Lan Xichen is one of my favorite characters but it must mostly be in my head- or because of Liu Haikuan. He drove me crazy in the final scene at the temple. I do not ship him with JGY or Jiang Cheng but 100% with Mingjue (or me 🫣). And BTW Mingjue was 🥵 in this volume as a fierce corpse- and he was naked! Censored of course.

The ending was beautiful. I cried again when Sizhui told WWX who he was. All of LZ’s secrets were exposed by WWX in such a cute way and we got a sweet kiss. I’m happy to have collected these but after the final volume of the SE hardcover is released I am DONE. There is absolutely no need for another version of MDZS on my shelf in any form. I mean I want the last two volumes French versions but that is it.

And that, my friends, is Wangxian. Especially that passage is heartbreakingly tender because it captures that pivotal moment when you know love becomes irreversible, almost fated. Wei Wuxian’s smile, so full of life, and Lan Wangji’s quiet gaze that lingers, which says everything they’ve never needed to voice. They're so soulmates!
I've been saying this over and over again but there’s something achingly beautiful in how Wangxian’s story intertwines grief and joy, silence and laughter, rebellion and restraint, and in how love, in its purest form, triumphs over all of it. and so i’ve (once again) come to the end of mo dao zu shi (◞‸◟,)
i think, all things considered, this is a very decent adaptation of the source material—at the very least if you’re reading it having already gotten through the novel. mdzs is so heavy and saturated with all this world-building and terminology and lore, definitely what one would call high fantasy. usually i find series like that feel less satisfying in comic format (which remains true to an extent with this, i do prefer the novel) but i think this struck a pretty good balance. it’s not as overwhelming or intimidating as the novel, or bogged down by constant info-dumping, but it also isn’t entirely mindless and silly at every single turn. it knows when to be serious, or scary, or emotional.
also, i truly have no idea what the standards for censorship are in relation to manhua (cmiiw but it seems to be somewhere between the somewhat freedom of CN novels being published by houses like sevenseas and the extremity of fucking, like, drama adaptations) (it’s either this or they just decided not to adapt the sexual aspects of mdzs into manhua, which, kind of fair especially considering its…unconventional nature?). in any case, censorship sucks on the whole, but if we’re talking purely enjoyment factor, i thought this adaptation was pretty okay in the romance department. they went pretty far tbf, because most if not all of the kisses were adapted external to sex scenes, so i wasn’t really bothered by that personally.
i really liked the adaptation of the little night hunt scene after everything’s sorted. my first introduction to mdzs was the cdrama (which, while i love it dearly, and understand the constraints of censored chinese television), i always felt as though the ending was rushed, if a bit nonsensical. even if we couldn’t get the extras adapted, this feels like a fitting wangxian-esque ending, just as MXTX intended. just freaky enough to boot, yknow?

What do you MEAN this is the final volume 😭
This ending felt like getting punched softly in the heart. After all the suffering, misunderstandings, death, grief, and mutual pining, seeing them finally get peace together made me genuinely emotional. The art was gorgeous, the romance was insane in the quiet devastating way only MDZS can do, and every character goodbye hurt. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji altered my brain chemistry permanently. Ended the series smiling like an idiot and staring at the wall for ten minutes.

