than she expected and she was grateful for that. “Dogs are very loyal. That’s really good.” “Dad!” She was aghast that he’d said that. “I didn’t mean anything by it, honey. It’s a compliment.” “I know. Please don’t ever say that if you meet him,” she pleaded. “We want to meet him. Isn’t this wonderful?” Her mom laughed. “Our baby is dating a New Species.” “I can’t wait to tell the guys on my bowling team. I’m so sick of hearing about Bob’s son dating some author. This is way better.” Joy did groan then. “Come on, Dad. Really? You’re going to use Moon to impress your bowling buddies?”

This is a story of the world's worst psychologist - Joy. She gets a job counseling the New Species when they are first freed to help them adapt to life outside of captivity. But, the New Species are not fans of humans, you know - after being sadistically used as guinea pigs and punching bags their entire lives, so some of them are slightly resistant to another "doctor" coming in to force them to talk about their feelings.
So, Dr. NotsoBright gets a patient who starts saying inappropriate things to her to get a rise out of her. He tells her sexually explicit things he would like to do to her. Hmmm, how should a brilliant psychologist deal with this situation? I'm sure there were never any classes in setting boundaries with patients during her schooling. Oh, wait, there were plenty of lessons on that. But, Dr. Doormat doesn't do the right thing at all - like not allowing this behavior, or just reassigning him to a different doctor. No, she puts up with it because he is hot! Yes, she's liking what he's selling, so she allows him to go a little further each session until he is about to have sex with her at her desk. THEN, she decides enough is enough and quits her job without telling him - never to be seen again.
Well, done, Dr. Dimwit!! Make sure you tell him how attracted you are to him and then take off. Emotionally vulnerable patients who develop inappropriate feelings and bonding toward their doctors are perfectly fine when they are abandoned.
Fast forward two years and Dr. Delusional gets a call that her old patient needs her because he was given an unknown drug and made feral. Maybe she could help him!? Well, of course she can because she has an amazing therapy plan - the magic vagina. That's right, she's going to hump him back into sanity. It's a well-known fact that all men can be cured from any ills through feral hot monkey-sex.
And, surprise! The magic hoo-ha does its job and Moon is brought back to sanity.
The moral of the story is that instead of psychologists, counselors, and psychiatrists, all we really need to cure mental illness and insanity is a bunch of hookers and a case of lube. Problem solved!

Hmmm, how should a brilliant psychologist deal with this situation? I'm sure there were never any classes in setting boundaries with patients during her schooling. Oh, wait, there were plenty of lessons on that. But, Dr. Doormat doesn't do the right thing at all - like not allowing this behavior, or just reassigning him to a different doctor. No, she puts up with it because he is hot! Yes, she's liking what he's selling, so she allows him to go a little further each session until he is about to have sex with her at her desk. THEN, she decides enough is enough and quits her job without telling him - never to be seen again.
Well, done, Dr. Dimwit!! Make sure you tell him how attracted you are to him and then take off. Emotionally vulnerable patients who develop inappropriate feelings and bonding toward their doctors are perfectly fine when they are abandoned.
Fast forward two years and Dr. Delusional gets a call that her old patient needs her because he was given an unknown drug and made feral. Maybe she could help him!? Well, of course she can because she has an amazing therapy plan - the magic vagina. That's right, she's going to hump him back into sanity. It's a well-known fact that all men can be cured from any ills through feral hot monkey-sex.
And, surprise! The magic hoo-ha does its job and Moon is brought back to sanity.
The moral of the story is that instead of psychologists, counselors, and psychiatrists, all we really need to cure mental illness and insanity is a bunch of hookers and a case of lube. Problem solved!

