Dusk by Alyssa Rose Ivy is the second of the Dire Wolf Chronicles. In the first novel we meet Mary Anne and Gage, two university students thrown into an situation filled with Dire wolves (a stronger breed of werewolves) and witches. After much struggle Mary Anne agrees to become the mate of Hunter (the Dire Wolf alpha) in exchange for him turning and saving Gage. This book begins with after the change and the reader experiences Hunter’s attempt to court Mary Anne and ease her acceptance into her new life. However, both Mary Anne and Gage harbor romantic feelings, which basically leads to the conflict of the novel.
I find this novel fairly well written but while Mary Anne ‘loves’ Gage I find Hunter the more appealing character. The relationship between Mary Anne and Gage seems superficial, they can like star-crossed lovers but Gage only showed interest when they were stranded with nothing to do by have sex. It is Hunter who has portrayed characteristics of kindness and true affection. I think that Gage is acting out of jealously and immaturity. That being said I don’t understand how Mary Anne could pick a man who all her life never wanted her over a man who thinks of her as his reason for breathing. The ways the characters are written contradict the actions in the novel. As a reader I find the character of Mary Anne frustrating and unreliable. She is a weak character who, for the majority of the novel, sits around pouting rather than making the most of a situation or doing something to change it.
Ultimately I like the idea of this plot more than I like the characters in it. Had Mary Anne played a active role I might have liked it better. She unnecessarily reliant on men, which I think takes away from her character potential. I would not suggest this book to other readers because I found it disappointing and it fell short of my expectations.

DUSK picks up directly in the anxious scene where we are left in DIRE. (And a heads up for the next book, the ending is barely a cliffhanger and won't leave you as anxious for more, as reading DIRE did.) After Mary Anne promises to be Hunter's in every way, literally giving herself to him, he does as she asks and saves Gage's life. Then again what is her life worth without Gage? Even if they cannot be together.. However by saving Gage's life, Gage is no longer a simple human but one of the rare Dire wolves and he has a lot of learning to do, his normal human ways no longer cut it when simply becoming agitated can cause him to shift. He may view himself as a regular old werewolf but after a few shifts, runs and hunts, even Gage can tell is a new man. The Dires' are larger, stronger and highly feared thus the secrecy behind their identities. A new man who even more determined now than ever for Mary Anne to be his.
Mary Anne wants nothing more than to see Gage, talk to Gage or just be near him. But now that she promised to be the mate of Alpha Hunter, everyone goes out of their way to keep them apart. Mary Anne tries her hardest to resist Hunter. For the most part, she knows she could be with him, but that would be in a world without Gage, a world for her that does not and will never exist. Hunter tries his hardest to be irresistible. And at times he is more than attentive and sweet, he's overpowering but understanding even when all he wants is to claim his mate.
One interesting addition to this book was finding out why Hunter was so convinced that Mary Anne was his mate. Considering the fact that Gage and Mary Anne were involved in a wreck caused by the wolves, she wants to understand his obsession. Finding out she plays a starring role in his dreams, makes Mary Anne even more skeptical and uses this to her advantage in trying to prove she is not the mate for Hunter. The two bicker but the sexual tension between the two of them is always sparking until Mary Anne remembers her guilt and pushes him away. At times it is hard to dislike Hunter. In fact it's hard to truly be sure whether Mary Anne should be with Gage or Hunter. Of course I'd love for her to win in the end and win both of them, especially since now Gage is a part of the Dire life, but there's no way either man would settle for that. Then again if Mary Anne is right and she is not the woman of Hunter's dreams, that means she's still out there waiting and if he happens to mate with Mary Anne then he'll be SOL.
Overall DUSK was a great addition to the series and from start to finish the plot was engaging and I couldn't put it down. After Gage loses his temper over hearing about Mary Anne and he shifts in public even more drama ensues. There is a reason the Dire wolves are so secretive, why they use the vilest witches to cloak them and why there are so few of them left. They have enemies too, enemies who want nothing more than to extinguish the Dire race. Mary Anne is willing to do anything to save Gage, again. But what happens when Hunter and the rest of the gang are caught in the crossfire.??? I'm anxious to see if Mary Anne and Gage will come back to save the day or run off into the sunset and hide. Perhaps Gage can win Mary Anne's favor and find a way to save the gang and win the girl.. Only time will tell. Can't wait for the final in the series. I just hope there are HEA's for everyone....

