Court of Earth and Sky

Rate this book
The demonic darkness is growing. The clock is counting down.

My family reunion is cut short by the skáth, forcing our group to save my father before the demons get the chance to destroy the key to finding the unicorns – and finally finishing this prophecy before time runs out.

Neil and I are constantly looking over our shoulders for the fae now that we're together or he'll be arrested for treason. The penalty? Execution. But when we lose one of our own, how do we keep from falling apart?

Trapped between the destiny of the prophecy and an increasing number of enemies intending to stop can we combine the hidden magics before it's too late? Or will the distractions we face give our enemies the advantage they need to rip us apart?

With more of Aurellia falling under the skáth’s shadow, how long until the realms are destroyed?

✨ thank you to Heather Grace & her team for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I love how each book literally picks up exactly where the last finished, as if it were just a page turn and onto the rest of the story. It really helps keep the reader engaged and the story flowing!

WOW this was action packed. It had spice (3🌶️/5) it had heartbreak, it had reconciliation, it had purpose, it had determination. It had a little bit of everything!

Our sweet, determined Tessa. She is a total lover, and wants to see the good / be the good in all ways. However, that cliffhanger is leaving a bit more to be determined if her sweetness has a side of darkness too? 👀

Neil’s entire world shifted, between accepting Tessa as his, to Naomi, and the truth of the court’s brainwashing, our grumpy guardian has had a rough go. Now, with more betrayals surrounding him, I have no idea how he will get out of his current predicament.

The found family trope is so beautifully written in these books, and their family just continues to grow. I’m glad Tessa was able to keep her promise to her Mom, that she found Carson, and get again escaped the skath devilry multiple times, but again with that cliffhanger.. Will she do it all? Can she? Only time will tell! I can’t wait to see how Tessa’s and Neil’s stories continue in book 5!

Whoa! Straight in with no safety net! Right into a very potentially lethal situation, with a very apprehensive, uncertain Tessa, struggling with herself. I do love the realism of Tessa, she is powerful, beyond anything anyone has seen, but she, herself, is new to all this. She's new to magic, she's new to this world, and she's handling it all pretty well if you ask me! And when she suddenly finds herself face to face with her father, so many things fall into place and leave more questions.... and before she even has a chance to explore her "new" father reality, he's stolen away by the skath!

I really enjoyed how realistically dramatic the author spins the entire tale, the emotions coursing through Neil and Tessa are spot on. She's a human who's coming to terms that she might not be wholly human, he's a fae who's a guardian of the Court, tasked with Tessa's protection, a Court where emotions are seen as weakness, a Court which indoctrinated "against other species" as lesser. And heck do their emotions swirl! I love the softening of Neil, it's more and more apparent with each book, even though, as Tessa says, "He hides so much under that Guardian armor of his.” He has to! He's beholden to the Lady of his court, he believed in her, he believed in his duty, he's determined to fulfilling his sworn duty. But slowly, Tessa seeps in to his heart, his soul and he begins to question it all. His growth from dedicated, "shouldn't feel, shouldn't waver" from duty Guardian is superb, acknowledged by him, "even the strongest fae need to lean on others once in a while. I learned that from you.”

Ms Grace brings in cool characters in each book, not all likeable, but adding to the overall effect and tension. For example, Saraya might be beautiful but "green" is not a colour that suits anyone! I didn't like her one bit, something just felt off about her and it wasn't just her jealousy of Tessa. Oh, and the further I read, it just confirms my initial impression, she's VILE! The more we get to see of her, the more despicable she is, going as far as...nah, you'll have to read for yourself, but HECK!!! Soooo much drama! I love the supportive cast that surrounds Tessa, not only Neil, her gorgeous Pegasus Azriel, Neil's very sage phoenix, Ezra and the rest of her new found family. Who all think the same, "We are a team—heck, a full-on family at this point with everything we’ve been through together." Boy did they endure much, all of them! I love diminutive Kali, one of the small folk, with a heart of gold and a strength that belies her size. She's so fiercely protective of Tessa, her genuine affection for Tessa gleams through her like a lantern. Nerissa and Naomi who've got a thing for each other, Deidre a druid they saved from the Skath, Cara a hippogriff they saved from certain death, Azriel the horse who's actually a Pegasus and Tessa's Leath (familiar). Deidre endured so much at the hands of the skath, still traumatised, but, like, a bundle of joy! (You'll get the "like" part if you have, like, read the book...)

