A near-future sci-fi anthology about AI, cosmic mysteries, and the fragile future of humanity.
Fallout from the Singularity brings together four hard science fiction stories blending artificial intelligence, alien intervention, and deep-space discovery. Each tale explores a different moment when humanity faces a turning point—whether from an alien machine watching Earth, a rising superintelligence reshaping our world, or an impossible phenomenon emerging from the darkest regions of space.
Fast-paced, imaginative, and grounded in real science, this collection is perfect for fans of near-future speculative fiction, AI thrillers, and cosmic sci-fi.
If you enjoy stories about first contact, advanced AI, existential threats, or the unknown hiding just beyond our reach, this anthology belongs on your shelf.
Wolfgard Braun writes about first contact, artificial superintelligence, and the beautifully strange edges of the cosmos. His path to releasing "Fallout from the Singularity" is almost as strange as the stories he tells. ——— The DOGE ran over my Karma ——— It started with a well-timed push from Elon Musk and the DOGE crowd threatening his new aerospace engineering job at the US Air Force in early 2025. The timing was unfortunate enough that he took the hint and left the position he had just recently obtained. His voluntary resignation granted him six months of paid freedom. Time to finish one big sci-fi story and write two shorter new ones. ——— 3I/ATLAS ——— One story, "Watcher’s Wake", was about an interstellar drifter gliding into the Solar System to stealthily observe Earth. Two months later, on his birthday, astronomers discovered 3I/ATLAS, only the third confirmed interstellar visitor in history. The comet had many unexpected behaviors and has generated much speculation regarding its true nature and origin. The timing felt like a fortunate cosmic coincidence. ——— Limitless ——— Shortly afterward, while being treated for chronic insomnia and daytime fatigue, a sleep specialist prescribed a new, temporary medication and asked if he’d ever seen "Limitless". Perplexed, Braun responded that he loved that movie. The doctor then revealed that the fictional NZT-48 pill was very loosely based on the very same medication he was prescribing. Braun was stunned. He was already finalizing his manuscript, which paralleled the movie’s protagonist, who rapidly wrote a spectacular new novel with his newfound, vastly heightened intellect. No superintelligence emerged for Braun (just enough focus and alertness to keep writing). ——— Happy Birthday ——— Braun took all these strange, perfectly timed nudges (the long, paid vacation, the medication, and the interstellar birthday gift) and channeled them into "Fallout from the Singularity", his anthology exploring humanity’s encounter with alien intellects, rogue AI, and cosmic mysteries. ——— Watcher's Wake ——— He now writes under the watchful eyes of Maximus, Bruno, and the Choir of Glass… and occasionally thanks Elon Musk for accidentally giving him the push he needed. ——— The Real Me ——— Note that Wolfgard Braun is David Brown’s pseudonym. ——— The Job ——— Brown is an aerospace engineer with over thirty years of experience in Guidance, Navigation & Control for advanced flight systems, including the B-2 Stealth Bomber, four missile defense systems, a commercial space station, a hypersonic test bed, and the Paveway Laser-Guided Bomb. ——— Free Time ——— Outside of engineering, he’s a devoted husband and father of two, an animal enthusiast with a soft spot for everything from cats and dogs to snakes and scorpions, and an avid player of strategy and role-playing games. He’s also a lifelong fan of science fiction short stories. ——— Monsoon Madness ——— His nonfiction work (written as David Brown) has been featured in "Monsoon Madness: Oro Valley Writers Forum Anthology" by David R. Davis, where he shares powerful and deeply personal stories drawn from a life lived at full intensity. Stories that prove reality sometimes twists harder than fiction ever could. ——— Quora ——— Brown has over 800K views on Quora, where he has briefly received the most viewed author title for interstellar travel, extraterrestrial intelligence, extraterrestrial life, and the Fermi Paradox.
Five stars for creativity and insight into the deep nature of reality. The content may be dangerous for those limited to current AI world view. Consider ln Toy…the logic and the dilemma facing Bruno where he shouts to search the data across the planet for things that are beyond our imagination to generate. And, if the Galactic overseer were to reach deep inside us and repair us without our permission, what would that do to our free will. How might AI bring the Fermi Paradox event upon us? Too much insight into deep reality in this anthology to discuss in one review.
Let me preface by saying I typically despise A.I. and feel like it is cheating and stealing work from others...
BUT in the case of this book, I can see how much creativity and talent had to come from the author himself to be able to get ChatGPT to generate a story and how much he would have had to alter it to make it flow into anything entertaining.
The book is a fascinating read and way different than anything else I have ever read before. I have never thought of A.I. and its connection to consciousness in the ways that the author presents in the stories and enjoyed how it made me stop and consider new viewpoints. A combination of science fiction, philosophy, morality, and even verging on humorous horror makes this book a great read for just about any type of reader, and not just those who enjoy science fiction. This book might not end up being a mainstream bestseller, but it is definitely a work of art and overall a great read.
On a side note, I want to thank the author/publisher for having slightly larger font. For people with vision impairment, the larger print size helps a lot.
A fascinating read that explores several creative and sometimes humorous aspects of some current topics: artificial intelligence and the possibility of alien probes visiting our solar system. What would a visit from an extraterrestrial intelligence looks like, and how might it play out on Earth? What would an artificially created intelligence created by humans that inevitably exceeds human intelligence become? Hard to envision from our current viewpoint, but Wolfgard Braun clearly possesses and intelligence and creativity capable of imagining these concepts.
The Singularity arrives, and the fallout changes everything. This is more than science fiction, it's a brilliant, masterstroke adaptation that brings the chilling potential of an AI superintelligence to vivid life. It's a gripping exploration of how a world reborn in deep space grapples with god like technology. A must-read for any fan of mind bending, high stakes speculative fiction.
I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy this at first because it's far from my typical read. I've got to say, this was masterfully written and engaging. It's an anthology, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The writing isn't overly complicated, the stories are short and sweet and the overall concept is thought provoking. Highly recommend.
Fallout from the Singularity is an imaginative and thought provoking sci-fi story with unique ideas about AI and the human connection. The world-building is detailed, the concepts are creative, and it’s clear how much passion and effort went into writing it.