Ugh, I can’t believe this is the last volume. Finishing it honestly left me with that weird mix of happiness and sadness where I was glad to spend one more book with these characters, but also not ready to let them go. I’ve gotten so attached to Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji, and this volume really reminded me why. Their connection felt so comforting here. There’s a quiet understanding between them that made a lot of scenes hit me emotionally, and I loved seeing how much trust, care, and devotion has grown between them. Wei Wuxian felt especially moving to me in this one because he seems tired in such a human way, like he has carried so much for so long and is finally at a point where he cannot keep living inside old pain. Lan Wangji’s presence made all of that even stronger for me. He feels steady, loving, and completely sure of the person standing beside him. A lot of my favorite moments came from that emotional closeness, and it gave this volume a warmth that stayed with me even when everything around them felt tense and messy.
What kept this from being a higher rating for me is that this volume felt very crowded. So much is happening, and it comes one emotional blow after another. I still enjoyed it, but I also felt a little worn out by the pacing because there was barely any room to breathe. I wanted more time to sit with certain moments and just feel them before being pushed into the next big reveal or confrontation. Even so, I was really invested in the emotional side of the story. So many of these characters are carrying grief, anger, shame, love, and regret, and I could feel all of that on the page. Jiang Cheng especially hurt my heart. He’s one of those characters who frustrates me and breaks me at the same time, because so much of what he feels is tied to pain he does not know how to let go of. I also liked that the story lets complicated characters stay complicated. No one feels simple, and even the characters who made me angry still felt deeply human. That gave the ending a lot of weight for me, even when I was feeling emotionally overwhelmed by it.
I did enjoy it, and there were parts that genuinely moved me, but it didn’t come together in a way that fully satisfied me. I loved the emotional payoff, I loved the romantic resolution, and I loved getting those final moments with characters I’ve cared about for so long. At the same time, I finished it feeling a little drained, and not fully at peace with everything. Maybe that feeling fits this story, because it has always carried so much heartbreak alongside the love. Still, I’m really glad I read it, and I know this series is going to stay with me. Since I finished this and I’m still waiting for the 5th volume of the novel’s deluxe hardcover, I might just re-watch The Untamed or the donghua. This series is so blessed with adaptations, and honestly, I’m not ready to leave this world yet.

Nadie me va a quitar de la cabeza que Nie Huai Sang creo el mejor plan de venganza de la historia 🔥🛐
Al fin damos un cierre a esta increíble historia, que al inicio fue tan confusa pero poco a poco iba agarrando el ritmo y encajando las piezas.
Me duele mucho todo lo que tuvo que pasar Wei Wuxian para tener ese "final" feliz, todo lo que tuvo que perder en su primera vida y lo que lo acompañó en su segunda vida, fue una curita al corazón.
Me sigue pareciendo loco que el villano tuvo que ser un empujón para que se diera cuento de los sentimientos de Lan Wangji 🤭🤣 no lo supero todavía.

I know I already knew everything that was going to happen in this book, but I loved seeing the art of it!!! It stayed very true to the source material, so it was so nice to see JGY get his just desserts lol. And LWJ and WWX get their HEA!!

June 24, 2026Everything was explained in this one, a proper conclusion. Unfortunately, I remain confused by the plot. The couple was cute though, that part made sense so it's not nothing! The main pb was that it was very difficult to follow the timeline, it kept going back and forth but it wasn't clear that the timeline was non-linear. It was strange. So many characters who have so many names did not help either.

Still heavily edited, but still plenty of cutsey scenes even in the midst of all the chaos - watch for the hearts around Wuxian. It's also rather adorable to see Wuxian's concern for Jin Ling and the struggle Jiang Cheng goes through with his anger and the realizations from Wuxian's history that turned the tides against them previously. Lan Wangji seems pleased with the overall outcome of events though, especially as he's able to protect Wuxian and basically gets him to himself after. The Ghost General has a very small spotlight in this volume solely for the final battle and A-Yuan's memories at the very end. A good deal of the story actually focuses on Wuxian's own inner musings as he pieces together regarding Nie Huaisang's part in everything, though without any definitive proof, it's all just speculation. There is also a lot less regarding any of their adventures together after this battle as Wuxian and Wangji travel together, though it does make it clear that they remain together and most definitely a couple at this point. Just took a very long time for them to get there and stay on the same page. A bit sad to realize that this is the end of the series as it's truly been enjoyable to see these characters come to life again through the artwork.

Can't believe this series has come to an end! This has been such a fun ride and I'm going to miss these releases! As usual, I love the art style and how emotions are conveyed through the artwork, and I love the little moments of humour interspersed throughout! I do still think this series wouldn't be overly accessible/would be hard to follow for people who haven't already read the novels, as things can get quite choppy and slightly all over the place at times, but I had a great time with this series!