This being the 10th book in the New Species Series, it was rather good to have a totally different storyline with Moon’s book. And though some of the storylines have been for me somewhat very similar, it has not stopped me from loving this series. The reason, well the main reason for that is the characters in the series. I have come to love them and am totally engaged in their world. The New Species world that the author has created is both compelling and addictive.
Moon, one of the Canine Species has always been the caring, playful and loyal male that everyone loves and after being shot with an unknown drug at the end of the previous book, Shadow, has turned feral, vicious and no longer recognizing his friends or anything about himself.
Dr Joy Yards, a psychiatrist that had worked with Moon when he was released and before Homeland had been created, is asked by Justice to try in getting him back from the hell he’s now living.
This is another favorite of mine in this series. It’s emotional, dark but also filled with hope and humor.
Enjoyed the backstory of Moon & Joy and we learn more about the New Species lives before Homeland was created and how they struggled to fit into society.
I would have liked a bit more about Moon & Joy together – there was so much going on they there were very few times that the two were alone.
Another difference in this story is there are only, I think, 2 sex scenes………..yes, I kid you not!!!! Not that I missed more…….the last few books, I skimmed a lot of the sex scenes….they were a bit …like the same old, same old….
Characters…I am totally captivated…..Smiley, the new babies – I love their names…Salvation & Forest! Midnight, Kit, and what about Breeze & Trey………I missed her in this book!!!!!!!!
Oh gosh, I nearly forgot…………Moon’s best friend, Harley……how cool is this dude??? A New Species riding a Harley……swoon!!!

COVERGASM!!!
You know, it's a good thing the cover of this book is wonderful, because I found the contents to be quite Boring!! What a let down. There was so much repetition, explaining the same thing to four different people, and making me read the explanations four different times. That annoys me to no end when authors do that. As if they are trying to eat up pages.
The book picked up by the 60% point and became interesting. But by then the damage had been done. I enjoyed the bit of action at the end, but otherwise, this was a slow boring read!! You could actually skip this book and not miss a thing!!

She found that she was attracted to him and couldn’t handle him, so she quit.
The Hero: Moon (a.k.a. 466) - He is New Species and is one of the most easy-going males that anyone has ever met. He is good friends with many of the other New Species and some of the human workers as well. However, in the attack on Reservation, he was shot with a tranquilizer dart which contained some kind of experimental drug from Mercile which completely changed him and made him feral. He tried to kill other New Species and it took four of them to subdue him.
The Story: it has been more than two years since Joy quit and she is asked to go to Homeland, where the New Species were headquartered, because of an issue with a former client. She finds #466 who has gone completely feral. He is out of control, doesn’t recognize anyone and has to be tranquillized much of the time.
I liked this one because Joy tried to be professional, but she fell for Moon two years back and when she was called back, she just wants to help him out. I liked Moon quite a bit in Obsidian’s book, he was funny and flirty and a good friend to Obsidian. He gave him all kinds of good advice as well. This book also furthers the plot about the former Mercile employees still being up to no good, by creating this new drug.
This book is told in dual points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Vanessa Chambers. Vanessa’s voice is pleasant, and I like her quite a bit. She is terrific at doing different voices for different characters and there are a lot of characters in each of these books, so that can’t be an easy job, but she does it so well.

I'm seriously in love with the whole series, but Moon is my favorite by far. This is the best book in the series so far and you know... Moon is soooooooo hot!
After finishing Slade i wasn't in the mood for Valiant or anyone else for that matter, but Moon sounded promising! And it was.. Joy and 466 share an amazing kind of chemistry, too much sexual tension and an incredible backstory. This book was darker and the plotline less adventurous and still, i couldn't stop reading.
This installment starts after one of the protesters shots Moon with a dart and he becomes feral, Joy his psychologist is coming back to help him after two years of absence and she is the only one he can relate to or remember. She actually puts herself into great danger in order to save him.. Even though things between them were left on bad terms.
Their story is so unique and beautiful, i have no words, only a spot on my most favorite books!!
THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK
- Harley was incredible friend and so damn funny.
- The characters from the other books are mentioned..