*HEAVY HEAVY SIGH*
Love Triangles. The bane of my existence. If executed in the right way I don't mind them. I minded this one. A lot. I will get there but before I do I want to warn anyone who might stumble upon this sexier then hell cover and think hmm I wanna read this, then somehow find this review, well warning this is the SECOND in a series, and there will not be spoilers for this book but most DEFINITELY for book 1 seriously im just jumping in with spoilers from book one
So Gage is a Dire now, Mary Anne promised herself to Hunter, and Hunter is getting his own POVs in the book. Could anything get more complicated? Well I am glad you asked because it did. I was actually really starting to like Marni because in book one I was a little cautious of her. Then at the beginning of this book i was like alright, alright im really liking her, buutttt I just don't know what happened. One minute Marni is this amazing character the next literally next sentence I fucking hate her and she is a total bitch. I don't even know what is going on with this character, same goes with Jocelyn who we meet in this book. I just don't even....know?!
So aside from the two characters that I just simply don't even understand, and while sometimes that can be an interesting thing these are side characters, these are characters that i felt needed to no really be "predictable" but not so complicated i spend way to much time going what the fuck is their problem? When I have THREE other MAIN characters to do that for, not to mention trying to understand this new world.
So wow okay there is a lot so let me try to straighten myself out here.
The story itself: Awesome, a lot of action, a lot going on and I was intrigued and interested to see what was going to happen next. A lot of revealed to us - FINALLY - while somethings we are still a bit in the dark about and im still confused to be perfectly honest :/ I mean i get that we are building up for the next book which is fine but i really REALLLY wanna know now!!! Goddamn that cliffie ending...well not super duper but still kinda super. GRR okay honestly though action wise i think there is a little bit more movement in this book which is fine with me i love the action and adventure and what nots <3

Here is my thing, I didn't love Gage and Mary Anne together in the first book. I didn't feel like there was a lot of substance there to begin with because again Mary Anne had been obsessed with him and he rarely noticed her until they were cold, alone, and stranded. I think for me if they had waited before sex-ing it up and being all yeah im in love with you until after their first attempt to escape the pack in the first book i would get it. Traumatic experience brings you closer. But I also wasn't sure how i felt about Hunter either because we didn't have his side of the story in the first book. All we knew was he was also obsessed with Mary Anne (getting a theme here?) So for me I just didn't know where Alyssa was going with this book. Part of me wanted her to give Hunter a fair chance, which she sort of did but didn't. ughh to me its just still a muddled mess. I thought for sure about half way through this book it was going to be Gage was a first love and that is all sweet and stuff but there is different kinds a love (love that Mary Anne could mayhaps find with Hunter) but that doesn't really happen either. I can't say without ruining it but for me I am still not convinced by anyone's love.
Denny though....I could actually feel and appreciate a connection with him *wiggly eyebrows*
So overall i think if you really liked the first one you will love this one. I think if you liked and interested in seeing where this one takes you I think its worth it.

Mary Anne is very annoying and whiny. All she does it complain that she loves a guy she's been with for a few days and that life isn't fair and Hunter is too this or that and blah blah blah. Can't you just be grateful he isn't into forcing himself on you? Just so you know 5 days isn't true love, hun.
P.S. How is it that what happens between Mary Anne and Gage by the end of the novel doesn't make him hurt her and automatically wolf out? He's wolfed out for less. URGH.

