Love to Alice

Rate this book
Sometimes the most beautiful beginnings blossom from heartbreak.

Finding her life suddenly shattered, twenty-eight-year-old Alice is stunned to discover she’s inherited her beloved late Aunt Lucy’s lakefront home in White Rock, Muskoka.

Alice hopes the quiet northern town will help her find her footing again and ease the crippling panic attacks she’s been having. Instead, it hands her surprises she couldn’t have anticipated — including David, a handsome local who steals her attention, and a buried family secret that makes her question the trust she had with the people she loved the most.

And then there’s Jordan Beck.

Jordan, a local police officer with a guarded heart and a past that’s damaged him deeply, becomes Alice’s unexpected source of comfort. Their easy friendship deepens into something warmer, brighter… and far more dangerous to the walls he’s spent years building.

Just as Alice begins to believe she might have a future in Muskoka — and maybe with Jordan — their lives take a devastating turn.
Will the weight of their pasts be the wrecking ball to their future, or will love be the salvation they never saw coming?

Set among the sparkling lakes of Muskoka, Ontario, this heartfelt contemporary romance is a story of second chances, buried secrets, and the courage it takes to open your heart again. Perfect for fans of small-town charm, slow-burn chemistry, and emotionally rich love stories.

There is something really special about reading a story that feels close to home—and Love, To Alice did exactly that for me.

Set in the Port Carling area of Muskoka, this book is rooted in that unmistakable cottage-country feeling—quiet mornings, sparkling lakes, and the kind of atmosphere that makes everything feel a little more emotional, a little more real.

At its core, this is a story about starting over after everything falls apart. After inheriting her aunt’s lakefront home, Alice arrives in Muskoka hoping to heal—but instead finds herself facing grief, buried family secrets, unexpected love, and pieces of herself she didn’t even realize were missing.

What stood out most to me was how much this story explores:
💔 loss, grief, and heartache
🤍 mother/daughter dynamics
🌈 identity and coming out
👯‍♀️ found family and belonging
💞 slow-burn, emotionally layered relationships

It’s not just a romance—it’s a story about healing, trust, and learning to open your heart again after it’s been broken.

And for me, the setting made it even more meaningful. Knowing these places, being able to picture it all so clearly—it added such a personal layer to the reading experience. It actually reminded me of the feeling I had reading Every Summer After—that deep, nostalgic connection to place and memory, and how small the world can feel sometimes.

The fact that I picked this up directly from the author at a local event made it even more special 🤍

Already planning to have La read this at her family cottage near Port Carling this summer because it just feels like the perfect place for it.

If you love:
☀️ small-town, lakeside settings
💭 emotional, character-driven stories
💌 slow-burn romance with depth

this is one to add to your summer reading list.

This book was entertaining from start to finish, offering the perfect mix of romance, emotion, charm, and escapism. It has that rare quality of feeling like a warm hug on a cool day.

What makes it stand out is how effortlessly it draws you in with excellent character development. The story doesn’t ask too much of the reader, yet it still leaves a lasting impression. There is a softness to the writing and an authenticity that makes it easy to settle into, like slipping under a cozy blanket. Even when the story touches on heavier themes such as grief, loss, and personal growth, it handles them with a gentle touch, never feeling too heavy.

The author also adds charming little details that make the reading experience even more enjoyable, such as the beautiful hand-drawn pine cone at the beginning of a chapter. Moments of humor are woven in perfectly as well—I laughed out loud when one of the ladies exclaimed, “lawd thundering Jesus.” These unique and thoughtful touches give the story warmth and personality.

The warmth of the story also shines through its characters. Their relationships feel genuine and supportive, creating that reassuring sense that everything will work out in the end. It is the kind of book you reach for when you want to relax, unwind, and feel a little brighter by the final page.

Overall, this is an easy, heartwarming read that leaves you feeling content and comforted—perfect for a quiet rainy afternoon or a lazy summer evening. Hats off to Erin, this talented and thoughtful new writer. We are certainly looking forward to the next book. Jan

Love to Alice is a heartfelt, introspective read that thoughtfully explores themes of love, identity, and emotional connection in a deeply personal way. The writing feels intimate, almost like being invited into a private conversation, which makes the experience especially immersive.
Erin Henderson does an excellent job capturing the complexities of relationships. The subtle emotions, the unspoken tensions, and the quiet moments that often carry the most meaning. The emotional tone remains consistent throughout, creating a cohesive and authentic feel.
The pacing is gentle and reflective, giving the reader space to sit with the ideas and emotions rather than rushing through them. It’s the kind of book that encourages you to slow down and think, making it both calming and impactful.
Overall, Love to Alice is a moving and sincere exploration of connection and self-understanding. I’d recommend it to anyone who appreciates character-driven, emotionally rich writing.

I really enjoyed this read. I have mostly stayed away from the love triangle tropes (not that that's what this is exactly) but thought it was so well handled in this book. I was invested pretty early on and that's almost all I ask of a book! I started reading on a Friday and then couldn't put it down all day Saturday until it was done! It was such a cozy and inviting read. Love that we get both summer cottage vibes and Christmas cottage vibes! I love the friendship and love story that develops and found myself thinking about it even days after I was done. Such a sweet, enjoyable read!

The story of a heartbroken woman who rediscovers herself and finds the family she so desperately needs in Ontario cottage country. It's told in such a lovely way with mention of her past and future. You feel the heartbreak, and tension, which is broken up with humour. You can't help but root for Alice and hope she finds her way in the end. With so many loveable characters along the way, you're bound to find one you can relate to.

Love to Local!

I picked this book up after the author posted to local groups and I am so glad.

Alice gets a fresh start in a new town and embraces it.

Love to Alice is a slow burn romance embracing new beginnings. From a new town to new friends, secrets, and more, Alice explores her new normal in her late 20s. The characters and storyline were relatable along with the recognizable locations in Ontario's cottage country.

I absolutely loved this book, it helped that many of the characters had names of people in my life but the story was just so beautiful. I resonate with life changing drastically after losing someone really close to you and the growth that comes with it so I loved reading Alice’s journey unfold. Everyone deserves a Jordan in their life <3
