4.5 - Pax is all grown up! - stars

Pax Clark is trying to forge his own path in the world. He left behind his rock god family two years ago to pursue his musical aspirations. He landed in a small beach town in Alabama and spends his time writing songs and playing the local clubs. Music is his passion, it's in his bones, but he's determined to make it on his own. Not because his father is the famed Lush drummer, Walsh Clark.

He's focused and doesn't have time for a serious relationship, but he's not a douchebag about it. He comes across as a stand-up guy. One that can't resist saving a girl in distress. It's a tangled web that Carly finds herself in, but one Pax wants to help her out of. She might just change all of his plans.

"Sometimes you've got to leave your family to realize just how much they mean to you, and some things in life you have to do on your own."

While I love all the guys of Lush, Walsh and Tammy's story is my favorite. So, I was super excited when I found out little Pax was going to have his own serial. Pax is sweet, protective and I admire his resolve to make his own way in the world. In true Selena Laurence fashion, she has made me fall for another guy in the Lush family. While there where warnings this was tamed down compared to her other books (she wanted to write something her teenage daughter could read - so sweet), I didn't find it lacking in steam or excitement. After that cliffhanger, I'm dying to see what's next for Pax and Carly.

First off, let me just say that I cannot get over the fact that Walsh has a grown kid. Least of all someone old enough to have a romance of his own. Nooo, never. Keep 'em young! But then life goes on whether we like it or not...even in books, apparently.

But in all honesty, the idea of this series is just beautiful. It was interesting to know what kind of kids Walsh and Tammy would raise. And I guess Pax's character, all the independence and the pride in making it on his own, was just something that could be expected from any child of those two. It felt weird reading this because the Lush series is not even done yet but at the same, it felt nice to know that the characters I have come to know and love (too much it seems sometimes!) were really doing well. Reading about how they, even after all those years, continue to still be a family and for the Lush band to be doting uncles to Pax just melts me on the inside. I love these guys!

I am already excited how this six-part serial is going to pan out. Pax and Carly have a great chemistry and I can already tell that these are going to clash beautifully. This first part of the series just served as a foundation as to who the characters are and and how their story will likely evolve. But most of all, I am excited at the fact that SL is writing a new YA/NA material. Ahhh, the possibilities! I can't wait!!! *flails*

There is something about the stories that have anything to do with the band Lush. With Walsh's son Pax wanting to make it in the music business on his own with out the help of his famous father and the boys of Lush, Pax decides to move across the country and is now living in Bittersweet Alabama. He misses Oregon but he can't go home just yet. While on the beach, he hears a woman scream, when he goes to her assistance, there is a guy dragging her out of the water by. When Pax takes the guy down and saves her, she just wants to leave. Pax gets her name, Carly, but nothing else. When he is playing at the bar later that night she shows up again and the goon is there dragging her towards the door. Pax goes to her rescue again. She is stubborn and doesn't want anyone to get involved, she thinks she can talk her way out of her fathers debt. When Pax's friend Vaughn shows up and he turns out to be Carly's cousin, they both want to help her but she refuses to a point. Will the bad guys come after her again? Will Pax get to know her better? Will the boys of Lush have to come and save the day? This is a short story, about 53 pages, and worth the time to read it. I loved it and can't wait for more.

Two words: LOVED IT!!!! Pax is the son of the legendary Lush rock star, Walsh. He leaves his parents in Oregon and moves to a small town in Alabama to make it on his own, so no one knows who his famous father is. One day while on the beach, the beautiful, Carly, enters his life in a most unforgettable way. He rescues her from being kidnapped after hearing her scream and seeing her struggling with a thug. After she leaves safely with her roommate, he regrets not knowing more about her. He can’t seem to forget her, but fortunately she soon meets her again. Each time seems to involve her fighting off the same man. However, her predicament doesn’t scare Pax off. He wants to save her! But, their road to romance will be fraught with danger!

I’m not a huge fan of serials, but I decided to give this one a try because I love ANYTHING by Selena Laurence. I am so glad I downloaded it; it was fantastic! It was short but packed with so much substance and suspense. It didn’t hurt that the guys from Lush are mentioned in it either…I mean Pax is Walsh’s son, and I love Walsh! I am anxiously awaiting the next installment.

4.5 Stars!

This is a super short read and good introduction into a new series by the amazing Selena Laurence. This book introduces us to Carly and Pax. I cannot wait to see where this series takes us. I am also excited to see the journey that Pax and Carly take.

This is the beginning of Pax and Carly's story. Carly is in trouble. Her dad passed away doing the unforgivable. When Pax meets Carly, he helps her. She runs and the next time he sees her, he saves her again. Little does he know he will be closer to Carly than he thinks. Will he be able to save Carly? Will he be able to fight the undeniable attraction? This book ends on a cliffhanger as it is a six book serial series.

Oh Pax! He is Carly's knight and shining armor. And poor Carly.. she is have a tough time. She pulled at my hearstrings. You can feel the zing they have between them. And Vaughn... he seems super interesting. I cannot wait to see more of these two in the future installments!

I highly recommend this book!

Something different from Selena Laurence!

Selena takes her first stab at the New Adult genre with this exciting Romantic Suspense serial.

If you are a fan of the Lush series, Pax is Walsh and Tammy's son. Their other child, their younger daughter Lyric, will be getting her book next!

Pax is trying to make his own way in the world as a musician, although he's a guitar playing solo act (not a drummer like his dad). He's changed his name and moved where no one knows him ... knows he's rock 'n roll royalty. He's living the good life in Bittersweet, Alabama and then Carly makes her way into his world ... and what an entrance she makes!

The Bittersweet Chronicles: Pax 1 is an exciting introduction to the series. We meet the main characters and get a good feel for where they are in life yet we have absolutely no idea what's around the corner for these two as Pax tries to help Carly navigate the mess her life has become.

Can't wait to see how things play out for Pax and Carly!

Thanks to the author, I was allowed to read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This story is a little different than others that I have read from this author. It is a milder storyline that could be read by a wider variety of readers. It is a serial and this is the first installment where we meet the characters. Pax and Carly meet with her in trouble. As the story proceeds, he keeps coming upon Carly in trouble and coming to her aid. She continues to try to push him away, but Pax is attracted to Carly and determined to try to help her. It ends in a cliffhanger, which is to be expected in a serial. I can't wait to see where the next installment takes these characters as Carly's predicament makes for a very intriguing read.

This is part one of a six part serial. It is Pax's story - Lush's Walsh and Tammy's son all grown up and trying to make it on his own. He has changed his name and has been living in a small town in Alabama. One day while at the beach he helps a girl Carly in need. This part of their story starts their attraction and adventure.

Wow!

You have got to be kidding me on this story. There was no real depth, no background, nothing. It tells you a story then ends in a middle of a scene to start a different story. They expect you to want to continue reading this series that's not what you do. I do not believe I will keep up with this story.

a sweet story, wonderful lively characters, at times really suspenseful with the kidnapping, can be read as a stand-alone although it is nice to have chameos by the "older generation" like his father and uncles and other band members. Definitely well-written, with a side of action-packed crime story!

I really love Selena's other books, especially the Lush series, but this one just fell short for me. Maybe I just expected too much. It seemed 75% of the book was description of who Pax was and his family and their band. You never really got to connect with Pax and that is a must for me.
