Wall Street Journal & USA Today bestselling author Emma Slate writes romance with heart and heat.
Called “the dialogue queen” by her college playwriting professor, Emma writes love stories that range from romance-for-your-pants to action-flicks-for-chicks.
When she isn’t writing, she’s usually curled up under a heating blanket with a steamy romance novel and her two beagles—unless her outdoorsy husband can convince her to go on a hike.
A perfect continuation of the story!Emma's writing is just superb. She makes me giggle like a schoolgirl and speed through her books because they keep me so entertained. Poet and Brooks are adorable together and compliment each other so well. The spice? Perfect! The girls' relationship? So relatable! The story is so real you feel a part of it. I cannot wait to continue with Wyn's book!
*I received this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review*
Thank you, @EmmaSlate, for the opportunity to be a part of the ARC team. I will always provide honest feedback, whether it is positive or negative.
Did I get this and read it all in the same day? Yes....Yes I did. :)
Personally, I am a sucker for safe, (sometimes) insta-love, non-cheating stories. The first series I read from Slate was her Tarnished Angels books, all 8 of them! I love a man who knows what he wants and cuts the BS and goes after it. She has a tendency to write her MMCs that way, and her FMCs are NEVER annoying to me. IMO, FMCs tend to be written in ways that annoy me, but Slate's females are strong, understand they hold the power, but they don't overdo it. What I mean by that is: Let's say someone is a "pro" at something or it's literally their job/business...like the MC boys. There are things they did that were not above the law, and they had associates that were #same. There are certain parameters set in place to keep folks, particularly women and children, safe. I appreciate that Slate writes her FMC to not love that limitation, but to respect it b/c the person setting up the boundaries knows more about the dangers than the person on the outside. I hope that makes sense...
Anyway, Prospector's Peak. *Sigh...* I freaking loved Brooks and Poet. I loved the other two books in this series, and I went into it expecting it to follow the same pattern: meet the guy, it goes from 0-60, and it did not disappoint! I loved how Brooks helped her, was kind but not forceful, took care of her etc.
Poet, God bless her. She was really coming into her own, and to be fair to her, she is young. I respected that she quit her job, moved to Huckleberry Hill, and just really grabbed onto life. There was so much courage in that decision that she didn't even realize. She isn't the personality type that one would typically classify as courageous, moreso meek, but she had some balls, I'll give her that.
There is a little nod to the Tarnished Angels b/c Brooks and his brother, Archer, were members of the club, and Brooks did some time in prison due to that involvement. I will say, the reason he did the time isn't what you'd think. He's incredibly loyal, thoughtful, patient, kind, and very much a lover, but he'd burn the world for her, and I LOVE THAT.
I think the thing I love the most about Slate's books is that she doesn't waste time. There isn't a ton of push and pull when it comes to the MCs once they are with the other person. Sure, before their book, there may be some, but once the book is about them, they are all in. I love that because reading, for me, is an escape, and I don't want to spend the majority of that journey in this middle ground. I want to see the growth of their relationship, experience the emotional intimacy, and be privy to the "good stuff" for more than a couple of chapters or the epilogue. So, I love that she writes her books that way. I love that her characters live each moment like it could be their last, they don't wait, and, again, I love that.
Also, I love her FMCs aren't with the bullshit. Poet, let Brooks take care of her. Not that she can't take care of herself, but what is wrong with letting the man (or woman) who loves you express it, show it, or give it to you? Bucking against it takes away the blessing or joy for them.
All in all, I mother freaking LOVED this book and cannot wait for the audio. I have listened to Huckleberry Hill, read Lavender Lake, and now read this one, and I am here for every single one of her stories.
First of all, thank you Emma for choosing me to receive an ARC of Prospector’s Peak!! She has knocked it out of the park again with another amazing book in the Saddles & Spurs series!
Prospector’s Peak is a heartfelt small-town romance that leans into spontaneity, emotional growth, and the idea that sometimes the most life-changing decisions come from the most impulsive moments. The story follows Poet, a 23-year-old woman who abruptly leaves her New York life behind to reunite with her best friends in Huckleberry Hill. Her journey quite literally crashes into fate when she wrecks her car and is rescued by Brooks, the brooding yet magnetic male lead. From that moment on, their connection is undeniable—and fast-moving. Readers who enjoy “insta-love” tropes will find plenty to swoon over as Poet and Brooks dive headfirst into a whirlwind romance. What makes the story engaging is the contrast between Poet’s impulsive optimism and the reality checks she faces. Her dream of opening a bookstore in Huckleberry Hill is quickly challenged when she’s denied a business loan, forcing her to confront whether she’s truly building a future—or just running from her past. Meanwhile, Brooks brings his own complications, with a mysterious history that lingers just beneath the surface. Their relationship, while passionate, lacks the deeper conversations needed to sustain it, which ultimately leads to a believable and emotional conflict when his past resurfaces. The turning point of the novel—Poet’s accident at Prospector’s Peak—is both dramatic and symbolic. Stranded in a mine shaft after fleeing a mountain lion, she’s forced into stillness for the first time in the story. This moment of isolation becomes one of clarity, allowing her to reflect on love, forgiveness, and what truly matters. It’s here that the emotional core of the book shines, as Poet realizes that Brooks’ past does not define the man he is now. The resolution brings both comfort and surprise, with a pregnancy reveal that adds another layer to Poet’s already fast-changing life. While some readers may find the pacing of these developments a bit rushed, it aligns with the novel’s overarching theme: life rarely unfolds in neat, predictable steps. The introduction of Poet’s grandfather adds warmth and grounding to the story. His initial concern over her impulsiveness evolves into acceptance, reinforcing the theme of found—and chosen—family that runs throughout the book. Overall, Prospector’s Peak is a cozy, emotional romance that embraces big feelings, quick decisions, and second chances. It may not linger heavily in slow-burn territory, but it delivers satisfying character growth and a strong sense of place in Huckleberry Hill. The ending sets up anticipation for the next installment, especially for readers eager to see Wyn—Poet’s third best friend—finally step into her own love story after watching everyone else find their happily ever after.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐️(5/5) A charming, fast-paced romance perfect for fans of small-town settings, found family, and love that changes everything in an instant.

