A Joyfully Jay review.

Sigh of Relief is the newest installment in Layla Reyne’s Table for Two series, a set of books focused on the food and wine community in California. This is a sweet and sexy romance with two older characters who are finding another chance at love and both exploring what they truly want for themselves and their futures. The guys encounter one another at a kink party 15 years before the book’s present day and have some meaningful eye contact neither can get out of their head. You just have to go with the fact that this fleeting moment is enough for the men to not only recognize one another all these years later, but feel a connection so deep they haven’t been able to stop thinking about one another (clearly I struggled a bit). But once they reconnect, I think Reyne does a great job showing the pull and chemistry between them. Even though Elton and Archer are in and out of each other’s lives for most of the story, I could believe they were building something real and could feel the connection growing. There is a nice vibe between the men and I really enjoyed them as a couple.

Sigh of Relief by Layla Reyne
Table for Two series #6. M-M erotic romance novella. Mature characters. Can be read as a stand-alone but better if familiar with the author’s various series as characters overlapping is frequent.

Time to put aside the busy work career, the unending errands, and all the demands that come with a successful life.
There are a lot of changes going on with the FBI and the political environment and Assistant Director Elton Morris is tired of it all. Finally connecting with a man he glimpsed but walked away from many years ago is just what he needs now. He and Archer meet at the winery and this time, neither is walking away.

🎧 I listened to an audiobook narrated by Sean Crisden who is able to bring the passion to life. A great way to experience a California winery, fantastic food, and a romance that isn’t too late to covet.

Passion, incredible food, family, and friends make this novella a winning addition to the series. Slow burn and yet still very steamy.

I've been curious about Elton Morris since he first appeared in the Whiskeyverse and it's an inspired move to pair him up with Archer Scott from the Table for Two novella series!

Maybe everything seems like it could appear to happen a bit quickly, especially given the 15 year time gap since the first time their paths crossed, but in Layla's skillful hands, the connection between the two men is established in the single glance they had during a Kink party.

When they meet up again at Ezra and Noah's winery in California, the sparks are just as present, this time Elton's divorced and Archer's hoping to find a partnership as strong as that of his best friends.

Given Elton's job as an FBI assistant director, and his friendship with the Whiskeyverse law enforcement guys, this book is quite obviously political, and rightly so. It sheds a light onto the current situation in the US and how the Justice Department is being used to dispense anything but.

I really liked the way Layla navigated the impact the change in government had on a FBI employee who's not only black, but also queer and I very much loved seeing how Aiden Talley and his wonderful bunch of people, came up with a solution that holds true to their honourable character.

It's ridiculously sexy and smoking hot, of course it is, Layla wrote it, but it's also an emotional read as Elton finds somewhere he can safely let down his guard and just be.

Sigh Of Relief is a novella set in Layla Reyne’s Table for Two world. For a relatively short book (about 34,000 words) it really packs a punch. It’s a bit of a slow burn story (first kiss happened at around 49%) but there is a lot of delicious UST (unresolved sexual tension). The story is set in current day and takes into account the current climate for queer people and immigrants.

This is a great story for lovers of foodie romance as there are a lot of different culinary dishes mentioned (some I had to look up) as well as a lot of reference to various wines and alcohol. There is also one area with some foreign language passages that aren’t translated. I love looking things up and was happy to be reading on a tablet with Internet access so I could use Google Translate. 😊

While this story is linked to the wide universe of stories that Layla Reyne has created, I feel that it stands alone well. However, fans of Layla’s stores will recognize some old friends as secondary characters. All in all, Layla fans and new readers should find this an enjoyable story and the length is just perfect for finishing in one evening.

An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

A great couple and a lovely story.

A short story, but Leyla makes it feel longer, fuller. She crafts stories that really engage you and draw you in. Spanning a number of years, Archer and Elton finally find the right moment in time when they come together and figure out what this next chapter will look like.

We also get some fun cameos, which I always live for!

A rich, heartfelt, full-bodied romance about surrendering to desire, embracing who you are, and finding the person who makes coming home feel possible.

This story is everything I want in a later-in-life romance: emotional, sexy, tender, and filled with the delicious ache of two men realizing that maybe it’s not too late to choose love and to finally choose themselves.

The vineyard setting is absolutely gorgeous, providing the perfect backdrop for a romance that unfolds with the same patience and care as a fine wine. The gruff-but-big-hearted winemaker completely stole my heart, while the closeted FBI director brought such a poignant layer of vulnerability to the story. Watching these two men navigate buried desires, old regrets, fear, and the possibility of a future together made their connection all the more meaningful.

I especially loved the slow-burn chemistry. There’s something incredibly satisfying about two mature men who have spent years putting other things first finally allowing themselves to want something for themselves. Their attraction is palpable, but it’s the emotional intimacy that really makes this romance shine.

