It was just supposed to be one night. Just a good puck to forget all about the stress of her upcoming hockey game…
Charlie Lajoie is no stranger to hard work. One of the best players in the PWHL for the Toronto Succubi and the daughter of one of the best hockey players in the world, there’s a lot of pressure for her to succeed on Team Canada in the Milan Winter Games.
When Olive Miller is unceremoniously dumped by her girlfriend before their big Italy vacation, she decides to go on it alone to finally get the long-awaited break from work she so desperately needs.
A night of rest and relaxation is what both women need, and who better to turn to than a fellow Torontonian in Italy? What starts as one night to release some stress quickly turns into more as Charlie can’t help but fall for Olive. But can their whirlwind fling go from a good puck to lasting an entire season?
From cozy sapphic author Rochelle Wolf comes a new hockey romance full of high heat and low stakes.

A perfect winter novella, this cute Olympic themed tale is heavy on the spice. If you like the Olympics and will be watching the games in a few short weeks then this is a great appetizer before they start.
Charlie plays for the Canadian women's hockey team. Olive is on vacation in Italy trying to get over an abrupt breakup.
Each FMC is working through their own issues regarding boundaries and relationships. Although, their chemistry is off the charts. Will they trust the attraction or will they fall into old habits. Can you build a solid relationship based on sexual compatibility? Certainly doesn't hurt to try😉 I can't wait to read the other books in this sports series.
A Good Puck by Rochelle Wolf is a romping good time in Milan. Two Canadians meet by chance in Italy. Charlie is a hockey player in town for the Olympics, and Olive is on the vacation she was supposed to be taking with her girlfriend. Said girlfriend broke up with her just before the trip, but her sister convinced her to go anyway. The two hit it off immediately and spend a steamy night together. They both decide to continue seeing one another while they are in Milan. As they get to know each other, they consider the idea of continuing the relationship when they return to Toronto. There are several spicy scenes and some sweet bonding moments. Gender identity and career paths are discussed as they grow closer. Both main characters have distinct, likable personalities, making them easy to root for. I enjoyed this short, sweet, and spicy sports-themed sapphic romance. It is one of my favorites by Wolf. I am giving it 3.75 stars, rounded up. #Milan #Italy #Toronto #Canada #oppositesattract #vacationromance #onenighttoforever #Olympics #hockey #mascfemme #nonbinaryrep #strapscenes #vibescenes #facesitting #steamy #spicy #sweet #genderexploration #HEA #epilogue I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest opinion.
When Rochelle Wolf says high spice, they mean HIGH SPICE 😌
This was such a great novella with a sapphic romance AND a gender awakening. If you love hockey, and you want a sapphic romance with a nonbinary MC, definitely have this on your list for January!!
Also absolutely loved that it’s set at the 2026 Winter Olympics. I’m SO excited for Olympic hockey again, especially the women’s hockey 🙂↕️
UGH I LOVE SAPPHIC ROMANCES!!!! ESPECIALLY SAPPHIC HOCKEY ROMANCES!!!! THIS WAS SO GOOD!!! for a novella so short, the development of olive and charlie as characters and their relationship was soo well done. i appreciated the pacing of the story and the relationship, i appreciated olive and charlie’s realizations about themselves as individuals and who they have been in past relationships so they can grow, and i appreciated the sweet and supportive conversations about gender.
this book is just so fun and sweet and smutty, i guarantee you’ll giggle and twirl your hair the entire time. thank you so much to the author for allowing me to have an arc!!
I had a great time reading this fairly short novel set in Milan during the upcoming Olympics, especially since they have a hometown connection for me, as both characters reside in Toronto when they aren't jetting off to Milan for vacation or the Olympics! I enjoyed their meet-cute and the way their relationship progressed from vacation fling...
I did struggle with the fact that Olive was in Milan for a 'regular' vacation during the Olympics and I would have liked to see more about Charlie's revelations, but as a quick and sporty read, this definitely put me in the mood to watch more women's hockey at the Olympics! I can't wait to see what's up next for this multi-author series!
first off, thank you very much to the author for extending an ARC of this book! In exchange for the ARC, this is my honest review.
A Good Puck is a sweet and sexy read featuring a woman who's on the rebound after a breakup and a hockey player on a journey of going after what they want and who they truly are.
Overall, the book is fun, smart and warm. However, I struggled with with it at times. The journeys the characters go through are sometimes inconsistent and contradictory, which makes the book feel a little incoherent at times.
Characters feel like they are going in one direction, only for their journeys to be switched up at the last minute.
