HOW MANY LIFETIMES WILL IT TAKE?Wu Xingxue has awakened and realized that he is indeed an archfiend. However, much of his past, like his connection to the mysterious Rex Spiritus or the Arbor Divinus, remains an enigma. Adding to the puzzle is the legendary Tianxiu Immortal, Xiao Fuxuan, who continues to support him. Wu Xingxue's fragmented memories suggest that Xiao Fuxuan's helpfullness might stem from a surprisingly simple reason--one that ties them together inexorably.
Determined to uncover the truth, Wu Xingxue travels with his ragtag group to the feared stronghold of Nightgleam. Once inside, he will surely encounter the archfiend who usurped his position as leader of all fiends.
But when they least expect it, the group is dragged into a vision of the past. And the illusion--if it is an illusion--holds more shocking revelations than any of them could have imagined.

This volume truly met all my expectations and then some. The story was a delicate tapestry of sweet, funny, and lighthearted moments intertwined seamlessly with bittersweet, melancholic scenes, creating a hauntingly nostalgic atmosphere that permeated the entire narrative.

The story arcs in this volume carried a profound emotional weight. Every revelation left me torn between wanting to cry and smile simultaneously, highlighting the depth of the storytelling. The narrative explored the past extensively while skillfully weaving it into the present timeline.

Wu Xingxue stands out without a doubt as one of the most charming protagonists I've encountered. His presence ignites every scene he's in, injecting it with vibrancy, and he imbues each character he interacts with with a unique personality. I truly love him.

Then there's Xiao Fuxuan, who tore at my heartstrings yet brought so much laughter. He embodies an ideal blend of Hua Cheng and Lan Wangji, creating a character who is both enigmatic and hilarious. If you combined these two characters, you'd get Xiao Fuxuan. He shone brightly in this volume, revealing more of his true personality. Don't be fooled by his quiet demeanor; behind it lies a hilarious sense of humor. When he adopts a serious attitude, it exudes a captivating aura that commands admiration. His bittersweet past offers insight into his cold exterior and the perception of him as strict and aloof by others.

Their relationship is nothing short of extraordinary. Their mutual care, playful flirtation, and deep understanding create a beautifully realistic bond—even without a single kiss. Learning about their shared history makes everything fall into place, painful yet incredibly beautiful and sweet. I eagerly anticipate watching their relationship grow even deeper.

The supporting characters breathe additional life into this danmei story. From the charming little heaven pageboys to the fiendish underlings, celestial beings, and cultivators, each character adds vibrant color and vitality to the narrative.

In conclusion, this volume was flawless. I am already eagerly awaiting the third volume.

Beautiful love story between immortals with multiple lifetimes of entanglements- I am devouring and relishing every bit of this story! Amnesia, yearning, a splash of jealousy, foreshadowing, and flashbacks with reveals of connections that will have you in tears.

My favorite things about this volume:
😈Xiao Fuxuan’s loyalty and protection of Wu Xingxue
😈 Their chemistry
😈 MSL’s humor- the inner dialogue of the MC in this is close to Copper Coins
😈 Surprisingly, the amnesia and flashbacks! MSL does this well
😈The reveals we get had me putting the book down and just 😭

When I say I don’t like children in my books, I am not talking about these two little ghost children (wraithlings in Seven Seas version). I went back and forth between the FTL and 7S because some translation choices Urbs Celestial, Rex Spiritus, Nightgleam, Arbor Divinus, Jadehaem, etc were causing me to stumble a little bit and taking me out of the story. I’m not questioning or complaining about them- just a personal preference. I do still think it’s a really good translation and certainly will be reading/purchasing the remaining two novels.

*If anyone has read Panguan, Copper Coins, and this one- have you found any easter eggs? If so, please let me know...

"With heaven and earth as our witness, from now on, and across all lifetimes, we shall never forsake one another."

description

I’ll be honest, this one took some effort for me to get into. I even read the recap on danmeirecap.carrd.co beforehand, thinking it would help, and I still found myself confused. I had to reread multiple pages just to make sure I understood what was happening, and even after going back, I wasn’t always sure I fully got it. The world is layered and heavy with lore, and sometimes it felt like I was trying to piece together something just out of reach. I didn’t really feel fully invested until the last quarter. That’s when it finally clicked for me and I started turning pages because I wanted to, not because I was trying to keep up.

What kept me hanging on were the characters, especially Wu Xingxue and Xiao Fuxuan. Wu Xingxue moves through everything with this calm, almost playful composure, but you can feel the weight he’s carrying underneath. He jokes, he deflects, he acts unbothered, yet his instinct is always to protect, even if it means taking the guilt on himself. That really got to me. Xiao Fuxuan is more restrained, disciplined and precise, not someone who wastes words, but his actions are so clear. The loyalty, the quiet concessions, the way he stands by Wu Xingxue without needing to say much. Their connection feels deep and inevitable, shaped by shared history and memory, even when those memories fracture. It’s subtle and built on small gestures and silences, which made it feel intimate and meaningful.

