Kathy Lockheart is an Amazon Top 25 bestselling author and Kindle Unlimited All-Star of Suspenseful Romance novels. Her books—which have a unique blend of emotional elements typically found in women’s fiction and the romance and danger elements found in romantic suspense—contain themes that include dark romance antiheroes, enemies to lovers alpha tropes, and forbidden romance angst. When she’s not writing, you can find her silently cursing the person who put fluorescent lights in dressing rooms.
SECRETS AND THE CITY Deadly Illusion Fatal Cure Lethal Justice Grave Deception
This book balanced suspense and emotion so beautifully.
Faith’s story is heavy and deeply moving, shaped by a childhood in foster care that left her with lasting scars but also incredible resilience. When she becomes the prime suspect in a murder she can’t remember, her fear and vulnerability felt painfully real. Watching her face the weight of her past while fighting to hold onto herself made it impossible not to root for her.
Ryker was exactly the kind of steady presence she needed, even when it meant risking everything. As her lawyer, his loyalty never wavered, and the quiet intensity between them made every interaction feel meaningful. Their connection is built on trust, tension, and years of unspoken feelings, and seeing him stand beside her when everything felt uncertain added so much emotional depth. The suspense kept me invested, but it was their emotional bond that truly held my attention.
What stayed with me most was Faith’s strength and the unwavering support from the people who refused to let her fall. The Sinners and Saints group brought warmth and levity, reminding her she was never alone. While the ending felt slightly quick in places, the emotional payoff and character growth made it such a satisfying read. It was emotional, gripping, and a strong, memorable addition to the series.
This was a beautiful reminder of the power of unwavering love.

Huge thank you to Kathy Lockhart and Valentine PR for the ARC! 😍 All my bookish thoughts are completely my own. ✨
Faith found herself in a bizarre situation, where she ended up covered in blood and being suspected of killing a man. Ryker, one of her brother's friends and the man who always stole her attention, instantly decided to help her by being her lawyer, but can Faith be honest about all the things that happened in her life? Could they win this tough case when everyone was against them?
I was completely captivated by this story even from the first line! It intrigued me from the first page, keeping me on suspense a really long time. There were so many uncertainties, tons of questions and what ifs regarding Faith, not knowing at all what happened for sure in her case. I really liked that the title was chosen perfectly, because it completely represents the idea of this book, because doubt was the main theme of this story. It was nice how all that suspense was intertwined with a wonderful secret, forbidden romance, one which was at the same time sweet and beautiful, but also passionate and pretty spicy. I cannot forget about the awesome and funny friendship between Ryker and the other MMCs from Kathy's previous books. They were delicious and brought the good vibes and that amazing solidarity to this story.
Kathy has done it again, creating such a wonderful story, filled with so many emotions and beautiful characters. I looved their complex connection and how nerve-wracking was Faith's case. I'm so excited for the next book from this series, being already teased by Kathy and already loving everything about it 😍.
Many thanks to Kathy and Valentine Pr for offering me this amazing e-ARC. Looved it!💖

Book 4 in The Sinners and Saints Series Rating: 5⭐️ Spice: 2.5-3🌶️
Captivated! This series already had my heart but WOW, this one blew me away! Kathy, what do you put in your stories because I am utterly obsessed!
Doubt follows Faith-the strongest most caring human to possibly walk this fictional world. Her childhood was spent surving the foster care system and although those years left her battered and broken she has risen as a phoenix with a promise to help those in need. Ryker-the golden boy, the morally gray hero who will fight to the ends of the earth to help those he loves with the honor to always stand by what he believes.
These two…these two are magnetic. The chemistry that they shared in book 3 full on delivered in this book and left no crumbs! I was head over heels swooning at Ryker and his utter devotion to Faith. Risking his career, his reputation, everything on the line to ensure she is FREE. My heart broke for Faith. Every flashback, every time she shared bits of her story, I was an emotional mess. But she is what Ryker calls her, a warrior! Her strength, fierceness, love, and dedication (just to name a few) make her one of the strongest FMCs out there.
Their found family SHOWED up!! Ahhh I love seeing all the characters come together and although there were tears shed, there were moments of pure joy and laugh out loud moments.
I just know that the final book is going to WRECK ME and you know what? I am here for it!
Tropes •broken and fierce FMC •morally grey hero •best friends sister •lawyer/client •found family •foster system
I own ALL of Kathy Lockheart's books. This one... ya'll they keep getting better and better. Each one is perfectly written
Each character stands out and makes you feel like you are right in front of the action that she writes . The characters are beautiful and so relatable.
This story of Ryker and Faith held my attention from the beginning all the way to the last sentence. The special moments and the connections they shared. The funny moments and the secrets that were kept.
This story had its laugh out loud moments and most of all it had me wanting more.
"And to answer your question, Faith, I’ve been mesmerized by you since themoment you walked into my life. You’ve been stuck in my head since I first saw you. It’s never happened with another woman. I think about you when I fall asleep. You’re the first thing I think about when I wake up.”
Harper squinted at me. “You’re much taller than she made you sound. And angrier-looking. And more lamp-resistant.”
When new characters get introduced into the mix. Harper.
Blake frowned deeper. “I’m not hitting on you.” “Really? Because walking up to a stranger and immediately fixating on their face while asking to touch them? That screams, I collect skin suits in my basement.”
The moment where Trust truly begins.
I choose to trust you, even when trust terrifies me.
I was truly immersed into this story but wish it never ended.
Kathy Lockheart is a true genius when is comes to writing a book. She will keep you engaged and coming back for more.