To that point, while I am a huge fan of the way the couple end the book (a sweet but not rushed ending), the journey taken by the characters feel a little obsolete if things were going to end that way.
I did very much enjoy the breeziness of the book, so let me explore what i enjoyed.
The characters have great chemistry and it's clear from the get-go that they're a great pairing. The spice is pretty well done! When the author says, "high spice", they definitely meant it!
the side characters were great too! I enjoyed the world that was built with these characters. and the pacing was also quite well done too!
overall, I did enjoy it. I just wished some parts had been more articulate and there was a clear common thread for characters. but 3/5 for a fun, sexy and warm romance!
When in the midst of Heated Rivalry psychosis, it’s ideal to continue with as much queer hockey romance as possible. Thanks to Olive and Charlie, I was able to continue my obsession with a sapphic hockey romance, and I was rewarded with the winter extension of femme top fall.
Rochelle Wolff promises low stakes, but that doesn’t mean there’s not depth here. Olive and Charlie both have so much heart—Olive is constantly undervalued for hers, while Charlie rarely lets anyone see theirs. Together, they bring out the best in one another and create a safe space during a whirlwind romance in a foreign country, capping off their time with a gender awakening and opening the door to a future relationship that we luckily see on the page in the epilogue.
A Good Puck—come for the strap, stay for the swoon.
Content Warnings: gender dysphoria, ending of relationship, on-screen sexual activities
Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. As always, my thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
Rating: 4.5/5, rounded up
This was so cute and spicy! I was in between squealing and fanning myself with every new chapter. This isn't going to give you a detailed insider's look into women's hockey culture, but it's definitely going to give you a sweet, compelling story about finding yourself when you least expect it.
I loved the change up between the POVs and seeing how Charlie and Olive each dealt with their inner emotions and feelings towards themselves and each other. There was a lot of great communication, especially in terms of consent during the spicy scenes, that led to a really enjoyable and thoughtful read. Which doesn't typically seem like the case when you're reading this type of novel.
I liked Charlie's POV better than Olive's as Charlie explored what it meant to be who they are, how "luck" plays into the opportunities you are provided, and what it means to be passionate and fully invested in something. I really liked her growth throughout and a lot of care and heart was put into Charlie's story. Olive is still a great character and I appreciated her taking a chance on herself and love by being with Charlie and going on a solo trip to Italy. Together, they are perfect for balancing one another out.
Because this is a novella, I don't think we got as much emotional pay-off as I would have liked from the conversation about gender exploration (Charlie) and being emotionally closed off (Olive). It still was great to have on-page and be so embraced by themselves and each other. The support they gave one another was very touching and I really appreciated seeing softness within this romance.
I also wanted so much more from the scene where .
However, the length was perfect for what felt like a whirlwind romance and getaway, leading to me already planning on a reread once the Team Canada women's team wins gold at the Olympics this year.
This was a sweet, enjoyable story about two people finding themselves and each other as they navigate big stressors that lead them to come together.
Pick this one up on January 26, 2026! (Please) (Then also watch the Olympics) (And the PWHL)
Favourite Quote: “The fact that she even knows what the PWHL is means she’s gay,” Blake pointed out matter-of-factly.
I was honored to be an ARC reader for this novella and I have nothing but praise for this one.
I've been reading Wolf novellas since their debut with "Act Two." In that ARC review specifically I recall writing something along the lines of, "I can't wait to follow this author and see how they grow." That review came to mind for me as I was reading this one, because I felt like I was seeing Wolf's hard work and growth shine through the pages in a whole new light. Through the second-chances, the friend-to-lover, the gender-discoveries, and now to sports romance, there is one thing that has been consistently growing stronger and stronger: Mx. Wolf's ability to bring the reader into the chemistry of the moment. And "A Good Puck" is the strongest writing yet.
Mx. Wolf's novellas are helping me heal my relationship with the romance genre in general. (Y'know, my internal misogyny "I'm-not-like-other-girls" combined with my attachment wounds, combined into a big "reading other people kissing makes me feel both amazing and terrible" sensation.) I can solidly say with certainty that this is the first time I have read a romance novella - and a spicy one at that - and been not only completely comfortable, but excited and focused. I didn't need "a more important plot" to distract me from my discomfort or to "justify" the characters' affections for each other. I was completely content - more than content, really - to read about these two individuals growing their affection and libido for each other.
