Five grueling years later, the alien Cripbons have squashed all hope for their prisoners, human and Venyex, of ever returning home. Providing military support in exchange for home was a lie. To survive in the xenophobic underground city, Captain Nashtara Jalligam has adapted to their captors. Problem is, she has lost sight of what matters: escape.
Tirst Koryr hates her even more for it.
A dreadful secret uncovered after an orbital attack fractures Commander Cort Dan and Major Briyar Osgai’s tense leadership, affecting the chain of command as events escalate.
In this gripping race for freedom, fought from fighter cockpits, the combat-proven ship Namragj, and in dark tunnels, hope is constantly under fire.
But the fight isn’t over. Not until what’s left of the Namragj’s crew gives up.

The conclusion to this space opera military sci fi epic is coming May 15th, 2026.
For fans of Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars, and The Expanse. This story will hit strong and pull emotional strings you didn't even know you had.
Veterinarian by day, author by night. And chaos controller all day. Mother of two and a half, she’s married to a former US National Guard who firmly believes every book is better with mechs in it. Ana's novels are filled with character, high (and small) stakes, and just enough cool tech and science to keep it real. Ana is also a lover of the great outdoors beyond Earth, sunny days, good food, mountain hikes, and all long-nosed dog breeds—especially those weird Borzoi.
Her first duology is out. Next up: a prequel novella: First Mission.

WELL… where do you even start with reviewing this book?! If you love the Expanse, or even more recently, James SA Corey’s Captive War series, you’ll love these books! Both War and Hope Beyond Galaxies are incredible sci-fi books that keep you entertained throughout the entire read, once you pick it up you can’t put it down. This book continues the epic adventure of the human and Venyex crew across galaxies. The author has created a world where you feel every emotion of the characters; it still leaves you with trust issues (in a good way) and keeps the reader guessing. My favourite astrophysicist (no spoilers) really comes into his own in this book. There’s twists, there’s turns, there’s space battles, military tactics, a lil sprinkle of politics, deep thought provoking themes about what the universe will be like for humans in the future; and an abundance of human quotes that the book really does make you realise, aliens would not understand us!
In my opinion, this book is even better than the first (which I loved) and I cannot WAIT to see where the author takes us next!!
Thank you Ana for the early ARC copy, but I will be getting a copy of this duology for my bookshelf too!
I loved this book just as much as the first one—that is, a whole lot. It’s just as action-packed and unpredictable, but what stood out to me most this time was the characters.
Ana del Alamo does an excellent job showing that people aren’t one-dimensional, especially over time and under pressure. Her characters move through the emotional highs and lows of strength and weakness, patience and impatience in ways that feel incredibly real. By the end, I felt like I truly understood and deeply cared about each of them.
I haven’t been this sad to finish a book in a long time. I’m going to miss these characters so much!
Set five years after the events of book one, Hope Beyond Galaxies by Ana del Alamo returns with even higher stakes, larger-scale conflict, and powerful emotional depth. This sequel expands the universe in thrilling ways, delivering intense space battles that feel cinematic while never losing sight of the human stories at the centre of it all.
What makes this story stand out is the way it tackles morality against ethics in the middle of war and survival. The characters are constantly forced to question what sacrifices are acceptable, where loyalty truly lies, and whether doing the “right” thing is always possible in impossible circumstances. Those dilemmas add so much weight to every decision and make the story feel far more than just an action-packed sci-fi adventure.
The battle scenes are some of the strongest parts of the novel — chaotic, gripping, and vividly written — but it’s the emotional consequences behind them that linger long after the final page. Ana del Alamo balances explosive action with thoughtful themes, creating a sequel that feels bigger, darker, and even more impactful than the first book.
For readers who love character-driven science fiction filled with strategy, sacrifice, and morally grey choices, Hope Beyond Galaxies absolutely delivers
I enjoyed Hope Beyond Galaxies. It was a great continuation. The story is good and the concept is strong. The cover is good. I am still not overly keen on real people on the cover but it works well here and it does not effect my review in any way at all. I do like the colours and they give me lots of space vibes! The writing is good and the story flows well. The imagery and descriptions were strong. The tone was excellent overall. I liked the setting. Ana's continued world-building is tremendous and she does that so well. The characters were great. I can't help loving Cort Dan he's great. I like Nashtara as well. I definitely recommend this book.
I loved this story so much. Hope Beyond Galaxies concludes the Starbattle Legacies duology, with the first book being War Beyond Galaxies, which was already such a fantastic read, and this sequel somehow expands that world even more!!!