First: the name. Doubt was such a fitting name for this book as it truly shows how powerful a force doubt can be, when it comes to splitting relationships apart. I’ve read all the books in the Saint and Sinner series so far and this one may be at the top of my list now. Because he’s a hotshot criminal lawyer who now needs to save the fmc, who he’s been falling for from going to jail. And the fmc is also his best friend’s little sister. This plot was amazing! I was so hooked because until almost the last moment we don’t actually know if she did it or not. There’s a romantic suspense and murder mystery element to it that I loved. But what I also loved was how Ryker was so determined to save her and love her innocence. Yes there’s doubt, because being a freaking criminal lawyer isn’t easy on his conscience, especially knowing that someone you have prevented from going to jail, is actually guilty. Faith is also such an amazing character, who went through so much trauma and came out with my insecurities that she hides with a tough sarcastic facade. That Ryker sees all the way through. Both Ryker and Faiths character development throughout the book is amazing and gosh I was crying tears of joy when reading their HEA. The plot was so intense and angsty. She’s the convicted murder of the son of the most powerful judge in the city, but luckily she’s surrounded by powerful people who would do anything for her (Ryker being at the top of that list). The plot twists were so good and it was an amazing read from start to finish. I also love the way he calls her “warrior” because she fought like hell through her traumatic childhood and came out as such a fierce, strong and loving woman. Faith has to be one of my favourite fmcs from this series. I loved this book and can’t wait to see what happens with Knox in the next one. I give this a 5/5
Fantastic as always! Such an intense book with the subject matter but also so damn good! Faith went through a lot in her life and I felt so bad for her, I just wanted to hug her most of the book. I admired her fierce determination to be better when all the odds were against her. Ryker had a hard time with what she was going through at times with being her defense attorney and loving her but he came around to understanding her and what she went through. The spice was spicing and the banter between the guys was hilarious as always! Love you Rainbow girl! 🐶 can’t wait for Knox’s story!

I received Doubt in return for an honest review from the author.
This is the fourth book in the Sinners and Saints series which features Ryker and Faith. The series is about five friends so the characters are all connected and part of each story. She's the sister of his best friend and as long as they denied the attraction sometimes you can only deny it so long. Faith is facing murder charges and it's up to Ryker to prove she's innocent before time runs out or she may end up spending her life in prison.
I've been waiting for Rykers story and his relationship with Faith is perfect. They have this undeniable connection even if they both try to avoid but that only works for so long now they are spending so much time together. I love Faith she's a sweetheart and Ryker has always been one of my favorites. The characters are easy to connect with you can't help loving them all.
I'm a huge fan of the authors books she's one of my auto-buy authors as I'm obsessed with her storytelling. I love every book of hers I have read each one has characters that I fall in love with that steal little places in my heart. A story that I have to devour in one reading session because I can't stop till the very last page. As with every book of hers I read it in one session completely hooked. I'm dying to get my hands on Knox's story and can't wait to see how it plays out. The series is dark romance but it's not to dark and it's a beautiful must read series and one of my favorites hands down.
Loved this book, my fav of the series. From the start I was desperate to know what happened in the woods. I was worried it might drag across a whole court case but I was really happy with the ending even though you didn’t find out what happened until nearly the end. Didn’t love the Judge then going homicidal and Ryker becoming a killer though. But still enjoyed the book. I’m now going to be impatiently waiting for Knox and Harpers book because obviously saw that coming. But also what happened to her and what did Knox do!!!!! Didn’t know I loved a mystery so much 😂

This book took me a minute to read and it wasn’t because I wasn’t into it I just didn’t have time to read. Once I was able to sit down. I read it in two days. I loved this book and Faith and Rykers story might actually have been my favorite so far. Excited for Trust to come out in April.
another hit in this series! a murder mystery underneath the character development and romance. and aging the friend group banter (❤️Axel🤣) is Golden ‼️❤️🔥 Faiths found dog 🌈 was hilarious 😂
Doubt is book 4 in the Sinners and Saints series and follows Ryker & Faith's story.
"I killed a man." Except, what if I didn't?
"She was mine to protect now. Mine to defend."
Want to talk about a way to grip your readers from the start? Well that's exactly what Kathy gave us from page one! Amnesia, a murder charge, buried secrets and a defense attorney that will burn the world down for her? Yes! Yes to ALL OF IT!
Ryker is the definition of TOUCH HER & DIE! He's fiercely protective of Faith and believes she's innocent and will do anything to make sure she stays free. The tension between these two is off the charts! Their unresolved feelings for each other is intense and you can feel all the layers of their longing for each other throughout the story.
The suspense kept me engaged throughout and I was even trying to solve this murder mystery myself! Total hook, line and sinker!
If you're a fan of: ✔️ Brother’s Best Friend Forbidden Romance ✔️ “Touch Her and Die” Energy ✔️ Possessive, Protective, Morally Gray Hero ✔️ Grumpy Hero ✔️ Secrets, Lies & Hidden Pasts ✔️ Forced Proximity & Protective Sanctuary
Then this should definitely be added to your TBR!
Another knockout in this series AND I can't wait to get the next book! It's going to be great!