The spice? You'll melt. The characters? You'll want to coddle. The setting? Just exciting enough. But what's the most important and exciting for me? Mx. Wolf's narrative voice is stronger than ever. No hesitations, no lack of belief in themselves as a storyteller, no holding back.
(Okay, only one nitpick. I would have loved for Olive to chew out her ex a little more. But that's literally my only nitpick.)
Do not skip this novella if you're looking for good heartwarming feelings with beautiful sensuality. Sometimes, reading about a relationship going right in exceptional circumstances is such a healing thing.
A Good Puck is a spicy sapphic hockey romance novella where Charlie Lajoie, a star player for the Toronto Succubi striving to make Team Canada for the Milan Winter Games, has one night off the ice that leads her straight into the arms of Olive Miller, a woman newly single and craving a break from her own stresses. What begins as a carefree rendezvous in Italy quickly deepens into something that complicates both women’s expectations, blending sweet flirtation with the thrill of falling for someone unexpected against a backdrop of shared hometown roots and athletic ambition. The story is part of the Love On The Podium queer romance series and offers a cozy, low-stakes yet emotionally engaging read.
I liked how naturally the chemistry between Charlie and Olive arose, making me care about their tentative steps toward something real beyond one night, and how their individual pressures (family, performance expectations, self-discovery) gave emotional weight to their connection. While it leans short and breezy, the warmth and tender exploration of attraction and vulnerability left me smiling long after the final page.
Rating: 4 out of 5 Because it balances heartfelt sapphic romance with tender character moments in a delightfully intimate hockey setting.
ARC Review - I received this book for free from the author, and this review is genuine.
Overall, I did enjoy A Good Puck, it was an easy, cosy novella. It had some issues, but ultimately I did enjoy it.
SPOILERS AHEAD
This was a good story if you like fluffy, low-stakes romances. The overall story was fun, easy, and enjoyable. I found it hard to connect with either Olive or Charlie, though, and didn't really find myself invested at all. I felt like I knew by the 10% mark (picking a random percentage, but it was early) exactly how everything would play out. There were no twists, it was a very straightforward read. Not saying it's a bad thing, just wasn't my kind of thing.
That being said, my biggest issues with the book didn't come from the story, the characters, none of that. The book suffers from a lack of editing. I am one of those people that finds errors in books to be very distracting, as it completely ruins the immersion for me. There were some grammatical issues here and there, but the big problem was switching perspectives. There were examples of mid-sentence changes from third person to first person. One example I wrote down was, "She immediately felt proud of myself..." It just threw me off really badly, and I know it happens a few times at least.
I really enjoyed Olive’s adventure around Milan while Charlie was off doing athlete things - gave me a chance to reminisce over my own Milan adventures!
I always really enjoy getting to know the characters in Rochelle Wolf’s stories. We get to see so many different sides to each character in such a short space! This book also included questioning of gender identity - starting with the subtle things, like with the use of different pronouns, to an outright conversation about gender, which I found fascinating and just a really good example of a respectful conversation. I went in thinking this will be a fun book - which it is!! - but it was also a really great learning opportunity and thought provoking.
Also, there’s a character (Charlie’s BFF Blake) who gets their own story in this series, A Gold Medal In Love (hockey x figure skating). So cool to see character crossovers, and I’m so intrigued by Blake - and they only came up a handful of times in this story!
💖 I’m really enjoying this series, each story really is special! I’m so grateful for the eARCs I have received, thank you to the authors!!
This was such an amazing read, I don't even know where to start. As expected, I fucking loved it. I knew I would, I'll love anything Rochelle writes. They're fucking amazing. But not only was the writing incredible, the characters were so easy to fall in love with and the storyline was exceptional.
It's no secret that I'm utterly obsessed with sapphic romances, so when I saw Rochelle was doing another one best believe I freaked out, and to top it off, it's SPORTS?? While I'm not the biggest hockey fan, I was excited when I saw that we were getting a sapphic hockey novella from the wonderful Rochelle. And if that wasn't good enough, it's a series by multiple authors. I'm two books in and i'm obsessed!!
Okay, we have to talk about how perfect Olive and Charlotte were together. Not only did they make perfect sense, they were exactly what the other needed. I think they were such a cute couple too, and I don't say that much, but they really were adorable. I will for sure be rereading this at some point. Such an amazing book, I cannot recommend it enough!!
A masc lesbian that is actually a softie loverperson? sign me up.
I'm obsessed with Charlie and Olive's interactions, their vulnerability and openness to communicate with each other even though awkwardness was so nice to read, and the spice is one of the best i've read.