I’m actually feral over this book. Like, fully unhinged, kicking my feet, clutching my chest kind of obsessed.
Prospector’s Peak absolutely swallowed me whole and refused to let me breathe until the very last page. Emma Slate really said “you want angst, heat, tenderness, danger, found family AND emotional damage?” and then delivered all of it wrapped up in dusty mountain air and engine grease.
Poet and Brooks??? I was gone for them from the first second. DONE. The way their story starts is already chaotic (hello near-death moose encounter?!) and then Brooks rolls in like some rugged, morally grey guardian angel in a truck and suddenly I’m questioning all my life choices because WHERE is my cowboy-biker ex-con?? 😩
Brooks Keel is that man. Quiet, intense, carrying the weight of his past like a shadow that never quite leaves him. He doesn’t say much but when he does?? It hits. And those small moments… the looks, the protectiveness, the way he slowly lets Poet in… it felt intimate in a way that sneaks up on you and then wrecks you.
And POET. I loved her. She’s young and figuring things out but she never felt weak to me. There’s this softness to her, but also this quiet strength that grows as the story unfolds. Watching her fall for Brooks, watching her hope, her fear, her love… it felt real and messy and beautiful.
Their chemistry?? Off the charts. It’s not just physical, though yeah, the tension is chef’s kiss. It’s emotional. It’s that “I shouldn’t want you but I do and now I’m in too deep” kind of pull that makes you read just one more chapter at 2am and suddenly it’s sunrise.
And then the twist with Brooks’ MC past??? I was NOT OKAY. My heart literally dropped. Everything shifts and you’re sitting there like “no no no no this cannot be happening.” The trust, the love, the future they were building… it all cracks and I felt every piece of it.
The pregnancy storyline just made everything hit harder. The stakes felt so real. The question of who Brooks really is versus who Poet believed him to be??? Pain. Pure emotional chaos.
But that’s what made it so good. It wasn’t easy love. It was earned. Bruised. Tested.
And the setting?? Huckleberry Hill feels like this little bubble of magic where time slows down and hearts get rebuilt… until reality comes crashing in like a storm.
I’m still not over it. I don’t think I will be anytime soon.
If you love broody cowboys, wounded heroes, soft-but-strong heroines, and romances that grab your heart and squeeze… this is it.
I’m excited for wyns story but can we also get a Muddy story please or at least the cook book Easy 5 stars. Honestly, I’d give it more if I could. I’m emotionally compromised and completely in love.
I received Prospector’s Peak as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is absolutely a five‑star read and one I’ll be buying in paperback to reread again and again. SO good and SO hot!
Emma Slate is hands‑down one of my favourite authors. If you haven’t read her Tarnished Angels MC series, you need to! It’s deliciously over‑the‑top, full of alpha men who live to protect their women. I especially loved how Prospector’s Peak connected both worlds—I actually kicked my feet and did a silent scream when the Tarnished Angels MC was mentioned. Brooks (the MMC in Prospector’s Peak ) is a former ex‑con MC biker turned cowboy from the Tarnished Angels that you just can’t help but fall for. Don’t worry, though—you don’t have to read that series to enjoy this one.
Emma Slate brings the heat to every book she publishes but never sacrifices story for spice. I love that you get delicious filth wrapped up in a well‑written, emotionally grounded plot with characters who feel real and lived‑in.
Prospector’s Peak is the third full‑length romance in Slate’s Saddles & Spurs series and follows a fiercely independent city gal named Poet who quite literally swerves off a mountain road into a life she never expected in Huckleberry Hill, where two of her best friends are shacked up and pregnant with their own hot cowboys. She’s a virgin who just quit her job, blew up her old future, and—in true cowboy‑biker fashion—finds herself tangled up with a rugged, alpha rancher who’s equal parts protective and possessive. Their chemistry is off the charts, and the way they build trust through vulnerability makes the steam even more satisfying. I knew from the very beginning that Poet’s story was going to be epic—and it didn’t disappoint.
This book is a wild, emotional ride through identity and new beginnings, anchored by Slate’s signature blend of small‑town charm, cowboys, and kink. Fair warning: there are some heavy themes and emotional beasts, but you’re still guaranteed a hard‑earned, satisfying HEA by the end. It also leaves us yearning for more, especially with the final installment of the series coming next—Wynn’s story. I can’t wait to find out how she ends up madly in love in Huckleberry Hill with the rest of the girl gang.
If you’re into dirty cowboys who always get their women pregnant, possessive heroes, virgin heroines, light power dynamics, and consensual kink, this should shoot straight to the top of your TBR.
“You don’t know my world. But a woman who gets on the back of our bike, we expect her to ride with us through anything.”
Thanks to Emma Slate for the ARC. All opinions are my own in the following ARC Review.
Genres: Cowboy Romance, Small Town Romance Tropes: Meet-Cute, Cowboy/City Girl, Ex-Con, Age Gap, Opposites Attract, Virgin FMC, He Falls First, Obsessed Hero, Soft Only For Her, Surprise Pregnancy MC: Poet (FMC), Brooks (MMC) Setting: Huckleberry Hill Triggers: suppressed emotions, parental abandonment Epilogue: Yes
Synopsis: After a chance meeting following a minor accident, Brooks and Poet form an instant connection while staying in the same hotel in Huckleberry Hill, where Poet has just moved to be closer to her best friends. As they spend more time together, their relationship deepens, and they begin opening up about their pasts, including Brooks’ time in prison and the complicated life he left behind. At the same time, Poet starts building a new future for herself, deciding to stay in town and pursue her dream of opening a bookstore. With support from those around her, both her business plans and her relationship with Brooks begin to take shape, though their connection quickly grows intense. As their lives become more intertwined, unexpected revelations and personal challenges put their relationship to the test. Both Brooks and Poet are forced to confront hard truths, and decide if they’re willing to trust each other fully, and fight for the future they’ve started to build together.