First of all, I will say that I did enjoy this book; however I was somewhat disappointed in it. One of the biggest reasons for my disappointment was that I found Moon and Joy's time together was quite limited in the story. So much time went into explanations of their feelings when they were talking to other people, I even found myself skimming some of the pages. This is a total first for me when it comes to the New Species series. Don't get me wrong, I still found it sexy and at times down right humorous; but I would have liked to have the couple together a lot more.
The prologue sucked me in immediately, and I highlighted so much of the conversation between Joy and Moon. ( 466 was what he was called in the beginning)It begins with Joy being 466's therapist in the desert, after the New Species had been saved from captivity. Of course 466, had a huge chip on his shoulder, and Joy was determined to break through his walls. The interaction between the two was out right hilarious at times. 466 (Moon) decided he was attracted to Joy, and also that if he talked about sex to her she would become uncofortable. My favorite quote was when he said to Joy:
"A fishing reference I learned on last month's mandatory trip comes to mind- I'd toss you back for being too small. It wouldn't be any fun for me. You'd break if I fucked something so fragile."
And so goes his teasing to Joy; but she eventually does toughen up and becomes very attracted to him. Unfortunately, with her being his therapist it is inappropriate so Joy leaves and this devastates 466 as he grew just as attracted to her.
This brings us to the present day, where Joy is called to help Moon as he has been shot with some kind of drug that is making him feral and not knowing anyone or his surroundings. It ends up that Joy is the only one that seems to be able to bring him back to lucidity; but only for short periods of time. He also thinks he is back with her in the desert from years ago. There is also another road block and that is Moon's friend Harley. He doesn't like Joy because he feels she hurt his friend by her abandonment, so he becomes quite volatile with her at first until he figures out that she really does love Moon and wants the best for him. This is the story in a nutshell, and it consists of Moon's journey back to knowing who he is and what happened to him. Of course he still harbors resentment from Joy leaving him and they also need to work through that and his trust issues with her.
I have to say that the friendship between Harley and Moon was so heart warming. I loved seeing these two interact with each other, although at times I felt Moon gave his friend way more affection than Joy. I have fallen in love with Harley too, and I do hope he gets a HEA sometime down the road. He is such a sweetheart and I think he would make a great mate.
Another scene that had me laughing out loud was with Joy's parents! She was telling them that she was in love with a New Species male and she worried how they would react..This is some of that conversation:
"Moon? What kind of name is that? Are his parents hippies?" (this is from Joy's dad!)
Then Joy tells her parents that he is New Species, and of course her mother starts asking if he is good looking, and if he has those cat's eyes. Joy says "No, he is canine," and her father answers with this:
"Dogs are very loyal. That's really good."
"I can't wait to tell the guys on my bowling team. I'm so sick of hearing about Bob's son dating some author. This is way better."
LMAO!! I just thought her parents were hilarious, and this was one of the highlights of the book for me!
On the whole, I was once again very entertained by Laurann Dohner's story. I sure love how the shifters have such an innocence about them, even though they are alpha to their core. Their innocence comes from how they perceive things in a simple way, almost like a child. It just melts me, and makes me adore them even more. I will still continue with the series, I just hope that next time we will have way more couple time, and sex time..after all, that is what made the books such a huge success for me to read and love them!

In the tenth book of the New Species series, Dohner presents readers with psychiatrist Dr. Joyce Yards, who goes by the name of Joy. Joy was 466’s shrink before but two years have passed and now 466 goes by the name of Moon. He was shot by something that has made him crazed and his is now murderously dangerous to all those trying to help him. Potent in feral sexuality, Moon is a New Species turned ten times more dangerous because he doesn’t recognize those around him. However, he does recognize Joy. As she tries to coax him back, true love becomes Moon’s remedy.
While I enjoyed this latest installment to the series, I did feel as if it was almost too clinical. The heroine being a psychiatrist and trying to ease Moon out of his feral state seemed less about the romance and more about recovery. In someways, I liked it, but I also thought that due to the clinical nature of the story, some of the passion was taken out with it.
Another thing that I felt was too much in this book was Moon. He is so feral and animalistic that he didn’t feel like a hero to me. He was just someone to save and though I had an emotional connection with him, I still didn’t see him as a hero. Yes, he was desirable and yes, he showed some growth but he didn’t fully win me over.
For fans who follow the series, you get to see familiar names. This is one of my favorite things about this series. However, I will say that if you’re thinking about starting this series, this book could work alone as a standalone too.
All in all, an enjoyable read but not the most passionate of the series.

