The heartwarming new novel from the author of the million-copy bestselling Cockleberry Bay series
Seahaven Bay has always been a place where the sparkling tides bring laughter, love and a lot of fun. But when Rita Jory’s beloved husband Archie dies in a tragic accident, she’s left alone on their failing Cornish farm with nothing but her grieving heart, a mountain of debt and some very badly behaved goats. Faced with selling the home she loves or finding a way to make it pay, Rita has a moment of desperate inspiration. She decides to transform her beloved Seahaven Farm into a place where broken souls can heal by the sea.
With help from her sharp-tongued mother-in-law, loyal best friend, daughter and new friends, the rundown farm soon blossoms into a haven of healing, creativity and community. Rita dares to believe her future might still shimmer with possibility – and even admits her growing attraction to Jago, the gorgeous neighbouring farmer with whom the Jorys had a decades-long feud.
But just as Rita begins to find peace, long-buried secrets about Archie’s past begin to surface, forcing her to question everything she believed about the life they built together.
Rita must discover the truth and decide if she’s ready to open her heart again – to love, to hope, and to the possibility that even after loss, life can still be full of surprises.
A tender, uplifting and hilarious tale of resilience, friendship and finding light in the darkest moments, perfect for fans of Jill Mansell, Jojo Moyes and Amanda Prowse.
Escape to Seahaven Bay is exactly the kind of book that sneaks up on you in the best way. I picked it up planning to read a few chapters and ended up finishing it in a single day because I really did not want to put it down.
The characters are wonderful, so vivid, warm, and just quirky enough to feel real. The humor is unexpectedly spot-on, too. One line that absolutely killed me was: “I'm just suspicious of any activity that makes me fart involuntarily.” It’s said by the main character, Rita Jory, referring to her opinion of Pilates.
The writing flows beautifully, with just the right mix of heart, humor, and seaside charm. By the end, I genuinely wanted to retreat to Seahaven Bay myself. It feels like the peaceful and comfy kind of place you want to escape to for a while.
I'm looking forward to the release of Book 2 in this series now. It's a delightful read that left me smiling. Highly recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Escape to Seahaven Bay is an emotional, heartwarming story about grief, healing, and second chances. Nicola May pulled me in right from the start as Rita faces the loss of her husband and the possibility of losing her family farm. I really enjoyed watching her rebuild her life piece by piece, and the setting of the Cornish coast made the whole story feel comforting.
The side characters add so much warmth and humor, and I loved the sense of community that formed around the Seahaven Bay Retreat. The developing connection with Jago felt natural and earned, especially with all the history between them.
This is a heartfelt, uplifting read about resilience, starting over, and finding light again after heartbreak. Perfect for fans of emotional women’s fiction and coastal, small-town vibes. I really enjoyed this one!
So this was a new author and new series for me. I guess this book is more women's fiction than a mystery like I read most often but the story has a bunch of unanswered questions that our MC Rita must dig out answers to in order to move on with her life after a personal tragedy. At the start of the book we find Rita living on a lovely farm near Seahaven Bay, there is a beautiful farm starting to run wild and stunning views after the unexpected death of her beloved husband in a tragic accident. Rita discovers the farm is not doing well financially, which is a surprise, and she needs to get creative if she is going to be able to save her home. The grief and emotional needs of her mother-in-law and young adult children also come into play. Will her new crazy idea, hard work, and help from two new potential friends and employees be enough to save the farm, especially when new and potentially devastating information reaches the farm? Come along for this story of personal and emotional growth in a stunning setting with lots of characters you would love to meet in real life! When we first meet Rita Jory, she is grieving the tragic loss of her husband and struggling to maintain the farm they ran together. Her solution is to start up a wellness retreat as a means of keeping afloat. I loved the sound of the retreat with its get away from it all ethos, the yurts with the comfortable beds, the stunning view and the various wellness activities available. It did seems a little optimistic of Rita who had no experience of running a business let alone starting such an ambitious project from scratch. However, with the support of friends and members of the community, as well as two members of staff who turn up at just the right time, all seems to be going to plan.
I enjoyed getting to know the various guests at the retreat, all with their own stories and reasons for being there of course. They arrived as strangers but departed as friends. There are plenty of other memorable characters within Rita’s family too most notably her formidable mother-in-law Hilda! Over the course of the book there were plenty of secrets bring kept, a few mysteries to be solved and plenty of revelations all of which kept me entertained.
