“A Dangerous Man” pulled me in right away—the story is so riveting! I found myself immediately immersed, and felt I was experiencing everything right alongside the characters. Engel is an excellent writer, and the detail he put into absolutely every part of this tale of violence and revenge is phenomenal.

Some of my favorite parts in this book are the fights scenes—every small detail is included (down to the weapons used) and these scenes read just like fight scenes in a movie! All of the characters are also written very realistically (as is the dialogue), enabling you to connect with each and see the world through their viewpoint, good or bad.

The ending scene is excellent, and I found myself holding my breath just waiting for what was going to happen—and boy, it's a kicker.

If you want a dark, thrilling story where you are rooting for a kick-ass vigilante who exacts glorious revenge on evil incarnate, then this is the book for you!

This hits the ground running. It is relentless from the first chapter to the last and there is rarely a dull moment. Some of the writing is dense but the action more than makes up for it, and, while the subject matter is dark as hell, I ended up having a good time reading it. It is plot-heavy and you all know how I prefer character over plot so it gets taken down a peg for that. But that’s not the author’s fault nor the book’s. They can’t make everyone happy, right? This is bonkers, brutal, bleak, but brilliant as well.

A Dark Masterpiece that should be required reading for all adults

J.L. Engel’s breakout novel is everything we need in this modern age dominated by fake news and suppression of the truth, especially those truths that are difficult to digest.

A Dangerous Man is gritty, bone-chillingly honest and savagely beautiful in all the right ways. J.L. Is unapologetic in his illumination of the darkest parts of human trafficking. He has directed his energy to expose Pure Evil that the media refuses to shine a light on. J.L. spotlights these crimes against humanity far better than journalists who downplay or flat out ignore the fastest growing black market trade in the world. And unfortunately, Americans are major contributors to crimes against children, as we see unfold throughout ADM. Even the most trusted among us are guilty: those in law enforcement who are supposed to protect the public.

The world of A Dangerous Man is a setting that (unfortunately for us) mirrors reality. I can’t even imagine the hours of research that went into this novel to create such a realistic world for Ghost to set on fire during his rampage of justified vengeance. J.L. Reveals a tough pill to swallow: The only person willing to do the right thing and exact justice for victims is a badass, merciless vigilante who has learned first hand that the legal system isn’t enough to combat Pure Evil. For Ghost, evil must be meant with his own dose of evil. Our hero walks a tightrope of morality, and I can’t help but love him for it. Sometimes it takes a hero dressed as a villain to annihilate crime syndicates. Especially those syndicates that grow like invasive weeds to infiltrate the highest echelons of Law and Order to commit heinous crimes against men, women and the most vulnerable among us: children.

The wolves of the world better beware—Ghost is waiting in the shadows to skin them alive.

J.L. Is a visionary and I couldn’t be more thankful that he chose this topic to explore in his first novel. I can only hope he’s already working on his next masterpiece!

This superb and powerful novel is utterly relentless in its brutal and thrilling action from start to finish: one of those reads that literally has your adrenalin pumping. I loved every moment reading it and was again stunned by the quality of storytelling by an indie author who I hadn’t read before.
Mr Engel confronts the reality of organized crime and police-cum-government corruption without fear or restraint, and I know from my own experience he does so in a way that would make the Establishment squirm with severe discomfort: they can’t handle the truth, to borrow a great line.
This is a classic tale of vengeance, with our protagonist, Ghost, having lost everyone he loved and cared about. And he is a consummate expert in the arts of violence and killing. Not that you’re going to feel sorry for anyone he deals with and dispatches from this world, because they all deserve their fates. There’s a deeply visceral enjoyment as the reader as you witness the scum being eradicated, and the scenes are not for the faint-hearted. But, damn, they are so well written.
Being ex-law enforcement myself, I thoroughly enjoyed, albeit with a twinge of bitter experience, the depiction of decent cops versus corrupt cops. Mr Engel has that subject nailed to a fine point, and his ability to paint the harsh ethical realities is one of the highlights of his writing. He also vividly depicts the nature of power, predators and prey in human society. This is a tale with suffering and tragedy underpinning everything and the blunt reality of this is starkly presented.
Aside from master storytelling, Mr Engel can sure as hell draw memorable characters as well. I was on team empathy with the main man, Ghost, from the start, and then with his reluctant detective sidekick, McCrary. The Russian mob boss, and his son, are perfectly drawn as the ruthless, narcissistic monsters they are, and so typical of organized crime. But the real treat in terms of unforgettable characterization were the psychopathic twin contract killers. As despicable and horrifying as they were, the brilliance of their depiction left me with a fascination for them, although one that required a bottle of sanitizer afterwards.
Mr Engel, you are a hell of writer and you epitomize the value of indie writing that transcends the routine and bland offerings of mainstream publishing these days. I look forward to a lot more of your fine work.