This book?
So, I admit, I wanted to skip this book in the series. So many people hated it, I really didn't want to be one of them. Thank God I wasn't!
Typically, it would have been a 3 star for me. But I've had bad luck with books, so I needed something relaxing, and this was it. Even more, it managed to surprise me a bit. There wasn't as much drama as I expected, , I got used to that happening in all the previous books, so this was a really pleasant surprise.
And the alpha male?
I missed this!

AHH I love me some Species males. Laurann Dohner did it again I love this series I love how it has progressed and I love getting to know the males and getting more of this world. Laurann Dohner is an author I know I can read and love her book. She makes me wish I could re-read this series again for the first time and she also makes me a little sad because I know so many authors can't compare to her.
Joy and Moon met at the camps that held the newly released species when they were first found, she was his psychologist but as their feelings began to grow Joy left to protect him. Two years later Joy is called to help Moon. After the attempted kidnapping of Beauty(in Shadows book) Moon is feral and nothing seems to help. Joy drops everything to help, happy to see Moon again. But Moon isn't the same and she wonders how she can help. As she spends more time with him glimpses of Moon seem to break through, but he also is confused and at times thinking he is back with Joy in the dessert.
When Moon finally starts to recover Joy has to answer some questions from an upset Moon on why she left him, but everyone soon finds out that something else is going on with Moon and he may have bigger problems. And Joy soon finds out that someone has been watching her and they will do what they have to to get her home.
So Yes I loved this book, I always liked Moon in the other books but I love him now after reading his book, this story has a different story line than most and I really liked that as well. I loved when Moon was feral, because he was even more crazy about Joy then, at his most basic when his core urges and need were controlling him all he wanted was Joy(sigh). Joy was a great heroine she was strong and she was willing to do anything to make Moon better.
This book sucked me in from the first sentenced and it was so well written I found myself surprised that I was reading it so fast but at the same time sad that I finished it so quickly. So the biggest question now is who will book 11 be about, my guess is either Harley, Flame or Smiley (though I think more than likely Harley or Flame) . And the toughest question is how long will we have to wait, gah I hope not long. This book made me want to re-read the entire series again because I am now in Species withdraw. This is hands down in my top 3 favorite paranormal romance series if not my favorite. Laurann Dohner knows how to write a hero like most authors wish and she is a genius at what she does.

Great addition to the New Species series. Moon was intense & yummy and Joy was perfect for him. My favorite part of the book though was when she told her parents that she was in love with a New Species Male....they're reaction was priceless & LOL funny!! I only wish we could have seen the actual meeting between Moon and Joy's parents.

This has edged past Obsidian and is officially my favourite of the series so far!
Premise: Moon is the New Species male who, during a routine patrol, was drugged and has turned feral. Joy is the woman who used to be his psychologist, but walked away when they got too close, and has been called by the NSO to try to bring Moon back.
Omg the low key angst that simmered throughout this book, the putting their own lives on the line for the other person, the drama. I’m a sucker for the “MMC will recognise the FMC even when he’s down to animal instincts” microtrope. So good.
There was a decent sprinkling of external plot that built on the overarching storyline about Mercile (the EvilCorp that has created the New Species), and that was the perfect amount to keep Moon and Joy’s story moving.
I loved it. Zero notes.