I thoroughly enjoyed spending time at Seaheaven Bay and thought the book was a great start to a new series with a satisfying ending. I’m looking forward to another visit to Seahaven Bay to see how the retreat develops, how life moves on for Rita and of course, meeting a new group of guests.

My Thoughts /
First and foremost, a huge THANK YOU to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and author, Nicola May for providing me with a copy of this publication, which allows me to provide you with an unbiased review.
Seahaven Bay has been home to Rita Jory for over twenty five years. It's been a place that has sparked joy for almost all of that time. It was here that she met and married her husband Archie, raised a family, and lived a fulfilling life. But when Archie was ripped from this earth in a tragic motor vehicle accident six months ago, Rita has been left feeling numb and very alone. She's thankful that she has the farm and the animals to keep her going. But just as Rita is coming to terms with Archie's death, she is faced with the real possibility of losing the farm. Initially it seems that Archie hadn't left a Will, but what he had left her with was a mountain of debt and no clear way out.
Looking for ways to keep herself afloat, Rita stumbles upon the idea of transforming Seahaven Farm into a wellness retreat. Armed only with enthusiasm and a dogged determination not to lose her family home, Rita sets about transforming the farm into a destination specialising in all-inclusive programs designed for deep restoration and habit change. Complete with eco-friendly, durable yurts for the accommodation and a selection of physical, mental and spiritual practices designed for rejuvenating the mind – such as daily yoga, medication, spa treatments and mindfulness workshops.
With nerves and anxiety in abundance, Rita welcomes her first group of five guests booked for a month long stay. A more eclectic bunch you could not find and which had Rita (at times) re-thinking her decision to run this retreat. But Seahaven Bay is one of those places where everything just seems to blossom and everyone pulls together.
This reader doesn't read a lot of contemporary romance/ chick-lit stories. For me, the plots are usually altogether entirely predictable. HOWEVER, every now and again one such story comes along that tugs on your heartstrings and delivers big feels. This is one of those stories. Made all the more enjoyable because of wonderful cast of characters.
A wonderful tale of resilience, friendship, of grief and finding life (and love) again; and of this magical place called Seahaven Bay.
With thanks to NetGalley and especially to one of my favourite publishers, Storm Publishing 💗 for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. The publication date is currently set for February 17, 2026.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review Escape to Seahaven bay! This is exactly the kind of books I usually like to pick up when I’m on reading slump, a cosy story that makes me travel to the parts of England I’m less familiar with.
The themes of this book are what drew me to it in the first place: self-awareness and discovery, navigating grief whilst trying to keep your head above water, new connections, all of this with a background of cosy farm and wellness retreat. The concept of turning a farm into a retreat to help people find their own way through mindfulness is something that speaks to me so much and I loved seeing Rita doing this for herself in Seahaven Bay.
Unfortunately even though it was very promising on paper, I didn’t think the execution was great. The first half of the book was so slow, I had to really make an effort to pick up the book. I felt not much was happening, and when something was happening it didn’t make much sense. Rita hires Zenya and Teo without knowing them at all just because they show up one day, they live on the farm with her and she trusts them without questioning anything. Luckily they turned out to be great people but I would have like to see a deeper connection develop first so that it would be more coherent.
I struggled connecting with Rita and I really don’t understand why she didn’t push more to get the answers she needed when all the right people are around her. It made me feel like she didn’t actually cared that much about all of it, when it’s the whole point of the book. But what bothered me the most was her connection with Jago. I don’t want to spoil so I won’t say much more, but I thought it was pretty incoherent, random and not justified at all, and I’m really puzzled with how things end with them.
Overall I feel like this book had so much potential and there were really cool parts in it but I felt like the relationship between the characters weren’t very credible and that impacted how much I enjoyed the story. I still very much loved the Cornwall small-town setting, some of the side characters are absolutely awesome (special mention to Jude and Jilly) and the important themes about grief and finding oneself touched me.
When Rita Jory's husband of twenty five years, Archie, died in a terrible accident, she struggled with the grief. She couldn't understand why the farm was so completely in debt and why there was no money for anything, let alone the bills. And not knowing if Archie had written a will, then discovering it was missing - forty five year old Rita was distraught, struggling with everything she was faced with. Not wanting to sell the farm; she loved it despite everything - the chickens and goats - so needed to work out an answer. When suddenly one came to her, and her mother-in-law, Hilda, helped out, Rita battled a lack of confidence, guilt and heartbreak.
