2.5 stars ⭐️ It was okay. I had a HARD time trying to like the h in this book (possible spoilers ahead) and I thought it needed a more detailed ending.
Also, I’m not a fan of characters (even minor) dying in romance books…but that’s a ME thing

h is a spoiled brat. She spends all her time partying, getting drunk, and traveling with her BFF. She also likes men. She is a party girl. She drinks a LOT.

Her trauma is she has daddy issues and she doesn’t like her grandpa. Her daddy was a dead beat and basically left h with her mom. Grandpa stepped in when she was a teen and took over, and then sent h to boarding school. 🤷‍♀️ Mom died when h was 16. h is grandpa’s ONLY heir.
h LOVES to spend grandpa’s money but she has zero relationship with grandpa. She hates him.

Grandpa is very sick. Grandpa owns half a company with H’s grandpa.
Grandpa wants h to marry H. If they marry, H will finally become CEO (which he’s always wanted) and h will be free to continue being lazy and spending money. 😡 Also, grandpa wants them to have a baby.
Grandpa cuts off h’s access to any money, so naturally she has to come back and agree to all this. She decides she’s going to make her new husband’s life- hell 🥴

Let’s just say H and h are like Fire and Water. H is a typical rich CEO. He’s worked hard since he was 16, taking care of his mom and sisters. He’s a workaholic. He wants that CEO position so he agrees to the marriage. Theres another guy, Thomas, who also wants to be CEO.

h will continue to embarrass/fight H every.step.of.the.way. She shows up in a dress with flamingos on them. Wears skimpy bikinis or just inappropriate clothing. Says embarrassing things. She even wore a sequined bell bottomed bodysuit to a kid’s birthday party. At some point, I thought she would grow up a little, but nope! She’s like that throughout the whole book. It becomes a running joke that h likes to sleep in until 2pm everyday. Huh? Why is this woman not doing anything with her life? (then I’m like… FINE. It just means her character arc and her self reflection is coming up 😬 (BIG SPOILER ALERT- NOPE)

At one point, H has to go into a club and basically pull h off another man because she’s so drunk. 🥴

The MCs get married. h’s big secret- she won’t tell him she’s still taking birth control. H’s big secret- he won’t tell her that she didn’t have to marry him to get money.

*side note*
H’s grandpa happens to be a very nice guy. He came to H before the wedding and said they didn’t have to go through with the wedding. He would sell his shares and give everybody money. By this time, H knew he *wanted* h 🙄 so he didn’t tell her.

They were NOT going to have smex. They both decided to use IVF. There’s some pointless stuff about a shady IVF clinic……but it’s all pointless because h decided she wanted to have smex with him. She just wasn’t going to tell him she’s still taking birth control. JFC 😬😬🤦‍♀️
So they would have smex once a month. He would be cold to her afterwards. But we know from his POV, he had feelings for her. It’s all very bizarre.

h’s grandpa dies.
The secrets are revealed- boom- 3rd act breakup.
H tries to grovel, h won’t listen. H’s grandpa sold his shares and gave everybody money, even h. H resigned and now Thomas is CEO. Wut?
The divorce papers are signed. It’s over.
A friend finally makes h see the light. She goes to H and all is forgiven. They start over. 6 months later, he proposes again.
All we know is both MCs are traveling.

It was such a lackluster ending.
So….the MCs are doing nothing with their lives now except traveling?
(The author did have a link at the end to get updates, but I hate doing that. Tell me in the book, please. It would literally only take a paragraph or two to give an update)

I never liked h. The longer the book went on, the more annoying she got. The author really missed a great opportunity to give this h a great redemption arc.
It’s not very often where you read about heroines just being lazy and doing absolutely zero with their life/money. Usually if they start out that way, by the end, they are doing something amazing. 🤷‍♀️

H was an okay character but I really disliked his weird obsession he had going on over his little sister’s dating life.

Now saying all that, I’d probably still read book 2.

Mouthy Princess is the first book in the Hard to Love series. Pope Langston has always wanted to be the next CEO of his grandfather’s company. He has always had to prove himself to his grandfather and his partner. He’s been working there for well over a decade. The day an announcement for the partner’s shares is made, he believes he will not be the next CEO. So he decides to talk to the partner and they strike a deal. He marries his grand daughter and provides an heir, and only then will he will get the shares to take over the company. Pope does not care who he has to marry. He has been waiting for this a long time. He will marry this girl and have an heir. He sees it as a business contract. All he wants is the company but he was not expecting the chaos that is Olivia Evans.

Olivia likes her independence. She likes shopping and going out with her best friend. That’s all gonna change when her grandfather threatens to cut her off. She has to marry Pope and provide him with a child. She won’t make it easy on him though. The minute she meets him, she hates him. It is a shame he is attractive. She decides to find a way to get her inheritance without getting married. Maybe if she drives him so crazy, he will refuse to get married. So she will play by his rules while making some of her own in the process.

Valeria Heights had me cracking up so much. The banter between Olivia and Pope is hilarious. I loved the side characters. I did feel bad for Olivia because she is forced to marry a total stranger. This isn’t what she wanted and driving Pope crazy starts making her feel something for him. It was nice to see Pope is not as cold as he seems. He’s just keeping his distance because if feelings are involved, it will complicate things. Their chemistry was great and having Olivia in his life made him open up more. Their scenes were hot and I loved seeing them together. I was rooting for them the whole time. Filled with hateful banter, heat, drama, and humor, it is a very fun and entertaining yet emotional read. I’m so excited there is another book.

Not sure how you can like a book when you dislike a character intensely. Not just any character, but the main female character. She’s nasty. She’s an alcoholic, and as far as I can tell, she has zero redeeming qualities and she certainly didn’t get better in the time I was reading, but I gave up pretty quickly. If you want to read vomit details and I mean details about what vomit looks like maybe this is the book for you. It certainly was not for me.

Olivia and Pope

Polar opposites forced together by business and family. Fighting against it initially, they were both changed as they realized what was really important in life. First time read with this author, but I will definitely try more.