The end of an era.
This is the last volume of the manhua adaptation of MDZS, and now that I have read it, I feel like I'm done. I have read a fan-translated version of MDZS, the official English version, the official English version of the manhua, and I have seen 'The Untamed'. That just leaves the audio drama, the donghua and the manga version of MDZS. I'm pretty confident that at some point we will get an official English version of the manga as well once it has a few volumes out, because this entire franchise continues to be very popular, so I'm pretty sure that that is in the pipeline - but for now, I think it's time to let this go atleast for a little while. Maybe in a few years or months, when I feel nostalgic for WangXian once more, I'll decide to finally finish watching the donghua or maybe start reading the manga or decide to re-watch 'The Untamed', who knows? This story means a lot to me, and it will continue to mean all those things.
The last volume of the manhua leaves out a pretty critical plot point — before the novel ends, we realise that the only reason Jiang Cheng got his core destroyed is because he chanced upon Wen guards being suspicious of a figure that was actually Wei Wuxian; he creates a diversion to draw their attention from WWX but ends up getting captured himself. This reveal is one of those things that makes MDZS what it is.
It is a complicated, layered story which doesn't absolve any character's actions. It's interesting to see how even characters whose motivations stemmed from love still end up in situations that end up destroying the very relationships they were trying to save. I don't think I realised before how much this story doesn't want you to believe that Jin Guangyao is the source of all that's bad in the world, as the showdown is happening we get multiple characters belittling JGY as the son of a whore and reading that scene in the manhua made me realise that the author is silently condemning the society itself that is unable to see a man such as JGY who raised himself from the literal dirt to become the head of the Cultivation World as anything more than the son of a whore, it makes you ask the question that if society was a little more forgiving maybe JGY wouldn't have been tempted to go to the extremes he does.
I have read the story so many times and in so many ways that I have gotten lost in the specifics of it, but MDZS at its heart is a big-picture kind of story. The story forces you to see the way events go down in this world and reckon with the truth at the heart of narratives people build around situations, circumstances and people; so that the next time a narrative is presented, you realise that the truth at the heart of it is either the weapon itself or the very thing being obfuscated to build the weapon.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend the manhua as a starting point into this universe; I still feel like the novel is the best introduction to this story, even though it wasn't my introduction to the story. The manhua is great if you have the added context that the novel provides; otherwise, it does tend to get a bit confusing at times. I don't think it completely supplants the novel in any way; it is more of an accessory than the main event itself.

Jiang Cheng es uno de los personajes que menos me gusta pro al mismo tiempo me gusta, es muy contradictorio. Entiendo mucho su actitud de joven y luego de adulto, vivió a la sombra de WiFi porque culpa de ambos padres. Porque mientras la mamá le vivía recalcando que no era suficiente y que no era mejor que WiFi (según ella era lo que el padre pensaba lo) y luego el padre, que nunca decía nada... De ahí nace esa inseguridad y capaz algo de envidia/rencor contra WiFi, que solo se alimentó con lo que sucedió después. Al siempre tb reprimir sus emociones, no sabía cómo acercarse a WiFi y aún para el final, puede expresar un poco todo lo que sentía. Esa relación jamás volverá a ser la misma.
Lan Xichen un personaje que me gusta pro al mismo tiempo no. A lo largo de la historia, sientes que apoya a su hermano pro al mismo tiempo, entre líneas pensaba que WiFi no era bueno para él y bueno con todo lo q pasó luego, fue a peor. El si podía criticar a WiFi, pero cuando le empezaron a decir las cosas que hizo la guayaba (inclusive su otro hermano jurado) aplicó la de "si no lo veo, no pasó" y aún para el final, quiso seguir creyendole a la guayaba.
Jin Ling, mi pobre niño... Lo quería abrazar cada dos por tres, crecer con un tío que estaba lleno de odio, debió ser muy difícil y por eso no sabe tampoco expresarse.
Y bueno mi pareja adorada, esos besos que se dieron en este tomo... Uffff... Todo bien....de ellos solo exigía que saquen los extras jajajaja...
