4 for story, 4.5 as Audiobook ❤️

A MMF forbidden romance with rockstars, ex-manager, brother's best-friend, second chances, hurt/comfort, trauma & healing, close proximity, 80's vibes, music in its heart & a love that stays.
I love poly romances so when I saw Claudia had 1 coming out, I knew I had to try as it's been so long since I read a book by her! I'm glad I got the #ALC ❤️.

It is duet style by 3 narrators which I can't resist 😂. Eddie's voice is so deep, it reverberates 😳. That brrr does make a few words hard to get but not very much. It's good he reads slow 👍. Barrett's voice is a bit hoarse but pretty good. Cleo's VA is good, clear, sharp & smooth! The pain in their voices made me almost tear up 😩. The writing style is lyrical, sometimes philosophical.

This is book 2 in series & I had worried as this starts in what feels like the middle of the story, but from what I've read of other reviews - it's not what I missed in book 1. There's a lot of characters, which I remember by vibes, they must be of book 1. But the story itself seems self-contained. The thing is, this is fundamentally about healing from abuse, learning to stay & rekindle the love that never died.

So the "action" part has happened already (or happens off page). We get minor backstories, but it's not enough for me sadly. I loved to see how B+E started, but I also wanna see how C fell in love & then left. This focuses on present, not much on past which is good - but I wanted more details. It would've helped me believe more in their 2nd chance. I'm glad I got audiobook as I may've gotten bored & sad with my curiousity of flashbacks not being sated, but I stayed as this story IS beautiful.

Eddie is serious, take charge, bossy. He deems himself the protector & fixer. But E also self-isolates & feels guilty due to responsibilities & regrets.
Barret is the rockstar, of fuckboy image but is a sweetheart, teasing, caring & feels deeply.
Cleo shined brightly but now is a shadow of herself by the extensive abuse she'd suffered (ugh, hate the guy). I loved to see C blossom again.

Years ago, E+B fell in love in secret... Then C came. It was wonderful but forbidden, broken by insecurities. Now in a cabin, hidden away from the stardom world, the trio have a chance to heal themselves & their love. I loved how E+B are so patient with C, plus how B pushes to repair B+E's relationship 1st in meantime!

It's lil slowburn but didn't feel too angsty to me. I'm happy to see how via therapy (great advices btw), they learn how to be whole & fit together. Heartache, touches, longing & give in. Staying. I loved the dynamics, how guys are rougher with eachother 😂 & yay Vers. But the love sparks ❤️, so hot together 🥵. I'm glad to see their individual relations & as a triad!

They live in a time where they've to be secret, sadly. Buy I'm glad they've got a found family where they can be themselves 🥹 & JUSTICE (I wish it was more violent lol). Omg, bros are so protective 😂. I read this as a standalone.

This was my first read by this author and I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I loved all the music references on the cover, in the title and the cover images.
However, I soon discovered that this is actually the second book in the Heartbreak Mixtapes series.

I was a little concerned at first, given that I hadn't read the first book in the series - but after a quick check, it seemed that this book focussed on a new set of characters - even though it was set in the same world.

This book certainly explores a few tough topics and we definitely dive in at the deep end with this relationship as we find Cleo recently rescued from an abusive relationship.

Now, I'm still a little unsure whether we meet Cleo in book 1 - she is the sister of the main character there - but having read that blurb, I feel that there may only have been a mention and so we really learn everything we need to know through this book as the chapters unfold.

I absolutely fell in love with these characters right from the off and the more the stories unfolded and intertwined, the more we discovered about each of their insecurities and vulnerabilities.
Each with their own worries, it was really beautiful to see how they opened up for each other, supported the others through their traumas and took strength from the relationship they were building.

I liked that the three had clearly formed a bond previously to this book and that for different reasons, this had fallen apart.
Getting to peek into the past really allowed this bond to blossom and not feel strange when they all connected in the ways that they did here.

This was my first MMF romance read and I loved the dynamics between the characters.
Seeing how each was different, how they were with each other separately and how they all came together as a threesome as well as seeing how those differences complimented the others and manifested within the relationship.

I loved the writing style, which had me immersed in the storyline and connecting with all the characters.
I'm sure to be catching up with this series and can't wait to see what book 3 brings.

This story was filled with so much emotion, angst and heartbreak. I felt like I was missing a big chunk of the backstory between the characters and plot. This made the book hard for me to get into. There was evident spice between the characters and when Cleo was ready all three of them come together in a relationship. I probably won’t continue the series it just was confusing to try keep up with. I almost DNF the book but forced myself to finish as my obligation to the author. The narrators were raw and it felt like I was living in the moments and memories with them. This was the only plus side to the book for me.

Lyrics Remain Unchanged is the second installment in the Heartbreak Mixtapes series by Claudia Burgoa, and while it can be read as a standalone, the emotional payoff is even richer if you read the series in order. This is a second-chance, why-choose romance rooted in forgiveness, healing, and learning how to love again after everything has gone wrong.

Set in the early 2000s, the story follows Cleo, Eddie, and Barret as they circle back to the wreckage of what they once had—something reckless, beautiful, and untouchable… until it wasn’t. Cleo left. This time we have a deeply emotional, forbidden and unconventional romance between Edgar “Eddie” Reznor, Barret Hetfield and Cleo Wilder. It is a MMF, best friends little sister, second chance romance. A stunning story about recovering from trauma, mending broken relationships, repairing heartbreak and facing the fears that have devastated them in the past. It is a complicated, raw, angst filled tale that will captivate you as you follow this threesome on their healing journey as they try to rebuild what they had and learn how to trust, love and live again. How did they become the way they are and how will it look by the end?

Eddie is a rich and influential businessman who solves problems. Barret is a musician and played in Dead Moth Parade with Roderick, Alex and Dexter. They met when Eddie used to manage the band and fell in love. Cleo is Roderick’s sister and the three used to be in a secret relationship until one day she disappeared without an explanation. Eddie and Barret didn’t understand why she left them and it led to them splitting up, leaving them both broken hearted. The story starts with a heartbreaking prologue from Eddie. He explains how much he still loves Barret and Cleo and wants them back in his life. Barret has a mysterious prologue which sets the scene for the upcoming events.

It’s two years since Cleo left and now she is back with the guys. She’s not the vibrant woman they used to know due to what she has been through. She’s a survivor of prolonged abuse by her fiancée and the experienced has greatly affected her, leaving her afraid and having nightmares.
They have managed to rescue her and in order to protect her they are on an island, hoping to keep her safe while they help her heal and bring her back to life.