DUSK picks up right where DIRE left off and the crazy continues. Mary Anne is still trying to come to terms with the consequences of her bargain with Hunter while Gage is having to quickly adapt to the changes that has been forced on him. The small group of Dires are forced to leave the compound that they have built for themselves and the trip to a new sanctuary does not go smoothly. Gage still has very little impulse control and finds himself in trouble again and yet again, Mary Anne has to help get him out of the mess that he's made. However this time it effects the pack even more profoundly.
Because these stories are quick reads it's very hard to write a review without giving away spoilers, so here's my quick summary. Mary Anne is still naive and sometimes clueless. Hunter is still creepily fixated on possessing Mary Anne and we get a glimpse into why. Gage is still acting like a boy trying to be a man. I still can't decide if Marni is the lone voice of reason or if she has her own creepy nefarious scheme going on in the background. (No one else seems to be concerned about Marni, but I got a bad feeling about her.) And all of the secondary characters seen a bit on the shady side. I'm not sure who are the good guys and who are the bad guys in this series.
If you are a New Adult/paranormal romance fan and don't mind cliffhangers this series is definitely a good read. Ivy creates well written page turners but there are no neatly tied up endings with these so you have to be okay with being left hanging at the end of the installments.

Full Review at: What's Beyond Forks?
This series has turned into a love triangle. I'm Team Hunter all the way, but this is one of those situations that I really have no clue who Mary Anne will pick when it's all said and done. It's all leading in one direction, but will she stay that course? I have no idea. I feel all out of my element because I usually know, at this point, who the guy will be whether I'm his fan or not. I don't think Mary Anne really knows either(although she thinks she does).

Everyone knows I'm team Hunter was in the last book didn't change in this book so the ending was kinda of poopy to me, didn't like how it ended. Mary Anne gives Hunter I think a more human side, although lord knows what that boy sees in her, "it relaxes me and keeps me calm. You remind me of the kind of man I want to be." He's a typical man when his woman isn't wearing a simple undergarment, "I'm not even wearing a bra. I need a minute." His eyes went right to my chest." I'm hoping the next brings me a smile because this one just didn't.

I got 60% through this book and I just couldn't finish it.
I really didn't care for the first book, but I was hoping with this book that there was going to be some changes, but I felt that the story just didn't make any sense. I wanted Mary Anne to be with Hunter, but she kept pining away for Gage. The story just didn't make any sense to me personally. I did love the author's way of writing and I hope that future books are better!

Was great to get Hunter's POV. Totally wrong and creepy to force Mary Anne to agree to be his mate but understood more where he was coming from. He tried really hard and was overall really nice to her. Poor Gage learning to be a Dire wolf and trying not to piss of Hunter. Loved the little Allie and Levi cameo!

As you all know I was totally and utterly blown away with Alyssa Rose Ivy's Dire, and when Dusk came up for review, I put it at the top of my review pile! And it was as epically awesome as the first, if not more!
We pick up right where we left off with Dire. Mary Anne has agreed to be Hunter's mate if he turned Gage Dire. He did and now she's his. Though Hunter is not at all the pushy alpha male you would expect from a Dire. He's very kind and considerate of Mary Anne and her feelings. He know she won't forget Gage so quickly and is willing to take things slow with her. He never forces himself on her. I have to admit, I love Hunter. Yes, I found him to be a bit obsessive of Mary Anne at first. She was the girl from his dreams with a prophecy he hopes to fulfill. Hence, the sort of obsession. He believes wit her, he will be able to protect his pack.
While Mary Anne seems to feel some attraction to Hunter, she hasn't forgotten Gage. She's still in love with him. I felt bothered by this. True, I wasn't expecting her to gush and love Hunter lickety split. But I felt like Gage suddenly "loved" her all too quick when he never really seemed to notice her at first. They were always friends. Then they had sex and it's like he suddenly loved her. I felt irked by that, hence why I was immediately drawn to Hunter! But despite Hunter's attempts at wooing Mary Anne, she's still hooked on Gage and all the more I keep telling myself I better start liking Gage. (sort of)
Gage decides to take on the witches with Marni's help but that only leads to disaster and soon the pack is on the move and headed to NOLA. I was quite surprised that they run into some familiar characters. After Gage makes yet another mistake, he's on trial in front of the king. And we all know who the king of New Orleans is. That's right! Levi makes an appearance, as does Allie! And I loved this! For some reason I wasn't expecting these two series to collide! But collide they did!
Alyssa is my favorite New Adult author! I have to say that I haven't read a lot of New Adult books because there's a strong lack of Paranormal titles. Though some are on the rise, but Alyssa was one of the first ones I stumbled upon with Flight and I am soooo glad I read it! It's been an amazing series! And now The Dire Wolves Chronicles is fast becoming my favorite--don't tell Levi!--and it makes it even better that it's crossing over into The Crescent Chronicles! It's truly the best of both worlds!
There's lots of action in this one! We see the witches again briefly, but I don't know if we've seen the last of them! It also so happens that the Pterons and Dires are enemies of a sort. So there's more collision bound to be ahead! All the while Hunter is trying to win Mary Anne over, and it was quite sweet to see this alpha male break for a young woman, and then of course there are a few stolen moments with Mary Anne and Gage...this read was just...wow! I loved it! I sooooo cannot wait to read the next one! I hope this isn't the end of seeing these two series collide!