This novella beautifully explores second chances, authenticity, courage, and the realization that sometimes the thing you’ve been searching for has been waiting for you all along. It’s sexy without losing its tenderness, emotional without becoming heavy, and ultimately incredibly hopeful.

Pour me another glass, I’m not ready to leave this vineyard yet. 🍷

(I received an ARC for this book)

Trigger Warnings include:
discussions of police/FBI activity, the well being of immigrant workers/peoples discussed on page, discrimination (racist and homophobic instances mentioned/insinuated), loss of loved ones discussed on page, on page consensual sexual activities including voyeurism, exhibitionism, impact play (flogging), restraint

I adore this series’s found family, and especially the Whiskey Verse, so having everyone all together and stories bleeding together is SUCH a good feeling! I loved every second of spending time with Elton and Archer. (Especially Elton, because after everything he’s been through he finally gets the HEA he deserves!) Elton needs to get away from the stress of the job (something he’s earned!), and Archer is all too happy to have him as a guest. Elton and Archer have been passing ships for years. Catching glimpses of each other, sharing friends and being part of experiences just missing each other. But it’s their time now, and they’re going to do everything they can to have each other. Have the love they each deserve. This book felt like a hug. After all the hard and scary things I endured through the Whiskey Verse thus far, I earned this one!

My Favorite Quotes:
• “I came back for you.”
• “I’m fifty-five and know what I want. Your c!ck. In my mouth.”
• “You stand at the front of my mind. And beside me at the edge of a cliff I need help jumping off of.”
• “You were the whole reason I was there.”
• “I think I’m in love with you.” “Good, because I think I’m in love with you, too.”
• “I don’t want to go another day without you.”

7/10 Dirty Birdy
5/10 Forced Proximity
5/10 Friends to Lovers
4/10 Second Chance

Another great book by a favorite author. Listen, I’ve wanted to see Elton Moore get a book since he was introduced in Nic and Dom’s story. I was in no way disappointed and the wait was well worth it. Elton and Archer were such interesting characters. I love that they’re both older than typical protagonists. Add in them being kinky and you couldn’t have made me happier. And let me tell you right now, the kink aspect was handled really well. As was the delicate nature of dealing with the fear and uncertainty a lot of the characters went through regarding the political setting of the story.

I haven’t read a lot of romances that are contemporary to the point where they deal with the recent events in American history. At least not to the extent this one did. It stirred up a lot of feelings in me to see these strong men and women dealing with events that also shook me to my core. Watching the entire (well, most) Whiskeyverse find a way through the scattered and terrifying politics made me hopeful in a way I haven’t felt very much lately. Yes, it’s fiction, but fiction is the lens through which we see what could be.

A great story by a fantastic author.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this latest title from Layla Reyne but found it to be quite engaging. And in some ways I found it to be a fascinating meditation on rediscovering love later in life, along with facing a changing world and coping with those changes.

The main focus is on Archer, a winemaker who previously appeared in an earlier "Table for Two" novella, and Elton, an assistant FBI director from the "Whiskeyverse". It's an unusual crossover but it works, with Elton and Archer each giving the other a reason for continuing the fight for justice in an everchanging world.

Behind the main love story, there's a lot of cameos and appearances from other characters in both series. There's an interesting reset in the works as Elton and his friends make plans for continuing their crusade of sorts out of official channels. I liked how Reyne brought in real world events and showed how those happenings affected the various characters, forcing a reset for their friend group.

This helps set the story up for an interesting reset for these characters going forward and I'm looking forward to seeing where the author goes from here.

I appreciate this novella so much for many reasons, including:
1) it features older MCs and a sweet blossoming relationship
2) Elton is at a significant turning point in his life, both personally and professionally
3) Elton's part in the Whiskeyverse means there are cameos from and references to some old favourites
4) Archer's presence in the Rosin Hospitality family means supporting roles here by old favourites from the other restaurant environments
5) there's no shying away from some very real world feelings and fears
6) the wine and food! I love how much this author's culinary passion features in the Table For Two stories

Yes, there's a lot to love packed into a quick, but very entertaining read. There's also a glimmer of hope that there could be opportunities to see these characters again, although life might look significantly different for all of them. A reader can live in hope that the door to more is ajar! And in the meantime, there's always time for a universe re-read.

An ARC was provided by the author - this is my honest review.

This book is a novella in the A Table for Two series. Each book is a standalone read and features a different couple. This is the story of Elton Morris and Archer Scott. Elton is black and bisexual. He is also an FBI assistant director. His work and political landscape has lots of bias and challenges. Archer is a winemaker. There is a fifteen year old connection between the two of them from a brief glance at a kink party. The two meet again at Ezra and Noah's winery in California. Even after fifteen years, there is still a spark between the two of them. This is their story. The book is written well and is easy to read. I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. I enjoyed this book. I especially liked that the two MCs were older and more experienced. It was nice to see characters from the Whiskey Verse world included in this book. It is a good second chance slow burn story. I enjoyed this book.