Okay. Deep Breaths.
Now on to my review:
Moon is the 10th installment of the New Species series by Laurann Dohner. You might have remembered Moon from other previous books, such as Obsidian, when he was doing that whole process of cheering him up and all (and was caught reading a book which I really hoped that he would do often. Sadly, that wasn't the case, and I read too much into it lol).
ANYWAYS
(Review may contain spoilers. Read with caution)
In this book, we are first brought back to the past (159 days after the New Species were freed) when Moon was this anti-social, isolated, and mean guy. He didn't like going to his Therapy sessions, which were held by Dr. Joyce Yards, the heroine. After further encouragement, he decides to trust Dr. Joyce,or Joy, with making him feel better. However, when he's sent to Homeland, she leaves her job, without contacting Moon.
Two years have passed to our present day, and Joy gets called on by Homeland to help them with Moon, who had gone absolutely insane after consuming some sort of drug that someone shot on him. This drug erased so much of his memories, that he forgot who his friends were. He'd become more animal than man. And it is up to Joy to help him get through the drug and make him feel better, and Moon comes to trust her, even after she had left him long ago. His deep love for her helps him make it through.
NOW MY OPINION:
I'll have to say that I started loving Moon in previous books. He was this kind, loving,caring guy whom everyone loved and I assume my assumptions were correct when I read this book. But I felt that he wasn't technically a hero in this book. I felt that Joy was more of a strong character in this book than Moon. The roles just kind of changed where the heroine saves the Hero's life, and Joy was definitely a strong heroine.
And am I the only one who had not noticed a lot of sex in this one? It was so..un-Lauran Dohner-ish.(Or maybe because its been a while since I read a Lauran Dohner book)
But overall, this book was great and enjoyable! I loved Moon so much!
Now, we need a story for either Harley or Flame. :)

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK! Although I had one major problem with it, the whole pacing. Not much happened story wise but I really loved Moon and Joy's time together.

More of the same. I feel like the first couple of books were the strongest. Stuff happens. Miscommunication, again....gasp. Lost of crazy cage sex. Seriously, more cage sex. I know they joked about naming a kid Cage but...well, it might happen. It wouldn't be any stranger than Moon. Joy and Moon were good together, I guess. More stuff seemed to just happen. Honestly, I was just here for the crazy cage sex. Bleh.
By the way, I've been dying to use this meme in a review. Any review. Any time. I found it on Pinterest and I had to start a board titled "Funny." It's that funny. When ever I need a pick me up I go to this board and just laugh.

