Murgul: Brigands of Ruk

Rate this book
She asked the heavens for a hero—but instead, found a weapon who would burn galaxies to protect her.

Gwendolyn

Model. Fashion Icon. Pawn.

“Beauty is only skin deep.” If I heard it once, I heard it a thousand times during my career. My worth—to my parents, my manager, my agent—was measured only by the perfection of my face. Surrounded by people, I was still utterly alone. No friends. No love. No connection. Just a commodity—used for profit, status, and fame. Then one act of madness changed everything. I vanished from the public eye, only to be abducted by beings not of this world. At the lowest point of my life, I found something I never hope. He doesn’t say much, but his actions speak louder than words ever could. I’d wished on countless falling stars for a knight in shining armor to save me from my gilded prison. Instead, fate gave me something far better—a dragon who would set the world ablaze to protect me.

Murgul

Beast. Warrior. Survivor.

“The only constant in life is change.” I’ve always hated that phrase, though I can’t deny its truth. I’ve never known peace or comfort—only pain. My earliest memory is of a sterile room, a masked being driving needles into my flesh, forging me into the perfect weapon. Unfortunately for the Void, they succeeded. I’ve never known tenderness or love. I am an abomination that shouldn’t exist, yet I endure. Then a chance encounter with a lone Velgriddix ship turns my existence upside down. From the shadows of the netherworld, I find her—a light so bright it cuts through my darkness. She is everything I’ve ever longed for, everything I’ve been denied. But the horrors the Velgriddix inflicted on me unleashed something inside… and he lives for nothing but her—and will destroy anything that dares to take her away.

This storyline ends in an HEA, but continues on throughout the remaining series as each book concentrates on a particular couple. Have questions? Keep reading, and all will be revealed...

My Thoughts 👇

A mixed bag for me, but overall a pretty enjoyable alien romance. The spice didn’t happen till 50% in, so a slower burn, but the couple spicy scenes in the book were hot hot hot 🥵. I appreciated the Glossary of terms at the beginning of the book! I wound up enjoying Vrog more than Murgul (a second conscientiousness basically), loved when Vrog was the one speaking and in charge.

What fell a little flat for me was that despite the mate bond, I didn’t really feel the connection between them/her proclamation of I Love You, seemed to happen without a lot of time passing for them to truly get to know each other. The other thing I had difficulty with was most of the conversations felt like a teacher explaining something. But when Vrog spoke, it felt much more natural than all the other conversations. So yeah, pros and cons for me with this one, but Vrog’s presence and the spicy scenes I felt were top notch!

My Rating: 3.5/5 Spice: 3.5/5

This is book 4 in a series and although I was told it could be read as a stand-alone, I think it would’ve been easier to follow if the series is read in order, to have more of a backstory going in.

I love this series, which I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned…a “few” times. It’s set in the same world as the House of Dar or Dar’s World as I like to refer to it. Every time they mention Dar, I’m just chomping at the bit, because I always want more of that series too. It’s Dar’s world, we’re all just living in it. I adore these brothers, they have my heart with their backstory. They’re just trying to survive after everything they’ve been through, find their people and obviously I think they are killing it.

Murgul is the quiet short tempered brother…and now we really know why. When there is another sub conscious sharing a body…it’s bound to happen. Think split personality times a lot. Because when the other guy comes out, it’s not to play, well it is actually his idea of fun, but he’s bigger, stronger, meaner and more deadly than all the brothers combined, and yes I know this for a fact. But they are both sweet on their mate, understandably so since she’s like a ray of sunshine in their otherwise cloudy dreary rage filled world. She’s the calm to their storm for sure, their voice of reason, which they definitely need. They all just go together, they shouldn’t work but they definitely do.

Safe read, with a couple that needs each other in a way that most people cannot understand, and they will pull at your heartstrings. Great and fast paced storyline, with some wtf moments. And OMG…the last line of the epilogue was priceless and had me saying OMG wtf…wow, I cannot wait for the next book.

Finally in Murgul, Vrog and Gwendolyn

This is book four in the series and finally it feels like a JJM book. I am a big fan of the DaR universe because of the writing style and family dynamics with the love and danger all wrapped up in the storyline. This book was enjoyable and entertaining. I liked that Murgul was protective of himself, his brothers, and of Gwendolyn. The work that went into writing this book with the added voice was appreciated. That scene where Murgul walked out of his rooms showed and told everyone the truth, so good. The mating bond, marks, and becoming whole and accepted was just a great storyline plus the additional adventure with Bikar. There is a happy ending with the brothers and mates. Looking forward to the next book and to see how Bikar will reach his mate as no one knows how she was tortured by the enemy before her rescue. Read On!

This is a good one

Gwendolyn was a model on Earth before being kidnapped by the snakes from the cave. She was in cave because she’d escaped now Murgul who was abused and changed at his core is afraid of the mating bond that has snapped into place. Can someone so lovely accept him. But Gwen has bad secrets too. I loved how these characters relate back to the DAR storyline too. Pretty steamy also!

Murgul was awesome

The experience of learning about Murgul and Vogel was super. The emerging of the two was worthy of both authors. When Murgul wipes his brother’s butts and reveals himself was epic. Birak and the message from Scout was an excellent lure to next book. Thank you both.

another good book

Another good book from Jennifer. She never lets us down. I adore Murgul. A mix of alien and small boy with his insecurities. His alter ego is sweet too in his own way. I am now about to start the next book. Keep up the good work Jevn. You are brilliant!!!

good

I skipped the third book and read the 4th, cause I thought it would be just repetitive. I glad I did, you don’t miss much in the story continuity. Will look forward to the next book?