Seahaven Bay Retreat was formed, with yurts for accommodation, the Barn and a marquee for yoga, creativity, healing and more; Zenya and Mateo (Teo) along with old farmhand Stan by her side, Rita felt nerves and anxiety, but a kind of peace as well. Rita's twin adult children, Sennen (fully supportive) and Thomas (Thom) (not so much) along with Hilda, kept the home fires burning. The first group of five guests would be there for a month, and a more diverse group you couldn't find. With the retreat going well, Rita's personal life wasn't - secrets and lies were coming to the surface...
Escape to Seahaven Bay is an intriguing read by Nicola May with a raft of characters forming friendships, changing plans and futures, enjoying the serenity (I'd love to go to Seahaven Bay myself - what a beautiful place!) and generally creating a surrounding of hope and resilience. There were tears (plenty of them), relationships, anger, grief and finally, truth. An enjoyable 1st in a new series - Seahaven Bay - which I recommend.
With thanks to NetGalley & Storm Publishing for my digital ARC to read and review.
This was my first book by this author and to be honest I wasn’t sure what to think.
Personally I didn’t need some of the expletives and suchlike - not because I am a prude (though I am sure some will disagree) but because it didn’t add anything to the story for me.
This is a story of love, loss redemption and family secrets. Some of it was predictable. I had worked out where one character fitted long before it was revealed - well two really and the first third of the book was soooo slow. And I mustn’t forget the goats and Hilda - the mother-in-law from Hell with a heart of gold.
Rita had been widowed at 45 after Archie dies in a car accident. Archie had been acting in an unusual manner before his death and afterwards Rita finds many unexplained debts.
To keep the home farm running she decides to set up a retreat with yoga, mindfulness and allowing her 5 guests to have their own yurts with primitive facilities but for them to find themselves and move forwards with their own lives. Would we all love to have the time and money to spend a month at a retreat - especially in Cornwall.?
Having worked out the mystery aspect of the book the end seemed to come all at once. It was obvious that Jago and Rita would become a couple and that Thom , Rita’s twin son would turn from villain if not to hero to a more likeable person. Sennen her daughter also realised that her life could be different.
To say more about the secrets would provide many spoilers, but the aspects of middle age grief, perimenopause and family secrets was dealt with, with empathy and pathos as well as light hearted moments. Some of the one-liners really made me laugh out loud.
I think if I saw any more in the series I would read them but this genre is not my favourite but really does provide a bit of variety.
Escape to Seahaven Bay by Nicola May is a warm, uplifting, and genuinely heart-comforting read that wraps you in hope from the very first page. It’s one of those novels that feels like a deep breath by the sea—gentle, reassuring, and quietly emotional.
Nicola May handles themes of grief and loss with real care and sensitivity, never letting the sadness overwhelm the story. Instead, she balances it beautifully with humour, friendship, and the quiet strength that comes from community. Rita is a wonderfully relatable protagonist: flawed, resilient, and determined to hold on to the place she loves despite financial pressure and deep personal loss. Her journey feels honest and hopeful, making her easy to root for.
The Cornish farm setting is full of charm, with sweeping coastal views, a sense of escape, and some very badly behaved (and utterly lovable) goats providing light-hearted moments that lift the story without undermining its emotional core. I especially loved the idea of Seahaven Farm becoming a place of healing for broken souls. Watching the retreat slowly take shape—mirroring Rita’s own healing—was both comforting and uplifting.
The supporting cast truly shines, from the sharp-tongued but loving mother-in-law to the loyal friends, retreat guests, and the gentle promise of new love. Each character adds warmth, humour, and heart, creating a strong sense of found family and belonging.
This is an easy read, but not a shallow one. It’s gentle, heartfelt, and quietly moving, with moments of warmth and humour that make it a joy to sink into.