Thoughts: This might be my favorite of the series yet! Poet and Brooks have an amusing meet-cute that makes for such a strong start. They both fall hard and fast, and despite not knowing each other long, Emma does a fantastic job showcasing the depth of their connection from the very beginning. I love how Poet and Brooks comfort each other, and always seek the other out. I’m glad they got to the point to where they are completely open with one another, even if it was forced on them. I think their major fight was important for the longevity of their relationship because it pushed them to confront things they may have otherwise avoided, and therefore helped set a stronger foundation moving forward. Although he has a rough past, Brooks proved to be an amazing partner. He and Poet bring out the best in each other, and also fill in the pieces that were unknowingly missing. Loving this series, and can’t wait to see how Wyn is going to end up staying in Huckleberry Hill.
Prospector's Peak is the third book in Emma Slate's Saddles & Spurs Series.
I have been eagerly waiting for Poet's story and I'm thrilled to say it was everything I hoped for and more.
Welcome back to Huckleberry Hill. Are you ready to follow Poet as she searches for her own HEA? Well, pack your bags and dive into this fabulous story and don't forget the bear spray.
Brooks, Poet and their insta love have the townspeople of Huckleberry Hill swooning. Although navigating this new love comes with its own set of obstacles. Brooks is an ex-con with a dark past. Poet lives across the country. Will their love crumble when secrets start to surface and dreams fall by the wayside?
Brooks will sweep you right off your feet with his protectiveness and gentleness with Poet. I loved his discipline and how he protects those who need protection. I loved Poet's determination to find her way and make her own choices. I loved the chemistry that brought them together, the tender moments of sharing a life and the passion that comes along with their love.
A return to Huckleberry Hill wouldn't be the same without all the characters we all love from books one and two. It's great to see how they are progressing in their lives and how much they all love Poet. While there are scenes with the friends and spouses, Brooks and Poet carry the story on their own.
There are a few surprises in store for you in this story and I hope that you love them just as much as I did. Dinner with Muddy and the family is always entertaining and when I saw some sparks fly at dinner, a secret wish bloomed. Now, I'm hoping there will be a fifth story coming to Huckleberry Hill or maybe a novella.
The conclusion of Brooks and Poet's story warmed my heart. I loved that there was a twist I was not expecting and although I love Hadley and Salem’s stories, Poet's may be my favorite.
I recommend Prospector's Peak for all the readers who love small town drama, love that protects, an ex-con cowboy with a dark past, found family, open door spice, and a love that leads you home.
Thank you, Emma Slate, for the ARC of Prospector's Peak. It is fabulous. All opinions are my own.
Up next in the Series is Wyn's story and I'm already looking forward to visiting Huckleberry Hill again for her HEA.
I love a slow burn as much as the next person, but sometimes a love story that hits fast and hard just works, and Prospector’s Peak delivered exactly that for me. Brooks and Poet fall quickly, but it never felt rushed. Instead, it felt like two people recognizing something real and choosing not to waste time fighting it.
Their story kicks off when Poet swerves off a mountain road to avoid a "moose" and ends up in a ditch, only to be rescued by Brooks Keel, the quiet, rugged cowboy-biker with a complicated past. From that moment on, the connection between them is undeniable. Brooks is steady, protective, and completely locked in on Poet from the start. He doesn’t play games, he doesn’t hesitate, and despite his ex-con past, Poet never feels safer than she does with him.
Poet is only 23 and still figuring out who she is, but there’s a quiet courage in her decision to leave everything behind and start fresh in Huckleberry Hill. I loved watching her come into her own, especially as she allowed herself to fall for Brooks and build a new life. She may be softer and a little more reserved, but she’s stronger than she realizes, and I really appreciated that growth throughout the story.
One of my favorite things about Emma Slate’s books is that once her characters commit, they’re all in. There isn’t endless push and pull. Instead, we get to watch their relationship grow, deepen, and evolve. Brooks’ past, including his ties to the Tarnished Angels and his time in prison, creates real tension and forces them to have honest conversations, but it ultimately strengthens their connection. Brooks is fiercely loyal, protective, and the kind of hero who would burn the world for the woman he loves, and I absolutely loved that about him.
I also really appreciated that Poet didn’t constantly push back against Brooks’ care. She allowed herself to be loved and supported, and that dynamic added warmth and emotional depth to their relationship.
Prospector’s Peak is heartfelt, emotional, and full of small-town charm. Brooks and Poet fall fast, love hard, and fight for each other in a way that felt both intense and genuine. This might be my favorite in the series yet, and I’m already looking forward to Wyn’s story.
Back to Huckleberry Hill! I just adore this series….I’d move there in a heartbeat.
I was so excited to read about Poet and I could not wait to get my hands on this book. She and Brooks were adorable and such a good couple. I thought they were just a really good match. I loved seeing the dynamic layout between them and honestly Brooks is just amazing and I love how he interacted with her the entire time.
I could not love Muddy more in this book. I love her love her love her and she’s just the most brilliant character and I cannot wait to see what happens to her in the next book because I feel like something big is coming for her. In a good way!
The main love story was 10 out of 10 no notes. I loved how they were together. I loved the almost Insta love between them. I thought they were wonderful. Brooks just gets her and she truly loved him. They are such a great couple.
I’m gonna give this book again just a five out of five stars. I really love this series. I love the characters other than Salem who I did like after her book but every time she comes up and does something crappy it just reminds me that she’s annoying and I get so mad at her. I am so very excited to read the next book. I cannot wait for when to get her happy ending. She so deserves it and I will not spoil her many epilogue, but I totally knew that was what was gonna happen and why she would be headed to Huckleberry Hill.
Cannot wait for the next book!