As you all know I was totally and utterly blown away with Alyssa Rose Ivy's Dire, and when Dusk came up for review, I put it at the top of my review pile! And it was as epically awesome as the first, if not more!
We pick up right where we left off with Dire. Mary Anne has agreed to be Hunter's mate if he turned Gage Dire. He did and now she's his. Though Hunter is not at all the pushy alpha male you would expect from a Dire. He's very kind and considerate of Mary Anne and her feelings. He know she won't forget Gage so quickly and is willing to take things slow with her. He never forces himself on her. I have to admit, I love Hunter. Yes, I found him to be a bit obsessive of Mary Anne at first. She was the girl from his dreams with a prophecy he hopes to fulfill. Hence, the sort of obsession. He believes wit her, he will be able to protect his pack.
While Mary Anne seems to feel some attraction to Hunter, she hasn't forgotten Gage. She's still in love with him. I felt bothered by this. True, I wasn't expecting her to gush and love Hunter lickety split. But I felt like Gage suddenly "loved" her all too quick when he never really seemed to notice her at first. They were always friends. Then they had sex and it's like he suddenly loved her. I felt irked by that, hence why I was immediately drawn to Hunter! But despite Hunter's attempts at wooing Mary Anne, she's still hooked on Gage and all the more I keep telling myself I better start liking Gage. (sort of)
Gage decides to take on the witches with Marni's help but that only leads to disaster and soon the pack is on the move and headed to NOLA. I was quite surprised that they run into some familiar characters. After Gage makes yet another mistake, he's on trial in front of the king. And we all know who the king of New Orleans is. That's right! Levi makes an appearance, as does Allie! And I loved this! For some reason I wasn't expecting these two series to collide! But collide they did!
Alyssa is my favorite New Adult author! I have to say that I haven't read a lot of New Adult books because there's a strong lack of Paranormal titles. Though some are on the rise, but Alyssa was one of the first ones I stumbled upon with Flight and I am soooo glad I read it! It's been an amazing series! And now The Dire Wolves Chronicles is fast becoming my favorite--don't tell Levi!--and it makes it even better that it's crossing over into The Crescent Chronicles! It's truly the best of both worlds!
There's lots of action in this one! We see the witches again briefly, but I don't know if we've seen the last of them! It also so happens that the Pterons and Dires are enemies of a sort. So there's more collision bound to be ahead! All the while Hunter is trying to win Mary Anne over, and it was quite sweet to see this alpha male break for a young woman, and then of course there are a few stolen moments with Mary Anne and Gage...this read was just...wow! I loved it! I sooooo cannot wait to read the next one! I hope this isn't the end of seeing these two series collide!

