Officer Down' part 8, continued from DETECTIVE COMICS #754, and the conclusion to a shocking storyline spanning multiple Bat-related titles! James Gordon faces his final destiny and Batman must accept the possible loss of a valued comrade, and a life that never will be quite the same.
Greg Rucka, is an American comic book writer and novelist, known for his work on such comics as Action Comics, Batwoman: Detective Comics, and the miniseries Superman: World of New Krypton for DC Comics, and for novels such as his Queen & Country series.
Rather than the "Pow! Zap!" of ye olde comics, this heavier-toned drama follows Commissioner Gordon and the results of his stepping down. Even without the barrage of action, there's a mature story to be told, a reflective one, and not just about Batman being mopey. Excellent character development chapter to move the plot to a changing of the guard, or so it seems. I guess next issue, I'll find out for sure.
Black & White was also less zippy, more on the detective side, as it ends in a clever twist.
It feels weird that Batman would be angry at Jim for retiring. Jim is in the right for being upset about having to explain himself when Batman never has. They do have a good talk by the end, at least. This was so status quo changing, but I'm pretty sure it gets undone later. Also interesting seeing Bullock be the voice of reason for Montoya in this instance.