I loved how the guys were working on their relationship, trying to fix what’s broken between them. How they are finding a new balance with Eddie relinquishing some of his control so Barret can love and protect him this time around. It’s slow and complicated because they need to be honest and stay sober. Could they change and become better versions of themselves. The author slowly reveals Eddie and Barret’s backstory which is emotional and sad. What they both went through and the realisation that they both had feelings for Cleo. What happened after she left and the effect it had on all of them. Claudia has created three complex characters who have an intense connection and the longing and desire between them pours off the pages.

They show such patience, understanding, compassion and respect towards her. They both love her but will their efforts be enough to help her. It was so sweet how Barret notices the small things and helps just by playing his guitar or just sitting with her. Cleo struggles to believe they still love her as she’s broken and has other issues to work through. She also has to deal with an over protective brother and needs to repair her friendship with her best friend Kit. Can the guys devise a plan to keep her safe and ensure her future.

My heart went out to them as they negotiated their new relationships and the guys forced themselves to proceed with caution. The two epilogues finish their story beautifully and I loved all the teasers about Dexter ready for his book Every Shattered Note, which is definitely going to be another emotional read.

I started reading this book because I was grabbed by the blurb. MMF books make my knees weak, my heart pound, and my oh my, I have to warn the hubster.

I quickly realised my mistake because this is the second book in a series and there’s way too much backstory for me to understand why the characters are in the situation they are in. So I paused, found book one, Not So Simple Lyrics, and read it. It didn’t give me much information about the relationship between Barret, Eddie and Cleo but I felt better having read it. I love tortured rockstars so it was a winner for me.

So back to The Lyrics Remain Unchanged. I wanted to love it. It had all the elements that I usually enjoy, but there’s a but. Plot holes galore. Did I miss another book that explains better about why Cleo ran from Barret and Eddie? Did I miss another book about how she ended up in the clutches of Dorian? If I didn’t (and I don’t think I did) then I honestly think it needed more explanation.

There’s some very, very strangely worded sentences. If you towel your hair and then fold it across your knee - the noun is the hair and the towel is the verb, so she folded her hair across her knee.

Repetition and repetition and repetition. The word taste appears 65 times. Yep he/she tastes of salt or they taste of him/her, they taste metallic.

There’s a prologue chapter - Barret being interviewed by the police, that just appears in one paragraph in the book. It felt like a waste of a prologue if it only warranted four sentences.

I really wanted to love it but I didn’t.

I challenge everyone experiencing not just this story, but this series to not feel it down to your bones! *fans self* Incredibly emotional and heartbreaking at times but above all else, hopeful.

There are very few “details” that I can give you about the storyline because every circumstance and turn should be experienced blind, but I can say the above, plus how incredible it has been to watch Claudia grow her talent as a writer in the last few years. Her storylines have depth and are deeply emotional on many levels. Sure, there have been times when they haven’t “hit me” right, but that’s how it goes with reading. It’s subjective and depending on where the reader is in life, a story will hit them differently. But in most cases (almost all if I’m being honest) Claudia has surpassed herself is all aspects of her writing and I am excited to be here for all of it.

She’s also incredibly talented at putting together performing teams that elevate her stories to new heights and vividly perform her stories almost to the point that you’re watching a movie, just in your head! That’s how I experienced Lyrics Remain Unchanged and it was an epic 10 hours! Jason Clarke, Lance West & Vivianne LaRue were perfectly matched and worked incredibly in sync with each other to bring this story to life duet-style.

I finished this book and WOW… I am still processing everything I just experienced. This was an absolute five-star read for me.

I received the ARC and ALC at the last minute and flew through it — making it to 80% in one night and finishing as soon as I could. This story completely consumed me from beginning to end.

This is book two in the Heartbreak Mixtapes series, and while I really loved (Not So) Simple Lyrics, this one felt even more emotionally intense and immersive. The angst, the tension, the chemistry… every moment felt heightened, raw, and impossible to look away from.

Listening while reading took the experience to a whole other level. The audio added so much depth and emotion — it made every scene hit harder and every connection feel more powerful.

This was also my first MMF / why-choose romance, and I completely understand the hype now. The emotional complexity, the push and pull between the characters, the vulnerability, the passion — it was all handled beautifully. I was fully invested in every relationship and every outcome.

With the rockstar setting, forbidden elements, forced proximity, and threads of romantic suspense woven throughout, the story kept me hooked the entire time. I felt everything — stress, anticipation, tenderness, heat, and that constant emotional ache that makes a story unforgettable.

And the ending… completely satisfying and worth every moment of tension that came before it.

I was fully immersed, emotionally unwell in the best way, and honestly didn’t want it to end.

Highly recommend if you love emotionally intense romance, powerful chemistry, and stories that pull you in completely and refuse to let go. Just be sure to check trigger warnings before reading.

This was a really good listen. I love the dynamic of getting to know and love each other again after major trauma. The metal health rep was good. They have to learn to meet each other where they are now and taking all of the precautions needed to bridge the gap.

English is my 2nd language and i learned it all by myself, so it's not perfect by no means
Expect mistakes
I might come off as mean, picky and a little rude at times
I'll just put my notes here.

My notes are written simultaneously as i was reading and going deeper into the story.
So they mostly read like rants and think pieces.

Anyways, let's get into it.

The storyline ans the characters:

We have 3 MCs, who used to be in a relationship together, but drifted apart.
We have Barret
Eddie
And Cleo

Anyways

At first, Barret and Eddie get together
They later add Cleo who was Barret's BFF's little sister to their relationship
But due to some complications on all 3 sides, their arrangements fails and they are drift apart

The story starts with Cleo, who is engaged to a socialite, getting physically and emotionally abused by the said fiance and throughly controlled in every aspect of her life
Eddie notices how she's changed, from her behaviour to her appearance, and investigates and learns about the abuse
He then plans an interference and rescues her out, bringing her to a safe house to live with himself and Barret

From there, the guys try to help her heal from what happened to her and find herself again, help each other to fix their own broken relationship, and to finally find their way back to bring a throuple again

This was a very... short summary?
Cause that's literally the whole book, if i go into so much details, then it'd be spoiled.

Now, let me get into the real stuff

Very beautifully written
Very gorgeously balanced
Specially when the guys focus on her when she needs it
Or when they just focus on each other and NOT make it about her
The way these two love each other and their woman is just... Beautiful

I rarely see bi men in MMF going into details about how desirable and beautiful their male partner is to them

But here, both of them do go in details about both of their lovers

You could literally how they adore and want each other, just as much as they want their woman

And i love how the author focuses on the fact there are 3 diffrent relationships within the dynamic

And she focuses on all of them
Both 2 MFs and the MM

Like i absolutely adore how the guys simultaneously work on their relationship and navigate their own broken bond while also working to pull cleo out of her own mind and help her through her trauma

It's that easy to be there for and love both of your partners without turning the FMC into the center of their bisexuality

Like look at these few lines

(He whispers between each touch perfect, mine, beautiful.)