A Good Puck is part of the Love On The Podium shared queer romance series, a series that's also written by queer writers inspired by different Olympic sports and I cannot recommend it enough!

Charlie Lajoie, a disciplined hockey star with a family legacy in the sport gunning for gold as the Captain of the Canadian Olympic hockey team. Olive Miller is an all-business Canadian woman who was supposed to be on an anniversary trip to Italy, but was dumped by her girlfriend the day before. Thankfully, her sister talks her into going on the trip anyway, and she meets Charlie in a bar, and they hit it off. This one-night stand feels like more to both characters, and they struggle to find their footing between enjoying the time they have and hoping for more. Which leads to lots of miscommunications as both try to wrestle with their feelings and not put pressure on the other. Especially since Charlie is competing in the Olympics and needs to keep their head in the games. But it seems this pull for a relationship with Olive also brings to light some of Charlie’s struggles with their identity. This book is dual POV, fast-paced, with a lot of heart and lots of spice and HEA. Heartwarming and a joy to read. I can't wait to read the others in the ‘Love on the Podium’ series!
A Good Puck is sweet and spicy novella that follows Olive, who takes a trip to Milan after a breakup and Charlie, a hockey player, playing for Team Canada in the Olympics. It starts with a one night stand and then progresses to more.
Charlie and Olive were very cute together. I did like them building each other up too with their insecurities and you can see how they help each other out and work well with each other. I also did enjoy Olive not being an athlete and not really knowing much about sports! They were also very hot together!
I did enjoy Charlie’s journey with their gender identity and Olive’s support of this too. It was something that was nice to read, especially with not having really any drama or angst with it.
I did have to have some suspension of disbelief for some of the hockey stuff but I didn’t find it take too much away from the book. I also did find myself wishing for more, and wish it was a bit longer to explore more of Olive and Charlie’s stories.
Overall a good sapphic hockey romance that is a very quick read!
A spicy, sporty Olympic romance that takes a somewhat anonymous one night stand to forever in a wonderful way. I loved both main characters in this book, and if you've read one of Rochelle's books before, you'll know why. They are full of heart, sincerity, and and they fumble over themselves in the cutest ways as they try to protect their hearts as well as the other person.
One other not foreign theme in her books is the exploration of gender identity. One of the characters does some exploration of their gender, with the assistance of the other, and in such a wonderful and supportive way. It is so wonderful to see such excellent representation of trans identities and especially of exploration in sapphic lit.
The spicy scenes were superb and as had me fanning myself of quite a few times throughout this book. So, if you are looking for a genuine, heartfelt, and spicy romance set against the backdrop of the upcoming Winter Games, pick up A Good Puck now!
This is the first story I have read by this author, and it was a cute novella set in the Winter Olympics timeframe.
The main characters meet at a bar and are attracted to one another immediately, but Charlie has no time for more than a fling, and Olive is just coming out of a breakup, so they agree to one night of fun and then back to reality.
But as their evening progressed and their attraction kept growing, they knew they wanted to see each other again. Olive attended one of Charlie’s Olympic hockey games and enjoyed seeing this side of her. While not really being into sports, Olive could still appreciate the skill and passion Charlie had for the game.
The more time they spent together, the more they realized they wanted to see where this relationship was going. It was worth the read if you are in the mood for a sweet, sexy read.
This was so good and the spice was excellent. It def hit different than lots of other sapphic spice I read (in a good way!).
Olive pulling out the strap right away, the first night? Boss move. Loveeee it. Olive is so confident — probably the most confident sapphic FMC I’ve read. Maybe bc she’s a femme top to Charlie’s softboi vibes that makes me love her so much, idk but I’m not mad ab it 💕
𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗟𝗟: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 𝗧𝗬𝗣𝗘: Interconnected Standalone 𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗦: Love on the Podium 𝗔𝗨𝗗𝗜𝗢𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞: n/a
4 stars. This was lovely. Low angst, sexy as hell, and there was some great gender identity discovery for Charlie. I really liked that part and how Olive made them feel safe enough to express and explore their identity. That was great to see. I loved both characters a lot, Charlie is a famous hockey player and meets Olive, they had great chemistry and while they both are feeling each other they’re both a bit timid about moving forward and I liked how this was all handled. There really is no type of angst or big drama just these two figuring out their feelings and I thoroughly enjoyed this. It’s short and steamy and a lot of fun.
*I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I mean this in the best possible way - I felt like I was reading really good fanfic when I read this novella. That's exactly what I want from novellas because it just focuses on the relationship with a bit of plot thrown in.