Oh my goodness, Kathy Lockheart has done it again! Doubt is book 4 in the Sinners and Saints series by Kathy Lockheart and like its predecessors, it is a masterpiece in storytelling, character development, and romantic suspense. I absolutely loved this book, Ryker and Faith have my whole heart. Ryker is a criminal defense attorney and member of the Sinners and Saints brotherhood. Faith is Blake's younger sister (Blake is our MMC in Crash, the first book of the series). To say that Faith had a rough childhood would be a gross understatement. Faith's parents were tragically killed when she was young. She and her brother Blake were sent to a foster home and were eventually separated. Faith was horrifically abused by a foster father, leading Blake to kill the foster father in defense of Faith, right in front of her. She bounced around from foster home to foster home after that, facing awful abuse and neglect. During these trying times, Faith had to do things she wasn't proud of, (like stealing so she could buy food when her foster families decided not to feed her), to survive. For Faith, her childhood after her parents' death taught her that she was not worthy. For her, any little pieces of love she was shown were conditional; they were merely handed out in tiny pieces if she did something her foster families approved of. After her parents' death and separation from her brother, Faith never felt loved. She became a colorless shell of her true self, purposefully made herself small so as not to draw negative attention to herself. She would strive to be perfect, to be exactly what others wanted her to be, but in doing so, she not only lost herself, but she also realized that it was never enough. She believed that she was never enough. No foster family ever chose to keep her. She believed this was her fault. She blamed herself for not being enough to warrant love and acceptance. She even blamed herself for Blake having to kill her foster father. Once she aged out of the system, Faith was determined to make it on her own. She wanted to become what she viewed as a good person and leave her troubling past behind her. She attempted to get her life together. She got a job and was able to save enough money to purchase a home, albeit a rundown one, where she could house former foster children who have aged out of the system and need a helping hand to get started on their own in life. She waited to reconnect with her brother until she felt she had enough of her life together to be "worthy" of his love and affection. Once she reconnects with Blake, she is brought into his Sinners and Saints friend group, and she starts to find acceptance.
Ryker is smitten with Faith upon first meeting her. They share a mutual attraction with each other and eventually, they give into that attraction with a kiss in an elevator. After that, there's no stopping Ryker's fall. He's so down bad for her. But at the same time, he's worried about starting anything with her because first, she's one of his best friend's sister (even though said best friend married his own sister), and second, she has walls so high he's afraid he'll never be able to climb over them. He knows Faith had a troubled childhood, but he has no idea everything she's been through. For her part, Faith admits to herself that not only does she find Ryker incredibly attractive, but she likes him. A lot. But her old insecurities rear their ugly heads, and she continues to push him away after they get close. She doubts herself. She doubts that she's a good person, she doubts that she's worthy of a relationship with a man as wonderful as Ryker, she doubts that she's worthy of love, even from her own brother. And then the unthinkable happens. Faith wakes up in the woods next to a dead body with a knife in her hand covered in blood with no memory of what happened. She runs to Ryker, still covered in blood, and begs for help from the criminal defense lawyer. Ryker has his own demons. He's a fighter, he takes on everyone else's problems, but in doing so, he takes so much on his shoulders. He recently started his own law firm with the goal of only representing criminal defendants he believes are innocent. A lofty goal, perhaps, but a horrible experience in his past representing a defendant who, when found not guilty, murdered his accuser, marked Ryker. He's a firm believer in black and white, right and wrong, and no longer wishes to represent anyone in the morally gray category (except his best friend Knox, a fellow Sinner and Saint currently incarcerated for murder, but that's another story (and I can't wait for his story in the last book of the series)). When Faith comes to him, covered in blood, there's no doubt in his mind that he'll help her, he'll defend her. But he has some moments of doubt about a relationship with her. The evidence against Faith is bad and that coupled with a crooked prosecutor and Faith's inability to remember anything that happened causes a few moments of doubt in Ryker's mind as to whether or not he can continue any type of romantic relationship with Faith given his own strict moral code (plus, as her attorney, it would be unethical to be romantically involved with her while representing her). Meanwhile, Faith doubts herself. She believes herself incapable of murder, but she also still sees herself through the eyes of foster families that never wanted her, of classmates that bullied her, and wonders if the problem all along wasn't them, but was her. Maybe she is a terrible person. Maybe she did hurt the man.
However, despite small moments of doubt, Ryker finds he believes with all his heart that Faith is not the kind of person that would kill someone and if she did, she would have only done it in self-defense. He finds that in the end, it doesn't matter because he loves her unconditionally, no matter what. He fights so hard for her and in seeing him fight, even at the possible expense of his own career, of everything he's trying to build, makes Faith believe that maybe she is a person worth fighting for after all. This is a story about believing in yourself. It's about the fight and struggle to overcome societal conditioning that requires us to sometimes become small, colorless versions of ourselves just to please others. It's about letting go of your self-doubt, and believing in yourself. It's about believing with your whole heart that no matter what you've done, you are worthy of love. Ryker and Faith both learn this, and the way Ryker takes this knowledge and fights so hard for Faith, the way he loves her just as she is, the way he demands that she be her whole self and not some watered-down version of it is so beautiful. Kathy gives us a masterclass in storytelling and character development with this book and this entire series. There's humor (oh my gosh, the guys' text group chats, I laughed out loud so hard), emotion, suspense, and of course so much romance (and some spice as well). I won't spoil any of the suspense or the ending, but it's definitely a page turning read that I could not put down. But I think what I love most are the emotional aspects of the story that pull you in because they are so relatable. This is truly a beautiful story and I can't recommend this book or this entire series enough.
When Faith needs help, Ryker, one of her brother's best friends, comes to the rescue. They've had chemistry since they first met, but what she really needs now, is for someone to defend her in this murder case, to believe in her innocence, to trust her. Ryker does all those things, and more. She'll need to come clean with her whole past, though, if she wants to to help Ryker win this seemingly unwinnable case.