We get to go on a wonderful journey, once again back to the human realm for a while, except this time, I cried tears of joy! The magnificent reunions, the purpose for Tessa's initial acceptance of "the task", the prophecy, is realised. Well, one part is! And back we go to the fae realm to more suspense and tension. Ms Grace took me on a complete rollercoaster....Hell and brimstone rain down on Tessa at every turn, just as she, and I, allow ourselves to relax slightly, to feel safe for a while, bam! Avoiding the skath is bad enough, but when Carson is snatched, it ramps up even more. With the mistrust of a mixed pot of villagers, fires erupting, traversing deadly bridges, fighting the skath, who seem to be, well, everywhere, Tessa does the unthinkable. And good golly, I was SO with Neil with my reaction, yelling NOOOOOOO! And the author doesn't stop there, no siree... she takes it to a new level of suspenseful agony, I literally wanted to cry at some of the events!

Neil said this to Tessa, “You must get pure joy from giving me heart palpitations, considering how often you do it,” but.... I swear, it's the author doing precisely this to me! I go from holding my breath, to relaxing my body, only to be jolted upright again! Flipping heck! Ms Grace kept my adrenaline brewing, spiking it often, ebb and flow, ebb and flow, kicking it into tsunami proportions! And, once more, as a smooth complacency took me over, she did it, throwing me off course once again with that ending! Immaculate storytelling that doesn't let up for a second!

Court of Earth and Sky is the fourth book in Grace's Hidden Courts of the Fae series. This a slow burn, urban fantasy romance featuring Tessa and Neil. This book picks up where the third, Court of Water and Dust, left off. This series should be read in order as these book are not standalone stories.

The book throws readers right back into the story with a pixie attack and an injured hippogriff. After Tessa has a chance to explain, the pixies invite them to their village. Tessa is shocked to find that the leader of the village is none other than her long lost father, Carson Crane. She never thought she would meet the man and while she has some trust issues, she's excited to talk to him and hear stories from a time when he was with her mother, Meredith (Merry) Anderson.

When the skáth attack the village and kidnap Carson, the gang gears up for a rescue mission along with a several residents of the village. As expected, neither their journey nor the rescue are easy or straightforward. Tragically, lives are lost but they manage to escape. Some of the residents of the village decide to return home while the others head to Tessa's ranch to retrieve a required item. Before returning to Aurellia, Tessa has a chance to using her healing abilities on her mother and see her parents together for the first time.

They decide to return to the village before continuing on their journey to finish the prophecy. Unfortunately they are not well received and when they leave another member is lost.

This series is a perpetual roller coaster ride. There is never ending action and adventure which keeps readers completely captivated and eager to find out what comes next. I love that we get to learn more about the characters in each book, and how their connections continue to grow. It is always fun to have new folks join the cast and see how the dynamic evolves.

I should have expected another cliffhanger ending but this one took me by surprise. I'm now eager for Court of Wings and Spirit to be released so I can find out what magic Grace has in store for her readers.

I absolutely loved Court of Earth and Sky. This book completely pulled me in from the very first chapters and never let go. The pacing is intense, with so much action, high stakes, and shocking revelations that I felt like I couldn’t breathe at times. Every time I thought I understood what was happening, a new twist changed everything.

What I loved the most is how much Tessa evolves in this book. She’s not the same girl she was at the beginning of the series. The growth is undeniable—she’s stronger, more confident, and more willing to embrace her power and destiny. Watching her slowly accept who she is and what she might become was incredibly satisfying. She doesn’t just react to events anymore; she steps into them. Her transformation feels earned and powerful.

I lost my mother to cancer 18 years ago so let me tell you the scene with Merry got me in tears. That’s was really emotional for me.

Neil kept suprising me, he lost so much in the story right now and he still the strong fae male he was at the beginning even if his perspective completely change in that book.

And that cliffhanger… brutal is the only word for it. I literally had to sit there for a moment after finishing the last page. The ending raises the stakes even higher and leaves so many questions unanswered. I’m both excited and slightly terrified to see what happens next.