I received Dusk in return for an honest review from the author. In order to save Gage’s life he must become a dire and only by committing to be Hunters mate will Mary Anne be able to save him. The only drawback is that it’s not a onetime thing it has to happen twice and unless Hunter is happy he won’t do it again and Gage will die. The pair is kept apart with the anticipation that the connection between the two isn’t strong enough to survive and eventually Hunter will win Mary Anne over.
When Gage and Marni sneak out to take care of the witches they lose the protection forcing Hunter to flee the area with his pack. The only safe place he can see is hiding right in the Society’s own back yard of New Orleans. Hunter sure that if he gives Mary Anne the time she needs she will grow to love him, and he’s also sure that she’s the one he’s been dreaming about who will save them all. When things go horribly wrong they will all be tested when they are revealed before the Pterons.
I love Mary Anne willing to give it all up for the man she loves even if it means being with a Dire wolf shifter. I love Gage because his whole world revolves around Mary Anne and he is ok with her making the choice to turn him into a Dire doesn’t mean he’s going to let her go easy. I understand Hunter and I want to dislike him but it’s so darn hard. He’s not a bad guy just misguided.

The worlds are slowing colliding and I can’t wait to see how it’s all going to play out in the next book. I love the characters Mary Anne is one of my all-time favorites she’s thrown into the world of the supernatural but with Gage by with her she accepts and deals with it well. The characters are easy to connect with and we are given all three points of view Mary Anne, Gage, even Hunter and it’s getting harder and harder to dislike him. If not for the fact that I had to get up early I would have stayed up all night reading but I quickly finished this morning as soon as I got a chance to sit down and read. Dusk is a brilliant novel it’s action packed right from the start drawing the reader in and keeping you hooked till the very end. The author has created a beautifully written story that captures the heart as well as the imagination. My only complaint is the next book isn’t out now. I loved Dusk the whole series is amazing my top five for shifter series of all time.

I'm going to try my best to keep this review as spoiler free as possible!! Here it goes.....Dusk picks up right where Dire left off. Mary Anne has gone to extreme lengths to keep Gage alive. She has promised to be Hunter's mate, so long as he saves Gage. But promises are easier to be made than actually following through with and feelings are almost impossible to turn off. If there's any hope for survival, Mary Anne will have to learn to put her past behind her and attempt to move on. She will quickly learn the sacrifices and choices one must make in the name of love.................
Dusk was such an enjoyable sequel to Dire. This time around not only do we get Gage and Mary Anne's pov, but we also get Hunter's. I really liked getting to see Hunter's point of view and why he felt so strongly about things.
Once again, Alyssa Rose Ivy has given me an amazing paranormal romance to read. It had everything that I was looking for: action, romance, light steam, and some wonderful angst and drama. I loved how the author was able to connect this story with the Crescent Chronicles. It was so seamless. Plus, anytime, I get to spend with Levi and Allie makes me one happy camper! But, I get the feeling that we will get to see more from them in the future; I'm hopeful anyways.

I need more now #teamhunter
*shakes computer* I need more NOW – this book gives so many hints and plot twists that I need answers desperately. Dusk is such a quick, compelling read I was left desperate to know more and I also needed to hug Hunter :)
Told from a triple perspective of Hunter, Gage and Mary Anne providing much needed insight into the characters alongside a snippet of the background detail to the plot. I do mean a snippet because I feel that we have barely touched the surface of events that have lead to this point.
I have to be completely honest with you, I prefer Hunter to Gage, he is just so sweet and gentle and caring and tender *swoon* He is super sweet and selfless. The use of magic, prophetic dreams and prophecies add another element to the story.
Although Mary Anne had had a crush on Gage for a long time both of them seem to be exaggerating the feelings they have for each other. For me it just didn’t ring true. They are basing the depth of their feelings on two brief but intense encounters. In all honesty I just don’t have much faith in them as a couple. You can remind me to eat my words later if it comes to it ;)
I found Gage to be annoying (yes my judgement might have been clouded by my feelings for Hunter, LOL) Gage’s recklessness caused so many problems for everyone. He was more liability than asset. I kept wondering if the transformation was in part to blame for the increase in intensity of his feelings and emotions where Mary Anne was concerned.
The secondary characters within the story appear to have their own agendas adding tension and intrigue to the already gripping plot. You continually question their motives while reading.
I need book 3 immediately.