Ryker was so accurate when he started calling Faith, "Warrior," because that's what she truly is. The horrors she faced in foster home after foster home, then on the streets, only for her to come out strong, with a compassionate, but bruised heart, I don't know how she did it. She and Ryker were soulmates, and I loved that she finally had someone in her corner who saw her. Oh she had her brother, but that's not the same thing as the kind of love she and Ryker shared, the kind built on a connection that builds with each day, one based on trust and allowing themselves to be vulnerable to each other, knowing they won't be hurt while baring that vulnerability. This series just keeps getting better - Faith and Ryker are my favorite couple yet with their spicy chemistry and the kind of emotional connection that very few people are lucky to have. All of the Sinners and Saints make appearances, and we're given a peek into the upcoming final story when Knox finally gets his turn.
ARC provided by Valentine PR for an honest review.
OHHHH OKAYYYYY LET ME CLOCK BACK INNNN because when I say I had to do a whole recap of the previous books (because I be out here reading EVERYTHING 😩📚) — it reminded me exactly why I was stalking this release date like it owed me money.
AND BAAAAABY 👏🏽 IT 👏🏽 DID 👏🏽 NOT 👏🏽 DISAPPOINT 👏🏽🔥
AXELLLLLLL 😭😭😭 sirrrrrr I hate you in the most loving, toxic, emotionally attached way possible. This man had me in TEARS. Not cute tears. Ugly crying laughing. The GROUP CHAT banter??? Unhinged. Disrespectful. Elite comedy. And his first reaction to “Rainbow”??? I LOST MY ENTIRE MIND. I was wheezing. Couldn’t breathe. Had to pause. Rewind. Gather myself. 💀💀💀
He is an asshole. Capital A. But the kind that has you laughing so hard you forget you were supposed to be offended. Sarcastic. Menace. Stand-up comedy special pending because WHAT WAS THATTTT 😂🔥 Chef’s kiss with extra seasoning and a side of audacity.
Now let’s talk about FAITH 😮💨
“Warrior” doesn’t even begin to cover her reality. That woman wasn’t just strong — she was forged in fire. The strength? Immaculate. The perseverance? Unmatched. The determination? Unbreakable. The FIGHT?? BABY SHE WAS TEN TOES DOWN EVERY SINGLE TIME. 💪🏽🔥
And I supported her 100000%. Because the way she kept standing up no matter what life threw at her?? That’s not just warrior energy — that’s legendary.
Now RYKER 😏😈
Morally gray KING. The “I will fight you but I will END anyone else for you” type?? Say less. He will argue with her, challenge her, test her… but let somebody else blink wrong in her direction and it’s over. Burn it down. Ashes. No survivors. 🔥
That obsessive, protective, slightly unhinged devotion?? I ATE IT UP. He was flawed. He was intense. He was all in. And that kind of loyalty hits DIFFERENT.
Now let’s get into the SPICE because whewwwwww 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Faith girl… vajayjay called out on your behalf!!!! 😭🔥 Because BAAAAABY that man had ZERO reservations. NONE. The tension??? Thick. The way he talked??? Filthy but intentional. The way he moved??? Like he had something to prove and she was the only audience that mattered.
Every scene had me like — excuse me SIR???? The dominance. The control. The way he could’ve said & did ANYTHING with no hesitation??? I needed a glass of water, a fan, and a prayer. 🥵🔥
And the build up?! It wasn’t just spice for shock value — it was layered with emotion, history, power, vulnerability. That kind of chemistry that makes you clutch your chest and your Kindle at the same time. When passion meets obsession meets love?? That’s a dangerous combination and I was HERE FOR ALL OF IT.
This book had EVERYTHINGGGG 😭✨ Banter that had me gasping. Humor that took me out. Trauma that hit deep. Love that felt earned. Spice that scorched the pages. And a happy ending that felt like victory. 🖤🔥
And I am personally offended that I now have to WAIT for the next one. Like excuse me??? I was just emotionally rearranged and now you’re telling me patience is required??? RUDE.
I thoroughly enjoyed this dark, intense romantic suspense, which features a broken heroine with a dark past and many secrets, and a protective alpha hero who fights for her freedom and life. The plot is very well written, fast-paced, action-packed and full of emotion, suspense, danger, secrets, lies, corruption and manipulation, twists and turns, funny moments and spicy love scenes. The tropes are
- Brother’s best friend - Lawyer-client relationship - Forbidden romance - Off-limits - Found family - Band of brothers - Touch her and die - Dissociative Amnesia
I really liked the protagonists. Faith had to learn to be strong the hard way. She still struggles with her past and her bad decisions, but she is strong, determined, caring and warm-hearted, yet doesn't let anyone get too close to her for fear of being hurt or abandoned. Ryker is a bit grumpy, the quiet and disciplined one in their circle of friends, but he is extremely protective and obsessed with Faith. The undeniable attraction and sizzling chemistry between them, as well as their inner conflicts, were palpable from the start. I also liked the supporting characters, and the banter and interactions between the band of Brothers, especially Axel’s sarcasm, made me laugh again and again.
After many years, she is reunited with her older brother Blake, but cannot bring herself to tell him the truth about her past. One night, she finds herself in the middle of a wooded area near Blake's mansion with no memory, a bloody knife in her hand and a dead man on the ground. Ryker Kincaid immediately agrees to take on her case. Ryker is a well-known defence lawyer who has sworn to represent only innocent clients, but he has been attracted to Faith since they first met, and even though all the evidence points to her guilt, he wants to save her from prison. It turns out that the victim was her neighbor from her teenage years and the son of a prominent judge who stalked her for years. Proving Faith's innocence is becoming increasingly difficult due to her memory loss and omissions, and her opponents are powerful and ruthless, not shying away from corruption, manipulation, intimidation and blackmail. Despite his doubts, Ryker is willing to risk everything for the woman he loves and fight for justice, even though Faith is not open with him and does not know herself whether she is guilty or not...