A tender, feel-good novel about resilience, second chances, and finding light after loss. I’m very much looking forward to reading more from Nicola May. 🌊💛
You know that feeling, when you begin a book, and positively hum with happiness, knowing it is the first in a series and that you really want to read the next and the next? That's how I felt as I got into this new book by the amazing Nicola May. Seahaven Bay is not far removed from Cockleberry Bay, but has its own cast of interesting characters. In this first book, we get to know Rita Jory, a mid-forties widow still in the throes of grief, running a farm almost single-handedly while looking out for her eccentric mother-in-law, Hilda, and a group of animals with their own personalities. Rita isn't sure how long she can survive on the farm after being left with a lot of unexpected debt by her late husband, Archie. A spark of an idea to host a retreat on the property brings her much happiness and a sense of purpose, and she brings together a wonderful, motley crew to support her. But nothing is ever smooth sailing, is it? There is an old family secret gnawing at her, but not quite revealing itself, as well as many questions about Archie and what he may or may not have been hiding from her. Everything about this story was perfect! I felt for Rita so much, and it was wonderful to read about the support network around her, from old friends to new ones. Hilda is a real character, and Jory, the 'enemy' neighbour, is definitely a bit of hot stuff! And I cannot not mention Camilla. Yes, she's a goat, but she has a lot to offer in the story, and though she cannot talk, her actions make sure she is noticed! Oh, and if it were real, I would so want to join them all on the month-long retreats that Rita provides!
I received an advance review copy for free thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

My Opinion
Escape to Seahaven Bay is the delightful opening book in the Seahaven Bay series. A lovely, engaging read that was difficult to put down. With some lovely characters Nicola May has written a beautiful novel.
This is the first book in a new series set in Seahaven Bay. The setting sold it to me straight away, more so as it is set on a farm which overlooks the sea. What more could you want? We meet Rita who is having a tough time of it after losing her husband and not only is she dealing with her grief, but the money worries that have come along with it. I have every sympathy for this woman having to deal with so much. On top of that it seems like her husband was keeping secrets and I was as intrigued as Rita to find out what they were.
There is a great supporting cast of characters in this novel. I especially loved Hilda, Rita’s mother-in-law, she would test the patience of a saint but her heart is in the right place. Rita’s best friend Kelly, is another fun character whose conversations with her friend are just hilarious. There is certainly a lot of fun to be had reading this book. There is even a character with the same name as a famous author!
Escape to Seahaven Bay is a heartwarming story with an idyllic setting and loveable characters. I adored the new and old friendships, as well as a possible new romance for certain characters. Camilla the goat does a good job at trying to steal the limelight and there were so many parts that had me grinning from ear to ear. There are also some tender, endearing parts that pulled on my emotions and it all comes together wonderfully to deliver on all the feels and was so good for the soul. Gorgeously uplifting!
Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and Storm Publishing for the ARC.
First of all, I must say that rating this book was not easy for me. It is one of those books that you can literally escape to when things get rough, or you are just not feeling it. The scenery, the friendship and support between the characters, and the reinvention of self and one's surroundings were masterfully written, and they absolutely heal and give the reader a peaceful feeling.
However, there were two issues for me. Firstly, I found it hard to connect with Rita, our main character, mainly due to some of the decisions she makes. Although, understandably, she feels lost after the sudden passing of her husband, it put me a bit off to see her getting attracted to multiple people. The second point that did not work for me was the last secret that was revealed. I found it unnecessary, and sadly, it led to one of Rita's decisions that I did not feel good about.
Looking past the two points I have mentioned, the book delivers pure, healing gold and is a perfect read for times you just want to kick back and relax, and maybe find inspiration for yourself to be brave and start again.
Overall, although I couldn't form a strong connection with Rita, the rest of the characters and the general atmosphere and vibe of the book made it a very pleasant read for me. I would love to read more books by Nicola May!
Now, where to start? Seahaven farm is failing, as Rita finds life hard after the unexpected death of her husband. With her son rarely in contact and her daughter working away from home, Rita is getting to her wits end, with the possibility of losing the farm a real possibility. Through a change of direction for the farm, things begin to change, before a secret long buried makes things even worse. I won't tell you what happens, as I don't believe in giving everything away. Now, first off, I have to tell you that I consider Nicola one of the best writers out there and with this book, she has crafted a story which flows, is full of twists and turns, the characters are wonderfully drawn and presented, as would be expected from this author. I loved the descriptions of the location and the way it was written, made me want to go back to Cornwall and see if perhaps, I could find a Seahaven bay of my own. I'm sure that by the time you finish this book, you'll feel the same. Overall, this is a story about grief, and how one handles it. That does not repeat, does not mean it is a depressing story, though there are times where you wonder how Rita will get through in one piece. The romance is always there, even in the darkest moments and in all, this book is one which will touch your heart. My thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for the reading copy.
What an absolutely brilliant start to a new series.