Dusk is the second book in the Dire Wolves Trilogy. Dusk was a very quick read, at about 222 pages, it flowed by in a single afternoon of reading. It also helped that I knew all the players since the stage was set in the first book. Dusk picks up right where Dire ended off, with Gage being turned into a Dire to save his life. While I was reading the first book, I found myself more torn between Hunter and Gage than I thought I would have been. And in Dusk, it was even more confusing. I felt myself getting mad at Mary Ann that she wasn't giving Hunter more of a chance. Give Hunter a chance in the next book Mary Ann!
The Dire Wolves Chronicles is a very cool trilogy because it is set in the world of the Petrons and the Society from two of Alyssa's other series. And in this book we even get to see Levi and Allie. That was nice, and it looks like we are going to be even more involved with the society in the next book, so I am looking forward to that. Even though it might not be on the best of terms, but it will certainly be exciting and action packed.
Like I said earlier, I want Mary Ann to give Hunter a chance. It is not that I disliked Gage. I don't. At all. But Hunter just seems so patient and kind with Mary Ann. I absolutely loved this book. I can't say enough how much I love Alyssa's paranormal world and I just want to shout it from the rooftops! It's another exciting installment in the Dire Wolves Series, and each one better and better. With plenty of suspense, longing, conflict, and romance, it kept me eyes glued to the pages.
What I loved about this series is that it doesn't have the typical love triangle. Even though there are two gorgeous guys vying for Mary Anne's affections, I know right away her heart will always belong to Gage. What can I say, I am a big fan of true love. But I would love for Hunter to find his true happiness. I was thrilled to see Levi and Allie! And seeing them as the King and Queen through different eyes was amazing. Not to mention the little chat between Mary Anne and Allie..

The madness continues with Hunter and Mary Anne. After Hunter saves Gage from a cauldron of psycho witches in Dire, Mary Anne gives Hunter her word she will be his mate if he will complete the transformation for Gage who is now a Dire (for some reason, one bite is not enough). Gage is the most dangerous Dire because he can't control his wolf which causes problems for the pack. Meanwhile, Hunter continues to try and win Mary Anne's affections but Mary Anne has lost hope and is on the verge of giving up. Gage and Mary Anne are not allowed to see each other, let along talk to each other.
If you thought Hunter was creepy and delusional, it gets worse when Hunter tells Mary Anne he has a twin brother, Fielding--the one who gave him the scars on his face and chest while trying to kill him after a disagreement--and that he is much worse than him. As if...
After Gage loses control and kills the leader of the psycho witches, the pack has to move quickly and head to Chattanooga to meet up with associates of Hunters who turn out to be sabertooth tiger shifters (Jocelyn and Isacc) who are a bit on the shady side--no surprise there-- who will set the pack up with new identification and then they can continue on to their new home in New Orleans where they can hide in plain sight right under the King of the Society's nose, or so they hope.
We are introduced to one of the nomads of the pack, Marni's brother Denny who is a bit of a loaner but still part of the pack--interesting concept. Once the pack reaches New Orleans, Gage promptly freaks out in a bar and shifts in front of humans because they were speaking poorly of Mary Anne. Before Denny can whisk Gage away and hide, a Pteron (bird shifter) stops them and Gage is taken into custody to stand trial. The trial is a far when Gage freaks out in court and shifts again and flees with Mary Anne while Hunter, Marni, and Chet are captured and put in jail. Denny sends Gage and Mary Anne off to figure out a way to end the hunt and get the others out of lockup. Mary Anne believes her friend Genevieve can help, so off to Florida...
This book ends with another, you guessed it, cliffhanger! On my Were Scale of Hotness, 2.5 stars.

Second book is the same thing again, both Gage and Mary-Anne want to be together but nope Hunter still is trying to force something with Mary-Anne that is just not there. Of course I’m going to read the last book cause I bought them on my kindle app for all three but I’m going to need a break for a bit.

