Grief drove them away. But starting again comes at a price.
When Melanie and Gareth Sayer move with their daughter to a Welsh coastal village, it looks like the perfect place to heal old wounds. The sea air, the new business, the promise of a quieter life… but will the past let go?
Their new beginning is soon poisoned by the return of an old school friend. Gareth is unsettled by the reappearance of Delyth Powell, while Melanie finds her kind and welcoming. Then a message arrives, one that only Gareth understands, and it's clear Delyth knows a secret from his past. Something he has kept hidden for years.
As tensions rise and loyalties fracture, Melanie no longer knows who to her husband, whose temper is flaring under the pressure, or the woman who claims to be her confidant. And when the truth finally comes out, it will shatter everything.
Perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell and Adele Parks, No Place to Hide is a gripping psychological thriller about buried secrets, dangerous friendships and how well we really know the people we love.
No Place to Hide was originally self-published under the title Cry Baby.
Oh I do like a psychological thriller with a twist tale and this one did not disappoint. Who is telling the truth?? A really fast paced page turner to get you through these dark nights.
The book starts off with a young family moving to a small clannish village, where all the locals are like sheep and huddle together for fear of “imposters”. No-one is especially helpful or friendly, apart from an odd bod called Delyth. She worms her way into Melanie’s life and because she feels sorry for her she accepts her.
Melanie and her family have just bought a run down pub which they are renovating and are hoping to open shortly. Gareth works away during the week so Melanie has to hold the fort and with the help of Delyth who appears to be an old school friend of Gareth’s, she muddles along.
However, it’s not long before the secrets and lies are discovered, things from Gareth’s past come to light, and start to cause tension. So much for a long awaited new start for them all.
As I rattled through this book, I could see exactly what was going on, and certain folk I could have quite happily punched! Melanie is too quick to judge and quite pathetic really, and typical of a clannish community a lot of them are two faced.
Towards the end I could feel myself running out of patience and just wanted to finish the book to see if anyone got their comeuppance.
My thanks to the publishers and the author for the ARC .
I really enjoyed this book by Rebecca Griffiths as always Rebecca does not disappoint, from the first page I did not want to put down as moved in a nice steady pace to keep you hooked. When Gareth takes his wife Melanie and daughter Georgie to his hometown in Wales to renovate a gastro pub and have a new start and start to put the bad memories behind them and start a new chapter in their lives together. I love the way this book was written, I love it when the author catapults me into the pages of the book and in my imagination, I can see the story unfolding and really connect with the characters. I would definitely recommend this book.
This book really gripped me with its twists & turns, I absolutely loved it It so easy to understand how Melanie became so confused (and scared of and worried about) her husband Gareth. Unfortunately at times he didn’t help himself and some of his reactions obviously led Melanie to think the worse however as things finally ended the truth did come out and the person who was causing so much misery was found out. The highs & lows of this book kept me turning the pages and it was an excellent read. Hats off to Rebecca Griffiths for a fabulous read.
Gripping and I thoroughly enjoyed this read, was kept guessing all through the story, very dark in places, actually took a likeness to the person that may have been the guilty one!!!I Thought the way Rebecca described the location where the story took place was amazing, I felt I was there in that Welsh coastal town with the characters, especially the description of Winter weather close to a Pembrokeshire coast. I have enjoyed all Rebecca’s novels and look forward to many more.
This was my first book by Rebecca Griffiths, as far as I am aware, and I did really enjoy it! I am a sucker for stories that play in secluded areas, so the location being a Welsh coastal village was the cherry on top of the cake, so to say. The story was also full of twists and turns, leaving me questioning whom I could really trust, in the end, and whom not. Very well done!
Great descriptions of the settings the story takes place and well written characters that made you question if you should like them or not are just a couple of the things that made this twisty thriller a page turner that doesn't let you put it down. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
Gripping and pacy. it kept me turning the pages long into the night. This is a brilliant story with brilliant characters that I keep thinking about long after I turned the final page. Psychological thriller writing at its best. Highly recommend!
Gripping! Perfect for the genre and if you're looking for a fast paced read that will keep you turning the pages! Highly recommend. Thank you to Bloodhound for ARC. This book deserves to do very well, it's a great read. Thanks to publisher and author.