(“Eddie,” he says against my lips, his voice cracked open with need. “You don’t always have to hold me up. Let me hold you tonight.”)

Just two small instances in 2 back to back paragraphs

Like look how easy it is to write affection between men?
Look how easier it is to believe they love and desire each other?
How they're willing to be there for each other?

(Tears sting behind my eyes—not from pain, but from how much this means, from how much I need him.)

(Barret pulls off just long enough to look up at me, lips wet, eyes fierce and soft. “Let me love you like this, Eddie. Let me be the one tonight.”)

This is such a small thing to be grateful about, literally the bare minimum that should be in any poly relationship, not just MMF.

But as a bi man, i find it so disrespectful and disgusting when i read a poly book with bi men where their attraction to men is treated like a trope, kink and accessory all around, literally only treated as a sexual thing to elavate the sex for the FMC. (I can literally give you titles and names, this shit is so damn common)

Like look how beautifully the love between two men is treeted here?
Look how much these two love each other?

And let me tell you, they love their women exactly the same

They all literally worship each other, all 3 of them
And their lady loves them just as beautifully and fiercely

And they have pet names for each other as well?
Not only for the FMC?
Did the author read my other reviews and said "well, let me do it right this time and show the other people in the game how love actually is love"???

Every time they call each other baby, it just makes me swoon.
It literally makes their affection towards the FMC even more enjoyable and anticipated for me.

When you do the love between the men right and give it the nurturing and space it deserves, it makes me want the FMC to have the same as well, instead of resenting her for hogging and hoarding all the love and attention and leaving the scraps and crumbs for the men to share.

(“Fuck, Eddie,” he groans, hips rolling. “You feel like home. You feel like everything.”)

Like is it that hard?
Ugh, i love this for all of 3 of them.

Like why are we making the "why choose" in bi romances only about the woman?
When the men clearly don't have to choose between the people they supposedly love either?
We are we ignoring the relationship between the men and making the whole thing about the FMC?
I just find it odd, like it's literally MMF because the men are also queer and together.
Why are we ignoring that?

Come on authors, treat all the relationships as valid and equal.

(I love Eddie in ways I never thought possible. It isn’t that I love him more than Barret. I don’t. I love them both—equally and differently at the same time. It’s a lot more complicated to explain how it works, but it makes sense to my heart and my soul.)

Good god, i love their relationship.

And i love how respectful of her space they are.
She makes all the moves when she's ready and they're always there for her to put herself back together by their help.

This is so healing to me, as a victim of SA myself.

It's all perfect
The reassurance, the tenderness, the affection, the softness, the care itself... it's literally perfect.
Again, i just love how the author is not shying away from writing about two men romancing each other just as much as they romance their woman

It really warms my heart that she didn't restrain their bisexuality
That she didn't put their need and attraction to men in the backseat to bold their need and attraction for her
It just feels... real, rather than a poorly concocted fantasy for an audience who only sees male bisexuality as a monolith
The monolith being "love for her, affection for her, even their bisexuality for her pleasure, their whole existence being about her"

And i love how she doesn't make their relationship and moments about her in every chance she gets
She let's them have their own seperate relationship with each other, just like how they have their own seperate ones with her
And the fact that they say i love you to each other freely?
Not only to her?

And how the guys are emotionally mature enough to not use her as the "glue" and "brige" to regulate and navigate their emotions in their own seperate relationship?
Hallelujah, give me the healthy bi male representation we desperately need
Let them love their woman and each other equally and freely cause that's how a balanced dynamic should be

Ms Claudia, may your pillow be eternally cool and the right amount of soft when you put yout head down

The way these 3 desperately try to be physically connected in any situation is healing my heart
And i love how cleo also initiates physical touch as well
I've talked about the guys

But Ms Cleo is also building herself back up after the hell the endured and is taking her sexuality and love for her men back
Truly inspiring and beautiful.

She's a survivor, and she's not affraid of being honest and vulnerable
She's open with her men
And they're open with her

It's a delight to see her initiate the first move to be with them again, she knows they're his and she's theirs, as much as they're also each other's. It's a true triangle, each line ends in a knot and all the knot are connected to each other.

Truly beautiful.

The smut is good

It's not filthy

Though Eddie could make it filthy, the man has a mouth on him and the dominance is his first language.

But the sex here is mostly treated as a tool for connection and emotional intimacy

It's not super detailed and descriptive to make it borderline raunchy, not super filthy, and not super hard and fast.

It's rather mild and tame.

Which makes sense, cleo is still not on 100% and the guys are still finding their footing with each other.

But it gets a bit filthier as they open up further and we go deeper into the story

The first threesome in the book is hot
And it's all about Barret (doesn't mean Cleo or Eddie are excluded, it's actually their idea to make it about him)

Barret is between them

And Eddie is literally pressed to his back

And Cleo is clinging to him from the front

And I've never been happier to read a bi threesome

It was... freeing

And the aftercare with Eddie was everything

His eyes shine, raw and open, and I hold him there for another heartbeat, letting him see everything I don’t always say out loud.

Only then do I pull back, smoothing damp hair from his face before turning to her.

Cleo watches me with that look she gets when she’s trying not to cry chin tilted up, eyes shimmering, mouth soft with love. I clean her just as gently, careful not to overstimulate, murmuring quiet words the whole time. Her hand catches mine halfway through and holds it to her chest.

“I love you,” she says simply.

“I know.” I smile and lean down, kissing her belly, her sternum, her lips. “I love you more.”

Barret makes a sleepy, stubborn sound. “Impossible.”

I laugh. “Then we’ll have to test that theory.”

They’re both soft now, loose and sated, lying against the pillows like a tangle of limbs and breath. Cleo shifts first, rolling onto her side, and her hand drifts across Barret’s chest. She traces slow, lazy circles over his skin, nails grazing just enough to make him sigh. He turns into her touch immediately, like he needs it to breathe, forehead resting against hers. She smiles faintly, brushing her thumb along the curve of his jaw. He catches her fingers and brings them to his lips, kissing them in thanks, in promise.

I sit back on my heels, watching them. This is what I wanted to see—the two of them not just spent, but connected. Touching because they want to, not because I told them to. My throat tightens.

I lean forward, running my palm over both of them at once, my hand spanning Barret’s stomach and Cleo’s hip. “Touch each other,” I whisper. “Just like this.”