Overall, this book delivered everything I wanted: action, character development, emotional intensity, and jaw-dropping reveals. It might honestly be my favorite in the series so far. I cannot wait to see where the story goes next.

Court of Earth and Sky drew me in with its immersive world and strong character-driven storytelling, but it was Tessa and Neil who truly made this book stand out. Tessa continues to be a determined and resilient protagonist, navigating a world full of secrets, shifting loyalties, and high stakes. Her continued growth throughout the story felt natural and earned, and I loved watching her come into her own as the plot unfolded and more layers to her character were revealed.

Neil added an incredible layer of depth to the story. His character is complex and guarded, and his dynamic with Tessa was one of my favorite aspects of the book. Their interactions were full of tension, trust, and emotional weight, making their relationship feel authentic and compelling without overshadowing the larger story.

Heather D. Grace does a fantastic job balancing action, emotion, and world-building, keeping the pacing engaging from start to finish. This book wrecked me in the best way possible, and I do not know how I will possibly wait for the next one. The plot kept me fully invested, and the character relationships made the stakes feel personal and meaningful. Court of Earth and Sky is a gripping read that lingers long after the final page.

Court of Earth and Sky is book 4 of this series and, man, it will take you on a RIDE. I'll keep this review spoiler free, but just know it is so hard to do that!
This book starts right where book 3 left off and the adventure immedately begins. I was surprised about what they found in the village they discovered in the beginning of the book 👀 It definitely helped answer some questions I had from book 3. I didn't think the group's battles with the skath could get any more intense after the last book, but I was very wrong! I am so curious how the skath get information. Are they just hanging out in the shadows all over the place??
Also, Tessa and Neil's relationship is soooo swoon worthy in this book!! It just keeps getting better and sweeter and spicier! Again, no spoilers, but you'll definitely be kicking your feet.
I cannot wait for book 5. Court of Earth and Sky answered lots of my questions in the series so far, but also made me add new questions to the list. It is packed with excitement and intrigue and will keep you turning pages. This series is a fun read with just enough world building to paint a picture of the realms without being too long. I highly recommend for anyone who loves a VERY slow burn or who are just getting into romatacy.
I received an ARC.

ARC review- this is book four in an epic fantasy adventure. I love that each book shows our ragtag group moving to a new part of the continent and building friendship and trust with them. But boy does this book bring the heartbreak.

Dual POV
Reluctant chose one
Grumpy x Sunshine
Found family
Bonded animal companions
Portal Fantasy
Hidden magic
High stakes and heartbreak
Spice 2 chilli peppers out of 5

Our FMC Tessa is growing into herself, her powers, and her confidence. I love how she is portrayed and how she is moving through uniting the fae world, changing everything the fae know.

Our MMC Neil is a fae guardian tasked with finding and protecting the chosen one. He's finally seeing through all the brainwashing that has happened, and I am here for it!

I love the dynamic with the bonded animals - leath and how we can see what they think. And the found family is growing and becoming more dynamic.

Overall, these are very action-packed books, really enjoyable reads. They are part of a series, and you should read them in order, but there is such a rhythm to the books that it's worth it

I just need a moment here to collect myself. What a ride! This book drops.. no, throws you right into the action and if it's been a little while since you read the third in the series you might also wonder what in the actual is going on. Do a refresh before diving in, don't be me. This was non stop action, fighting for their lives, passion, grief, and an actual ride on winged creatures. Each book in the series introduces new characters or new creatures. Each book raises the stakes. This one? We have family reunions where Tessa finally meets her father, then has to rescue him (because she's always rescuing someone!) and finally taking him home to again attempt to heal her mother. What a homecoming that was! The demons are getting stronger and smarter, and are getting more challenging to fight. But Tessa is getting stronger, too. Or, well, something is changing in her. Wow that ending had me shook. And the forbidden love between Tessa and Neil was so sweet between all the horrors they have been experiencing. So.. when do we get the next book? Are we in for a villain arc from our soft-hearted half fae? I'm here for it!

4.5 ⭐️ (I may have read this whole book in one sitting)

I genuinely don’t know how she does it, but these books just keep getting better and better. This is definitely my favorite in the series so far.