I recommend this gritty romantic suspense to anyone who enjoys morally gray protagonists, emotional rollercoaster rides, action, mystery, danger, humor and heat, and I’m already looking forward to the story of Knox and Harper.
Thank you Kathy Lockheart and Valentine Press for the ARC of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and left voluntarily.
Wow, wow, wow, WOW! Kathy Lockheart had done it AGAIN!!! I was completely speechless every time I finished reading her books, and this one was no exception. Doubt featured Ryker and Faith's story, a slightly forbidden lawyer/client relationship, and laced with so much depth regarding Faith's troublesome upbringing. After surviving so many foster homes throughout her entire childhood, Faith undoubtedly had some personal demons to fight against. There were countless heartbreaking moments and things no kid should've witnessed, gruesome torments no child should've endured, and horrifying assaults no little girl should've known existing...all of which made up Faith's background story and inevitably shaped her into who she was today, whether she liked it or not.
Then there was a mysterious yet impending murder case somehow Faith was involved in, to which she couldn't recall anything related, further complicating her already messed up life. Even with the help of a defense attorney, Ryker, the only man Faith ever trusted and loved, they weren't getting anywhere close to solving the mystery. Needless to say, the romance suspense and sexual tension between Ryker and Faith was killing me but the ending was so worth the torture. Better yet, let's not forget how incredibly supportive and hilarious the Sinners and Saints group was, including Blake the ER doctor, Jace the billionaire entrepreneur, Axel the happy-go-lucky businessman, and Knox the forever-present-despite-being-locked-up-in-jail protector. I absolutely adored the camaraderie these guys formed and how they extended the protection to all those they loved and cared. That was the kind of tight-knit found family I yearned for.
Anyways, even though the ending felt a teeny, tiny bit rushed considering how much time Ryker had tried to find evidence for the murder case and convince himself he shouldn't have doubt about who Faith truly was, with all the insanely unexpected twists coming afterwards, I'd say this book was yet another masterpiece from Kathy. What's more, there was a nice and smooth foreshadowing for the next and last installment to this series, Trust, which would finally be Knox and Harper's journey that I'd been dying to read for a very long time!
All in all, please go check out this entire series and start binging reading it! Each book in the Sinners and Saints had been an absolute delight to devour and I was certain you'd love it as much as I did. :D
***Massive thanks to the author for generously providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.***
DOUBT is the fourth instalment in Kathy Lockheart’s contemporary, adult SINNERS & SAINTS, erotic, romantic suspense series . This is attorney Ryker Kincaid, and thirty three year old, Faith Morrison’s story line. DOUBT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there WILL BE triggers for more sensitive readers.
SOME BACKGROUND: The Sinners and Saints is a tight knit group formed by childhood and college friends, each with a speciality and a darkness that is required to save and protect the people they love. : Ryker, Blake, Axel, Jace and Knox.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Faith and Ryker) DOUBT follows in the wake of the arrest of our story line heroine. Days earlier, an injured Faith woke up in the forest with a dead man laying beside. With no memory of what had happened, Faith goes in search of her brother’s best friend, attorney Ryker Kincaid, in the hopes of discovering what happened and why. Arrested for the murder, Faith finds herself the target of the public, law enforcement and the criminal courts, but the past refuses to let go, and our heroine is struggling without hope or trust.

Faith has fallen in love with her brother’s best friend but as her lawyer, Ryker is struggling between personal and professional as the evidence begins to mount. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is another large ensemble cast of colorful, familiar and determined secondary and supporting including the return of Blake, Axel, Jace and Knox. We are introduced to nurse Harper, powerful Judge Kearns, and questionable DA Bennett Wolfe.
DOUBT is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, obsession and madness, power and control, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The character driven premises is dramatic and intriguing; the romance is seductive; the characters are desperate, charismatic and dynamic.
I feel so deprived ! The worst is it’s by my own hand !?
This is book 4 in the series and while I haven’t read the previous books my heart is still ripped into shred yet it’s full and I just know that’ll make sense to my fellow bibliophiles ! Fear not l’ll be remedying it as soon as I’m done here though 📚💕🔥my finger are itching to one click 😉💕📚
There were times I didn’t think I could finish this book because of all that Faith had been through especially as a child and I was sobbing so hard a few times that I had my family concerned 🙈😂(now they’re used me and my emotions when I read because I really love my books and characters )
Faith and Blake lost their parents as young children and ended up in foster care and when they were deprecated Faith’s nightmare just got darker because the foster father was brutal , cruel, abusive and evil incarnated when Blake finds out he kills hon and faith witnessed it and I get Blake’s heart but I could help but break for them 💔 faith foster home hops and she’s neglected and abused and it makes my sick to my stomach if how the system failed them especially faith send the scars of her childhood follow her into adulthood and nobody can blame her but despite that she rises from the ashes , find a job , buy a home and help others like her , she reconnects with her brother and is brought into the the saints family and at a stage it felt like she was settling in emotionally to herself if that makes sense despite running away you could sense she wanted to let it all go with Ryker and then it all goes wonky when she wakes up in the woods , bloodied , knife in hand and absolutely no memory of what’s happened 😳🙈💔 and she goes to the man she feels safest with …. Ryker
Ryker is a criminal defend lawyer with ghosts of his that haunt him but he’s a good man and he recently started his own firm but with a difference , he only defends those he believes are innocent 😇 and when Faith comes to him he can’t turn her away and things really don’t look good for her but he knows she couldn’t have killed someone in cold blood and the fight is on not just to protect her but to love her and get her to live herself and they’ve also got corrupt and dishonest prosecutors to deal with so things really did look grim at a stage and keys not forget she’s the client and he’s her attorney so lines are seriously blurry but good will always prevail !