I have been following this series from Dire (Book 1 in the DIre Wolves Chronicles series). Alyssa Rose Ivy has maintained the phenomenal beginning that she created in The Crescent Chronicles, and has built upon it to create a truly unique and spine-tingling adult paranormal romance series.
We begin Dusk where we left off in Dire. Gage and Mary Anne are now bound to the Dire Wolves, specifically the pack that is overseen by their Alpha, Hunter. A new change has taken place and now everyone involved will have to acclimate and assist in making the best of a difficult situation. We are re-introduced to the Dires that we previously met in book one, but have a quick understanding that the relationships that were once in place, and had been for so long, are now being tested. Alyssa Rose Ivy allows us to experience the transformations that Gage, Hunter, and Mary Anne are going through to appease a bargain that was made to save Gage's life.
"...the way I feel about Mary Anne, it's need. She might as well be my oxygen for the way I crave her body, mind, and soul. When I close my eyes, she's the only thing I see."

We are whisked away into the paranormal world of Dires, witches, other shape shifters, and Pterons. A score is settled between Gage and the person who has caused his heartache, but this also leads to an unexpected move of the Dires that could possibly shape the future for all paranormal creatures . All the while, our three main characters struggle to exist in a world that isn't allowing for what they truly want. Finding ourselves in a new, but familiar setting, crimes are committed, and choices are made to assist in alleviating any unnecessary discoveries of the Dires' true identities. An unforseen ending leads to forward progression for some and abrupt and questionable stagnation for others.
I was consumed by the story of our three main characters. I recall the emotions that I felt for Gage and Mary Anne when reading Dire, and quickly transferred them to Dusk. However, when I read Hunter's feelings for Mary Anne that were full of love and sincerity, of his protectiveness over her and genuine awe, I knew that my new-found observations of Hunter may betray my original hopes for Gage and Mary Anne. I appreciate that the author allowed Mary Anne to voice the sexual chemistry she felt with Hunter, even while knowing that her heart still belonged to Gage. My curiosity continued to be piqued by the drama between those supporting and accompanying our main characters on their journey, and how their personalities were woven into the story to assist in its completion.
I loved when the scenery changed and familiar settings were brought into the picture. It made me take a deep breath, recalling all of the memories that I had of this place from a previous time. Coming back to where it all began and following along as secrets and relationships were revealed was intoxicating. I continue to be enthralled with this series, and will definitely be coming back for more with DAWN (Book 3 in the Dire Wolves Chronicles).

We are whisked away into the paranormal world of Dires, witches, other shape shifters, and Pterons. A score is settled between Gage and the person who has caused his heartache, but this also leads to an unexpected move of the Dires that could possibly shape the future for all paranormal creatures . All the while, our three main characters struggle to exist in a world that isn't allowing for what they truly want. Finding ourselves in a new, but familiar setting, crimes are committed, and choices are made to assist in alleviating any unnecessary discoveries of the Dires' true identities. An unforseen ending leads to forward progression for some and abrupt and questionable stagnation for others.
I was consumed by the story of our three main characters. I recall the emotions that I felt for Gage and Mary Anne when reading Dire, and quickly transferred them to Dusk. However, when I read Hunter's feelings for Mary Anne that were full of love and sincerity, of his protectiveness over her and genuine awe, I knew that my new-found observations of Hunter may betray my original hopes for Gage and Mary Anne. I appreciate that the author allowed Mary Anne to voice the sexual chemistry she felt with Hunter, even while knowing that her heart still belonged to Gage. My curiosity continued to be piqued by the drama between those supporting and accompanying our main characters on their journey, and how their personalities were woven into the story to assist in its completion.
I loved when the scenery changed and familiar settings were brought into the picture. It made me take a deep breath, recalling all of the memories that I had of this place from a previous time. Coming back to where it all began and following along as secrets and relationships were revealed was intoxicating. I continue to be enthralled with this series, and will definitely be coming back for more with DAWN (Book 3 in the Dire Wolves Chronicles).

