Onyx can shatter, boughs can break, but love can rise victorious.
Ariadne, the Golden Rose and Dhemon Queen, never imagined herself at the head of an army. Now, after walking down the aisle for a second time, she has entangled herself in a game she does not want to play with the King of Valenul. With hardly any time for preparation, she must locate the dhemon ritual, save her husband from an eternal darkness within himself, and lay siege to her own kingdom.
But time is running out for Azriel, the broken and fading Dhemon King. Unable to hold back the images of his wife in the arms of another man or dead in his hands, his bond and mind is in tatters—unreachable by anyone other than Ariadne. With the shadows creeping in from all sides, he has two critical complete the ritual and kill the Vampire King.
Collecting unlikely allies from across Northern Myridia becomes a critical piece to the puzzle now that their enemy has discovered their secret. Everyone now knows the threat that dragons pose and Valenul is ready. Together, Ariadne and Azriel must use every possible avenue to ensure victory or die trying, because failure guarantees a life of misery.
I absolutely cannot believe this is the end! My heart will need about seven to ten business months to recover from the goodbye.
If you are reading this review and have not read any of the series - go back to the Golden Rose of Valenul and start there for the full experience of getting thoroughly wrecked by Enna.
For the final installment, we pick up a few months after the end of the last book. Aridaine is in the clutches of Loren Gard, the latter I still consider one of the most vile villains to disgrace a page. Her love Azriel is with the rest of her found family of Dhemons, still suffering from the effects of his broken bond, along with the full cast of characters reeling from everything that happened at the climax of book three.
So let me say this right now, the first several chapters were full of action from multiple POV's that had me on a razor's edge as I turned the page to see how the opening act would play out.
After that, the book is a journey of healing, heartbreak, and the fight for the future of all the people Valenul to get them out of the Loren's demented rule.
The story does end on a HEA, but it is a hard fought one that had me constantly yelling, "Enna, how could you??"
Even with the emotional damage, the fourth book in The Dhemon Wars is a satisfying conclusion to the series. I loved this whole series, until the very end.
This book is spicy, I'd rate it around 🌶️🌶️.5 (Pairings include three couples: MF, MM, and FF.)
I’m genuinely sad that this series has come to an end. Enna is an exceptional writer with a remarkable ability to craft strong character arcs, immersive worlds, and to weave together politics and romance in a way that keeps you up far too late, unable to put the book down.
One of the things I loved most about this series is the sensitivity of the Dehmons, and especially the portrayal of a male main character who openly cries and expresses his emotions with vulnerability. That emotional depth felt refreshing and meaningful, and deviates from the typical brutish warrior MMCs in this genre. Our FMC also shows tremendous growth throughout the series, truly stepping into the role she needs to play in order to achieve their ultimate goal.
This series has everything that makes a great fantasy romance: yearning and pining, dragons, vampires, demons, politics, some spice, fae, shifters, fated mates, found family, and a rich cast of side characters who add depth and dimension to the story. Each element contributes beautifully to the overall narrative.
While much of the final book focuses on war and fighting, and I personally would have loved a bit more peace and cozy moments, it was still a strong and satisfying finale that felt true to the story and its characters. The epilogue at the end was the closure I needed. A fitting end to a series I won’t soon forget.
Do yourself a favor AND READ THIS SERIES. It’s going to be big one day!!!
I’ve been anticipating this release since the moment I finished book 1 and now that it’s here and I INHALED the story, I am so heartbroken it’s over.
Just as the first 3, TOBOK was beautifully written and brought action and high stakes that had me sweating from page 1. Enna’s writing has only improved with each installation of this series and she knows just how to hurt her reader’s feelings and take them on an emotional roller coaster through grief, fear and happiness.
At this point in the story, our beloved characters are gearing up to face the oppressive new vampire king with a band of unlikely allies. Everything they’ve trained for, everyone they’ve lost, has brought them all to these final moments. I was racing towards the final page to see who survived and what would become of Azriel and Ariadne’s fate and I was not disappointed.
Book 4 of The Dhemon Wars perfectly ties off every character’s arc leaving a deep feeling of satisfaction & completion. No stone is left unturned and for that I am grateful. It was perfect, absolutely perfect.
Thank you Enna for these characters and this world.
The final piece to this series. The whole thing was a rollercoaster honestly. The character development. Hello 👋🏽 Ari from a delicate traumatized golden rose to a badass healing warrior Dhemon Queen. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Their travels and trials were not without anguish and crushing heartbreak. But as they continued to fight for what was theirs they came out on top and deserved every bit. These books broke me a little bit, but Enna was able to put me back together.
Thank you Enna for bringing me on this journey. These characters really will stay with me forever. UNTIL THE VERY END.
