Rate this book
Jing Huan spent months crafting the perfect revenge plot, but when supposed unfaithful playboy Yearning For makes a shocking announcement on their virtual wedding night—which wasn’t part of the plan—he’s left with a horrible realization.

He’d been catfishing the wrong guy.

Consumed by guilt and panic, he’s determined to right this wrong, or at least dig himself out of this hole without breaking any hearts, but everything he tries only pulls Yearning For closer.

Meanwhile in real life, he can’t seem to shake his aloof upperclassman, Xiang Huaizhi, whose way of speech seems oddly familiar somehow…

“It’s fine. The sky’s still up there, the earth’s still spinning. People make mistakes. You own up to them and fix them. That’s all.”

I had a fun time with this volume, but it also hit me with more emotion than I expected. It started off good, then moved into a sad part that honestly made my chest feel a little heavy. I did like where that part of the story ended, though, because it gave me enough curiosity for the next volume. This is where Jing Huan’s revenge plan really starts falling apart, and I could feel him slowly losing the control he thought he had. His feelings are becoming real, and the truth feels closer with every chapter. That made the whole reading experience funny, awkward, and painful all at once.

Jing Huan made me so nervous in this volume. I kept wanting to laugh at his panic, but I also felt bad for him because his guilt was clearly eating at him. The catfishing started as part of his plan, but now it feels like a trap he built for himself. Every interaction with Xiang Huaizhi felt tense because Jing Huan was always one second away from spiraling. I loved Xiang Huaizhi here too. His calm personality made Jing Huan’s chaos even funnier, and I liked how attentive he became. Their moments had so much secondhand embarrassment, but I couldn’t stop reading because I wanted to see how much messier it would get.

One thing I really appreciated was getting more real life interaction. I had been craving that since the previous books, so those scenes made me happy. The game chats and social media interactions are still here, and they still bring a lot of humor, but seeing the characters outside the game made everything feel more personal. I also liked that the book shows all sides of the situation, so it never felt flat or one sided. Some parts frustrated me because I wanted Jing Huan to just be honest already, but I still cared about what he was feeling. This volume made me laugh, cringe, worry, and feel sad. It feels like the point where the story becomes more than just a funny online romance, and even though it stressed me out, I’m definitely more invested now.Date

LOGIC: you can't do canon mpreg in a contemporary-slash-realistic danmei romcom

JIANG ZI BEI: hold my beer

I can't believe I have to wait until September for vol 4 after

And let me add a note here that these physical copies continue to be a delight: the progression of different SD emoticon expressions of the mains in the upper corners of each page? Delightful. continuing theme in the books' design where if you remove the dust cover, the most romantic line of dialogue is printed directly onto the book? Give these nerds a raise. I'm also getting the acrylic book box when the final volume comes out as well, best BELIEVE.

I went straight into this after volume 2 and wow, I was not expecting it to feel this intense. This one had me stressed in a good way. The emotions were heavy and you can really feel everything building up between them. And that reveal at the end… yeah, that was a lot.

I’m actually mad I don’t have the last book yet because I already know I’m going to binge it the second it arrives. So far, I absolutely love this series.

Misunderstandings as the root of conflict don't usually work for me, and it doesn't always work for me here, but ooooh I just want them to be happy