We meet so many different species in this book, and it completely blows the world open in the best way possible. There’s so much scope for Anna to continue exploring these intergalactic forces she’s created, and it genuinely makes the universe feel massive and alive.
I also really loved that we picked up five years later. At first, I wasn’t sure how I would feel about that because the first book ended on such a heavy note and I wanted to sit in that aftermath longer, but honestly, it worked so well. In the first book, I feel like we really came to understand Cort's and Nashtara’s relationship, and how they represented the good within both the humans and the Venyx. We saw how deeply their races were against each other, but Cort and Nash represented the possibility of resolution and peace between them, and I think Hope Beyond Galaxies expanded on that beautifully. The title itself ties in so perfectly because for the first time in so long, these characters actually find hope beyond everything they’ve known.
I also loved how Aerik and Trist were used throughout this story. Even though we’ve become so attached to this found family group and their relationships with one another, Aerik and Trist really felt like reminders of what humanity and Venyx culture still look like back home. They represented the ongoing discourse between their species and their planets, and I thought that metaphor was woven into the story so well because our main cast has become so close and so removed from home that it would’ve been easy to forget the tension still exists. Their dynamics constantly reminded the reader of that divide while also showing how complicated and emotional it all is.
And honestly, one of my favourite parts of this book was how much deeper we went into Briyar and Nash's relationship. In the first book, Briyar felt so rigid and tied to his rank and training, which made complete sense for his character, but in this book we truly get to see him as a person and as a partner to Neshara. We see his place within the group so much more clearly, and I loved how he constantly approached situations through an ethics versus morality lens, but in a way that felt empathetic rather than purely diplomatic like we saw before.
I absolutely loved all the different alien species, the politics, the complications, the betrayals, and all the emotional moments throughout this story. But what really stuck with me was the ending and the emphasis that Earth would eventually feel too small after everything these characters had experienced in space. I thought that was such a beautiful way to encapsulate not only what the characters were feeling, but also what the readers were feeling by the end of this journey. These characters spent so long desperately trying to get home, only to realise along the way that maybe they had changed too much to fit back into the version of home they once knew. Their home changed, but they changed too, and I thought that was such a powerful and emotional conclusion to this duology.
This was a brilliantly written book, and I genuinely cannot wait for the world to experience it.
Hope, consequence and character come together in a sequel that not only builds on everything that came before, but genuinely ELEVATES it. Ana writes with this quiet confidence that just pulls you in, making the story feel both huge in scale and deeply personal at the same time. I devoured this in just over a week, which honestly says everything. Nash continues to be such a compelling lead, shaped by the weight of her choices, while Cort Dan’s internal struggle adds some of the most gripping tension in the book. The world feels richer, the stakes feel sharper, and every decision carries real weight.
What stood out most for me is just how much this story makes you FEEL. The emotional depth hits harder, the relationships feel more layered, and the idea of hope is explored in a way that feels earned, not handed to you. There is a real maturity to the storytelling, where the quieter moments land just as powerfully as the action, and that balance kept me completely hooked from start to finish!! The moments where escape starts to feel possible, but never safe, really stood out, especially with the constant uncertainty surrounding Briyar adding tension beneath everything.
A powerful, thoughtful sequel that proves this duology is something genuinely special, and I am ALL IN for what comes next.
I was already a big fan of the first book, but Hope Beyond Galaxies is a truly fantastic conclusion to the Starbattle Legacy duology.
The story picks up after a five year gap, and that time jump adds so much weight to everything the characters have endured. Ana del Alamo is a friggin master of dialogue and knows exactly how to craft emotional scenes that hit just right without ever feeling forced or over the top. The world building in this sequel is awesome. We travel to various planets and alien locations, with each one feeling super distinct. It reminded me of that classic Star Wars feeling - moving from Tatooine to Dagobah to Endor, where every environment has its own personality. The sense of scale is huge, but the story stays focused on the characters we've come to love.
Watching Nash’s development throughout this journey was a major highlight for me. She is a solid, relatable protagonist, and her relationships with the rest of the crew (good and bad) are a highpoint. The combat scenes are heart-pounding, but it’s the raw emotions and interactions between the characters that really make this book resonate.
The ending left me wanting nothing more than to spend another few years in the universe just to see what happens to Nash, Briyar, and Cort Dan. If you enjoy sci-fi with fast paced action and deep emotional stakes, you definitely need to pick this up.