——————
Side Note- not really a spoiler but just a thing—
I will say I was super annoyed and maybe I’m just a hater, but I don’t care for Salem. She is such a brat and she makes everything about her and the way she continuously hurts their father even in this book honestly makes me really mad and I kind of hated any scene that she was in. I did get annoyed with Hadley as well. I don’t know what was up with the twins in this book, but their judgmental nature toward Poet which honestly just kept coming up and was super annoying. Poet should’ve been more pissed at them. Like pots meet kettle?
Thank you so much to the author Emma Slate for the ARC of this book.
“I just met him. And yet it feels like I’ve known him forever.”
Prospector’s Peak is the 3rd installment in the Saddles and Spurs series. This is my favourite book in the series so far and I honestly can not wait for book 4.
Prospector’s Peak is about Poet and Brooks (previously introduced in Huckleberry Hill and Lavender Lake). Their story is an insta-love story which was so well written it felt natural to watch their relationship develop and grow despite the short timeline. Right from the beginning of the book the chemistry between the 2 main characters is there, it was an instant attraction between the two. Their relationship is full of banter, so much banter, love, care, admiration of each other and full of support. Brooks is a caring, loyal, supportive and protective MMC and will do anything in his power to support Poets dreams and make sure she’s cared for. Poet is a courageous character who spontaneously moves to Huckleberry Hill and chases her dreams, she grows in confidence and is such a lovable character. Brooks saves Poet after running into her after an accident where he helps rescue her and that’s where their relationship begins, from there their relationship quickly develops as they fall further in love with each other and give great nicknames to one another (Freckles and Beanstalk).
I really like the pacing of the books and how small pieces of information about Brooks’s past were given keeping me invested in the story as well as the fast developing relationship between him and Poet. Something I really enjoy about the way this whole series is written is getting to see a continuation of the previous characters' stories, while the new couples takes the lead. This book continues on the small town vibes think everyone knows everyone, and all is friendly. I’m so glad we get to see more of Muddy who really brings in the found family feeling of the book, she takes Poet in as her own, and helps her get set up in the town and helps to get Poet a step closer to her dreams.
I rate the book 5/5.
Tropes: Age gap Insta-love Small town cosy romance ex-con/cowboy/biker
First of all, thank you, Emma, for giving me a second chance to read the ARC of Saddles & Spurs #3. Huckleberry Hill is one of those stories that truly lingers in your heart long after the last page 🤍✨
The friendship between Poet, Wyn, Salem, and Hadley is everything I could ever want in a friend group 🫶🏼 The love, loyalty, and unwavering support they have for each other is so beautiful to see. I’ll admit though, my heart aches a little for Wyn right now—being the only one not caught up in the romance side of things 💔 (but I just know her time is coming 👀).
Now let’s talk about Poet and Brooks… because WOW 😍🤠 Cowboy + insta-love + accidental pregnancy = absolute perfection. What more could you ask for?!
Brooks completely stole my heart. The way he cares for Poet—without ever overwhelming her—was my favorite part of the entire book 🥹 He supports her, respects her choices, and never once judges her while she’s trying to figure out her path. That kind of quiet, steady love? Yes please 🙌
One thing that really stood out to me was how thoughtful Brooks is. He understands Poet so deeply—especially knowing she’s often the last to hear things in her friend group—and makes sure she’s always the first to know when it matters 💛
And the way he keeps Wyn included too? I absolutely loved that. I have a feeling Brooks and Wyn’s friendship is going to be something really special in book four 👀✨
Brooks’ past isn’t perfect—it’s messy and complicated—but everything he’s done comes from a place of protection and love for those who couldn’t protect themselves. There’s something incredibly noble about that 🖤
And listen… I’m usually not an insta-love fan 🙈 But with Poet and Brooks? I believed it completely. You can feel their connection from the very first moment—especially when Poet tells him, “don’t call me ma’am.” That spark? Instant. Undeniable. Everything ❤️🔥
✨ Overall, I’m giving this book 4 stars!
I’m already counting down the days until book four because I NEED more of this world 🤠💫
Cowboys, chaos & consequences; why Brooks Keel might ruin you
3.75 ⭐️ | 2.5 🌶️
Emma Slate really said “hold on tight” with Prospector’s Peak, and she meant it.
This third instalment in the Saddles & Spurs series throws us headfirst into a whirlwind romance that starts with a literal crash (yes, an animal is involved) and somehow only gets more chaotic, emotional, and addictive from there. Enter Brooks Keel: ex-con, biker-turned-cowboy, emotionally unavailable but devastatingly attractive. You already know the type… and yet, you’re still not prepared.
Poet, our FMC, is at a crossroads: freshly untethered from her old life and searching for something more. What she finds instead is Brooks… and let’s just say, that “something more” comes with complications, intensity, and a whole lot of emotional whiplash.
Now, let’s talk honestly.
This book moves fast. Like, blink-and-you-miss-it fast. The connection, the feelings, the stakes; it all escalates in what feels like a heartbeat. If you love a slow burn, this might test you. If you love messy, impulsive, all-consuming love? You’ll eat this up.
My biggest struggle was the single POV. I felt Poet’s emotions deeply, but I couldn’t help craving Brooks’ side of the story. He’s such a layered, guarded character that not being inside his head left me both intrigued and slightly disconnected. I wanted more of him: his thoughts, his conflict, his truth.
That said… Brooks Keel still delivers. The protective energy? The quiet intensity? The way he almost lets you in? Yeah, it works.
The virgin trope didn’t bother me here, and honestly, Brooks’ past adds a rough, imperfect edge that keeps the story grounded. It’s not polished romance: it’s messy, complicated, and at times frustratingly real.
And that ending?
Absolutely criminal.
Emma Slate knew exactly what she was doing, because now I’m emotionally invested and mildly betrayed and already counting down to book four.
A fast, emotional ride with a broody cowboy you won’t fully understand but won’t be able to forget either.
A huge thank you to Emma Slate for trusting me with an eARC of Prospector’s Peak. It was such a pleasure diving back into this world early, and I’m already eager to see what comes next. Make sure to mark your calendars: the book officially releases on April 1st, and you won’t want to miss the drama, the angst, and that jaw-dropping ending.
