Good info for going on day hikes. Pretty easy merit badge you could probably get at camp or with some other scouts. The cover has a bunch of scouts with british-commando style berets. How come we never got those? We just had dumb trucker hats. This pamphlet briefly covers important topics such as:

taking care of your feet
walking technique
road hazards
outdoor hazards
how to make water safe to drink
fire safety
what to take with you
food to take hiking

The Hiking Merit Badge book has some great advice and good resources. Like most Scout MB handbooks it is light on descriptions of backwoods skills and heavy on emphasis on low impact hiking, fire use, etc. Scouts should definitely read it if they are working on this Eagle Scout required merit badge.