This story was utterly amazing. I'd give it 6 stars if I could. Everything about this story drew me in, ensnared me, and wouldn't let me go. I could not put it down.
I'd read book one earlier this year and absolutely loved it, so I knew this was going to be good. What I didn't expect was how immersed and emotionally affected by it I'd be.
Nash was our brilliant FMC. She is my alter-ego, like Starbucks from Battlestar Galactica, but more likeable. The characterisation of all six main characters was fantastic. I loved all of them, even Tirst. And the group dynamic was so wonderfully put together.
The plot starts five years from the end of book one, and what we get is an epic escape, intense arguments, questionable loyalties, heartache, and hope. This is the best sci-fi action book I've ever read.
This story was by no means a sci-fi romance, but the relationship between Nash and Briyar kept me on my toes, and I already adored the strange and growing relationship between Nash and Cort. The ending had me divided (in a good way), which just shows how well thought out this whole book is.
I'm not sure what to do with my life now. But honestly, just go read this duology. It's amazing.
This is a brilliant sequel to War Beyond Galaxies! If you love Murderbot, The Expanse, Battlestar Galactica, and the like, please pick this series up! It's a wonderfully complex plot and deep story with a straightforward writing style. There isn't a lot of flourish or metaphor but it is no less enthralling. The relationships continue to shift and grow in this book; this is enemies to reluctant allies to tentative teammates to found family. This touches on the complexities of romance in a power hierarchy and the intricacies of navigating not only different cultures but different species. It tells the story of a mixed group of people stuck in a hostile environment, barely holding on and struggling to survive hardship, oppression, anxiety, and depression after being thrown across the galaxy. The tension is always high, even in the non action scenes. The author only needs a few sentences to make you feel calm and just on the edge of relaxed or touched by anger and grief. The lines between right and wrong are not clean and love and hate are just as blurry. Please pick this up! I cannot stress enough how urgently everyone should give this a chance!
This isn’t just the end of a duology. It’s the kind of finale that leaves you hugging the book afterwards, just a few more seconds or comfort.
I laughed, I cried, I pumped my fist like a maniac... sometimes all on the same page. From the start, Ana yanks you into the chaos and makes you feel every desperate choice, every near-miss, every heart-in-your-throat moment. I understood exactly why the characters did what they did, even when I wanted to yell at them (lovingly). And through every disaster and detour? I was screaming, “GO, TEAM, GO.”
Here’s the thing: I don’t need a rainbow-and-unicorns ending. I need ones that are smart, earned, and made me nod like a satisfied space-captain. Hope Beyond Galaxies delivers that in spades. Logical, brutal, beautiful.
By the end, you’re not just reading about Nash and her crew. You’re in the pilot’s seat with them, feeling every jolt, every victory, and every gut-punch in your own ribs. Buckle up!
Hope Beyond Galaxies by Ana del Álamo is the sequel to War Beyond Galaxies. The main characters return, in the story but not to their original location.
Ana keeps up the pace, and now she builds a whole new interesting world. All the good stuff from book 1 is still here: believable tech, great characters and all the banter & clashing that creates three-dimensional people.
I like Cort. He is really something else: highly intelligent, arrogant, self-confident...oh, and he is not human. There I said it. The way he challenges others, mentally or airborne, is truly one of his best qualities. And the team needs someone like that, to survive.
Ana, if you're reading this: some choices you made, pulled on my emotional chords. I got frustrated, excited & dissapointed...and sad. Still, I love these Starbattle Legacy books!.
I recommend this book to people who like space scifi, great action scenes and characters who work together but don't necessarily trust or like each other.
Got the pleasure to read an arc copy of this book.
How to put into words the journey from not only this book but the series. This is beyond a read it is an experience. The world building is easy to follow but really the magic is the storytelling. Creating that human connection to the world in various encounters and dire situations.
The level of character depth and development is unreal. Remarkable honestly, I was so involved into the characters and with a smaller cast there is a ton of work on building wash individual up. I felt like a part of the journey wanting to know what was next and invested into everything.
Highly recommend pretty awesome space experience with outstanding characters and enough action to keep you glued to the pages. Plus on top as the book says Hope and that is a beautiful thing.
Hope Beyond Galaxies, I don't even know where to start. It kept me thoroughly on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book, with wanting to know more about the world, about what would happen with the crew, and who they interacted with. It was a rollercoaster of emotions while reading this and I completely loved it. It had the perfect mixture of combat, exploring and comedy, while still having all the tension from before. I knew this book would be good, but I didn't expect it to resonate so much with me even after reading it, I still want more. I had questions answered from War Beyond Galaxies, but more questions about the universe. So I would definitely suggest this to everyone who may read this, cause you won't regret it.
