Travis Delta kicks ass again in Ghost Strike, volume # 2 in his series. A one-man wrecking crew for private contractor Snakeriver, he's tasked this time with helping stop the rash of terror attacks from planes shot from the sky, to chemicals and glasses affecting the water supply and air, and to buildings and trucks exploding. Combined these attacks are tanking the nation's economy, while a group of wealthy insiders is reaping the profits. Could there be a connection?
Suffice it to say that Travis Delta will get to the bottom of it. His intuition and skillset not only confounds everyone from the FBI to CIA, but even his own boss at Snakeriver seems like just a spectator as Delta solely figures things out in an uncanny way. Luckily for him, he gets to administer plenty of his brand of justice to those who deserve what's coming to them.
Like in the first volume, this was a compelling plot that moved quickly and kept my attention. Once again, though, Delta's genius at seeing what's coming next and how to respond without any doubts borders on disbelief at times. Which begs the question - is Delta actually human, or is he some advanced AI bot that always know the right answers? Read the book, and then you can be the judge of that.
AI bot or human being aside, this still was an enjoyable read. With Stone already readying volume #3 in record time, I'll look forward to seeing what Delta has to face next, and if any elements of fallible humanity ever creep in to alter his methodology.