There are four open door scenes in this book, which considering its length is so impressive! And they all worked really well with the pacing.
If you're looking for a sapphic F/NB hockey romance that doesn't shy away from the spice, this is perfect. I think fans of Heated Rivalry will really enjoy it!
Also the Toronto Succubi > Sceptres. Rochelle, you are so real for giving them a better name.
**I received this book as an ARC and am leaving this review voluntarily**
A sexy wee story set during the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. Who wouldn’t root for two lovely Canadians to get together? I really enjoyed this book for the intense connection between the main characters and the patriotism of the author/characters. It was a joy to read. While I prefer my sapphic stories to be lesbian, it’s always nice to read something different and I can respect and appreciate the bisexual and non binary/trans representation this author offers in this story. I like that the gender identity aspect isn’t a huge deal, it’s acknowledged, appreciated and added to a wealth of other interesting things about the character. This is the second book I’ve read by this author and I’ll be honest, they’ve a fan in me. I’ll be picking up any book they release as soon as I can!
Thankful to the author for an ARC of this story which actually releases on my birthday - 01/26/26!
This story follows a professional female hockey player who is playing in the Olympics and a freshly broken up with woman who takes the dream couples vacation alone that her and her ex had planned.
Neither is sure they can commit, but neither can deny the unmistakable chemistry. Distractions and heartbreak are tough, but does the right person make everything worth it?
I absolutely love a sapphic sports romance and thought the author did such an amazing job at showing character growth for a short story.
This romance was short and sweet, and had a huge focus on sex, but I didn't mind it since it was so intimate and had good chemistry. I loved that the main leads' emotional connection grew through sex, and that they explored what they wanted in their lives as they learned more about themselves. However, the writing style was very confusing at times. In my opinion, it needed some more editing before being sent out as an ARC, because the pov kept changing from first person to third person, often in the same sentence or paragraph. Other than that, this was a decent romance book with high heat and low stakes. A huge thank you to the author Rochelle Wolf for this ARC!
A Good Puck is the second book in the Love On the Podium series. It’s a sapphic hockey romance, where one of our main characters, Charlie, is playing for the Canadian hockey team during the olympics and she meets newly dumped Olive in a bar one night.
Charlie has always had her full focus on hockey, scared that she wouldn’t be at her best if she had any distractions but Olive might just turn out to be the best possible distraction she could have. Their relationship happens hard and fast, and both Charlie and Olive are such likeable characters. They have their own reasons for wanting to slow things down but they’re both self aware enough to know neither of them will slow it down.
It’s incredibly sapphic, incredibly spicy, and such a nice read. I adored the relationship they built together and loved getting to know the characters. Rochelle really drops you into the story and makes you root for them, from Olive’s sweet understanding of who Charlie is to Charlie’s dedication and loyalty that she showcases throughout the story. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it if you’re looking for something, short, sapphic and spicy with a healthy dose of cuteness.
Fun easy read! Perfect for the upcoming Winter Olympics!
This was a fun read between two Canadians abroad. Olive has recently been broken up with and was supposed to go to Milan with their then girlfriend. Her sister convinces her to go anyways, where she meets Charlie, a pro hockey player, where they hit it off immediately. I don’t love the insta-love trope, I do think this was done super well, especially considering the timeline moves forward for the last couple chapters.
Getting ready for the Olympics ? Here’s a sapphic hockey romance for you 🌈
Thank you @rochellewolfauthor for the opportunity to read the ARC for A Good Puck, it was a blast !!
A good Puck is a sapphic hockey romance during the 2026 Winter Olympics when a Hockey player meets a woman that just broke up with her ex and they have a fun night together in Milan 👀
This is perfect for people who love queer romance, fast paced story and a guaranteed HEA 🫶🏻
I’m loving every book in this series so far and I hope you all get to enjoy it when it comes out ! 🌈
This was a quick love story that kept me reading. It took me a minute to figure out what was happening and how it all went together but I enjoyed the story as a whole once I figured it out. It included just enough spice to keep me going “oh my” but it was woven in the story so it didn’t feel out of place. The two main characters were both different but lovable in their own ways! I’m intrigued to see what might come next.
Thank you so much to the author for this ARC copy. I really enjoyed reading this story. I’ve been getting my fill of hockey romance lately and glad to add some sapphic stories to the mix.
Overall I felt this book was a cozy little smutty read. I liked the character conflict. One star off because I felt that parts of the book were a little clunky and maybe could have used some extra revision and there was a scene that felt entirely unneeded and out of place.
