Life happened and she discovered she could be all those things; in the pages of her books.
Her debut novel, Tempting Adam, came out February 2011 from The Wild Rose Press.
In October of 2011 she decided to start self-publishing.
Jill writes contemporary and paranormal romance with a dash of urban fantasy from time to time.
I would have given this audiobook a 'one star' but since I couldn't finish it, I'll just go with 'three stars'. While I typically love zombie stories this one didn't do it for me. I got maybe a third of the way in before I finally decided to just give in and stop listening. The story didn't hold my attention at all. The narrator, in my opinion, was not right for this story either. If the main character is a female, why in the world would a male narrator be chosen? Or let me rephrase that, why would a male narrator that can't do a female sounding voice be chosen? His nasally voice was very distracting and the character voices weren't all that different from each other. Maybe it's because of the narrator that I had a hard time with this story, I don't know; maybe the story would have been better if I'd read it instead. Needless to say, I won't be looking for audiobooks by this narrator.
Enjoyed this quick read. The book went quickly and Jill James packs a lot of story in such a small space. There seemed to be an inordinate amount of coincidences, but it seems that the underlying theme of the book is faith & fate and I had no problems with that. I'm always a sucker for books that involve perseverance and the satisfaction when everything comes together in the end. The characters were enjoyable and it made you want to root for the good guys and wish terrible things on the bad guys. I'm glad that this is a series because I want to know what happens next.
Yep, It’s a story about zombies and love, I know, I know mention the word love or romance and some zombie book aficionados, hold their nose and run off like… well… a zombie hoard was at their doorstep!
If you’re one of those I’m here to tell you that you’re missing out on one great audiobook. This book has everything you expect from a great zombie listen, graphic descriptions of the horrifying carnage wrought by zombies, exposing the flaws of man under stress causing the rise to power of wicked men and a team of kick ass heroes who won’t go gentle into that good night.
A virulent strain of influenza is wreaking havoc on the world population and a grieving, US President orders the vaccine to be sprayed into the water and food supply, a great way to throw gasoline on the fire Pres!
Soon the dead are rising and two people from disparate lifestyles before the zombie apocalypse, Emily Gray an unhappy trophy wife and Seth Ripley a long distance truck driver discovers they have what it takes to survive in this harsh new world.
I enjoyed Jill James’ writing style and there were small sprinkles of humor at just the right times and I always appreciate that especially in this genre.
The audiobook is narrated Maxwell Zener and this is the first audiobook that I’ve listened to from him and he does a wonderful job voicing most of the characters in the story, sometimes though I did lose track of which character was narrating the scene, there wasn’t enough variation in tone for my ears between Emily’s character and Seth’s. That aside, I wouldn’t hesitate to listen to another audiobook with him as a reader.
Really ended up enjoying this book. It has zombies and a side of romance what's not to like. Action, suspense, zombies, a little humor and romance all woven into an entertaining and enjoyable story. Will I listen to the book again, yes.
The synopsis tells you the gist of the story to say more would be giving to much away. Great cast of characters. Both the good and bad guys. Even when the world is crashing down around you and every second is a fight for survival you can still find love.
Looking forward to the next installment of the series.
Maxwell Zener did a good job with the narration. Nice voice. Good delivery and tone. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Some really good character voices at the same time his female character voices need some work. There were times when I wasn't sure which character was speaking. This was really confusing at times because you didn't know which character was speaking. Overall though very enjoyable. I do have to say though I'm surprised they didn't use a female narrator or dual narration.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher.
A zombie book is pretty much guaranteed to have action and adventure, what with everyday being a struggle to survive. Given the title of this book I expected there to be some romance thrown in but also expected that romance not to be the absolute focus of the story- it is the zombie apocalypse after all. I was wrong. I got an hour and 40 minutes into this 6 hour and 28 minute audio book before I gave up. Who is dating who, will the MC get over her pre-zombie hangups and hop in bed with someone? These are the concerns of this book and it is just the character's bad luck that a bunch of zombies keep showing up ruining their dating opportunities, and no, the book is not written with a discernible sense of humor about such things. The only reason I'm giving this book 2 stars instead of one is the writing is pretty good, I just don't care for the story being told.
Bottom line: If you like romance set in the zombie apocalypse, good for you, but this book was a waste of my time.
While zombies are the framework of this story, they are not the main story. The story revolves around Emily and Seth, who meet within a short period of time after society disintegrates. The story line is well developed, the story moves fairly quickly and well, with a fair number of twists and turns. Primary and secondary characters are well developed. Over the course of the story the author provides noticable changes and growth of the principle characters. While the story takes place as society disintegrates and the world is overrun with zombies, it is essentially about the redemptive power of love.I rated the book 4 and assigned it a sexy rating of 4.
I really enjoyed this read, both the story and the characters and I look forward to reading the other books in this series. This is an author worth keeping an eye on!
An influenza pandemic eliminates two billion lives from the planet. The U.S. President attempts to slow the death rate by introducing a vaccine into the food and water supply. The solution backfires of course and the dead begin to rise. Emily Gray and Seth Ripley are normal everyday people looking to survive the apocalypse. Their paths cross and a relationship ensues. The story focuses on this pair, chronicles how the relationship changes their lives and compares the new to the old. We also have a General Peters who remarkably can control the zombies to some degree via sound waves. An interesting twist and adds a little to the plot. It’s a story of people, love and survival. The sexual encounters may be a bit overdone, but does not completely distract. Not too bad; three.point.five for the effort.
I really can't give this a whole review because I couldn't even finish the book. I was only able to read to thirty eight percent and couldn't finish anymore. In my opinion, this book just wasn't as action pack as other zombie novels. If it was I hadn't got there by what I read. Please don't let my opinion of this book stop you as other fellow zombie readers to read this book.
I was really disappointed by this. Too many character perspectives, and they jumped all over the place. Not enough relationship development. And the 'big bad' of the book was woeful. I won't be bothering with the sequel.