I love that each book picks up exactly where the last one left off. Neil and Tessa’s relationship continues to grow stronger, and watching their bond deepen has been one of the most satisfying parts of this series. They truly had me kicking my feet.

Az and Tessa are also getting closer as their magic strengthens, and I’m very invested in how that dynamic continues to evolve. I especially love how their found family keeps expanding.

While there were fewer skaith attacks, there were moments that genuinely devastated me, balanced with some incredibly sweet ones that reminded me why I love these books so much.

And I really thought we might escape without a cliffhanger this time. Everything felt almost too happy with less than ten pages left, and I should have known better. Heather does not play.

I’ve ARC read this entire series so far, and I can’t wait to see how it all concludes.

Action-packed? Absolutely. But this book doesn’t just move — it surges. Each installment in this series climbs higher, and Court of Earth and Sky feels like a full crescendo: spice, heartbreak, reconciliation, purpose, betrayal… and just enough chaos to keep your pulse elevated.

Tessa remains the heart of it all. She wants to see the good, be the good — and it’s both beautiful and slightly terrifying. Because that cliffhanger? It hints that her sweetness might carry a shadow. I’m intrigued… and mildly concerned.

Neil, our perpetually grumpy guardian, has had his world turned inside out. Between claiming Tessa, navigating Naomi, and uncovering the court’s brainwashing, he’s barely had time to breathe — and now more betrayals? I genuinely have no idea how he’s getting out of this one. Which is exactly the point.

The found family element continues to shine, growing deeper and stronger with every blow they endure. It’s emotional, messy, and wonderfully human beneath all the fantasy drama.

And that ending? Bold. Slightly cruel. Completely effective.

Another wild ride — and I’m not ready to step off.

Beta read…🤍

I wish I could give this one more stars ⭐️ for the 4th book in the series Heather does a phenomenal job of keeping the suspense building, the character development growing, and the twists oh the twist, let’s just say I couldn’t put it down.

All our favorites return, along with some new ones that are going to make this journey/ prophecy so much more entertaining. Okay not all entertaining. I had laugh out loud moments, 2nd hand embarrassment moments (yes those can happen while reading), moments of it’s about time, and heart stopping moments.

Heather brings it this book! Teressa and Neil’s group of misfits are so worth reading. Especially if you love world building, found family, finding one’s self, spice, animals that are honestly smarter than their counterparts 😂. A series that keeps you wanting more! You do have to start with book one, but don’t worry these are being released relatively fast so you don’t have to wait long for book 5🩷

You know how dessert is always the best part of any meal?? Well, that's how I feel about this author's stories! The ending always has the most twisty of surprises, leaving me desperate for the next installment. Yes, there's action, found family and magic but the conclusion never misses the sweet spot for me.

Tessa and Neil have changed so much since book one and that growth has been wonderfully satisfying to follow. Neil was a pebble in my shoe for quite a while but now I appreciate his single mindedness and strength. Tessa still takes too many risks for my blood pressure but watching her selfless use of magic warms my heart.

There were emotion filled scenes in abundance, some hints at nefarious deeds and some new and interesting (or 'interesting' 🙄) characters this time around, all of which brought plenty of energy to each page.

This really is a series to keep readers on the edge of their seats.

Another cliffhanger… 😕 I received this book as an ARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
In this stage of the story, Neil and Tessa continue on their journey, and along the way they learn more about the struggles that continue to plague their group. The skath are growing in strength and learning new ways to defeat all who cross their path. New friends and foes, and a long lost relative make for interesting scenes in the story line. There really is never a dull moment with Heather D Grace’s characters! The growth and development of each of the main characters and new character introductions are done so well, I just want to jump into the story and go on this journey with them! I have so many questions after how this one ended, and so can’t wait for the next books.
Without giving too many spoilers away- I’ll just say read this! You won’t regret it! And now I sit and wait patiently for the next instalment!

Trigger warning- on page death of an integral character 💔

Court of Earth and Sky is the fourth book in the Hidden Courts of the Fae series written by Heather D. Grace.