First and foremost, I want to thank Emma Slate for this opportunity to be on her ARC team.
Once again Emma Slate’s writing does not disappoint. Her characters become family and her plot lines reel you in; and there are a few different plot lines in this book.
Poet is from New York City and is friends with Hadley and Salem Powell. In a spur of the moment decision, she has quit her job and is heading, earlier than expected, to Huckleberry Hill in North Idaho. She meets Brooks Keel after her rental car goes into a ditch. Brooks works for the Powell’s at Elk Ridge.
Instant attraction. This book gives new meaning to the saying “Life is short” so when you know, you know and just go for it. Brooks and Poet make an absolutely adorable couple. It was great to have characters from “Tarnished Angels Motorcycle Club” series make an appearance as well. We meet, again for some readers, Archer (Bandit), Smoke and Logan. It turns out that Brooks is not only a cowboy but a biker and an ex-con. Brooks motorcycle club history drives Poet and him apart. Not even a surprise pregnancy keeps them together.
Into all this, Poet has decided to open a bookstore in Huckleberry Hill, she just requires financial backing. Wyn comes for a visit, a mountain lion makes an appearance as does a mine shaft and Grampy arrives from England. While I enjoy the solid friendship between Poet, Hadley, Salem and Wyn I thought Wyn could have made more of an effort while visiting. It seemed to be all about her which was a bit of a distraction from the other characters.
Will Poet and Brooks have their HEA? Will Poet accept Brooks (Ripper) past history in the club? Where will Wyn end up and with who? Is there something brewing between Muddy and Grampy?
While this book is a standalone, I would highly recommend reading the entire series. I cannot wait for the next book!
I received Prospectors Peak as an ARC in response for an honest review.
Book number 3 in the Saddles and Spurs book series and I’m already impatiently waiting for book number 4 following a group of 4 friends find their HEA’s.
What can I say, I couldn't put this book down. I stayed up too late reading, read some before work, on my lunch break and almost as soon as I walked through the door of an evening finishing it in just under 2 days. It’s just another Emma Slate book that didn’t disappoint. After briefly meeting Poet in previous books we finally get to read about her and what a story it is. This book has almost everything you need for a feel good book. It’s so well written, with a little bit of funny, a little bit of drama, a little bit of spice and one hell of a journey. Poet is the quieter friend of the group, the emotional, inexperienced, shy play it safe friend. On a whim she leaves her job, packs a bag and heads to her friends in Huckleberry Hill with nothing planned when she gets there and this is where her story blossoms and all because of her chance meeting with Brooks before she has even made it to town. Brooks, the older, ex-con, tattooed biker, cowboy. What more could anyone want!! He turns out to be the most swoony book boyfriend… Loyal, protective, generous and a little possessive. He has his own demons from his previous life but they play no part in his new life he has made for himself.
If you like a small town swoony cowboy romance then this book is definitely for your TBR list.
I can’t wait for Wyn’s installment. And would also love a little Novella spin off for Muddy and Gramps. Definitely something brewing there. Please please please, Emma write a little bit about Muddy - she needs her own story!!
Tropes: Age Gap Small Country Town Vibe/Ranch Surprise Pregnancy Cowboy Biker (Ex MC member) City Girl (New Yorker) Insta Love and full throttle romance Virgin FMC Friends and the family you choose.
Prospector’s Peak by Emma Slate is a falling-fast and all-consuming romance that hooks you from page one and never lets go.
Poet is soft yet fiery, courageous yet achingly relatable and I loved watching her come into her own—bold, confident and unapologetically embracing her life and desire. And Brooks… broody, magnetic and utterly intoxicating. His past forged him into a man who loves with raw intensity, protects with fierce loyalty and craves Poet like air. The chemistry? Every glance, every heated touch, every whispered word between them is electrifying, heart-pounding and utterly panty-melting. Poet’s sexual awakening is bold, uninhibited and incendiary—she’s not hesitating, not holding back, but falling headlong into passion as fiercely as Brooks claims her and it’s scorching, addictive and utterly swoon-worthy. With her, Brooks is tender, attentive and all-in—but still commanding, broody and dangerously irresistible.
There’s one pulse-pounding moment where everything shifts and it had my heart racing like wildfire.
Against the cozy charm of Huckleberry Hill with its meddling, lovable, unforgettable characters, every stolen kiss, all the heated gazes and the whispered desires feel tense, thrilling and utterly intoxicating.
Add in Poet, Hadley, Salem, and Wyn’s ride-or-die friendship and family moments with Muddy and Jack? Heartwarming, hilarious and swoon-inducing all at once.
The ending leaves you aching, desperate and craving more, and I cannot wait for Wyn’s story in Maple Mountain !
✨ Emma Slate delivers a heartfelt passionate addictive romance and characters who stay with you long after the last page. Her writing is sharp, captivating and deeply emotional—Brooks’ relentless desire, smoldering book-boyfriend energy and the way he worships and supports Poet make this a full-on, electrifying cowboy obsession that sears your soul.

On the way into town, she crashes her car and is rescued by Brooks, an ex-con and former MC member turned cowboy who works on her friends’ ranch. It quickly becomes impossible for them to stay away from each other, and within weeks they’re living together and talking about forever. But what happens when the past catches up just as two pink lines appear? Can they work through everything to build a future and a family together?
I was so excited for Poet’s story. She was abandoned by her parents, which made her a people pleaser who struggled to speak up for herself. Spending time in Huckleberry Hill, surrounded by its residents and Brooks, she slowly starts to fight for what she wants and really comes into her own. Brooks was perfect. Strong, steady, and only softens around her. He was exactly what Poet needed. The insta-love might feel fast to some, but it worked for them. They balanced each other really well. There’s about an 8 or 9 year age difference, but personally I don’t count anything under 10 years as a real age gap…not scandalous enough lol.