This is one of those reads that chew your heart spits it out , does it again and then mends it together again and I’ll be rereading it again after I’ve read the previous books and yes I took a recovery day where I just moped around and copious amounts of comfort food 😂
I love that he got to know her from constantly watching her, cataloging details, learning her expressions, and so on. He knew that she was hiding a lot and steering away from showing her weakness and snippets of her past. He was always attuned to her, close, understanding, a shield, a protector, a defender. He chose her despite the potential fall of his career and reputation. “Ryker’s stare pulled at something deep in my chest. The part of me that had learned to make myself small, invisible. But under his gaze, I felt seen in a way that terrified and thrilled me. He wasn’t just looking; he was studying me with the kind of reverence I’d only read about, like he was memorizing the curve of my smile, the way my hands moved, storing each detail somewhere safe inside him as though I were art in a museum”
She let him see parts of her that no one has before. Let him pass the walls guarding her heart. Only him. And he was there capturing every little thing about her. She leaned on him and he evidently didn’t disappoint. A real anchor. He was the one who stood by her while he faced the storm for her, and was the one who made her believe she’s someone worth fighting for. “I had never felt so loved in my entire life. Ryker saw me—really saw me—better than anyone ever had. The way his eyes tracked my every movement, how his breath caught when I smiled, the careful attention he paid to the smallest shifts in my mood. He studied me like I was his favorite book, one he’d never tire of reading.”
I loved Faith so much. She has a kind heart and a sweet soul despite the calamities she faced. The forest scene with the dog was raw and full of pain and meaning.
I loved it when he went lethal when her manager touched her, sent her home with the excuse that he had a meeting, and went right into the bar to avenge her.
“She became the person I admire most in this world.”
“His hand came up, impossibly gentle for someone who’d just rearranged another man’s face, and brushed a strand of hair behind my ear. The contrast made my heart stutter. “Faith, I would tear apart anyone who tried to hurt you. Not because you need me to, but because the thought of someone causing you pain makes me see red.”
“My whole life had felt like a series of trials. But Ryker had just won the trial for my heart.”
A leap of faith, one little step to letting people in and trusting them is sometimes the hardest thing to do and never was it more evident than the story of Ryker and Faith (ironic I know). This story starts off with the shock factor murder that seems like a made for TV movie moment, and the suspense, with all the twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat. Ryker and Faith have chemistry, that’s evident right from the start and their connection seemed to have developed in the past. He’s one of her brothers best friend, with Ryker’s sister being married to Faith’s brother. The spice level between them is low, (2/5) and the majority of it done in flashbacks, but the support they have for each is the true sticking point in the relationship. Both Faith and Ryker have been burned by their pasts, she from the struggles growing up in foster care, which is amazingly handled, and Ryker as a defense attorney who realized that not all clients tell the truth. The realistic portrayal of the struggles for both was spot on, but have no fear, as this book is not all doom and gloom. There is also a lot of levity, especially given the murder angle. My favorite is the scenes with Rainbow the dog. Yes, his role is nonverbal but his actions speak volumes. My only gripe, and it’s a big one, is the conflict of interest in defending (legally speaking )your partner, which could have made for a bad ending for both parties, but the fact that the lawyer times were strictly business times (thoughts not withstanding), helped. This is part of a series involving the found family this band of brothers created. Not having read any of the previous books I still found it easy to follow along, and the supporting characters have me interested in seeing what happens in the next book. I received an advance review of this book from Valentine PR and I am voluntarily leaving this review.
The fourth instalment in the Saints & Sinners series raises the stakes as Chicago attorney Ryker Kincaid faces his toughest case yet. When his best friend’s sister, Faith Morrison, is found standing over a body with the murder weapon in her hand and no memory of what happened, the evidence seems overwhelmingly stacked against her. Despite it looking like an open-and-shut case, Ryker is determined to uncover the truth and prove her innocence.
Readers of the earlier books will already be aware of the lingering undercurrent of tension between Ryker and Faith. A connection has always simmered in the background, held back by loyalty, timing, and the psychological trauma of Faith’s childhood. After losing her parents and being separated from her brother, she had endured years of hardship and abuse in foster care, leaving her with deep emotional scars and a lingering sense of unworthiness. Even after reconnecting with her brother, she struggles to believe she deserves someone like Ryker after what she has done to survive, pushing him away whenever she feels him getting too close. For Ryker, however, learning what she has survived only strengthens his feelings, his admiration and respect for her innate strength and the life she has built. But, before anything can truly develop between them, he must first clear her name if they are to build any kind of a future.
With Doubt, Kathy Lockheart delivers another gripping and emotionally charged story. The overall plot is fast-paced and absorbing, blending courtroom drama, suspense, and a slow-burn romance that’ll keep you absorbed from start to finish. The tension builds steadily throughout, balanced with well-timed moments of humour threaded throughout, often involving the sharp, playful banter between Ryker and his close-knit group of friends who have become a family in their own right all of which makes for a compelling and tightly woven read and a fabulous addition to the series.
