Bonnie and Clyde took part in plenty of brazen heists during their short lives. From small-town filling stations to rural banks, they left behind a trail of chaos and carnage in their wake. Initially, the public seemed rather intrigued by this pair of romantically involved desperadoes, thumbing their noses at authority during the depths of the Great Depression. But the rising death toll of their victims—gunned down in the process of their robberies and escapes—soon soured public opinion. What had once seemed like a daring adventure turned dark as innocent bystanders and law enforcement officers alike fell before the couple's guns.

Before long, loud calls for their apprehension were being made, and the police were basically given a blank check to do whatever they felt necessary to capture the pair, dead or alive. The authorities took the gloves off, and in a move that remains controversial to this day, they essentially ambushed Bonnie and Clyde, gunning them down in the middle of a rural highway. This is their life—this is their story.

What a shame

These 2 came into the under harsh conditions. It seems like they both probably had some undiagnosed mental health issues. He definitely did. She was one of those women who stuck by her man until it literally killed her. That mentality is not normal. He had things happen to him in prison that was traumatic and back then, there was no counseling or trauma care. That certainly changed him. I've always wondered how their deaths didn't trigger some outrage since it wasn't legal to ambush them. It wasn't a shootout. It was an ambush. So many human rights violations. Like the book said, the police members involved in this were acting like vigilantes. Apparently, local, state and federal officials turned a blind eye to the criminality of this event. State and federal laws be damned. In the end, Bonnie and Clyde paid for their crimes. They lived by the sword and died by it.

Notorious Criminals for a Short Time

This book begins with the childhood of Bonnie and Clyde. Both grew up in poverty in urban Texas. Clyde was involved in criminal activity from an early age while Bonnie did not commit crimes until her association with Clyde Barrow. Between 1932 and 1932 the couple rob banks , gas stations, and small shops. In the beginning they captured the imagination of the public who romanticized about this notorious couple. After murdering at least 14 people, they became public enemy number one. They made the mistake of leaving photos of themselves behind for law enforcement to discover. Soon these photos were in every newspaper and magazine in the country. They were required to stay hidden constantly. As they drove on a road outside of Shreveport, Louisiana, the police fired one hundred and thirty bullets into their vehicle. This brought their crime spree to an end. This couple has been the subject of books, movies and television shows.

Cigar smoking auntie

As a child my father often spoke of great aunt that smoked cigars and robbed banks and my mother would berate him saying, “Don’t fill him with stories like that “.
Women in my family often fell for bad boys.🥺

Once again I knew a very small part of the history, of Bonnie and Clyde, but I was fascinated by the gaps being filled in by this little volume. Covers a lot of ground in an interesting and concise manner.

Another view of crimes

I remember seeing the original movie in the theatre years ago , this portrayal only slightly
differs from it but also emphasized in many ways the brutality of their criminal career .

!!!

You might be the only person condemning law enforcement for killing Bonnie and Clyde....... They killed numerous innocent win cold blood. Maybe you think the law men should have waited until some of themselves were killed first??

BONNIE & CLYDE

Nice summary of the crime duo. Only two years, and such infamy. Good summary. Couple of photos, which are available, would have helped.

The story is amazing. Never guessed the story as it was told in the book. The impulse decisions made by the criminals and by law enforcement really shed a light on the whole episode.
