MY HEART!! This volume honestly hit me really hard. I like this book in a different way than the previous ones. I felt all the emotions conveyed through the writing, and those emotions were expanded on through my own experiences. I related to the stress of studying for exams, and it really brought me back to my days in high school. Most of all, I could relate to Jiang Cheng and Gu Fei's anxiety about the future. I've wondered where I will be in one year, three years, five years. I've faced the worrt that time and differences in goals will separate me from someone I care about. The writing conveyed so much emotion, but never lingered too long in sorrow or happiness. Time seemed to blur around impactful moment. Reading this volume brought back a lot of memories where I felt similar emotions to the main characters.

The underlying feeling of uncertainty about the future made soft scenes between the main leads feel even more precious and meaningful. I wanted to hold on tight to mundane happiness and stay in the moment. Emotional and rough parts of the book were stressful, but they felt easier to bear because they were moments of connection. Instead of breaking the couple apart, they worked together, worked through the issue, and came out stronger. This book felt like if "what could have been" become reality. If the passing of time hadn't become an uncrossable distance, if the person you needed most was always there, if that one fight hadn't ruined everything. The main characters were dealing with their own problems, but their love and their effort to support each other made me believe they can overcome any obstacles— love conquers all. Despite the rollercoaster of emotions and all the stress this volume put me through, I was hopeful overall.

Not to ruin the flow of this review, but I do have to say I hate where Seven Seas ended this volume. I understand why they chose to end it at ch100, but ending right after ch98 (or even ch99) would have felt less abrupt. I was seriously all up in my feels during this volume, then I turned the last page and went "HUHH??" It was so abrupt I just stared at the page divider like "are you for real right now?" 😭 Anyway, I can't wait for volume 5!!!

I want to run wild without a care

In your eyes

I want one look to last

A lifetime

This was definitely my favourite Sa Ye novel yet. This was such an emotional read. On the one hand, there were so so many sweet and romantic moments between Jiang Cheng and Gu Fei. On the other hand, while they are growing closer together and falling deeper in love, they also start facing the challenges in their relationship which at times was truly heartbreaking.
Those challenges and fears were portrayed in such a realistic way that I as a reader started to feel anxious alongside those characters. I can't wait for the next volume to see how they will overcome those challenges.

As he stared at Gu Fei, Jiang Cheng felt like he was in a trance. He almost couldn't tell if the music he heard was in his ears, or if it was playing in his heart.

I love Gu Fei and Jiang Cheng SO much they're one of my favorite couples ever but... this volume was a little boring. I feel like this is suffering from the "contemporary danmei dragging things out way too long" thing that seems to be so standard. This entire volume was basically domestic fluff - which is awesome! I love some fluffy times and seeing a couple together - but now that the stakes are truly gone from this story, it feels very repetitive and I was losing interest very fast. The end got me excited again though as I'm assuming next volume they'll be going to college?? And I did really enjoy this volume for what it was - it just wasn't my favorite. But I can't wait for the next one!

The way Jiang Cheng treats studying is the way I treat this series. I haven't eaten, don't remember when I last looked up, who even knows what day it is? But it was worth every second.

Review of advance copy

My bookstore had this in early so naturally I couldn't buy a copy fast enough.

It was so good I finished it in a day.

Be warned though, this volume does tug at the heartstrings.

Everyone has experienced the stress of exams and watching Jiang Cheng prepare for his took me back in time.

Gu Fei’s pain when explaining to Jiang Cheng that he probably doesn’t have a future because he will have to care for his sister with learning disabilities brought tears to my eyes. Then Jiang Cheng becoming more determined to succeed in school so he can help them was so sweet.

On a side note, a massive shout out to Pan Zhi who is the best friend everyone deserves. Whenever he visits Jiang Cheng you know hilarious antics will take place.

It ends with the University Entrance Exam just around the corner and the tension/ stakes being higher than ever. To say I’m looking forward to volume 5 is an understatement.