They do. Cleo’s hand slides higher over his chest. Barret’s arm curls around her waist, holding her closer.

“I want you to always touch each other when I’m not here,” I say, my voice thick, almost breaking. “When I am too. But . . . I need to know you’ll take care of each other.”

Barret lifts her wrist and presses a slow kiss to the inside of it. “We do,” he murmurs.

“We will,” she adds, her voice sleep-soft, eyes still on him.

I stroke my thumb along Barret’s ribs, then down the back of Cleo’s thigh. “Good,” I murmur, letting the word settle over them.

“That’s what I want. Right there.”.)

See how beautifully written and crafted love could be, if you do it without focusing fully on one person?
Yes, Barret was the center when it started
But not once Cleo was left out or ignored
And neither was Eddie
Absolutely gorgeous
Also, their morning after was just as adorable and affectionate
They wake up with Cleo in between, and have a conversation with her to make sure she was fine with everything that had happened.
Let's see what our sweet lady had to say

(“Not one regret,” I say softly. “Only that we didn’t get here sooner.”)

And the way Eddie says "let me hold my people for 5 more minutes" ??? Ugh, i love them together.

But barrett’s reassurance is what really set it in stone for me (not because Cleo’s was not needed, no, the story is just healing my own trauma with MMF in general)

(“You’re not doing this alone, Eddie.” His gaze holds mine, fierce and unwavering. “I’m here for you. Not just for her. I love you too.”)

See how he didn’t make his reassurance during a vulnerable moment about her? (May you boil alive in tarr, Ryder. The prick had to make Tristan's rape into some impowering moment for Zali, i won't even name that fuckass book, it doesn't deserve it)

How he still included her and reassured Cleo about his love?
See how easy it is?
I need all the authors to take notes
A tragedy can affect everyone in the relationship and all the people should always reassure each other

That's balance, to recognise who needs the love and reassurance more when something challenging happens
Not always focusing it all on one person, no matter the circumstances.
(Like that fuckass MMF book where one of the male mates literally burned alive to save her from her stupidity and the other male checked up on her first; while the other male was literally dying on the ground, gasping for air and barely hangimg to life, not naming that shitstain either)

And look what ms Cleo has to say after what Barrett said:

(Cleo’s hand finds his, binding us together in a way words never could. “Both of you,” she whispers, her voice breaking with a hope that feels like salvation. “That’s all I need. Just . . . both of you.”)

Exactly, mama. Reassure your men back. Remind them of your love, let them know you also love them.

Expected longer epilogues that delved deeper in them actually living and operating as a throuple, but she has bonus epilogues for them.

I also expected to see at least one or two more threesomes.

Like we were constantly told Cleo loves to watch, and well, she was never given the opportunity.

Like i wanted to see her voyeur side.

That's the only way i would love to read MM through the FMC's eyes, and i just know Cleo is a woman who appreciates the beauty of love in any form, specially between her men.

Like literally look at the way she talk about them without making it about herself and keep saying "how hot they are together, it's doing for me"?

Ugh i really wanted to read that.

Or maybe through one of the guy's pov
And between doing so, they'd look back to see how she's enjoying their intimacy

I would've also loved to see a 1on1 scene between the guys where Eddie took care of Barret on his own, we got it the other way around, and since the guys have a vers dynamic, i would've loved to see that too. (Basically Barret bottoming and let Eddie take the reign)

But these are just wishes, the story is still well done enough.

Anyways, I absolutely loved this book

I didn't connect to the characters as much as i wanted, which is an occurring problem i have with the books i read recently.

I won't go and say "cleo/barret/eddie, my baby" or "omg i see myself in them, they're so relatable" cause well, for some reason they don't feel as alive to me.

Maybe it's the writing? Yes, it's beautifully written but it's written in a way that i didn't find these characters as living beings, they were just that, characters.

Tho, their relationship was beautifully done, very beautifully and intellectually crafted.

It was as balanced as i could've hoped.

No one constantly was on the pedestal, no one was the center, no one was hogging all the affection and attention, most importantly, the MM relationship was not treated like a kink/trope/fetish to be ticked off of a list.

*sigh* i love it when authors don't write hetero centeric bisexual romances and treat the queerness like a real part of the dynamic.

So, kudos to you ms Claudia, you're absolutely amazing and i wish you the best.

Just some more deeper complaints:

I wish we had more backgrounds and details about the characters.

Or even about the side characters

Maybe it's a me problem cause even tho this book's in a series, I assumed some people might read it as a standalone

So considering that, there wasn't enough backgrounds on who these people are (including the MCs), what is exactly their history and how they are connected

For example
Like we don't get a more in depth introduction to Cleo’s family and brothers
Just that she has 4 brothers, Her SIL is her bestfriend, she has a nephew... and that's about it
We don't get anything about the other 3

Even the MCs themselves
We only get a shallow glimpse and some very lackluster info dump about all of these people, i just wish there was more to them than the relationship

I also wish it had a bit more "umpth" when it came to the storyline with Dorian (the abusive socialite ex fiance)

Like we could've started the book a bit earlier and seen how he actually was with her with our own eyes

Also, It could've given us a broader glimpse into Barret and Eddie's relationship, how far drifted they were, how it happened when Eddie noticed what Cleo was going through and how he rescued her from Dorian

Instead
We immediately start the book with Cleo already saved and in the safehouse with them, trying to survive her mind and memories

We rarely get any glimpse to the past, just 1-2 short flasgbacks to how Eddie and Barret started, and it was just a shallow introduction

I also wish we had some more flashbacks to when they got together

Specially when they got together with Ms Cleo

Tho, I still very much loved the relationship, and had a grand time reading about them finding their way back together.

It's a very beautifully done book that kept me reading more and more
And for that, it deserves a very well earned 5 stars.