First, I haven’t ever mentioned it, but DAMN this series has to have some of the sexiest covers…YUM.
“You’re the only one who can reach me when I’m lost.”
Moon (466/canine-mix) was first introduced in Slade (he was one of Dr. Trisha’s body guards.) He's always been laid back/funny, but was shot with a dart that made him go feral at the end of Shadow.
Dr. Joyce Yards was Moon’s therapist after he was freed from Mercile. She left him without notice when she couldn’t deny her feelings for him anymore. She’s called to Homeland to see if she can reach a feral Moon.
This series is very formulaic, and the storylines can be similar, but some are so alike that they are almost reboots… this one falls under that category and reads like Obsidian 2.0 with another medical professional trying to save her beloved male with whacky treatments. In Moon we basically swap Dr. Alli’s method of rubbing allover Obsidian for Dr. Joy treating Moon by showing him her boobs.
This one wasn’t bad; it was less boring than Shadow, but it wasn’t awesome either. The entire first ½ Moon is feral, and Joy’s trying to do “anything” to save him which basically consist of getting in his pants in the name of medicine. I didn’t love Joy, she just seemed so desperate and needy. I also couldn’t reconcile her being so in LOVE with Moon but never trying to reach out to him over the years. She couldn’t send an email?
She tilted her chin slightly and licked her lips. “Kiss me.”
“I’m not leaving,” she whispered and hated the tears that once again filled her eyes. “Please don’t ask them to keep me away from you.”
“You know you’re the only male I want. I understand what a mate is and the level of commitment that goes with it. You are it for me. No one is sexier than you.
IMO the couple with the best chemistry in the book was between Harley and Moon. Their Bromance was seriously #relationshipgoals…. The cell phone video… adorable.
“What are you doing?” His voice was husky, the one she remembered. “Making a memory,” Harley chuckled. “Videos are popular.” Moon laughed….
“We are friends because we have so much in common.” …. After a few seconds he zoomed back to Moon. “I wanted to video you. You’re leaving for Reservation soon and I’m going to miss you. I’ll watch this when I do.” Moon smiled. “It’s only for a month. You won’t even know I’m gone.”
The expression of elation on Moon’s face hurt Joy’s feelings. He hadn’t ever reacted to her that strongly or positively in all the time she’d known him. The big Species nearly shoved Justice out of the way to reach his friend. He grabbed the other man in a bear hug. “It’s so good to see you.
“I need your respect. It’s important to me that I always keep it.” Harley suddenly yanked him into a hug. “You always have that.” He stepped back. “You could cry like a human little girl and I’d still have your back, man.” He grinned. “It might disturb the hell out of me but we’re bros. I’d hand you tissues and buy you a teddy bear.”
Bottom Line- I was disappointed that Obsidian wasn’t around since Moon had been such a good friend to him when he was struggling. Breeze is also MIA. I was glad that bastard Kregkor got the boot. Total sidenote-but if Slade and Tiger are both at Homeland then who’s running Reservation?? Also, broken record here, but I do wish we could either ignore the fact that these dudes sleep around, or have a conversation because it makes ZERO sense that the H can say… “I won’t lie to you. I’ve been with females but they never touched me the way you do, Joy— inside or out. None ever wanted to love me…. and the h just drops it. This happens almost every book and NO FEMALE would ever just shrug and move on… she’d latch on to that tidbit like a dog with a bone, and complete a thorough inquisition.
**Flame still talking about Amanda (Lauren’s BFF from Wrath) so maybe they’ll get a book

Bringing Joy back
I couldn’t help but find myself completely submersed in this book while I was reading it. The author did such a fantastic job that I found myself pulling an all-nighter before I knew it. I love the thought and detail that was put into the creation of this story and each character within the pages. With every book in the series, my love for the New Species grows. I can’t wait to read the next book by this author.

I really enjoyed Moon. He was a great character and, as with all NS characters, I loved his sincerity and alpha authenticity. I was not a huge fan of Joy though for some inexpiable reason. I "liked" her but she annoyed me. I think it might just have been me so take that with a grain of salt.
Also, the subject of Joy leaving Moon at Site Four (pretty much the main and sole conflict of the book) really got old and after a while I felt like we were just beating a dead horse.
I felt like the climax of the story was kind of weak too and I felt myself becoming a little bored by the end; however, I really loved the premise of the story and the way that Joy became Moon's lifeline to sanity.
Overall, I really enjoyed the story, but I always compare Dohner's new NS books to my favorite of her NS books (Fury, Slade, and Brawn). In short, I like this story better that Wrath and Shadow, but not as much as Fury, Slade, or Brawn (if that helps anyone based on their own favorites). I'm looking forward to the next one in the series. Hoping it's Darkness or Jaded!

Moon era un amor en los libros anteriores y entiendo que la droga le cambiara la personalidad y eso pero se me hizo muy cutre el drama
Lo mío con Joy es personal, me cayó muy mal desde el inició y parece que la autora se la sacó de la manga solo para darle contexto a la historia
Quería una historia de Moon pero no esta

