The woods aren’t safe after dark. Not for a girl like me. Not when he’s watching.
Every year, Briar Hollow’s Festival of Masks ends with laughter, cider, and smoke. This year, it ends with him.
The Wolf. A man wrapped in mystery and menace — the one who’s been haunting the edges of my life and my dreams. When he calls me Little Doe, my body forgets what fear feels like.
He’s not supposed to want me. I’m not supposed to crave him.
But when the mask slips and the chase begins, running stops being an option. And surrender becomes inevitable.
In the dark, he hunts. In the dark, I bloom.
Run, Little Doe is a dark, obsessive romance filled with stalking, psychological tension, and primal desire. Expect a possessive hero, an untamable heroine, and a love story born of fear, fire, and sin.
J. J. Wilde writes love stories that live in the shadows—emotional, intense, and unapologetically human. Her romances explore the space between desire and redemption, where pleasure tangles with pain and every heartbeat has consequences.
She believes in the beauty of imperfection, the pull of surrender, and the kind of love that leaves a mark. Her stories are for the Sinners—readers who crave connection, chaos, and the truth that sometimes, love saves us by breaking us first.
A proud neurodivergent author, J. J. lives in Canada with her husband and family, writing her own imperfect but beautiful love story one page at a time.
Thank you to the author J.J. Wilde for sending me a digital ARC copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.
Run, Little Doe is the debut dark romance novella by indie author J.J. Wilde.
This was cat and mouse game between two masked people running through a forest! The tropes alone were one of the reasons to read this book! I love the slow build of the story.
Synopsis:
Every autumn, the town of Briar Hollow hosts the Festival of Masks, a tradition where everyone wears a mask for a night of secrets. Sirena Fawn finds comfort in the festival as a way to remember her parents, until this particular year. In the crowd, she encounters "the Wolf," a masked man who has been watching and waiting for her for years. Driven by a feral desire, he steps from the shadows to initiate a chase. Sirena runs because she should, while he follows, unable to help himself. The story explores the blurring lines between fear and want, leading to an "inevitable" and dark love story.
Run Little Doe is available on KU and paperback version available now.
I’m still pretty new to dark romance but I enjoyed this book. The hunter and prey dynamic was something I hadn’t tried before yet it never felt too much or uncomfortable. The FMC always feels in control of herself and her choices while also letting the MMC take the lead when she wants him to. That balance made everything feel safe, respectful and easy to enjoy.
The atmosphere is dark and tense in a way that keeps you hooked and The Wolf has that perfect mix of obsessive and mysterious without crossing any lines. For someone easing into darker romance this felt like a great pick as it’s intense and addictive but still grounded by clear consent and trust.
This is the debut novel by @jjwildeauthor and let me tell you, it was the perfect amount of smut and thrill, all wrapped in a pretty red bow 😏
but seriously I freaking loved this novella. the vibes, the masks, and a stalker who chases you through the dark woods ... yes please! Sirena was very intriguing and an absolute goner for the man in the wolf mask at first glance through the crowds. Their game of cat and mouse was sexy and captivating, and I love that she wore a doe mask and kept it on during the chase.
The mystery of the MMC had me hanging on the entire story, just anticipating the reveal of the man behind the mask. And with enough breadcrumbs throughout the chase, I just loved the thrill of the hunt while he stalked his little doe. His thoughts and actions were so possessive and aggressive, yet he was almost gentle and desperate in the way he needed her. I am gone for this one, I swear.
biggest congratulations goes to J.J Wilde for her debjt release! YOU'RE A PUBLISHED AUTHOR! I'm so proud, you're so inspiring ♡
The author lives inside my heart and I’m so glad I don’t have to lie when I say this book is fucking great and I would like me a Wolf and the vibes are VIBING yup that’s a trope I loveeeeee

The vibes, the masks, and a stalker who chases you through the dark woods sounds like a dark romance reader's dream!
Sirena was intriguing to the man in the wolf mask at first glance through the crowds. Their game of cat and mouse was sexy and captivating. I love that she not only wore a doe mask but she actually kept it on during the chase.
The mystery of the MMC had me completely enthralled with the anticipation of the identity of the man behind the mask.
This is a quick fun read if you like the thrill of the chase!
Thanks to JJ Wilde for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my thoughts!
Sirena, a photographer is off to a party, taking photos of the festival she feels watched. The Wolf has had her in his sights for a long time and now it’s time to play out the role he wants her to…
I finished this in one sitting whilst waiting in the hospital, so a few hours and it was done. In all honesty, for me this wasn’t anything to write home about. It seemed very repetitive and fragmented, The Wolf was as predictable as was knowing who it was early on, this could also have been the reasoning of the author too. This one just didn’t gel with me, it was just an ok read to pass the time with spice and primal play.
Run little doe is a dark, addictive stalker romance that had me hooked from the very first mask encounter. The tension between the Wolf and his "Little Doe" crackles with danger and desire as fear slowly twists into irresistible attraction. I loved the primal play and the reckless chase that kept me glued to the pages. If you enjoy dark romance with serious heat, this one is absolutely worth the run.