I loved Rita right from the start, and when you add in her best friend Kelly, and also Jilly Cooper from reformed Pilates, you have a totally hilarious trio of women guaranteed to make you laugh.
Rita needs to make her farm start earning more money after she was left in debt when hubby Archie died. And decides to set up a retreat.
I loved seeing how everything comes together, and the first set of various guests that come for the month long retreat which offers rest, relaxation, and various woo woo options.
And then there is the mystery of the will and also just why is there a feud with the neighbouring farm. Add in her mother in law Hilda and you have all the elements for a fabulous story.
And the best bit is this is the first of a new series, so at some point I'll be able to return to these characters.
I also liked a cameo of a character from a different series from this author.
I was completely engaged from start to finish and think this may just be the beginning of a new hit series for this always talented author.
Oh and I loved the goats too, especially Camilla!
Thank you to Storm Publishing and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Seahaven Bay is a truly uplifting and heartwarming read, and I really enjoyed spending time in this story.
Nicola May has created such a gentle, welcoming setting in Seahaven Bay, even as the novel opens with loss and grief. Rita’s journey after the death of her husband is handled with warmth and care, balancing sadness with hope, humour, and the quiet strength that comes from community and friendship. And the goats — honestly, they added just the right touch of lightness.
I loved watching Seahaven Farm slowly transform into a place of healing, not just for Rita, but for everyone drawn into her orbit. The relationships in this book felt genuine and comforting, from the sharp-tongued but loving mother-in-law to the loyal friends and the slow, tentative spark of new possibility.
This was an easy read, gentle and heartfelt, but with enough depth and emotion to really connect. A story about resilience, second chances, and learning that even after loss, life can still surprise you in the best ways.
A lovely, feel-good novel that leaves you with a warm glow — perfect for readers who enjoy emotional, uplifting stories with heart. I’m very much looking forward to reading more from Nicola May.
I enjoyed this book because Nicola May gives me exactly what I look for in her stories. She writes romance that feels real and warm. She creates a small community that feels alive and full of personality. She never gives me a banal or superficial story. The story is witty and full of charm. There are many fun scenes that made me smile and many moving moments that touched me. I like how she mixes humour and emotion in a natural way, without ever losing balance. The romance grows slowly and honestly. It comes from real feelings and shared experiences. The town is filled with people who have their own lives, hopes and problems. The friendships and the everyday life of the place are as important as the love story, and this makes the book richer. The book is light but never empty. There is kindness, heart and a strong sense of people supporting each other. It feels comforting without being simple. It feels hopeful without being fake. For me this is the kind of story that lets me escape for a while but still gives me something true. Nicola May always finds this balance and I appreciate it every time. A new series by Nicola May is always a treat and I can’t wait to read the rest. Highly recommended, many thanks for this digital copy, all opinions are mine
This is a story of new beginnings and coming to terms with the past. Seahaven Bay provides the perfect setting for Rita's new Wellness Retreat and in fact it is an important part of the story. Rita's husband, Archie, has died in an accident and left the running of the family farm to her. Wrapped in her grief, Rita struggles to cope at first and is missing her twin frown-up children more that she can say. Into her world, come some newcomers who are lone travellers and looking for roots. Rita finds that their talents are just what she needs and strong friendships develop. There are some strong characters in the story who seem to know about some hidden secrets than at first appears. Rita's eccentric mother-in-law adds some humour but also a large dose of strength and reality. Rita realises that there are secrets in Archie's past which may affect her future and all of her family. There is a slow burn romance developing with a certain neighbour and some surprising reveals as the past is uncovered. The retreat customers add variety and life to the story and show you different aspects of Rita’s character. This is a promising series with a varied community and strong characters for future story lines. In short: starting over Thanks to the publisher
This is the first Nicola May book I have read. What enticed me to read it was the description that Netgalley used for the book. It is listed as romance but I thought it was more women’s fiction. I found it to be well written. Rita Jory has recently lost her husband in a tragic accident. She is having a very hard time processing her grief. She is about to lose her farm and has enough strength and gumption to make a plan to save it. With the help of family and friends, she struggles to open a retreat at the farm.
There were plenty of secrets being kept throughout the family. I won’t reveal any of them as they are integral to the story.
I liked the characters even though I wasn’t crazy about the secrets being kept from one another.
The book shows great depth in the individuals’ feeling and the extent they will go to keep their secrets and the reasons behind them. I felt the book showed despair, resilience, strength, and love for family.