Laurann Dohner does it again! She delivers an Ice Cream Sunday with everything on it in the tasty treat world.
What stood out? The uncertainty between these two...attracted but never sure of the return of feelings. The medical condition that Moon had...Scarey and frustrating to deal with. The likability of these too...They were both hero/heroine(s) that did not irritate you and characters you actually rooted for! Joy, the heroine-spunky and independant! I loved when Joy told off Dr. Kreiger. She is such an awesome heroine! And we got to see more of Harley, who in the past was just briefly mentioned.
Heard a rumor that Flame's book is next? Hope so. This novel was situated at Homeland so we did not get to see any of our Reservation characters like Valiant, Tiger or my favorite: Vengeance! But Smiley, put in an appearance and we did meet a new NS - True and Book? Hmmmmm....Don't recall ever coming across them.
Again, I loved the heroine! (psychologist-Dr. Joyce Yard or Joy) was instantly attracted to Moon when she treated him at Site 4 right after he was released and he did his best to initiate sex with her. She struggled with the ethical issues of getting involved with a patient and decided to leave abruptly after she felt her resolve slipping and thought it inevitable that they would cross the line and get involved. She thought she was doing the right thing for Moon. It is important to keep in mind that this attraction began prior to any New Species getting involved with a human. She did not want to ruin her career or Moon's life.
A year and a half goes by and she can't stop thinking about him...She misses him and wonders what became of him. He, believing Joy left without saying goodbye or ever contacting him after intensifies his obsession for her and he has a hard time moving on with his life. In his mind she was already his and she rejected him. Harley and he become good friends, he confides in him; With his help, Moon starts to get on with his life. But he never truly forgets her.
At the end of the previous book in this series, Shadow....Moon is shot and a dangerous drug in the tip of the dart infects him. He looses all hold on reality and goes completely feral. He is unreachable and out of control. New Species medical desperately try to find a cure for him and while grasping at straws....Harley suggests that they bring back Joy.....he knows that this woman meant something to Moon and she may be able to reach him. They are getting desperate as Moon is slowly slipping away.
Joy is called and comes running. She decides to try the lure of sex, knowing how Moon had always been attracted to her in a sexual way....in her presence, he utters his first words to her....and they continue working, spending time together. New Species is more than willing to allow this as they see the only progress Moon as made up to this point. You'll have to read the book to see how this works out. But let's just say it get's "Steamy." and that is a clue and a bad joke if you have read the book!
This book portrayed a very calm and thinking New Species in Moon (except when in his stupor) I can recall many New Species who deny their feelings at first and then go head on grabbing up their women while dealing with overwhelming jealousy and anger issues.(Fury, Slade or Valiant) But nor did it resemble the "I don't need or want a mate" books. (Justice, Tiger) And this had a very unique storyline...in a way. They built trust in the cell little by little and when he is finally out of his drug crazed stupor he awakes a new species male leery of Joy, uncertain of their relationship and angry she had decided to now come to him after ignoring him for a year and a half. He was rejected by her and now she is committed to helping him?
There is so much more that happens in this book....but what I liked was Joy's way of thinking....how she always sought to protect and care for Moon and the other New Species. In one scene she reveals to Moon (as she is closing the door in his face), "I love you." and later Moon reveals to Joy in a crowded hallway, "She is my mate." Surprising both Joy and himself...that slipped out without him thinking about it....but it was true. You could feel the butterfly's in their stomachs as they work to figure out where this is going.
As always the author loves to mix her serious subjects with a little humor. I love the part where Joy tells her parents that she is "dating" a New Species and her father says he can't wait to tell his bowling team. Her mom asks if Moon is feline because they have such cute cat eyes...and when Joy tells them 'canine' her dad says, "Well, everyone knows dogs are loyal" Then you hear the "ughhhhh ohh Dad!"
All-in-all a top notch read by Lauranne Dohner. It was a sweet and a wonderfully romantic read and it made me smile! I read these like candy....I don't just take a small bite to savor and come back to finish it...I devour it as fast as I can...and like candy, I can't wait to enjoy the next piece.
Laurann Dohner does it again! She delivers an Ice Cream Sunday with everything on it in the tasty treat world.
What stood out? The uncertainty between these two...attracted but never sure of the return of feelings. The medical condition that Moon had...Scarey and frustrating to deal with. The likability of these too...They were both hero/heroine(s) that did not irritate you and characters you actually rooted for! Joy, the heroine-spunky and independant! I loved when Joy told off Dr. Kreiger. She is such an awesome heroine! And we got to see more of Harley, who in the past was just briefly mentioned.
Heard a rumor that Flame's book is next? Hope so. This novel was situated at Homeland so we did not get to see any of our Reservation characters like Valiant, Tiger or my favorite: Vengeance! But Smiley, put in an appearance and we did meet a new NS - True and Book? Hmmmmm....Don't recall ever coming across them.
Again, I loved the heroine! (psychologist-Dr. Joyce Yard or Joy) was instantly attracted to Moon when she treated him at Site 4 right after he was released and he did his best to initiate sex with her. She struggled with the ethical issues of getting involved with a patient and decided to leave abruptly after she felt her resolve slipping and thought it inevitable that they would cross the line and get involved. She thought she was doing the right thing for Moon. It is important to keep in mind that this attraction began prior to any New Species getting involved with a human. She did not want to ruin her career or Moon's life.
A year and a half goes by and she can't stop thinking about him...She misses him and wonders what became of him. He, believing Joy left without saying goodbye or ever contacting him after intensifies his obsession for her and he has a hard time moving on with his life. In his mind she was already his and she rejected him. Harley and he become good friends, he confides in him; With his help, Moon starts to get on with his life. But he never truly forgets her.
At the end of the previous book in this series, Shadow....Moon is shot and a dangerous drug in the tip of the dart infects him. He looses all hold on reality and goes completely feral. He is unreachable and out of control. New Species medical desperately try to find a cure for him and while grasping at straws....Harley suggests that they bring back Joy.....he knows that this woman meant something to Moon and she may be able to reach him. They are getting desperate as Moon is slowly slipping away.

