How to Succeed in Monster Farming #3

How to Succeed in Monster Farming After Getting Rejected by the Hero Guild Volume 3: A Monster Ranching LitRPG

A ticking clock. A dying world. One man’s impossible promise.

Nick wanted peace, just a quiet farm, a thriving crew, and a future with Syllia. But when dimensional contagion strikes, infecting her and everyone who’s lived too close to his cursed reality, peace dies screaming.

Now, with only forty-seven days before Syllia dies, Nick must race across collapsing worlds to gather the five components of a Reality Anchor, a mythical cure said to stabilize existence itself. Every step brings him deeper into the heart of the invasion consuming their realm. Every victory saves strangers he never meant to save. Every day costs him a piece of himself.

He doesn’t care about destiny.
He doesn’t care about heroism.
He just wants her back.

As dimensions rot and time unravels, Nick’s desperate quest will decide not only Syllia’s fate, but whether reality itself can survive the infection spreading through creation.

Because sometimes saving one person means saving everything.

Nice. Full on countdown reckless rush with sacrificial plans. Still focused on the curse transformation and shocking everyone. Each time he struggled I thought why don't you just punch it. Still, the saving was a better option. Best of the three.

I was going to give four stars because the story was actually quite engaging, but not only it had issues from the previous books, it also had new ones.
The repetition kept on keeping on in the third installment. It felt like the author kept copying his own writing (assuming no IA generated writing was at work) to fill his chapters. The MC apparently suffers from early-onset alzheimer because he completely forgot he could punch things with absurd force untill the third chain of the quest, and when he did he was SHOCKED. "Oh my GOD what do you mean I just meant to shoo the predator and he exploded in a million pieces? That had NEVER happened, not even with the bajillion times stronger and godly enhanced champion from the second book".
If that was all, it would've been bad enough, but the inconsistencies are crazy. Previously Nimbus had one horn and that was quite well established, then in this one he's got two. Are we supposed to assume he grew a new one? Which is a whole problem in of itself, many things happen where you're just supposed to assume.
Now I'm not well versed in Old english but it seemed to me my guy Lancelot was constantly alternating between Old english and common english.
Another jarring inconsistency was Syllia, who had golden hair and blue eyes but suddenly in this book has silver hair and amber eyes, which are quite contrasting features. Come on, can a guy enjoy a well written book or is that too much to ask?

Wow! After a parasitical infection struck Blackthorn farm. The system gives Nick an impossible quest line to conquer, Find five items and get it done in 47 days or 23 people would die. Not just people, Nick's people! And that would be unconscionable! And time is definitely not on Nick's side! So with three allies at his side, they take off running, well flying on their ride on Petunia, the resident Dragon! Yeah, Nick, Sir lancelot, Nimbus and Petunia discover their farm wasn’t the only place the infection hit! All 5 locations were corrupted by the same parasite!
I'm not quite sure if this is the final book or not but I am positive that you don't wanna miss reading or listening to the book!

Here's a quote:

This book took a complete tangent from the rest of the series, dedicating itself entirely to a traditional, old-school game format where the hero faces incrementally harder challenges to achieve their goal.

I had several issues with the series prior to this, but I held on because I enjoyed the fun tone, the interpersonal relationships, and the agricultural and economic growth of both the farm and the characters. This new direction completely strips those elements away, leaving you with a rapidly changing cast, stat increases that feel pointless, and an overused, predictable structure that I found thoroughly unenjoyable.

I made it halfway through before realizing I was wasting my time persevering with a book I wasn't enjoying. The fun, lighthearted feeling that made the story so appealing was entirely lost.

Very different than first two books

Still gave it three stars because it's a well written book. But this book starts with a crisis and is one long angst quest. None of the farm building, community economics, crazy monster ranching and all the other things that made the first two books great are in this book. Definitely preferred the first two.

I'm not crying, you're crying

Impossible quest, people in danger, horrible plots abound, hazy NPCs, neglectful not a hero are the major points, but many of the minor points are better. An amazing adventure 👏

Amusing

Amusing arc that managed a new direction to keep the freshness of the story going. Well written and a fun read.

Great Story .

The hero was not someone who experienced heroism, but Someone he who wanted to save others. A very good story.

Hero

Really enjoyed all three books. A very satisfying ending. Nicholas may not have been the hero they wanted, but turns out he was the hero they needed.
