Infinite power at your fingertips, and danger to match.

After their excursion to so-called “civilized space” Anya, Samaira, and their friends have returned to Earth. Laden with goods from their journey, they’re in a better position than ever before to protect Earth from the various galactic powers around them.

Which is when a heavily-armed ship from the Luorian Galactic Union appears in the solar system. Again.

The Union isn’t here to threaten or quarantine this time, however. They want to use their absolute last diplomacy. A Union ambassador offers a truce with no more quarantine fields, no more sending the Cosmic Wardens after them. They might even share some advanced tech with Earth by way of an apology.

The catch is that the Union needs help with a nest of several hundred thousand bloodthirsty gnosiphages. If Anya and her friends can clear it out, they have a deal.

But even if The Union agrees to a truce, they aren’t the only ones with their eyes on humanity. Earth’s governments tasks Anya with contacting the other galactic powers, to insure that mankind is never alone again. It’s a mission that will take Anya and her friends to the heart of the Empire, the Citadel of the Cosmic Wardens, and one of the darkest corners of the Union.

At the end of it, Earth may not just be able to survive, but to thrive on the galactic stage, and finally turn the tide. Assuming Anya and the others can survive assassins, gladiatorial challenges, alien bureaucracy, and far worse.

The scale and scope of the series has certainly evolved since it started, to saving Earth from invading aliens, to saving Earth from, well, an alien empire that doesn't want them there. Mind you, this has been the scope of the last book as well, so nothing new there, and this book is basically a continuation of the groundwork that was laid out in the previous one.

It is, like the rest of the series, highly engaging and enjoyable. There is a lot of action in this one, character development, world building (as you get to see more of the Union, the Empire, the Wardens home planet), along with some heart wrenching scenes as well.

Given the developments in this volume, I am curious to see where the series will go from here, but am looking forward to it irrespective.

The Author Is A Talented Jerk

I knew it was coming and it was telegraphed in nearly all the classic tropes, but for the author to deliver the gut punch that he did was just plain MEAN.

I knew going into this book that the MC and her love interest had plot armor. I also knew that it had been a bit too long since a beloved character bit the dust, but geez did you have to kill him?! I figured the resident stoner would drop before everyone's favorite support, but nope. I was wrong.

Loved the story and glad it was one of my 200 books for the year, but I'm going to go have a little sniffle after the ending of this one.