The spice was perfect. Since she was a virgin, it felt appropriate for her level of experience and the pacing of the story. It didn’t feel like anything was missing, but it also never felt like too much, which can sometimes happen.
Overall, I loved this book. Poet and Brooks were great, and I loved getting more of the Huckleberry Hill community. There is definitely something in that water though, because everyone seems to be unexpectedly pregnant haha. I do have to say, I think I only like Salem in her own book. Once we’re back in someone else’s POV, I find her a little insufferable again. But I loved her book (Lavender Lake). I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series, which will be Wyn’s story.
Thank you, Emma Slate, for the opportunity to read and review this ARC!
We are back in Huckleberry Hill and Emma has not disappointed with the next chapter. We have met Poet briefly in the previous book, friend of Salem and Hadley she has become disillusioned with city life and has quit her job. On the way to visit her two best friends and hopefully get some solace, she crashes her car only to be rescued by a dream in a cowboy hat. There is an instant pull between Poet and Brook, her rescuer, that is absolutely brilliant. Right from the first words these two have the best banter and the instant cocoon Brook wraps Poet in is one of those, "I wish I had that" moments. These two were not ready for the magnetic pull, Poet is an unsteady walking disaster, everything sounds good in her head but the reality is often brutal. Brook is pragmatic, gentle and sees the real woman behind the disaster. He has a past that he has overcome and he has found his person. The speed with which these two "fall" is the Huckleberry Hill magic at work again, it's got to be something in the water. These two quickly become each others bridge from a past they both want to forget, building a new reality for each of them. Brook seems to be able to read Poet like a book and is there to catch her every time she stumbles. We meet the amazing characters from the first book again and along side them Poet finds the strength to believe this quiet, gentle cowboy can be her world, just as she has brought hope and joy back to his. The quick visit from a couple of the Tarnished Angels, Emma's last series was most welcome. I can't wait for the next in the series, Wyn the 4th wheel in Poet's friendship group will hopefully find her Prince and maybe beneath the endless sky above Huckleberry Hill.
Prospector’s Peak is the latest in Emma Slate’s Saddles and Spurs series and this one brings some seriously fun tropes:
Small town Ex-con hero Virgin heroine Surprise pregnancy Found family
This story follows Poet, who leaves behind her New York life to spend some time in Huckleberry Hill. Her arrival doesn’t exactly go as planned when she quite literally ends up in a ditch and is rescued by MMC Brooks.
I really enjoyed the meet cute here. It was fun, a little chaotic, and a great introduction to Poet and Brooks’ easy initial connection. That said, while I know Huckleberry Hill leans into an instalove style, this one felt a bit underdeveloped for me in terms of character depth. I found myself wanting a little more from both Brooks and Poet.
Their dynamic was sweet, and Brooks’ protective, take-care personality definitely worked for me. I liked them together, I just wanted more time with them on page. A bit more backstory, a bit more emotional depth, and a stronger build to their relationship would have really elevated it for me.
There’s also a strong focus on the friend group, which I can appreciate (I love a supportive girl gang), but at times it felt like it pulled attention away from Poet and Brooks’ relationship. I also found myself a little lost with some of the side characters, likely because I haven’t read the second book in the series, so that’s something to keep in mind going in.
Overall, this was an easy, quick read that I enjoyed, even if I didn’t fully love it. It leaned a bit more Hallmark in tone than I personally prefer, but if you’re in the mood for something cozy, tropey, and easy to settle into, this could be a really enjoyable, feel-good read.
Poet thinks she's running from her life, escaping the doldrums of what was once her dream. Brooks is hiding from his past; his dreams more like nightmares.
First off: Did I know exactly what I was getting when I saw the Emma Slate ARC in my email? Sure. Did I devour every page, staying up way too late because I couldn't put it down? Abso-FREAKING-lutely!!
Emma knows how to write a single female POV story that feels complete. We're never in Brooks's head, but there's no denying we feel what he's feeling. The tension between these two was literally page turning, you don't realize it's truly a slow burn until the spice SPICES and suddenly, you see it.
I loved Poet. She's the friend who felt overlooked in the group even when she knew her girls loved her, supported her, and wanted the best for her. She's inexperienced but wise. She also makes sure that we (the readers) and Hadley/Salem are remembering our friends. She's who I like to think I am but should strive even more to be like.
Brooks is a new-ish character. We sort of know him from the Tarnished Angels series in like the tangential way. He embodies what the guys we loved for 8 books stood for: love your women hard, stand up for those who can't-- and do those things in any way necessary. Little things like laws didn't stop him from serving up justice. And that history is the one thing he can't share with Poet. She's pure-to him, for him, and with him. He never wants to (pardon my pun) tarnish her with his soiled past.
Of course Poet finds out. Don't we usually?!? Can he forgive himself for the weight he carries? And can she forgive him? Especially when she knows she's carrying her own secret?
I received this book as an ARC and i am very grateful. This book is amazing, it is the perfect addition to the first two book. I love the little crossover from Tarnished Angels also. Brooks is the perfect man for Poet. I love the fact that Brooks is so protective of Poet from the time he meets her. Poet is a city girl with little to no experience with men, Brooks is an ex-con, ex-biker with a past who has completely changed his way of living after getting out of prison. When Brooks rescues Poet from a ditch on the side of the road its love a first sight for Brooks. It takes Poet just a little longer, but not much, for fall in love with Brooks. Salem and Hadley give Poet a bit of a hard time about her falling for Brooks, they worry about her being naive due to her Lack of experience.. But she let's them know exactly how she feels about that. Muddy on the other hand knows that Brooks is perfect for Poet. Muddy is the first to know that Poet is pregnant, ( as usual ) Poet has a bit of a scare when she learns the truth about Brooks past, She is not sure that she really know the man who she is about to have a baby with, But then Brooks brother Archer fills her in on some things and she regrets the way she behaved. She goes out to Prospectors Peak to clear her mind. There is where she runs into trouble, including a mountain lion. Brooks finds her down inside a mineshaft. Once Poet is safe and her and Brooks are back home she opens up and they reconcile. Brooks could not be happier that Poet is pregnant. There is definitely something in the air in Huckleberry Hill. That place is magical and gives you what you need. It gives Poet the strength to go after what she wants and that's not just Brooks.