Do I wish I would’ve read book 1 before this book?? Yes and here’s why. This book constantly bring up things that has happened in the past and while I don’t think you need to read book 1 I just think it would give the reader (like me) way for insight about the characters. Before reading this book CHECK YOUR TRIGGER WARNINGS!! Yes this is a second chance romance but it also talks about abuse and recovering from trauma. I love when characters really and I mean really work on themselves to be better for their partners. I highly recommend listening to the audiobook. Can’t wait to read book 3

LYRICS REMAIN UNCHANGED is the second book in the HEARTBREAK MIXTAPES series by Claudia Burgoa and narrated by Vivienne La Rue, Lance West, and Jason Clark. This series is described so well on amazon.com as a “collection of love stories set in the late 1990s and early 2000s, where connection meant waiting for the modem to sing and every song said what you couldn’t. Each book follows …souls bound by music and memory—people who lost something they thought they’d never get back, and the songs that lead them home.” Eddie Reznor, Barret Hetfield, and Cleo Wilder formed a loving connection, but Cleo got scared and ran, ending up in the clutches of a dangerous and powerful man. Two years later, Eddie realizes that something is wrong and she is rescued to an unknown location, effectively disappearing from New York society. While the rest of the world watches and wonders while her disappearance is investigated, Eddie and Barret work tirelessly to heal a traumatized and broken Cleo as well as themselves and the cracks in their relationship. This is a spicy, open door, first person, triple POV, contemporary romance with tropes such as shared trauma, recovery from domestic violence and addiction, best friend’s little sister, rockstar romance, MMF Romance, why choose, forbidden romance, second chance, forced proximity, woman in peril, 2000s nostalgia, romantic suspense, and found family. This was an incredibly emotional, moving story about second chances in more ways than one. This story cracked my heart open as I cried through Cleo’s trauma and the lengths her men went to keep her safe and help her heal. She was so damaged by her experience and they were as well. The love that existed between them was so intense that it bled through every moment, and so did the effort that Eddie and Barret put forth to heal as well. I think that the emotional rollercoaster was made even more intense by listening to the audiobook, the narrators’ performances were soul-stirring and deeply touching. If I had one note, it would be that while Cleo’s steps toward healing were so tentative until her men have to defend/declare their relationship to others. She went from timid, afraid, and unsure of her ability to work her way back to what they had once shared to being intimate with them as if a switch flipped. That part didn’t feel realistic to me, though I recognize that the book needed to move forward toward the HEA. Regardless, I didn’t think that this author could top (NOT SO) SIMPLE LYRICS, but she certainly has. I recommend this audiobook for listeners who enjoy romances that dig deep and make you cry. I will also note that checking trigger warnings may be advisable for sensitive readers.

Lyrics Remain Unchanged is a completely different book from all the others I've read by Claudia Burgoa, and I really liked that. I also loved that this book gave me those heartbreaking and emotional moments that this author handles so well. I enjoyed the love story between Eddie, Barret & Cleo, the way Claudia showed me the past of these characters, and how beautiful this trio is together.

Cleo is a character I loved in the first book, so it was so painful to learn what she went through with Dorian, how broken her heart is because of her parents, and how she constantly repeats that she doesn't feel good enough. I also think the author did an excellent job showing us the trauma this girl experiences and how she begins to live again with the help of Eddie and Barret. I loved reading about her being so brave, especially towards the end of the book, when she's reunited with Kit and her brothers.

Barret was my favorite of the trio: I really liked his cautious, tender, and adorable personality, It broke my heart to read about everything he had to endure at the hands of Kit's father, but I was so glad to know that Eddie was always there for him, taking care of him and giving him what he needed during that time in his past. The author also gave me Barret as a character who constantly fights to heal, who is always there for Cleo in her most vulnerable moments, and knows how to be patient with her and Eddie.

Eddie is the protector of these characters, a man who is as broken as they are but always does his best to care for and love them. He's a complex character who sometimes doesn't know how to handle his feelings, but I loved that he's willing to face his fears to heal, that he talks about his feelings with Barret, and that together they give Cleo the safe place she needs to overcome her trauma and heal.

The audiobook was completely heartbreaking and beautiful! And I'm loving listening to Jason Clarke narrate Claudia Burgoa's books because he ALWAYS gives me the most emotional performances, and hearing him as Eddie was so interesting, heartbreaking, and I loved every moment, especially when he's vulnerable with Barret and caring for Cleo.

This book was also my first time listening to Lance West and Vivienne Larue, and I enjoyed them so much. I think Lance West's narration made Barrett my favorite: I loved his personality, and every time he called Eddie "Edgar" it melted my heart. I also loved how he conveyed all the complexity of the character's emotions: his concern and understanding for Cleo, and the way he and Eddie confront their feelings and their past together.

Vivienne Larue was wonderful, I think Cleo is the character with the greatest emotional burden of this trio and she did a perfect job showing her vulnerability, the strength of this girl to face her trauma, heal and allow herself to fully trust Eddie & Barret.

También me encantó que este libro me diera esos momentos desgarradores y emocionales que ésta autora sabe ejecutar tan bien, disfruté mucho de la historia de amor entre Eddie, Barret & Cleo, de la manera en la que Claudia me mostró el pasado de estos personajes y lo hermoso que es este trio junto.

Cleo es un personaje que me encantó en el primer libro, por eso fue tan doloroso saber las cosas que vivió con Dorian, lo roto que esta su corazón debido a sus padres y la manera en la que repite constantemente que no se siente suficiente. También creo que la autora hizo un trabajo excelente mostrándonos el trauma que esta chica vive y la manera en la que empieza a vivir de nuevo con ayuda de Eddie & Barret, además, amé leerla siendo tan valiente, especialmente hacia el final del libro, reencontrándose con Kit y con sus hermanos.

Barret fue un poco mi favorito de este trio: me gustó mucho su personalidad cautelosa, tierna y adorable, me rompió el corazón leer todo lo que tuvo que pasar en manos del papá de Kit, pero me gustó mucho saber que Eddie siempre estuvo ahí para él, cuidándolo y dándole lo que él necesitaba en ese momento de su pasado. Además, la autora me dio en Barret un personaje que lucha constantemente por sanar, que siempre está ahí para Cleo en sus momentos más vulnerables y sabe como ser paciente con ella y Eddie también.

Eddie es el protector de estos personajes, un hombre que está tan roto como ellos pero siempre hace lo posible para cuidarlos y amarlos, es un personaje complejo que a veces no sabe cómo manejar sus sentimientos, pero me encantó que este dispuesto a enfrentar sus miedos para sanar, que hable de lo que siente con Barret y que ellos juntos le den a Cleo el lugar seguro que ella necesita para superar su trauma y sanar.