*Sighs* Oh Moon...
If you have been following this series then you will understand what I mean when I say, that I LOVE how each book continues to evolve with each character. How deep not only the plots continue to get, but the chemistry between the main characters and the circumstances surrounding their union. The dialogue as well. With every book you read in this series the stories, plots, interactions etc.. begin to feel more organic. Natural.
This one was intense. Not because of the physical intensity between the H/h (although this is true, it was there. In spades ;D) But this was intense to me cos of the emotional intensity I felt between the two. My heart physically ached with certain scenes concerning Moon. And at times he and Joy together. Wow.
There was some suspense in a few situations surrounding them, but there was one that was just totally contrived to me that had me rolling my eyes. Actually there were two incidents that had me doing this. So I couldn't give it 5 stars. That being said it didn't undermine or under cut what I had read thus far in the book. So that was a happy plus.
The blurb for this book sets you up nicely for why you are reading about Joy and Moon. So I won't repeat or elaborate on that further. But the execution of the story, their journey, I felt was done superbly. I would definitely recommend this read. Please read this series in order.
I wonder who will be next?

Moon es el decimo libro de la saga New Species escrita por la autora Laurann Dohner y narra la historia de Joy y Moon.
Antes que nada tengo que decir que el personaje de Moon siempre me ha encantado, desde la primera vez que aparecio yo senti muchisimas ganas de conocerlo y leer sobre como se enamoraba y de quien, por eso admito que quizas esta reseña no vaya a ser la mas imparcial # SorryNotSorry #.
Esta lectura no fue como esperaba, al leer la sinopsis pense que la trama se desarrollaria de otra forma y aunque no tiene demasiado accion, a mi me dejo muy satisfecha.
Agil, entretenida y con una de las mejores parejas de esta serie, Joy estuvo a la altura de un personaje tan adorable como Moon.
En fin, esta novela es una de mis favoritas, la siguiente es sobre True, no se muy bien que esperar de el pero espero que no me desilucione.

Luv, luv, luv Moon. He wanted Joy but she had to leave for his own good. This really shook his self confidence and he felt abandoned. It took a dire situation to bring them back together, and oooh boy what chemistry.