I was satisfied with the ending. I recommend this book for its overall coverage of so many topics and feeling.
Netgalley allowed me to read an advanced copy. I am not required to leave a positive review. I look forward to another Nicola May book in my future.
I wanted to love this book so badly, but I just couldn’t. The start was so slow, I really had to force myself to get back to reading it in hopes that it would pick up and capture my interest more. It finally did, but not until about 60% of the way through. I felt like Rita’s desire to start a wellness retreat despite her financial struggles was unrealistic, as was the fact that her first group of participants went off without a hitch despite an amateur arranging everything.
I also found Rita and Jago’s “love story” so unconvincing. There really was not enough evidence within the story to back up how the book wrapped up. He had fallen in love with her despite their long standing family feud and fairly limited time spent together? This just didn’t do it for me. It felt forced and unsubstantiated.
I think there were many parts of the book that could use a bit more fleshing-out to really nail it. There were too many moving parts within the story that were very minimal details. I think simplifying to fewer threads with more details and support included for each would have made this story more enjoyable for me.

This was such a lovely read, following the story of Rita who is grieving the loss of her husband Archie, and wondering where life will take her especially now as the family farmhouse she loves so much is draining her finances and the debts are beginning to pile up.
she has always found peace in Seahaven Bay, and finds comfort amongs the local community who all rally round one another in times of need. She has such happy memories too of the farm where she lives, but it was always her husbands' dream there and now it's time for her to follow her heart and live out her own dreams, even if that means upsetting her children.
And I love that she seems to find the right people at the right time for her dreams to move forward. There are some really interesting characters we meet along the way, and I enjoy seeing how Rita finds meaning and peace in helping others and it also helps her deal with some shocking family revelations that come to light along the way. Loved the humour but also the serious side of the story and I highly recommend reading this, especially if you are a fan of Nicola May as she writes these kind of stories so well!!
Thank you Nicola May and NetGalley for an advanced e copy of Escape to Seahaven Bay
🌊📚 Seahaven Bay – Book Review 📚🌊
If you love emotional, feel-good reads with seaside charm and a little chaos (enter: unruly goats 🐐), Seahaven Bay is a total treat.
After losing her husband, Rita Jory is left with a failing Cornish farm, heavy debt, and a broken heart. Her solution? Turn Seahaven Farm into a healing retreat by the sea. With the help of her sharp-tongued mother-in-law, loyal friends, creative souls, and a very gorgeous neighbouring farmer she shouldn’t be falling for 👀🔥, the farm slowly transforms into a place of hope, laughter, and new beginnings.
Just when Rita starts to believe in happiness again, long-buried secrets from her past rise to the surface, adding emotional depth and keeping the pages turning.
✨ Warm, witty, and uplifting, this story is all about community, second chances, and finding light after loss. Perfect for fans of cosy coastal fiction, slow-burn romance, and books that leave you smiling long after the final page 🌿💙
If you need an escape from the everyday then Escape to Seahaven Bay is the perfect place to get lost and make time disappear.
Rita has been struggling since the very sudden death of her husband Archie. Not only are her emotions still exposed and raw but she has come to realize that he dear husband left her in a mountain of debt that she is having a hard time climbing out of. Then there's the mystery of a will that she actually didn't even know about and now cannot be found.
Rita knows she is on the verge of selling her home when inspiration strikes and she decides to set up a retreat where people can unwind, unplug and take in the lovely sea views at Seahaven Farm.
ETSF brings you on a journey of healing, moving forward and making bonds with people you would have never imagined in your life but now can't imagine your life without them. I love the bonds made and the secondary characters added so much depth and dimension to the story. Very fun and lovable cast.

Rita's beloved husband died in a freak accident, leaving her struggling to keep their farm afloat with mountains of debt. . She decides to open a wellness retreat, making use of the calming location. Aided by a loan from her mother in law, with whom she had a difficult relationship, and aided by a passing couple of stragglers.I read and enjoyed a previous series by this author, the Ferry Bridge Market, so was looking forward to reading this one. Any book set in Cornwall always attracts me, combined with a small community and believable characters. Personally I'm not into glamping, but can appreciate how a month in such a peaceful location could be really good for you. Add in a grumpy neighbour and troublesome grown up children and you have the type of book that I really enjoy and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. 4.5*rounded up to 5 *. I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.