Sometimes you get in the mood for a little suspense, and there's no better way to scratch that itch than with a killer book—literally. Thrillers and mysteries never fail to get your heart pumping, making you turn the page at warp speed while also delivering an oddly satisfying uneasiness about what's to come. Naturally, these gripping domestic and psychological thrillers make for excellent beach reads or poolside companions. One of such book I completed recently and its called "A Dangerous Man".
The title created the whole mysterious vibe from the point I saw it, it was the cover and description which added to the vibe. The description plays a vital role as it makes the reader realise what is he signing up for, for me personally the description was a suspensful one which made me hungry to read the book. Im simple words the description bridged the gap between wanting to read the book and actually reading the book.
When I started reading"A Dangerous Man", I was surprised by how different it was compared to the books from same genre. Usually the books have a very dark and violent stories with very, very disturbed characters. But in this book the dark macabre tendency that dominates author's writing contrasts. The story is basically about a man who has lost it all. When a man is described as such I feel that's where vengence kicks in, same happened. It is a gripping story filled with thriller and mystery. While it feels a bit off referring to this deeply deranged book as a "fun read", that's exactly what I'm gonna call it. Because for the time spent reading, this book entirely owned me. My focus, my world, my thoughts, were swept away by these insanely unrivaled characters and the darkness of their story. And the suspense of it all left me in a constant state of guessing — straight to its twisted end. This one is a thumbs up from my side and I personally recommend it to the readers.

This is a big, brutal thriller, much like its protagonist, Ghost, the dangerous man of the title. From the tense opening in a Boston warehouse, to the final bullet-strewn showdown, the action doesn’t let up, as Ghost cuts a swathe through a human trafficking syndicate on his mission of justice and revenge.

The shoot outs and scenes of hand to hand combat are exciting and intense, and Engel writes in detailed, muscular prose that makes the reader feel every strike and impact. Ghost is a highly skilled and capable man, and it’s not long before the head of the crime syndicate recruits a pair of equally skilled (and highly psychopathic) twins to track him down. The scenes between Ghost and the twins are some of the best in the book, and Engel has created two memorable opponents to test his hero to his limits.

The action is underpinned by fully realised characters, each with their own histories and motivations that are slowly revealed as the story progresses. Ghost is more than just a lethal weapon, and Engel reveals enough glimpses of his past life as a family man to show the beating heart underneath the body armour.

There are some sombre and heart-rending moments, and the book doesn’t shy away from portraying the dark reality of a heinous crime that is rarely reported on, and even less so the topic of an action thriller.

The set-pieces and cinematic prose make this a perfect novel to be filmed, either on the big screen or in a limited television series format. If Cinemax were still making shows like Banshee or Strike Back, this would be a perfect fit.

A Dangerous Man is Don Pendleton’s Mack Bolan series for the modern age, and I’m looking forward to seeing where Engel takes the story when Ghost returns. If you like the Bolan books or Garth Ennis’s Punisher Max run, you’ll love this. Highly recommended.

📕Book Review – "A Dangerous Man (Vindicta Spectri Series Book 1)" by J. L. Engel ✍🏻😊

A Dangerous Man is a dark, intense, and emotionally charged thriller that grabs you from the first page and refuses to let go. J. L. Engel introduces readers to a complex anti-hero, a former government operative whose life was shattered by a ruthless Russian crime syndicate. What follows is a relentless crusade of vengeance that cuts across the United States, freeing trafficking victims while leaving devastation in its wake.

What makes this novel stand out is its moral tension. The protagonist is not a traditional hero; he is driven by grief, rage, and a deeply personal sense of justice. Engel does an excellent job of forcing readers to question where justice ends and brutality begins. The multiple perspectives—an obsessive FBI agent, a skeptical detective, and deadly twin assassins - add layers of suspense and keep the pacing sharp and unpredictable.

The action is fast, brutal, and cinematic, but the emotional weight behind every decision gives the story real depth. A Dangerous Man explores loss, loyalty, and the true cost of revenge. It’s a powerful opening to the Vindicta Spectri series and a must-read for fans of gritty, high-stakes thrillers.