💜 prophecy
💜 found family
💜 different realms
💜 twists and turns
💜 🌶🌶🌶 spice

This book picks right up where the last book left off. We find our rag tag group on the beach fending off pixies, trying to heal a hippogriff, and a stampede of elk-like creatures. Will the group be able to walk away from that encounter? Tessa can heal some, but will her healing be enough for the hippogriff? What will they encounter next on their journey eh to complete this prophecy?

The world building keeps expanding and adding more depth. We meet new characters and the characters that we have already met grow in depth as well. Tessa keeps growing and I enjoyed watching as her relationship with Neil grows as well. So much happens within this installment of the series. I did enjoy this book and look forward to the next one as this one ends on a cliffhanger.

AHHH I KNEW IT! I knew this book would make me cry, multiple reasons though, some unexpected! 😢 Up and Rebecca Yarros-ed this mess 😭 Even the ending, girl what is happening?! I have guesses that include secret bloodline ties or the constant draws from the Earth 🫣 There are most definitely multiple rats around our beloved found family. Neil more than deserves his HEA, that man is 🥵 Thank you for attending my edited down TED Talk I just scream yelled to my husband who has no idea what I'm even talking about 💁‍♀️🤣 And they say reading is relaxing, girl I am the memes you see about reading being stressful 🤦‍♀️

ANYWAYS, I strongly recommend this series for those that love fast paced, action packed, magical creatures, magic, spice, and an overall great story! This book in particular had my mind working overtime trying to figure out the twists hidden throughout the whole series. The action will make your heart race and worry for fictional people for sure.

We're Back and Another Cliffhanger

Book 4 is here and I am not well. We jump right back into the storyline where book 3 ends. It sucks you right back into the journey and doesn't let go until the end.

The action in this one is off the charts!! With the story progressing the action and the details are getting bigger and better. The relationships between the main characters are coming together amazingly. The bond is there and we see and feel it. There is spice when needed but not overshadowing the story.

With Tessa and Neil one step closer to finishing the prophecy we see things speed up, enemies come out of hiding, and the tension burn brighter. Just when you think you know where the story is going the author rips everything away and gives you something else to focus on.

I cried. I screamed. I threw my kindle a couple times. This book does end with another cliffhanger to leave our hearts crying for more. I cant wait to see how the journey continues in book 5.

Thank you to Heather D. Grace for sending me an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Once again, we're thrown into the story of Neil, Tessa and their band of misfits. I've always appreciated how the author takes you exactly where you left off the last book.

Tessa's powers are growing and evolving. My favorite part is that she found Carson! What a great twist! My love for Neil and Tessa grows as theirs does. But the ending?! Flying off on a Pegasus as a possible demon??? What now?!

Side Note: there was one line that has STUCK with me since I read it. During one of the fights with the Skaith, they say a name "..... get out of the way!" or something along those lines and I don't know if the MCs didn't hear it, didn't realize it, or it's supposed to be there to drive me crazy but ever since I cannot stop thinking "whyyyyyy are they not questioning said person???? They have to be the one betraying them!!!" Heather, please put me out of my misery here haha

So excited I was able to receive this book as an ARC and get to review it.
I love how the book picks up where it last left off… the only struggle I had was that I read Carson’s story in between so it took me a second to get it all back in line in my brain.
The MMC is amazing, I love that we have been able to see him grow and change from book one. The love he has for Tessa is enough to make a girl jealous.
The FMC I love how she has grown and become stronger throughout the books.
I read it at four stars because some of it was easy to predict what was gonna happen. I also gave it four stars because I wished for a little bit more between Carson and Tessa. I also wish for a little bit more dialogue between Mary and Carson for when she saw him again.
Some areas could have been expanded on in my opinion, but this book was still four out of five stars.., and the spice was wonderful!

Like I said, it makes a girl jealous of the love that Tessa gets from Neil!

Wheeewwww, boy this book did NOT disappoint! Just when I was getting comfy with the series, Heather breaks away from the expected. I am LIVING for this story! I never want to stop spending time in this amazing world that she's built, wrapped up in epic characters, swoony romance, high-stakes battles... *lovesick sigh*

This is also the most intense emotional journey of the bunch. There's no doubting that things are ramping up for the finale, and I am positively breathless with anticipation! I knew from book 1 that this series would be fabulous, but the depth of everything the author has built... I just... I have no words.