In her charming new novel, Escape to Seahaven Bay, Nicola May introduces us to Rita, who finds herself overwhelmed by debt and the sorrow of losing her cherished husband, Archie, in a tragic accident. As she weighs her options, including selling their struggling farm — complete with its unpredictable goats — she experiences a moment of inspiration: she dreams of transforming Seahaven Farm into a retreat by the sea. With unwavering support from her family and friends, Rita is determined to make her vision a reality.
What can I say - I was invested in this story and willing Rita to follow her heart while keeping her head! The setting is glorious, and I wish I could visit Seahaven when I'm next in Cornwall! I loved that Nicola included lighthearted humour amongst the angst. I did need some tissues at times but I feel that's a sign of me being engrossed and committed to the story!
If, like me, you love Amanda Prowse novels, youre sure to enjoy this one.

After the sudden death of her husband Archie, Rita Jory is living alone at Seahaven Farm. With escalating debts, she's faced with having to sell the farm. The farm's real asset is its peaceful coastal location in Cornwall, giving Rita the idea of opening the farm as a retreat for paying guests seeking seclusion and a time to reflect the direction of their lives.
With the help of friends, old and new, the retreat becomes a success, it even works its magic on Rita who was overwhelmed by her grief, but her ownership of the farm remains at risk with Archie's will unaccountably missing.
An idealistic setting where all the characters know and take care of each other.
With thanks to Storm Publishing and the author for the eARC, this review is my personal, unbiased opinion.
This was like sunshine in a story, I adore the author so knew I had to read it, but it surprised me how quickly I devoured it, this story had me wanting to run away to a retreat and taking nothing but books. Rita is just a wonderful character; your heart will break for her as she comes to terms with the loss of her beloved husband Archie as she leans this new wilderness that is widowhood. I think we could all learn a little something off Rita, and in some cases her mother-in-law Hilda (who I secretly hope to emulate in a few years). This is a story full of ups and downs, a story about how we all grieve differently, and how we all move at different paces. The setting is beautiful and I for one can’t wait to return to Seahaven Bay and catch up with characters who feel like they have become firm friends in my heart.
Thanks to netgalley for this book in return of an honest review.
I had high hopes for this book, but unfortunately it just didn't deliver for me. The story was just a bit unrealistic for me. A widow meeting not one but two total strangers, offering them jobs with no income and also letting them live on her land/in her house? Friends and family agreeing and not questioning it? The constant hinting about the rifts between the two families but no context as well, and when she tried to ask people literally walked away? I'm sorry but you would push it, you wouldn't leave it especially in the circumstances. The whole story was very far fetched, and also unfortunately predictable as I guessed quite early on what was happening. Not a horrendous read, but just not a great one for me unfortunately.
Escape to Seahaven Bay was a breath of fresh Cornish Air and I absolutely inhaled it! I can always rely on Nicola’s books to provide the perfect recipe for a delightful escape, filled with romance and friendship.
When we meet Rita, she is still reeling from the sudden death of her beloved husband, Archie. Her children have left home, so her only support comes from her abrasive mother-in-law and her best friend, who doesn’t live locally. My heart went out to Rita; she was dealing with a devastating loss whilst trying to keep her head above water in a financial storm.
Thankfully, Nicola May is well-practised when it comes to introducing characters who have challenges to face, so Rita’s situation never felt overwhelming. Of course, there is plenty of humour to lighten the story, which adds a refreshing distraction from Rita’s problems.
There is romance to be found as Rita explores the undeniable attraction she feels to her handsome neighbour, Jago. However, the real star of the book is the powerful group who come together to help Rita fulfil her vision for the farm’s future. I felt like I was part of the team as a strong sense of community emerged from her seed of an idea, and support came from unlikely sources. The supporting cast is packed with fantastic characters whom I felt a real affinity for, and have stayed with me since the closing pages.
A strong and promising start from a new series penned by a particular favourite of mine. Highly recommended.
Recently widowed Rita is struggling with her loss and the mounting debts her husband left behind. The Cornish farm where she lives means everything to her, and she is determined to find a way to make it pay. What follows is an immersive story of secrets and second chances as Rita fights to survive her debts and her devastating loss. Whilst this is an emotional read, the storytelling is wonderful, with a defining thread of determination and hope, no matter the problems. There is also a lovely sense of community support from a variety of sources, which introduces relatable characters that lend the story authenticity and readability. I like the characters, the Cornish setting and the enticing blend of friendship, grief, mystery and romance that unfolds. I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
