Ghosts: The Unseen Population of Thailand

Rate this book
First-time visitors to Thailand will be intrigued to learn that their Thai hosts include both visible and invisible beings. The visible beings, like you and me, live in various types of dwellings that range in size depending on their social status. On the other hand, invisible beings—such as ghosts and divine spirits—also have their homes, which can be grand or modest. Some of these spirits reside in beautiful shelters, while others may live in simple dwellings along the roadside, beneath large trees, or within the trees themselves. I realized that many indigenous ghosts remained unknown to the outside world, particularly those that inhabit the rural areas of Thailand. Many of these spirits deserve to be highlighted, especially those revered by various ethnic groups, as some continue to play a vital role in their culture and practices. The book covers most types of regional ghosts that are unknown to people outside and, most importantly, the reasons for their belief in the existence of those ghosts.