The setting for the novel is Boston, where Ana Stewart, a young girl between seven and nine years old, calls 911 from a closed closet with the sound of gunfire in the background. Regina, the emergency operator, persistently tries to communicate with Ana and finally succeeds in getting her to talk. Ana reveals that a man had instructed her to remain silent and wait in the closet. The firing ceases, and the unknown man returns to provide Regina with the address for Ana's rescue. Upon arriving at the location, the SWAT team discovers a large number of fatalities. They proceed with caution, and in addition to Ana, they rescue many other victims of human trafficking. The media is in a frenzy to discover the identity of the mysterious man who had played a pivotal role in the situation. Read the book to uncover what unfolds next.

The book cover's classy and intense design sets the tone for what promises to be an enthralling read. The title aptly captures the essence of the crime, thriller, and mystery genres that the book belongs to.

The author's meticulous attention to detail while describing the scenarios ensures that the book remains engaging and compelling throughout. Must Read.

Wow! What an amazing debut novel! I could not put this book down, it completely captivated me, I was wanting to know what would happen next, I was afraid with him, for what would happen next!! I think I finished it around 3:00 a.m. And I'm a bear for my sleep, so I know it was amazing.

I must have read this gripping book at least 3 times. This thriller, with it's suspense, twists and turns, as it moves towards the finish, is brilliant, and will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.

It is entirely plot-driven, but what a plot it is. I can't really review the plot because I wouldn't spoil this for anyone, so all I will say about it is that it will literally keep your heart hammering until you turn that last page!

I think the characterisation is flawless and the story is told brilliantly. Ok, I did start to work out where it was leading towards the end, but this didn't prevent me from burning the midnight oil to get there. A great read and thoroughly recommended!!

📚A young girl named Ana Stewart makes a call to 911 from a closed closet in Boston. Gunfire can be heard in the background as the emergency operator, Regina, tries to get Ana to speak. Eventually, Ana tells Regina that a man told her to stay quiet and wait in the closet. When the gunfire stops, the man comes back and gives Regina the address to rescue Ana. The SWAT team arrives and finds numerous dead bodies, but they also manage to rescue Ana and other victims of human trafficking. The media is abuzz with speculation about the mysterious man who saved so many lives and handled the situation. To find out what happens next, get your hands on a copy of the novel.

📚The cover of the book exudes an aura of class and intensity, foreshadowing an immersive and gripping read. The title perfectly complements the tone of the book, which belongs to the crime, thriller, and mystery genres. The author's expertise in vividly describing the scenarios adds to the liveliness of the book, ensuring an engrossing experience for the readers.

I haven't read a book that had me thinking about it all day, every day in a long time. I couldn't wait for my lunch break at work so I could read it, I couldn't wait to get home so I could read it. Engel has done a great Job with what is his debut novel. Original, well paced and at times downright unnerving l

Reading this book was like trying to crack the da Vinci code. It was impossible to guess who did it and what their motives were. Halfway through it was impossible to put it down. About 70% in it I felt like I had all the answers. There where still some insignificant questions unanswered, but I thought it was ok. It wasn't that important. But then I thought "I still have 30% to go. What now?"

Then, the whole hell broke loose and I realized that I didn't know even half of the story. I never saw it coming. The ending was brutal, but brilliant. It was a total page turner. Disturbing but amazing story. I can't wait to read the next book from this author!!

"A Dangerous Man" by J.L. Engel recounts the tale of a man who was formerly a father, a husband, and a government agent, but tragically lost everything he cherished to a merciless Russian criminal syndicate.

Despite the author's aim to provide readers with a thrilling and captivating adventure that enables them to temporarily forget reality, the story also exposes a disturbing truth.

The book was an exhilarating rollercoaster, taking me on a journey filled with unexpected surprises and a range of intense emotions.

It had everything from heart-racing action to heart-breaking drama and emotional scenes that brought tears to my eyes.

I was fully immersed in the story and found it difficult to stop reading until the very end.

The title and cover perfectly captured the essence of the plot, and the author's excellent storytelling and creative imagination made for an incredibly satisfying reading experience. Must Read!!!

The author's exceptional writing skills kept me completely captivated from the first paragraph of the book.

I was unable to put it down and found myself engrossed in the intricate details of the story. Every aspect was given attention, leaving no loose ends, and making the reading experience enthralling.

The existence of human trafficking cannot be ignored as it is a harsh reality of our times. This repugnant disease has spread widely, leading to modern-day slavery and depravity that infects the moral values of humanity. Sadly, there are individuals who engage in this form of exploitation, which serves as a testament to the depths of depravity that humans are capable of.

I was thoroughly absorbed in the narrative, unable to tear myself away until the final pages had been turned. The title and cover were an ideal match for the story, while the author's adept narration and evocative creativity combined to create an immensely satisfying read.