Much like the cast at the end of the first book, I had no idea where this book was going to go, which always makes me a bit apprehensive as a reader. However, I was immediately sucked back into the world and story and really enjoyed the ride.
It's always hard to say much about a sequel without spoilers, but I loved the way the character's relationships grew and changed. Nash and Briyar's relationship is very refreshing and mature, and it was really heartwarming to see the ways the two halves of the crew became one, strong unit. Their personalities and dynamics really shine through as they approach the various challenges thrown their way. It really is a hopeful story and it has so much heart.
Hope Beyond Galaxies is the finale to one of my fave books of 2025!
Set 5 years after the first book, we get epic alien civilisations, building on the complicated found family from book 1 and an epic space adventure as the team navigate getting back to their respective galaxy.
The action in this series is brilliant and the complexity of relationships really well explored - particularly long term under pressure love. It’s not something you see in most books and I appreciate the rawness of it.
I am going to be honest 🤣 I really thought it was going a different way at the end, but the FMC had a journey to make and it was hers and not mine 🙊 but like… #teamcort
I’m going to miss him. Sad to see this story end. It truly is an unforgettable experience.
What an incredible book, I enjoyed this one as much if not more than the first novel. seeing how Nash developed from the start of the first book to the end of the second was a real journey. The dynamic of the humans and venyex has shifted so much in this novel, it was so interesting to see how everyone continued to evolve. The ending to the book and series was executed so well, I wish there were more books only because I loved the world so much I want to read more of it. If you enjoyed the first book you will absolutely love the second.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review, so here is mine!
This book is incredible. I didn’t think it would beat the first one, but I liked it more. Although it gets off to a bit of a slower start, it picks up and never relents after that. The characters are all flawed, are all unique, and feel real. I still don’t particularly love the main male character, but that’s more of a personal preference.
The aliens are fun and creative, the stakes are high, and the book keeps you on the edge of your seat! The author delivers a great ending to an exciting story. Full 5/5 for me.
A book about change. About the importance of freedom. Our characters find themselves trapped in a world that sees them as enemies, as nothing more than scumbag and they have to fight their way out. It puts everything at risk including the relationships they fought to create. We see how trauma, pain and isolation doesn't always bring you together. Sometimes it pushes you apart. And you need to learn how to work with yourself before acknowledging the damage you do to those around you. Trust is a fragile thing that you can lose at any steps.
To start, this book is not ‘industry clean’ for language and CH 9 has an open door scene.
Excellent action, adventure, world building, and heart. The developments on the alien civilizations, and the moral questions raised by the actions of the the members of the Namraj. Excellent foils in aliens and in humans.
Ah! I want to share so many spoilers 🥰 but you’ll have to read it to gasp, flinch, hope, cry, scream, and see what it means to a human in the galaxy 🥰
Thorougly enjoyed this book. I loved the main characters and the loyalty they had towards each other. But as always there is a catch within the family. The escapes and life threathening situations were there. The betrayal and the friendships were there. This book will not stop war but maybe a seed has been planted... Bittersweet ending, I hoped to hear from the venyex in the epilogue and I thought the ending was a bit rushed. But the overall story was wonderful.
I really enjoyed the first book and this one continues the trend, but with an absolutely killer ending! We pick up 5 years after the 1st book and follow the fraught journey of Nash and company back to the Milky Way, encountering a whole plethora of aliens, allies, and enemies along the way. In true Ana style, the characters, their struggles, weaknesses, and how they overcome them (or not) are fantastic and the ending was just SOOO good... although I do now of course need more! In particular, Nash's relationship with [a certain someone] is so wonderfully messy and human, which makes the end so much more satisfying. I highly recommend this duology to folk who want some awesome sci-fi, but where the characters really are the heart and soul of the story. Actually, to be honest, I just recommend this to anyone!
What a brilliant sequel! This is my favourite duology of recent years.
Set five years after the first book ends, we learn more about what happened to the survivors. Seeing how time has changed some - and left others the same - the character development is just spot on.
The remarkable world building continues and still doesn't feel too heavy handed. We are guided into seeing how things are, rather than having it smashed over our heads.
The ending ties everything together nicely and I'm sad to see the characters go, but glad for the ending.