Prospector’s Peak jumps right into the instant attraction between two strangers and fully leans into the idea of “when you know, you know.” It embraces that reminder that life is too short not to be with the people you love and it doesn’t hold back on that message.
Brooks, Brooks, Brooks... Before meeting Poet, he was just going through the motions: living life, but not truly living. After she comes into his world, everything shifts. It’s like the sun finally breaks through, where there was once darkness, there’s now color, warmth, and purpose. That transformation makes their connection feel meaningful, even with how quickly it develops.
I also loved the little details in their relationship, his nickname for Poet, Freckles, was so cute, and when she first calls him Beanstalk, the banter that follows is genuinely adorable. Those moments really bring their dynamic to life and make their connection feel fun and authentic.
And the swoon factor… wow. Brooks absolutely delivers with lines like: “Marry me because you love me. Marry me because you want my last name and my babies. Marry me because you can't breathe without me. Because I can't breathe without you, Poet.” ❤️ That moment alone was enough to seal it for me.
This is probably my favorite in the series so far. And you can’t forget Muddy! She’s a hoot in every book and always brings a little extra charm to the story. I can’t help but wonder… could there be a little something something brewing between Muddy and Grampy?! 👀
What can I say that I haven’t already said a million times?! I love these books! This book is #3 in the Saddle & Spurs series, where we first followed twin sisters Hadley and Salem, and now are following the rest of their girl tribe starting with Poet!
The story starts out with Poet ending up in Huckleberry Hill jobless, homeless, and penniless. What else could go wrong?? Enter car in ditch. But queue in the tatted cowboy-biker to save the day!
I loved how they had instant chemistry, and how open Poet was to exploring this connection. While Poet was trying to find footing and piece her life back together, Brooks was trying to create a fresh start. I loved that Brooks had a dark past. He is so supportive and takes such good care of Poet, and in return, she is the light to his darkness and brings him back to life.
They had a lot to work through (especially his ex-con past) but they grew so much and figured out a lot about themselves in the process. Poet knew from the start that he was her person, offering him something she never had with anyone else.
There is so much love, found family, hilarious banter, and passion in these stories. And MUDDY! She is by far my favorite character in this series. That woman and her witchy ways 🤣. And adding the new addition with Lottie tied this one up in a perfect bow. I cannot wait to see what happens with Wyn!! And maybe some love for Muddy???
If you love: 🐷 Surprise pregnancy 🐷 Small town romance 🐷 Possessive cowboys 🐷 Found family 🐷 Ride or die girl tribe
Thank you Emma for allowing me to be one of the ARC readers for Prospector's Peak! I absolutely love the Sandles & Spurs series, just as much as I loved the Tarnished Angels series.
Rate: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶🌶.5 Tropes: insta love, surprise pregnancy, protective MC, found family
Each story in this series just keeps getting better and better! The deep friendship between Hadley, Salem, Poet, and Wyn is something I think we all hope we find one day. To have those people who truly know you mind, body, and soul. And watching them find love in their other halves has been a Rollercoaster to say the least.
I worried about Poet. She has always been the more soft spoken and level headed of the 4. So seeing her finally quit her job and high tail it out of New York was shocking, but in the best way. Seeing her finally find her courage had me throwing my hands in the air.
Brooks. Oh Brooks. It absolutely HAD to be him and I believe that down to my bones. Poet needed someone totally unlike her to finally pull her out of her fear. The way he took care of her while still supporting her desire for independence was perfection. He's just a big, ex-con, teddy bear.
They are perfect for eachother in a "I wouldn't have guessed it, but I totally see it now" kind of way. There was just no way she wasn't going to end this book pregnant, but she and Brooks will be the best parents. I'm so glad Grampy is going to be there as well, I know how badly Poet needs him.
I can't wait till August when Maple Mountain comes out and we can continue the journey!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ARC Review — Prospector's Peak ~Saddles & Spurs Book 3 by Emma Slate
This series just keeps getting better… and somehow this one is my favorite so far. I absolutely loved Hadley’s story in Huckleberry Hill and Salem’s in Lavender Lake, but Poet and Brooks?! OMG. LOVED. Their story completely stole my heart. Poet (aka freckles 🥹) has been such a special character throughout the series, so getting her story felt extra meaningful. And Brooks… there is just something about him. The depth, the emotion, the way his story unfolds—it pulled me in immediately and did not let go. Their connection felt so real, so emotional, and so easy to root for. This one hit deeper for me in all the best ways. And can we talk about the town for a second? The small-town vibes are EVERYTHING. At this point, I’m fully convinced I need to pack my bags and move to Huckleberry Hill. The friendships, the family, the sisterhood—it just keeps growing and getting stronger with every book. Seeing all the familiar faces again made this feel like coming home. Emma Slate continues to balance romance, heart, humor, and emotional depth so effortlessly. Every book adds more layers to this world and these characters, and I am so invested. Also… while I (impatiently) wait for Maple Mountain, Book 4. I’m diving into Tarnished Angels because I NEED more of Brooks and Archer’s backstory. My curiosity is officially out of control. If you’ve been following this series, just know—it only gets better. And this one? Absolutely unforgettable.
Thank you to the author and publisher for providing me with an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Prospectors Peak picks up exactly where we were left in the epilogue with Poet, and I absolutely loved how seamless that transition felt. It immediately pulled me back into the story, like reconnecting with an old friend.
The beginning was such a highlight for me—the witty banter between Poet and Brooks was sharp, natural, and genuinely entertaining. Their dynamic carried so much charm, and it made their connection feel authentic right from the start. As the story progressed, the character development really stood out. Both Poet and Brooks were given space to grow, and I appreciated how layered and real they felt by the end.