A Dangerous Man by J.L. Engel is an exhilarating action/thriller, but at its core is a beating heart. The combat scenes were depicted with absolute authenticity. J.L. Engle has done his research or perhaps experienced some of this life. Among breathtaking firefights, hand-to-hand action, technical expertise, and depictions of the depravity of man, there is humanity with all its suffering, loss, and redemption. The evil acts dealt upon the innocent will break your heart and anger you. I often found myself agreeing with and questioning the actions taken by Ghost and some of the other characters. This is what, in my humble opinion, elevated the book above the basic action genre, its ability to make me consider what would I do in these situations and indeed what should be done. Engel has written an exciting book that also helps to bring to light the atrocities of human trafficking. Well done and highly recommended! I eagerly await the sequel.

From the very first paragraph, this book had me completely captivated.

I was unable to tear myself away from it and found the author's exceptional writing abilities to be the driving force behind my inability to stop reading.

The level of intricacy is enthralling as no aspect is neglected or left unresolved.

Each circumstance leaves the reader eager to discover the resolution to any suspenseful moments that arose within that particular scenario.

The way Engel constructs his scenes with descriptive language and evocative emotions is truly captivating.

I cannot praise this book enough for its beautiful prose.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend getting a copy and experiencing it for yourself.

I am eagerly anticipating future releases from this talented author.

Cor blimey, guv'nor this big fat book packs a big fat punch.

Pro-tip. If you want to make your transatlantic flight go by quickly, and with added excitement - pick up this book and pack it in your carry on luggage. There's no need to check out the in-flight entertainment when you have 'A Dangerous Man' in your back pocket (you will not fit this in your back pocket unless you have an e-reader because it's hench).

This book is packed with action, badassery, tension and emotion from the moment you pull the trigger on that first chapter. J.L. Engel has an obvious talent for thrilling joyrides with depth and character building that'll knock your block off.

I cannot wait for the re-release of this absolute monster.

It hit every emotion throughout the book and kept me involved throughout the story, wanting to know what was going to happen next! J.L.Engel uses a real-life subject to open your eyes to what is happening behind closed doors and blows those doors wide open....and has me praying that this writing will help to open people's eyes to work to end trafficking!! This new authors writing style is so fluid that it leaves you wanting to read more from him. You will not regret purchasing this book!

This book dives deep into a dark side of humanity and what we as humans are capable of. But it also reflects how much love we are capable of. It also makes me think about the age old debate of what is the difference between vengeance and justice. Is there a difference when it involves the ones you love? There are more than a few WTF moments that required me to reread a paragraph or even a whole page to make sure I understood what just happened before moving on. Overall this book is a good old fashion page turner. Anyone who is even a little protective of someone will enjoy. I’ll be watching for this authors follow on book. Nicely done J.L.

Like Taken, but grittier and more realistic, with an even more badass avenging hero.

Engel deep-dives into the sordid world of human trafficking, forcing us to peer unflinchingly at the atrocities happening right under our nose, in our own backyard. The Ghost is the hero the world needs. A ruthless avenger who will stop at nothing to take down the man who took everything from him. The writing is dense, action-packed, and thoroughly researched, jumping between multiple points of view as we follow the trail of bodies to the epic, penultimate showdown. If you dig revenge thrillers like Man on Fire, The Equalizer, Taken, and Sicario, READ THIS BOOK!

Donning a Kevlar jacket before cracking open the pages of "A Dangerous Man" is highly recommended. This is a pulp-noir thriller that wastes no time in unloading bone-crunching action with the velocity of a ticking Doomsday Clock.

With the lethal and formidable 'Ghost,' J.L. Engel has created a memorable protagonist that prowls the swamps of human depravity in order to protect the most vulnerable among us. The real-world scenario of human trafficking creates villain fodder galore, but Engel grounds his novel with the the type of emotional realism that brings substance to the style.

"A Dangerous Man" is top-tier thriller. Highly recommended!

This book hits the ground at a full sprint, and doesn't stop. It's a very graphic story, there's no getting around that, but the story is very well crafted. And that plot twist and cliff hanger at the end! If you like action, this is a book you have to read.

Engel's debut is a deep, dark thrill from beginning to end. He has a unique ability to express action so the reader can see what he sees while still leaving space for the imagination to roam, and the mastery is on display in every scene splattered with Tarantino-esque gore. The human tragedy that runs through A Dangerous Man is told with terrifying detail, and Engel kept me glued to the page as the tale twisted and turned, shining light for fleeting moments as we discover involvement up to the highest rungs in society.

A Dangerous Man is engaging, action-packed, and, despite its serious content, a fun read. I can't wait for his next one.
