Glamping and Gore

Glamping Just Got Gruesome!
The last thing Max and Min expected when they finished erecting their glamping yurt was for a body to fall from the sky and get impaled on the fancy centre pole sticking up through the expensive canvas. But fate cares nothing for your wishes or wants, so no sooner had they said, "Ooh, looks lovely in here," than they had a mangled corpse on their hands, although not literally as the poor guy was stuck fast!

Suspicion soon falls on the local airport or the paragliding club, as the man had to have fallen from something, right? But with the investigation hampered by the utter lack of clues, or even the identity of the unfortunate sky-diver, the case goes cold quicker than a Swiss roll in an industrial freezer, and when another body is discovered and even the local DIs are stumped, it seems like Max and the gang will finally have to admit defeat on this perplexing mystery.

With Max's parents deciding to stay on to "help" with renovations, Max and Min have enough to contend with anyway, especially with the campsite being so busy, and becoming more popular by the day. With hardly enough time to chill and enjoy their new life, they have to contend with demented ducks, Anxious the Jack Russell Terrier's insatiable appetite, and some rather unconventional guests.

Even Tape Measure Guy is starting to drive Max to despair, as what on earth is he up to? When things come to a head, it's not over discovering the killer but the mystery man's own personal reveal. With it comes the solution to this gruesome series of events, but even then the answer was nothing anyone could have seen coming…

Contains a stunning one-pot recipe at the end. Perfect for camping, vanlife, or anyone who wants a great meal without all the washing up!

A journey of freedom, friendship, and murder mystery in the beautiful British countryside.

I keep thinking I'm going to give up on this series but then I don't because these books are like brain junk food -- not that satisfying, but familiar and easy to consume. Plus, once I get more than two books into a series, it's hard for me to quit unless a book does something that really upsets me (kills off a dog or a child or leaves someone in a really bad situation with no resolution). These books don't upset, but they do annoy.

I'm also really beginning to wonder about the author's relationship with the women in his life, or with women in general. The MC's wife is presented as a brainless idiot, while his mom is a demanding, narcissistic alcoholic with nothing remotely appealing about her. And why do these women communicate by squealing? Are they part pig? Very few, if any, female characters in his books act like mature, sensible adults, and the two ever-present ones embody the worst kinds of stereotypes.

Max himself is Mr. Virtue Signaling/ Humblebragging personified. Enough said. His dad is just stupid and clueless, also possibly somewhat narcissistic. (It seems to run in the family. In fact, it practically gallops.)

The only characters I really like are Anxious and Moose, although I'm not sure what the latter sees in Max and co. (Dogs in general are too good for all of us, but if mine can put up with me, I'm sure Anxious can cope with the pack of idiots he runs with.) I'm a bit on the fence about the duck, though. I've owned a few ducks in the past, and they weren't much in the personality department. (Nor were they really pets, more like my ex's experiment in hobby farming.) Still, if Anxious wants a duck, he certainly deserves one.

How can a body fall from the sky and get impaled on the centre pole of a yurt? That's the dilemma facing Max and Min in Glamping and Gore. There's really no clues for this one. The DI's can't figure it out. Even Max and Min seem to have no idea. Jack and Jill are back "helping" with the renovations to the house so that they can move in. The tradesmen aren't impressed with Jack's help and quit. Luckily Moose arrives to save the day, keeping Jack and Jill busy and leaving Max and Min free to work the case. Tape Measure Guy is measuring everything again and Demmy and Anxious are enjoying the freedom of running around the campsite. Another fun book from Tyler Rhodes, though this case just might go unsolved.

Pure chill time

I absolutely loved this book! Like the others in the series, it's not really about solving the mystery yourself - it's more about soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the ride. The campsite setting feels so real, and I could almost smell that Caribbean curry wafting through the pages. Max, Min, and Anxious, plus Demmy are wonderful company, and there's just enough of Moose's mystical edge to add intrigue without going overboard. It's pure vibes and emotion - the perfect cozy read that left me wanting more!

Anyone else completely in love with Moose and his ninja ways? Just me? Another Max and Min murder mystery that made me want to head out in the campervan and find a beautiful campsite just like theirs (only I’d rather read about the murders rather than participate in one!). There is definitely gore in this one - one minute I’m cringing about the ‘blood and guts’, the next I’m salivating over the one pot curry. Crazy but true! Another perfect holiday read. Have the Prosecco handy.

More baffling and gruesome murders for Max, Min and the gang! It seems someone is testing Max's capabilities by committing the impossible murder. More a case of how dunnit rather than who! Can Max and Min solve the murder before the happy campers get scared off?

The gang is all back in this third installment of the series. These books are each fresh in their story line and this one had me guessing until the end. So glad to learn what Tape Measure Man had up his sleeve this whole series. It was a delightful surprise. I thoroughly enjoy these books. They are relatively short reads that leave you feeling good when you turn the last page.
