When the storm of the century hits Gloamington, killer weather isn’t the only thing to worry about.
A renowned cryptozoologist arrives in town to study Gloamington’s magical creatures. Instead of discovering new species, he becomes the latest casualty when his body is found during the worst storm in decades.
Malcolm Fawkes and Ella Bloom must navigate a web of suspects while battling hurricane-force winds. From rival researchers to protective locals, everyone had a reason to want the controversial scientist silenced forever.
The cryptozoologist had made dangerous enemies with his groundbreaking research. His latest discovery could have won him another prestigious award—or gotten him killed.
While Ella battles to control her mysterious powers and Malcolm desperately seeks the memory that could restore everything, Agent Cage from the Department of Defense circles like a vulture, ready to shut down the Gloaming forever. But as the storm intensifies and political pressure mounts, finding the truth becomes a race against time.
Can Ella and Malcolm discover what happened to the cryptozoologist and save Gloamington before winds, murder and politics tear it apart?
Raining Cats and Curses is the fifth book in the enchanting Ella Bloom Mysteries.

I swear this series gets better and better with each book. There’s still trouble with the agent from the DOD whose determined to shut down the gloaming and then there’s the cryptozoologist whose back in town to stir up trouble and then there is the storm of the century, and just when you think that’s it, there’s a murder oh and we find Bigfoot! It’s another exciting visit to this extraordinary town, another day of mystery, suspense and who dunnit as we see Ella continue to learn her abilities with guidance from some new friends. With twists and turns and a few surprises, there is no shortage of suspects to investigate and secrets to reveal and I will admit there were a few tears shed towards the end but then maybe I'm just getting sappy in my old age! Absolutely loved it!
This series has quickly moved near the top of the list in terms of Sarah’s best work. That alive is more than enough endorsement to move you to pick it up.
The entire series has a “lightness,” to it. Not a single bit feels forced or unnecessary. The words and the tale flow easily and easily wrap the reader up in their events.
Moreover, they continue to read easily as stand alone books. Granted there will be a few spoilers if they are not read in order, but if this is your introduction to the series, you won’t go wrong. Or start at the beginning, if that feels better for you, either way, you are guaranteed to ENJOY!
Ella, Malcolm and Shadow are on a new case, this one involving Bigfoot and a murdered cryptozoologist. I really enjoy this series, the characters are lots of fun and I enjoy their outlook on life. The mysteries are always good as well as the main storyline of trying to fix Malcolm's memories and figure out what Ella actually is. I am looking forward to a lot more stories in this series.
These stories are just so fun. It's really 2 stories in one book. Who did it part ,which is so fun. Especially when magic is involved. Plus the growth of the characters. All the characters are perfect, and she weaves it all together so well. Definitely a town like no other town.
An enjoyable series with likable characters. There are quite a few repetitive sections that can cause some pause. Also one section that seemed to be out of place. It talked about something that had already happened as if it was being teed up. I do continue to enjoy the series though and look forward to future books.
What a great storyline full of great characters lots of cosy and adventures, this series has been great and every book in it a pleasure to read , a very well deserved 5 stars
Ella and Malcom have another murder to solve and along the way we find Ella has more magic. She is becoming a powerhouse and will need it when the go to rescue Malcom’s wife!
This is definitely a story that needs to be read in order, otherwise the reader (even though the author references things) will not get the entire experience out of this book.
This is another murder and Ella getting ever closer to finding out who she is. Ellas abilities are very fae. I really love reading this and I enjoy learning more. Tyler found out who his father is when he dies.