Doubt (Sinners and Saints #4) by Kathy Lockheart is one of the most emotionally complex and psychologically layered books in the Sinners and Saints series. It goes into the darker corners of the human mind guilt, fear, trauma, and the desperate need for connection and builds a romance that feels fragile, dangerous, and deeply earned. Faith is a survivor of severe trauma. She’s rebuilding her life in small, fragile pieces. Ryker is a renowned defence attorney, but he’s also Faith’s brother’s best friend. Faith and Ryker are no strangers to each other, but Faith has only recently moved back into the town where her brother Blake and his best friends live.
When Faith finds herself in a forest, covered in blood, holding a bloody knife and a man dead by her feet, she runs and bursts into her brother’s mansion, whilst he is playing cards with his friends. She has no memory of what happened in those woods and is charged with murder. Ryker immediately steps up to be her defence attorney, but he needs Faith to trust him and tell him every dark secret from her past.
Faith and Ryker have an electric connection, one which burns you from the start. But cue the brother’s best friend, forbidden romance, the mistrust, the traumatic past and you get a journey which is psychological and raw. It’s a slow burn unravelling of two people whose trust has been broken before, where fear that secrets and past actions will drive them apart and a villain wants to destroy them both.
Faith and Ryker’s journey is a raw, intimate, emotionally charged romantic suspense that digs deep into trauma, trust, the terrifying vulnerability of letting someone in and mutual doubt is the emotional core of the book. It’s beautifully written, deeply human, and one of the strongest emotional arcs in the series. I cannot wait for Knox and Harpers book.
This book was such a wild ride! I laughed out loud, teared up more than once, and the suspense had me reading way past bedtime.
Axel is such a fun, completely off-the-wall character. The Band of Brothers group chat adds so much humour and heart, and honestly, Rainbow the “ugly” rescue dog ,completely stole scenes. The way he instantly decides Axel is his person is both hilarious and adorable.
Faith’s story is heartbreaking. She’s been in the foster system since she was five and has spent her adult life trying to build something better. But everything spirals when she wakes up in a dark forest, covered in blood, a dagger in her hand, a head wound, and no memory of what happened. Knowing she needs help, she runs straight to the only lawyer she trusts: Ryker.
The scene where she bursts into the building, covered in blood and holding a knife, is unforgettable. The shock, the tension, the instant shift as Ryker goes into full lawyer mode, it hooks you immediately
From the moment Ryker sees Faith, the chemistry is undeniable. Their connection is intense and messy in the best way. The push and pull between them is constant, attraction, fear, secrets, and the stakes of a murder charge hanging over everything. And yes… that elevator scene? 🔥
The suspense element is strong throughout. Missing surveillance footage, media leaks, a slimy DA chasing headlines, and the shocking twist that the victim is a judge’s son who had been stalking Faith for years, the tension never lets up. Ryker is determined to prove her innocence, but Faith’s secrets and reluctance to fully open up make everything more complicated.
Add in an overprotective brother, buried trauma, and a past that refuses to stay buried, and you get an emotional, gripping story that balances romance and suspense beautifully.
This book has humour, heart, steam, and edge-of-your-seat moments. I genuinely couldn’t put it down.
Highly recommend — just be sure to check trigger warnings before diving in.
Doubt by Kathy Lockheart What its About: I killed a man. That’s what they charged me with after finding me in the woods with a bloody knife, a dead body, and no memory of how I got there. The case was over before it began…until Ryker Kincaid stepped in. Chicago’s most ruthless defense attorney. My brother’s best friend. The only man I ever loved. He shouldn’t touch me. Shouldn’t move me into his penthouse. Shouldn’t look at me like I’m something worth saving. But he does. Ryker believes I’m innocent, and he’s risking everything to prove it. His career. His reputation. His heart. The price he demands is the truth. Every secret. Every dark corner of my past. But I learned a long time ago that honesty makes people leave. I survived them all walking away. I won’t survive losing Ryker. So when the truth finally surfaces, there’s only one question Will Ryker choose to stay…or will I lose the only man who ever made me believe I was worth loving? My Thoughts: 4/5. This series is honestly becoming one of my favorites one book at a time. This book put me through a Rollercoaster of feelings/reactions including anxiety, swooning over Ryker (actually all of the Sinners and Saints men), and laughter. A couple of times through the plot i was so nervous how things were going to go and I was doubting Faith right along with Ryker. I love the balance the author provides with nailbiting scenes, spice and comedic relief. She knows how to write books to keep me hooked!
Spice rating: 🌶🌶🌶. Ryker and Faith's chemistry is off the charts. The tension when they were trying to avoid each other in a relationship was almost unbearable but when they finally gave in things were HOT.
Next in Series: Trust- TBA
Thank you so much for this ARC opportunity! All of these thoughts and opinions are my own!
Whenever the story is told from Ryker’s perspective, you cannot deny the intensity of his feelings for Faith. Everything he does is for her, and that alone was enough to keep me turning pages. There’s so much more happening beneath the surface, and every chapter pulls you in deeper without giving anything away too soon.
Faith has never had anyone in her life who truly stayed or genuinely cared for her, and because of that, she doesn’t want to pull anyone into her chaos. I loved how she tried to remain humble and protect others, even when she deserved protection herself. And honestly, how could she not feel Ryker’s protectiveness? That man absolutely radiated it.
The trials and trauma Faith endured as a child were heartbreaking. I especially loved watching the growing relationship between her and Blake. The number of times he showed concern for his sister added up quickly, and every moment of it made me smile.