One of the most compelling aspects was learning more about Brooks’ past, especially the truth behind why he was in prison. That added depth to his character in a meaningful way and reinforced what becomes so clear throughout the story—he’s a good man with a genuinely good heart. Watching that unfold made his journey even more impactful.
And that ending… Lottie completely stole my heart. A little house pig to wrap everything up? It was such a warm, wholesome touch that left me smiling long after I finished the book.
Overall, this was a heartfelt and engaging read with strong character work, emotional depth, and just the right amount of humor and warmth. Definitely one I’d recommend.
Can’t wait to read about Wyns adventure next!

Every time I think it can’t get better it does! I’ve read almost all Emma Slate books and I can say that the Saddles and Spurs series is my all time favourite. Cowboy bikers who are obsessed with their ladies, sign me up any day of the week! I’ve been looking forward to Poets book from the beginning of the series and I will tell you it absolutely did not disappoint. While insta-love is not one of my favourite tropes it feels so real and possible in this series. Poet and Brooks are two halves to a perfect whole. Each one being what the other one needs. I love that even when things are hard they talk it over together, you can read how much they love and respect each other which is all anyone really needs. As always Muddy is everyone’s favourite and she still seems to know everything. 💕
Hot cowboys who love acts of service. Amazing found family. Unusual house pets. Weirdly sweet nicknames iykyk.
If any of those speak to you definitely give this series a chance! And if you’re still not sure I read all three books in this series in one day. They really are that good that I didn’t want to put them down. I just had to know what was going to happen next! It’s crazy the books not out yet but I still can’t wait for the next part of the series hopefully we get to see Wyn find her happiness too!
HEA, no OWD, no third act break-up, insta-love, found family, small town.
“Because you can’t breathe without me. Because I can’t breathe without you”
I could honestly cry writing this review because getting chosen as an ARC reader for this book meant so much to me! Thank you so much to Emma Slate for the opportunity!
This was a 4 star read for me, and I absolutely loved Poet. Out of everyone in this series, I think I related to her the most. She’s shy and a little timid at first, but once she meets Brooks and feels safe, you really see her start to come out of her shell and I loved that growth so much.
And Brooks! He was so patient and steady with her, which made their relationship even better. I will say (and I will die on this hill 😂) I really wish we had his POV. I just feel like we’re missing so much depth without it especially with his background in the MC and everything he went through in prison. That could have added so much to the story.
I know insta-love isn’t for everyone, but honestly? I don’t mind it at all. Sometimes it’s nice to just get straight to the love and watch it unfold without all the back and forth. Same with the surprise pregnancy trope I know it’s not everyone’s favorite, but I actually love that it’s a theme in this series. It just works for me!
Also can I please just move to the Ridge already? 😭 This series has fully convinced me I belong on a ranch somewhere.
And Muddy?? ICONIC. She adds so much life and humor to every scene she’s in.
I cannot wait for Wyn’s story next I’m already hoping (and guessing 👀) it’s going to be her and Archer!
Tropes: 👉 Accidental Pregnancy 👉 Age Gap 👉 Small Town
TWs 😟: mentions of past violence, FMC gets lost in the woods
Main Takeaway 🏹: Emma Slate knocks another one out of the park!

But then the truth about Brooks’ MC past is revealed, and my world explodes.
And now I don’t recognize the man I fell in love with.
I don’t recognize my baby’s father.
Personal Thoughts 🤔: I think Emma Slate has access to my brain because this book hit all my favorite tropes! Poet is relatable and there were so many points in the story where I felt like she was me. Brooks is swoony and the perfect match to Poet’s nature. Muddy continues to fascinate me with her witchy, all-knowing ways but I’ve always been a fan of a quirky grandma as a side character! I am so excited for Wyn’s book but not for this series to end! Especially after tha cliffhanger!!
Oh my God, I love it so much! Poet finally got her happily ever after with a biker cowboy, who saw that one coming?! God bless her she wears her heart her sleeve and she was trying to figure out her life. Quitting her job and moving to Huckleberry Hill was the best thing that ever happened. The meet cute with Brooks was an absolute perfection. I absolutely laughed hysterically through the first chapter of this book. They are so perfect for each other it is not even funny. There were sparks from the first sighting. He brings out the different side to her and she’s sassy speaks her mind, and I love it so much. And she brings out a completely different side to him. I love that we get to learn so much about Brooks right along with her. All I got to say is once a biker always a biker. And that is a beautiful thing because all those tendencies and characteristics that we love are still there going strong simmering under the surface. Watching them banter and interact is magical. I love watching them fall in love and then of course you get the rest of the gang with her best friends and their husbands, and of course, Muddy, the rest of the town, it’s never a dull moment. I love how she finds her way in this new life that she’s creating for herself. I’m so proud of her for picking up and moving across country and finding this new life for herself you go girl. I’m so happy that she found Brooks because they are soulmates, they are meant to be together.
OMG, every time I think @emmaslateauthor can’t possibly top the book before… she goes and does it again!! I have loved every book in Huckleberry Hill series, but this one is now the fave!!
From the Meet Cute of Brooks finding Poet in the ditch, to the instant chemistry, love and adoration, to the way Brooks Found himself and the man he wants to be, to Poet finding her true passion and purpose, Grampy and then Lottie!
There were too many moments that I loved and want to gush about, but I will hold myself from spoiling anything!
But I’m going to say this now… possible spoiler… but did I just read some chemistry between Muddy and Jack??
This book had it all!! And as always, I screamed with joy when we get a cameo from the MC series!!
I cannot wait to go back to Huckleberry Hill for book 4, Maple Mountain! Wyn’s story will be full of trauma, finding herself and letting a man love her the way she deserves to be loved!
I cannot wait to see a moment of Lottie, Fig, Tempest and Milli all in the yard together while our leading ladies sit around the campfire and hold their babies/bellies.
That Hot Springs really is Magic and I cannot wait barely wait to go back in August!
5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1 chili pepper 🌶️ There was spice! But not overly described ;-)
Thank you @emmaslateauthor for an ARC of this book for my honest review