The story grows bigger in this installment, touching on fate, divinity, and the consequences of trying to correct what’s already happened. Some sections were dense and slowed my reading pace, especially when the timelines and lore stacked on top of each other. But when the emotional threads finally came together, it hit hard. I appreciated how personal it still felt despite the larger cosmic themes. The cover completely hooked me the moment I saw it. It’s stunning and honestly one of the most beautiful on my shelf. And the bonus story? Chef’s kiss. It made all the effort feel worth it.

I feel like this volume, much like the first, was just okay up until the last bit. However, I feel like I know who the characters are a little better now so I think I’ll like the story more going forward. I will say it’s confusing that the translator/author switch between the characters name and title so frequently, but maybe that’s just a me issue

Another fun continuation of this story! We got to learn Wu Xingxue and Xiao Fuxuan's backgrounds and also how they know each other which was exciting. I enjoyed the mystery in this book as well. It was quite interesting though I am curious where our other little fiendling has run off to. I'll also be very curious to see what happens with Yi Wusheng and his story. All of the moments between Wu Xingxue and Xiao Fuxuan were so good. I love how their relationship is written. Everything they say to each other holds so much teasing and weight. If you like Heaven Official's Blesseing I think you'll love this book because to me it reads extremely similar to it. Like, AU fanfic level similar. I think it's just the nature of the genre. I will say this is still not my favorite genre (being so high fantasy) but it is firmly set in the mortal world and that helps quite a bit for me. Overall a fun time. Can't wait for the next book.

its weird cause i think its Fine. not amazing, i dont Love it but its just fine, i kinda like the two mcs but tbh i dont know if its worth to keep going for the next two volumes? esp if i just think its fine and nothing special

also likely an huge unpopular opinion but i do not care for the internal dialogue xingxue has with himself and i find most of it useless. i know its mainly for humour but im not like really laughing or scoffing at the jokes so its just meh. could easily go without that tbh

I couldn't review this actually when I finished it because it hadn't officially released and Forbidden Planet sent it out to me over a week before.

There was a lot going on here. Admittedly I thought it was going to be partly about something else but instead it went in another direction. I thought it was going to be about them encountering and going up against the new Archon but instead we got a lot of backstory and lore drops and information. I'm not complaining because, I swear, this story brings me so much joy. I'm always having a great time when I read it and I just love almost everything about it.

Honestly, when I started the first volume of this series it took me a couple of chapters but please just stick around with the world building and word choices (I’ve had to look up quite a few words while reading this lol) - this is a beautiful and captivating story so much so that I read this second volume in one sitting.
I’m a sucker for romance stories in general but the way the author writes the two main characters will have you swinging your feet giddy as heck! You can really feel the way the characters are truly soulmates in both their past and current selves while we delve into their mysterious backstories.

I will now sit in my thoughts feeling like there’s a hole in my heart as I wait for the official release of the next volume.

I love these two so much... you can truly feel how deep is their bond and it leaves you staring at the ceiling for a couple of hours (or days, or weeks, or months). It was so good how during the whole volume their past and present kept mixing. After the first volume I wished they had delved more into their past to know more about their story and this volume delivered. It was amazing. When everything clicked in chapter 43 and 44 I geniuly had to take # a moment.

Also that bonus chapter was one of the best things I have ever read. I swear these two have me climbing walls every time something is revealed.

3.3/5

Solutions to a mystery don't hit as hard when the mystery itself is revealed to the reader mere pages before. I know this danmei isn't very long, only four volumes, but if seeds of truth were planted at least at the beginning of a book, the effect would be much better.

I like the interactions between the main leads, but the plot itself is slowly losing me. I will continue reading only for the sake of those two, even though I'm getting a headache from all the flashbacks. My critiques from volume 1 still apply here

Okay… I don’t even know where to start. It’s been a while since I read Vol. 1, so jumping into this was confusing af for me.

Halfway through, I thought we were finally getting somewhere because I started to understand where the story was headed. And then… the second half turned into another confusing mess.

So at this point, either I’m the problem, or Mu Su Li genuinely writes confusing plots.

That said, I do enjoy the characters, and I loved the bonus scene. We’ll see what happens when Vol. 3 comes out, hopefully it’s not as confusing.

I thought that after the first book all the mystery reveals were over, but boooooy, was I wrong! It's mysteries all the way down.

I enjoyed this book more than the previous, since now the flashbacks and the relationship developments are meatier. Tons of good stuff to find about both protagonists and now I am really interested.