If you haven't started this series yet, honestly, you're missing out. This is the kind of series that becomes one of your favorites...your comfort go-to for a reread. It just has everything!

I was happy to be back in Tessa and Neil’s world even if I’m backing away from romantasy this year. Of course, since I’ve already read the first three, I had to read the next, right?!? We landed at the beginning of the book right where we left off with the third, and that was right in the middle of a tense scene. The end left us in a terrible pickle, and I am not very happy with how things went down for poor Tessa and Neil especially since it’ll be a little bit before I can find out what happens. This latest is a great addition to the equally great series, and fans of this author and series are sure to be well-pleased. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

The journey to fulfill the prophecy continues for Tessa, Neil, their Leaths and friends. Picking up from where the previous book finished.
We meet a few new faces, friends and foe, along with a family reunion back in the human realm. There's plenty of drama to sink your teeth into with more fighting action from the Skaith which leads to devastating consequences for the group.
I loved seeing more developments to Tessa's magic and watching as her relationship with Neil becomes less secretive. We end on another cliffhanger, leaving the reader with several questions, anxiously hoping it's not too long a wait to find out the answers!

Thank you to the author for allowing me to read an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Hi,

I was given this book to ARC read by Heather D. Grace's team.

I enjoy this series. The magic system is fascinating and the introduction of new characters and the way that their relationships develop is believable. There are times though where I feel like the characters are deliberately kept lurching from one crisis to another to keep them from actually thinking about things. Even when they have time to think about things they never seem to. These characters spend hours and days travelling but they never seem to discuss the details of the mission that they're trying to complete. Even when things are ridiculously obvious. I'd personally like more in-depth, complex development but overall the book and series is an enjoyable read.

I'm enjoying how each book in this series picks up where the last one leaves off without having to wait years for the next book.

An Urban Fantasy filled with adventure, magic, slow burn romance and character development. I'm enjoying seeing Tessa come into her own and learning to hone her magical abilities and with Neil at her side she is able to accomplish anything. The progression of Tessa and Neil's relationship was a true slow burn and that flame is still burning hot.

I'm excited to see how this journey ends because not only did Tessa find her father but there are other secrets and mysteries that are being uncovered at every turn ending this book with a cliffhanger leaving readers wondering "how will this journey end?"

Received as a BETA, I am leaving my honest review! This series just became a top favorite of mine. Beautifully written with detailed imagery that brings the story to life in your mind, emotions riding on a wild rollercoaster, as the incredible journey unfolds. Tessa finds truth in her mother’s stories told as a child, which leads to an unforgettable storyline of breathholding suspense and nail biting, action packed scenarios. The slow buildup of forbidden love, and intense battles scenes will keep you gripping at the edge of your seat. The characters are very relatable and will have you cheering them on in this epic, magical journey of prophecy, destiny and healing.

***Spoiler free review***

Some things to note:
Book #4 - books 1-3 MUST be read first, in order as each book ends in a cliffhanger
POV: dual 1st person between Tessa and Neil
Spice- yes!

As with the first 3 books in the series, we pick up right where we left off and jump right into it! That may seem intimidating or hard to keep up with, but I can assure you it’s not! There is never a point in this series where you feel like something should be happening and you get bored. The world building has been consistently moving forward as our little band of misfits travel about. I laughed, I cried, I sobbed, I gasped. Outstanding series. Excited for book 5!

"Lady's tits and by the moon!"

The fourth book of the Hidden Courts of the Fae series and Heather Grace definitely did not disappoint. Keep hold of your seat as this book moves as fast as the others and keeps you glued and turning pages to see what happens next. The characters are fascinating as ever and their growth is forever strengthened. And I love the world of Aurellia, of action, adventure, and brilliant magic system Each book starts where the last book leaves off and each book ends in a cliffhanger. I absolutely highly recommend reading this book and series! I can't wait for the next book!

Amazing!

Heather D Grace has done it again! I just can't get enough of this series and these characters. As usual I was hooked from the first word to the last. I'm usually not into longer series but this one still has my full attention. The characters are still growing and being changed by what's happening around them. We are still meeting new characters and we reunite with some from the prequel The action and adventure is not repetitive. There are some shocking twists. This book will definitely take you on one emotional ride and the cliffhanger just wow. I need book five ASAP!