Another great one finished. I was excited to read this one because I’ve been a fan of the way Claudia has been writing MMF romance. It made me think about all the other ones I’ve read involving two men and a woman. None of them thought to also have the two men be attracted to each other. They only had the two men loving and being attracted to the woman, never each other. To me, at least with my taste, not knocking the other way they love but I like it better this way. Maybe I’m just a fan of two men loving each other but I feel like there’s more of a connection between the three of them or maybe Claudia just loves to mess with heartstrings, I don’t know. Regardless, this one took me a while to piece everything together. With Roderick and Kit’s story, you got a glimpse of the dynamics between Eddie, Barrett and Cleo. There were pieces, and you clearly knew the three of them were together you just didn’t know details. Then along comes this book and you find out that they cut things off with each other somewhere between 1997-1999 as supposedly this book takes place in 2000. The year isn’t as prominent in this book as it only tells you once, in the beginning, so it leads me to think it takes place in the span of one year. I can’t talk about this book without giving away the reason for breaking up and purpose of this story so I apologize for any spoilers. This book was all about what ends up being the downfall of their relationship and essentially focuses on patching whatever was broken between the three of them. It sounds like Eddie and Cleo got scared and she was the one that ultimately leaves them because she was afraid of getting hurt and it seems like Eddie and Barrett had issues with each other after that. It came down to Eddie struggling to be vulnerable and able to fall apart and let go of control, while Barrett was afraid to take the relationship public and scared of putting trust and faith with two other people. The story follows how Cleo dealt with leaving Barrett and Eddie and the result of it. The situation ends up with her losing herself emotionally and her whole personality as it talks about abuse she experiences, both physically and mentally, not done by Barrett and Eddie. It was a heavy subject and the recovery she was doing while being isolated from the world with only Eddie and Barrett as her companions. The book basically goes back to healing and allowing Cleo to recover and get back to her old self while working on building her relationship up again with Eddie and Barrett, gaining the trust and allowing herself to fall in love with them all over again. Then on the other side you had Barrett and Eddie working through their issues. Barrett thinks Eddie will leave again so he takes his heart out of the equation a good portion of the book because he’s afraid of getting left again as it seems like Eddie doesn’t have a good track record of staying when feelings get complicated and he can’t open up. I left this book wondering if I was glad I read it in the aftermath of them calling it off or if I was upset that I didn’t get to experience the pain and everything prior to them getting back together. This marks the second book in this series of having everyone already in love when the book starts and you have no idea how it happened. I wish we got the story of how they fall in love first, but at the same time, maybe this was the better way to go about the story? No one wants to read a book with no happy ending and it feels like that’s what would have happened if it was included and if glimpses of the past between Eddie, Barrett and Cleo are any indication. In the beginning, it was confusing because I didn’t know what happened and, Claudia once again left cagey hints, cryptic thoughts and Cleo sitting there physically bruised. Then before that, it was Eddie’s cryptic prologue as well as Barrett’s. I went into this book with no idea of what I was getting myself into. It was unpredictability at its finest, and I like that this book did that, but at the same time, it would have been nice to get a rundown from either one of them about what happened before diving into the story. Instead it was written in a way as a need to know basis. By the time the book was ending I had thought Cleo’s ex would have figured out their farce they were doing and would find her and it would be another cat and mouse situation. Thankfully, it doesn’t, which shocked me because any other romance would have done that, not Claudia and that was impressive and so welcome. The fact that they actually pulled off what they did is unbelievable. Any other book would have added loopholes and ways to get around it for the villain in the story to find the hero or heroine. I think that’s what shocked me the most. Also, this wasn’t exactly a slow burn but the sexual release doesn’t happen too late in the story which I appreciated. The way each scene focuses on either Eddie and Barrett, Eddie and Cleo or Barrett and Cleo with finally, all three of them to a gradual excitement, tension and tenderness they can finally express freely and with no emotional barriers. The way they each came undone was beautiful to me and it really felt like a connection and loving scene. Barrett ends up crying, so does Cleo and even Eddie get’s emotional finally and I loved seeing them finally be able to be vulnerable and trusting with each other. I felt their love and also their care when it came to each other and even one on one. It was a very tender and beautiful story. I look forward to Dexter’s chance at love which is seeming to take on the plot I’m more used to.

But in order for her (and them) to heal, they have to proceed with care, with caution, and with gentleness, even when both their instincts are to hover protectively. She's been through years of abuse, is closed-off, distant, and very untrusting of everyone, but love will prevail - if they're patient with her and themselves.



This trio's journey is an emotional one. Not only do Barret and Eddie help Cleo heal, they have a lot of work to do on themselves and their own relationship. Then there's the relationship between the three - probably the one that needed the most fixing, but it wasn't easy. No one does emotional pain quite like Claudia, and this one is a doozy. But they put in the work and were spectacularly rewarded - when they finally got to the other side, all 3 in love, healed, and happy.

When I first picked up one of Claudia’s books, it was just because I related to the tropes and the story, honestly, nothing pulls me in more than a good book that also involves music… but once I actually started reading, once I met Rod and Kit, once I began that journey into the past through music, I was completely hooked. I immediately knew I wanted to read everything this author writes!

Cleo really caught my attention in the first book, so much so that I couldn’t wait to read her story. While chatting with Claudia (who, by the way, is absolutely amazing when it comes to interacting with her readers), I found out it was a why choose (and who doesn’t love a good why choose?!) and that it would be much more angsty… and I instantly thought, yep, this is exactly what I’ve been waiting for!

Not only is this book full of angst from the very beginning, and not just one of the characters, but all three, but this is hands down one of the best why choose stories I’ve read/listened to lately. The initial relationship is between Eddie and Barrett, and you can feel in every word just how much they love each other, with Chloe joining them later on. The dynamic between the three of them is beautiful, and despite all their past trauma, their healing happens when they find their way back to each other.

I loved this second-chance romance that weaves the story of three broken people navigating their fears and struggles, bringing them together through healing, forgiveness, hope, and love. And what’s even more beautiful is that they didn’t need to isolate themselves to rebuild, they just had to respect each other’s boundaries.

Claudia writes from the soul, and this book is proof of that. Even though we go through so much pain, it always leads them back to each other, back to feeling more like themselves again. The writing is beautiful, lyrical, and captivating, and I love getting lost in her stories. She takes us on an emotional rollercoaster that leaves you raw, breathless, and completely satisfied… especially because there is a happy ending for all three of them! 🩷

The narration by Jason Clarke, Lance West, and Vivianne Larue was outstanding. They brought these complex characters to life so intimately through their voices, tone, and delivery, making me see them so clearly and feel every bit of their angst, heartbreak, and passion. I was completely captivated by their performance.

And sorry to the other two, but Eddie’s voice… wow. It gets under your skin, into your soul, and leaves you completely undone.

"I believe letting go might save me more than holding on ever did."

This is a story of healing more than anything. Cleo was trapped in an abusive relationship with her wealthy fiancé, Dorian, and when her former lovers Eddie and Barret found out, they arranged for her rescue. While Barret and Eddie help her recover, they are also trying to repair their own fractured relationship.

I found it really interesting when Barret says he's bisexual and was forced to hide it because he was told it would ruin the band, while Eddie explains he's pansexual and why. I think it gives a great insight into understanding both men.