Featuring Elton Moore who must reckon with what it means to be a black man in a position of power in the FBI in 2025 when he's also bisexual and k!nky and Archer Scott an older winemaker who's trying to live his life as a winemaker while dealing with creeping hostilities to the queer and immigrant communities as well. I've personally been curious about Elton Moore since he showed up in Trouble Brewing to help Nic out with Vaughn and I finally get his story! I loved seeing older main characters get their own story featuring conflict and concerns reflective of the times we're living in that still gives off some hope for the future. It's a short and sweet novella with a romance that blossoms into something believable despite the short story length. If you're a fan of any of the previous Table For Two novellas you'll definitely enjoy Sigh of Relief.

I loved Elton and Archer’s story, and that they are part of the author’s bigger universe. I liked how they met briefly years earlier, and then again. The backdrop of the vineyard adds to the feel of the story. I also liked that the author didn’t shy away from present day events and how they are impacting people.

I enjoy stories with older MCs, and the life experience that brings to a new relationship. I oved Elton and Archer’s connection, and how they are finally able to act on their mutual attraction and get to know each other. They’re both interesting characters, and well suited.

I liked the realism of Elton realising how untenable his job is going forward, and loved the role of Redemption Inc in making a difference to those who need someone on their side. The appearances, and cameos, of characters from other stories was an added bonus.

Their HEA is very satisfying, and sweet.

As a long time fan of this lady I had high hopes for Sigh of Relief and it certainly didn't disappoint! One of my favourite romantic suspense authors, I always love how seamlessly Layla handles series crossovers, so getting to see familiar faces from the 'Whisky' and 'Table For Two' universes pop up was a real treat.

And the chemistry between the main characters? Off. The. Charts 🔥 Elton and Archer actually first caught each other’s eye 15 years previously, and that looooooong slow burn completely explodes the second they finally reunite. Layla serves up some seriously hot kinky elements, but what I loved most is how that intense intimacy helps them process their pasts and bloom as a couple.

While the modern American political aspect of the story might not be for every reader, it’s handled beautifully here, making the suspense, tension and storyline feel incredibly relevant. This story is an absolute emotional rollercoaster, full of apprehension and scorching chemistry. A great addition to the series.

I have been a fan of Ms. Reyne for a while and this book is a good addition to the Table for Two series. I enjoyed it from the start.

In this quick installment, Elton and Archer's story is told. Elton is at a crossroads in his life and looking to be with the man he met 15 years before. Archer is a silver fox of a man looking for a relationship. Can the pair find what they are looking for in each other?

I enjoyed the story and the cameo appearances from the Whiskey Universe of characters. The main characters are well written and it was was nice to see older characters since they are at different places in their life.

Overall, I enjoyed this quick read and would recommend it to others.

Gah….I love how this author skillfully crafts characters that just draw me into the story. I can’t help but fall in love with them all. All the familiar faces! I haven’t read all of the stories but I have read a good chunk of them. Archer and Elton are absolutely combustible! Archer is a silver fox of a man who just wants a relationship - a connection - like so many of his friends have found. Elton has been too busy with his job and shifting priorities, but now he desperately needs a chance - and to chase down that man he locked eyes with 15 years before. They will absolutely set the world on fire, if their timing ever works out. But when it does, oh the satisfying sigh of relief!

Poignant and thought provoking

I thoroughly enjoyed this novella giving Archer and Elton their happily ever after. I also loved all the cameos. I think we were only missing a few swimmers! (I’m going with the visit to NC being our Variable Onset guys.)

I liked the check in with how the Whiskeyverse is handling this current administration especially as we see the complete cluster*#&@ the FBI and US Attorneys have become thanks to the politicization of the Justice Department.

Well done!

Sigh of Relief is the sixth book in the Table for Two series and can be read as a standalone. I really enjoyed this book and the characters. In the beginning of the book I wasn't sure how I was going to feel since it hints to some mf s3x, but in the end it is a mm book and I loved reading about some silver foxes.

What a captivating read, Elton and Archer were such a great pairing, and I really appreciated getting a later-in-life romance where both characters felt established in their own worlds but still had plenty to discover about themselves. The vineyard setting added a lovely atmosphere, and I enjoyed watching their attraction develop into something deeper and more meaningful.

There’s a good balance of romance, emotional vulnerability and heat here, with both men having to confront the parts of themselves they’ve kept hidden. I also thought the way the wider political uncertainty was woven into the story added an extra layer of emotion without taking away from the romance. A heartfelt and memorable read.