Axel completely stole the show for me. His comments in the group chats had me cracking up, especially when it came to the whisk. Trust me, when you get there, you’ll understand. Even Jace had a few one-liners that genuinely made me giggle.
This book delivered so many emotions at once: hope that the case would be solved, excitement over Ryker being completely head over heels, relief that Faith was no longer alone, and anger toward those who abused their power against her and her case. It was an emotional, engaging read that kept me fully invested. I received this book as an ARC and am leaving this review voluntarily.
Maybe I'm making the biggest mistake of my career. But I'm not walking away to find out.
A survival story! Faith is a warrior! I cried through so much of this book. Faith’s story is heartbreaking, from her childhood in the foster system to "committing" a murder with no memory of what happened, and running to the only man she ever loved: Ryker, her brother’s best friend and the only lawyer ruthless enough to fight for her and risk everything to prove her innocence. Their emotional journey, the secrets, the trust issues, and Ryker’s fierce determination to protect her brought tears to my eyes (for real). This story is so emotional, so emotional. I can’t say that enough. He risked everything for her, his career, his reputation, his friendship (with her brother) and his heart, and watching him choose Faith again and again, even when the truth threatened to tear them apart, was both devastating and beautiful. Faith’s fear of abandonment, her quiet strength, and the way she slowly learns to trust that he won’t leave made their love story feel raw, hard-won, and deeply emotional. And amid all that pain, there were moments that made me smile: Axel being unexpectedly hilarious, Blake in full grumpy-protective-brother mode, and the entire group coming together to defend Faith and prove her innocence against all odds. I loved the found-family feel, Rainbow, the weird-looking little dog Faith rescued, and the way Faith kept fighting for the foster kids she helps so they won’t have to face the same lonely future she did. Emotional, intense, and full of heart, this story truly made Ryker and Faith unforgettable. Can't wait for Knox story and his overdue HEA... Love you, Kathy!!!
Until the blade in my hand dropped to the ground with a sickening clank. His eyes snapped to the knife. Then back to my face. The horror in his expression shifted into something else. Something that looked almost like devastation. Something that looked like a man watching his worst nightmare come to life. “I need a lawyer.” ▬▬▬▬✖︎✖︎✖︎▬▬▬▬
DOUBT SINNERS AND SAINTS BOOK FOUR BY kathy lockheart ▬▬▬✖︎▬▬▬
Whew! Kathy has to know she blew this one out!!! Ryker & Faith - 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘!
The flat out tension and suspense bonding within this plot was perfect. Our characters are exactly what we needed. And hello to the return of my favorite group chat. 🔥
• Harper, I see you girl. 👀
•Knox, we are all feeling you. Cannot wait on your story. 👀
•The relationship between Faith and her circle is very special.
•As a former foster kid- Faith’s story kicked me in the gut, but there’s no doubt it rang true. It’s not gratuitous nor did it seem unauthentic. Big kudos for that. And, I’ll leave that there before falling down a rabbit hole.
•Our main men were all present and on point. Small tidbit: would have liked to have seen more active stuff from our cast of female characters but that’s a small ‘wish’ on my part It doesn’t affect my view on this novel.
A morally grey, hot AF lawyer who will burn the world down just for you? Guilty or innocent — he doesn’t care, he just wants you. Yessss please! 🥵🥵🥵 I’ve also come to realize that any MMC named Ryker is immediately going to be a catch.
Ryker and Faith have quickly become one of my favorite couples. They are so different and yet fit so well together. Faith has been through hell and back; and yet, still chooses to see the good in everyone. She’s strong and independent. Ryker lives and plays by the rules, his type A personality strong — until he met Faith and she pulled the rug right out from under him. Their connection was insta-love but in a cute way. Flirty glances from across the room, purposely brushing by each other when moving across the room.
This is my second Kathy Lockheart book and it did not disappoint. Kathy’s writing is always so fun, suspenseful and easy to get lost in. Her characters are relatable and lovable. Doubt is book 4 in the Sinners and Saints series. These books are interconnected standalones and one of my go-to series!
Doubt by Kathy Lockheart is out now! A brother’s best friend romance featuring a grumpy, morally gray defense attorney that is a definite must-read!

Karma comes around for Blake. Blake dates and marries Ryker's sister Tessa in Book 1; ignoring the rule set years ago to never date his sister.; now it's time to turn the tables when Ryker falls for Blake's sister Faith(of course, against Blake's wishes)! It's funny how Blake is so mad at Ryker while totally ignoring that Blake ignored all of Ryker's demands about not dating his sister. Ryker and Faith have been circling each other and hooked up once at Blake & Tessa's wedding, but the night Faith runs into the boy's mansion covered in blood carrying a blood soaked knife, Ryker is the lawyer (and man) for her! Throughout the novel Ryker and Faith both try to fight their feelings for each other due to ethical complications, brotherly respect, and low self-esteem, but as Faith's secrets are revealed can morally gray Ryker accept the things she's done...or has she crossed the line too far? Did Faith kill her stalker and use amnesia as a convenient excuse or is she being set-up to take the fall in a cover-up. Can Ryker accept all Faith has done in her past and accept these feelings that he has never felt before? Or will doubt cause Faith to end up in prison? ANd speaking of prison; I can't wait for the final book, Knox and Harper! I want to know his story and give him his HEA! My rating system: 1 Star: DNF 2 Star: Struggled but did finish 3 Star: Glad I read it, but probably won’t read again 4 Star: Would read again and recommend to a friend 5 Star: I still think about this book and need the next one immediately. Recommend profusely and need to one at least one physical copy.