Because the focus is on healing and reconnecting, there isn't a lot of action. When Cleo's family and Barret's former band members show up, there are a few funny interactions, but otherwise, it isn't pretty even. I actually think their arrival helped normalize the trio as they bound together to defend their relationship.

I really enjoyed getting to know Barret's former band members, Alec and Dexter. They weren't more than mentions in the last book, but this time, they were right in the mix. They both seem very interesting. I'm super excited Dexter's book is next as I liked him best. I also loved the occasional glimpses of the time period, although there weren't near as many as there were in book one.

There's nothing sequential in this book. Instead, it's more like the three of them are telling us what happened in their own way. Sometimes, they reflect back on things that happened in the past in the random way it does in conversations. Despite what Cleo went through, they never really describe it much in detail. The story isn't even filled with a ton of angst and pain. Instead, the focus is on healing and rebuilding themselves and their relationship. They all grow along and by the end are all changed in many ways. I think all three come out stronger because of it.

I've read other reviews that say you need to read the first book before this one because of the backstory, but I'm saying this isn't really true. In "(Not So) Simple Lyrics" there are a couple of brief comments implying that Eddie and Barret might have hooked up in the past and a few hints that Cloe is involved with them, but that's about it. Everything else that happened in the past is either presented in flashbacks, talked about in the book, or never explained. So, while I feel it's always a good idea to read books in order, it isn't required if someone wants to read this book first. Just understand that there will obviously be spoilers for the first book in this one since it takes place after it.

Lyrics Remain Unchanged is the second installment in the Heartbreak Mixtapes series by Claudia Burgoa. As always I recommend reading the series in order, but each book can be read as a standalone in an interconnected series. LCU is a second chance, why choose romance where the main leads learn to forgive and learn to heal and love again.

Set in the early 2000’s, the story follows Cleo, Eddie and Barret as they strive to fix their broken relationship, learn from the struggles of their past and find a better future for themselves. After rescuing Clio, Eddie and Barret are determined to reunite with her, but it is easier said than done. Clio isn’t the same person, she is distant and cold, keeping her emotions closed off and trusts sparingly. Love and trust are fairy tales to her, but isn’t that normal after the trauma she has suffered? Slowly the men start to break through the walls that she has constructed around her heart, slowly she lets them back in, they give her understanding, compassion, love and respect, things that seemed so foreign to her before. But it’s not just Clio that needs those things, it’s Eddie and Barret as well, these two have a complex relationship and they too must also be honest and open with each other for it to work.

Clio, Eddie and Barret felt like meeting up with friends you haven’t seen in a long time. There is so much that has happened, and you want to know about all of it, all at the same time, but you have to sit back and listen to them tell you what happened. Eddie just wants to fix all the problems, even the ones he has no idea how to fix, and Barret, well he’s Barret. Clio is just doing her best on working through her issues, and the guys truly do make the most out of trying to help her. You can feel their chemistry and passion for one another and that makes the angsty scenes that much better. As always the writer's style is top notch, Ms. Claudia can write a book that keeps her readers engaged and waiting for the next page and characters that have such depth they feel real. LRU has layers upon layers, drama, heartfelt emotions, spicy moments and moments that have you feeling like you're going to pull your hair out, but it makes for the best kind of read. Congrats to Ms. Claudia for another fantastic release, I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Claudia Burgoa does it again, pens another amazing and beautifully moving novel set in her “Heartbreak Mixtapes” series, and wow, she not only ups the heat but ups the angst and emotional turmoil too. This second book of the series is Cleo Wilder, Barret Hetfield and Eddie Reznor’s story, a second chance romance and a story of healing, learning to live and love again. Barrett and Eddie need to fix their broken relationship, and Cleo, with them by her side, needs to fix her broken self. This story hooked me right from the start and captivated my attention the entire time. The intriguing characters and their storylines/backstories had me wanting to know more about them, what led them to where they were in the present, and where it all went wrong. To keep it spoiler-free, I will only mention Barrett and Eddie are there for Cleo, who is recovering from a terrible ordeal, and Eddie, the fixer of problems, is using all the resources he can to keep her safe, and you will recognize the names of who calls in to help and get things done. The complexity and depth of the characters are remarkable, and so is their intensity. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all plays out with plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance of an amazing triad. Claudia Burgoa, thank for another fantastic trip back in time, and the amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

I loved how they took each role and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound. The cast flawlessly embodied their characters, grasping every aspect of their personalities. Clarke was superb as Eddie, as was West as Barret and LaRue as Cleo, all were naturals in their roles. You could hear how much heart they put into their performance as they conveyed their character’s emotions, making you feel each one. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to, and their captivating performance keeps you hooked to the story.

Why choose/polyamorous romances are always a bit tricky for me. I almost always end up favoring one relationship over the others. That said, I keep coming back to them because when they’re done well, the emotional complexity and nuance can be incredibly compelling.

This book started off with me feeling like I missed something. Like I had accidentally picked up a sequel instead of a standalone. While it is an interconnected standalone, the depth of history between Eddie, Barret, and Cleo makes it feel like there’s a whole book missing. We do eventually get pieces of their past through flashbacks and conversations, but honestly, their backstory was so rich and emotionally charged that it deserved its own dedicated book. I would have loved to fully experience how they came together and fell apart before stepping into this chapter of their lives.

That said, once the story settles, the emotional core really starts to shine. Cleo’s walls are high for a reason, and I appreciated that they don’t come down easily. Eddie and Barret don’t try to fix her or rush her healing; they meet her with patience, consistency, and respect. In turn, they’re forced to confront their own flaws and unresolved pain. Their relationship is messy, layered, and deeply intertwined, and it takes real vulnerability from all three of them to even attempt moving forward.

There’s a strong sense of history here—it feels like reconnecting with people you once knew intimately but have since drifted away from. Eddie carries this need to fix things, even when he doesn’t have the tools to do so. Barret is completely unapologetic in who he is. And Cleo, she’s doing the hardest work of all - surviving, healing, and trying to believe she’s worthy of love again.

The chemistry between them is undeniable, which only heightens the angst and emotional weight of the story. The multiple POV structure works really well here, giving insight into each of their motivations, fears, and internal struggles. It adds depth and makes even the more frustrating moments feel grounded and real. The story doesn’t shy away from heavy topics like addiction, abuse, and trauma, and they’re handled with care. There’s definitely heat, but it never comes at the expense of the emotional storytelling.

Overall, I enjoyed this, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that I wanted more. More of their backstory, more depth to how they got here, more time with their past before diving into their present. It’s an emotional, angsty, and ultimately hopeful read, but one that left me wanting.

Narrated by Vivianne Larue, Jason Clarke and Lance West. Jason is one of my favorite narrators and there are few male narrators that can meet him on his level. Lance West’s voice just didn’t do it for me like Jason’s did. As the softer of the two male leads it worked well for the dynamic but his narration was my least favorite of the three. Vivianne LaRue did well as Cleo.

Lyrics Remain Unchanged is the second book in the Heartbreak Mixtapes series by Claudia Burgoa. It's one of those books that grips you and pulls you in and just won't let you go - I found myself thinking about this one long after I had finished listening, and I know I will listen to it again.

This is an amazing and beautifully moving rollercoaster listen, full of emotional turmoil, angst and love. Somehow, I missed the first book in this series, but after listening to this second book, I will be listening to it next! Even though I hadn't met the characters before, Cleo Wilder, Barret Hetfield, and Eddie Reznor were so well drawn that listening to their story was like joining old friends as they attempt to find happiness the second time around. Their story is all about healing, forgiveness, and learning to trust again and perhaps find love again. All three characters are broken, as are their complex relationships. Barrett and Eddie need to fix their broken relationship, and then there's Cleo, who is much more broken than either of them.

This intriguing story is told by each of them, and we get to know what drives these deep and well-drawn characters as their individual backstories unfold. I wanted to know more about them, what brought them to where they are? What went wrong? I don't want to give spoilers, so all I will say is that Eddie and Barrett are there for Cleo, having rescued her from a terrible situation, but they also have to see if they can fix their own relationship.

Eddie is the one who tries to fix everyone's problems, especially Cleo's, using resources he alone has to keep her safe. The author's writing style, along with the complexity and depth she brings to the characters, is amazing; the chemistry shared by all three is palpable, intense and hot.

There are so many layers to this story, packed with drama, angst, deep and heartfelt emotions, palpable chemistry, and steamy romance, as well as an amazing connection that makes this triad work.

The talented voice artists, Vivienne LaRue, Jason Clarke and Lance West, did an amazing job. They took each role and flawlessly embodied their characters, bringing every aspect of each personality to life. You could hear the emotion and depth they put into their performance, making you feel every emotion their characters did.

And the Wilder siblings family moments? Pure gold. The tenderness, the protectiveness, the humor—it all adds warmth to a story already rich with feeling.

This book is riveting, sensual, and full of heart. But above all, it’s a story about reclaiming your voice, choosing love that feels safe, and building a future with people who see every fractured piece of you and stay anyway.

My only frustration—and the reason I kept going back to the beginning to search for clues—is that a few plot threads never quite get the closure they deserve. The book hints at deeper motives and machinations behind Cleo’s captivity, Arthur Bradley mentioned how Dorian took control over all aspects of Cleo’s life but we don’t get any information on what he aimed to achieve, and those answers never fully materialize. I also found myself wanting more clarity on how the rescue was carried through. These aren’t deal‑breakers, but they did leave me wishing for just a bit more connective tissue.

A beautifully resonant read that left me full—even if I’m still side‑eyeing those unanswered questions.

No one knows, as Cleo is their best friend Rod's little sister. But the feelings were so deep and real that Cleo could not trust in them, and she left, leaving the two men a mess. Eddie and Barret too fell apart after she left, turning drugs and alcohol all while their lives were blowing up. Now they find out Cleo is in a precarious situation, and they do what they need to do to get her out and keep her safe. Now they need to tread lightly as Cleo adjusts to her new life, and the three slowly explore their feelings, and work on their problems. While all this is happening though, there are other things going on. A threat of danger to Cleo is real, and to deal with it, extreme measures need to be taken. Burgoa is a master at feelings. She jumps into love with both feet and isn't afraid to deal with relevant topics that always worm their way into my heart. Eddie and Barret had to deal with what people might say regarding them being together. Add in Cleo, and now facing her brother and the public is tough.Burgoa also gives all the fun when she does crossovers from her different series, and bringing in characters I have gotten to know is like going home to family dinner. The happiness, the bickering and the protectiveness only family and friends can give is the best. This is a fabulous listen and I loved it!

Narrated by Jason Clarke, Vivianne Larue and Lance West,  this listen is everything. These three develop an incredible chemistry that brings out all the emotions right from the first chapter.Clarke as Eddie is that man who holds his emotions a bit, but loves hard. West is Barret, and his feelings are all over his face! And Larue as Cleo is a mess of feelings, working through just so much. Each one pulls out the best and worst in their characters, adding such a real feel to their relationship. Loved them and this listen.

I felt that this was about love after almost losing it.
It's a remarkable book that will initially ruin you but, in the end, raise you from the ashes of painful experiences. Giving you a provocative perspective on the relevance of second chances.

Years later Cleo resurfaces, not as the woman they remember but as a survivor of abuse. She is broken, hollow and barely holding on. Eddie and Barret risk everything to rescue her. As Cleo struggles to reclaim life, Eddie and Barret work on their own problems.
Can they love her? Each other? Without destroying everything?
I enjoyed how our trio worked on their own issues/trauma but were there for each other too. They show much growth in the span of the book.
One thing I was missing, I would have loved to have more insight into our villain Dorian. What drove him? What does he want from Cleo?
The book is a heart wrenching, slow burn romance that explores trauma, redemption and the messy, complicated bonds of love. If you’re a fan of emotionally intense stories with complex characters, found family vibes, and a touch of darkness, this book will leave you breathless, aching, and rooting for its broken but resilient heroes.

This book is narrated by Jason Clarke, Vivienne Larue and Lance West and they did an excellent job. I literally had to stop doing anything else when I heard Eddie speak for the first time (and all following times). I remember sitting in a restaurant for lunch by myself and I literally stopped my hand going to to my mouth. Holy Hell! So good!
Jason embodies Eddie with raw intensity and so controlled. I felt every pain, his love and his desperation with such clarity. His voice is smooth yet gravelly, commanding and still tender.
Vivienne as Cleo was another hit. She manages to have her voice soft and fragile but still come off as resilient. She made Cleo feel raw and reel.
Lance his voice was made to be the embodiment of Barret. Lance nailed that rough and smokey rockstar edge with perfection.
The interaction between all three narrators was insane. Their voices weaved together so seamlessly. It was a joy to listen to.

I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page-turning story. I loved everything about this book. The characters. The angst. The heartbreak. The emotions—all were spot on. I had tears streaming because I could feel their heartbreak. This book was flawlessly and poignantly written about Cleo Walker, Barret Hatfield, and Eddie Reznor’s bittersweet love story.

Cleo, Barret, and Eddie are all broken individuals. After Cleo left her abusive relationship because she looked for love with someone she shouldn't have, Cleo is broken, cold, withdrawn, not trusting and questioning love.