4 moons - 'Dusk' by Alyssa Rose Ivy Dusk is the second book in Alyssa Rose Ivy's The Dire Wolves Chronicles, and I have been waiting patiently to find out what would happen next after the cliffhanger from Dire. Alyssa left us hanging with what happened to Gage and what Mary Anne had promised in the first book.
Forewarned…you need to read the first book before reading Dusk. So I would highly recommend not reading my review of Dusk, otherwise you will miss out on the first book's storyline (which I loved by the way).
Alyssa continues the story of the two college kids that crossed paths with the Dires and witches that adorned the woods where their truck wouldn't start in a horrible winter storm. Mary Anne is forced to make a choice to stay with Hunter as his mate or witness Gage die from what happened in the first book. She chose to become Hunter's mate and it's not going to be easy. Hunter wants her to forget Gage (the boy she has had a crush on for years and fell in love with) to become a mate to a Dire who is a complete stranger. She chose the path, so now she needs to deal with her new responsibilities. She also has to forget Gage. It's going to be hard and Hunter doesn't make it easy for Mary Anne.
Alyssa picks up from where Dire (the first book left off), so there is no confusion at all. It's like continuing a movie after pausing it. She immediately goes into what happened to Gage and how he is accepting the new change. We also get to find out more about the Dires and why they are hiding in this book. There are also things that are brought up that I definitely feel Mary Anne is not asking the right questions to, especially when it comes to what Hunter is up to. I will say this…I like Hunter's character better than Gage. Hunter seems more caring and loving towards Mary Anne, but he is going the wrong way with it.
Mary Anne drove me crazy in this story due her constant change of mood. She would worry about Gage, but then she would worry about Hunter. It's like her feelings are sporadic at times, and the ending she has determined who is all for. I was a little confused with her. I still enjoy her wiliness to not give up though and constant questions she asked. She wanted to understand and no one would let her. Gage drove me crazy with his erratic behavior, especially towards the end. I was expecting the ending to go the way it was because of how the characters were acting. I still don't know if Gage fully cares for Mary Anne like he says.
I'm left with more questions than answers because the story went pretty quickly, especially towards the end. Alyssa left a cliffhanger again, so expect to be left in shock on what is going on. Don't get me wrong I loved the ending, but I'm a little worried what is going to happen next. I want a HEA for Mary Anne and Gage, but I'm not sure if I want them together. They don't click fully.
I recommend this book to readers who love the New Adult and Paranormal elements together. I loved how Alyssa is not following the trend of just New Adult Contemporary like other authors are doing right now. She's combining a favorite element of mine. Paranormal elements. Something that will always be dear to my heart.
I give this book 4 stars and look forward to reading the next installment in the Dire Wolves. =)

I think this was a good sequel and it follow up nicely on the first book and you get to see the relationship between the different characters on fold. You get to see how Gage is dealing with getting changed and the feelings the different character have for each other.

I’ve been waiting four month for this book! The way the last one ended was so good, I knew I had to read this asap. As soon as I was sent the arc (advance readers copy) I dove straight into the book. I missed the Dire word with Gage, Hunter, and all things amazing and cold. This book is definitely a lot better than the first book. In the first book, I didn’t like the writing at all, I found it un-descriptive, a lot more telling than showing. Alyssa Rose Ivy has definitely changed. I love the writing in this one, if flowed so beautifully, and I saw everything happening in my head like an action-packed movie. She left nothing for me to imagine, it was already done for me.
If I thought I was torn about Hunter and Gage in the first book, I’m a hot mess now. There were so many beautiful parts with Gage and Mary Anne in the first book where you feel the connection between the two. It’s beautiful to feel how much they belong with one another. In this book, it’s Hunter. He’s so amazing like a book with out a synopsis he’s a mystery you want to unravel and learn everything about. He’s intelligent, sweet, sexy and smooth with words. I guess you can say I’m team Gater (Gage and Hunter) I feel so terribly bad for Mary Anne and the situation she’s in. The girl can’t catch a break.
What I enjoyed more than anything in this book is the triple point of views. I love hearing Gage thoughts especially with his new found self, Mary Anne fighting to love both men and stay loyal to Gage, and Hunter hopelessly falling in love with Mary Anne. There’s huge difference between the two Male characters. I was scared that they’ll both sound so similar, but they didn’t. They were exactly what I thought they would sound like. Gage is impulsive, hot headed, and mischievous, Hunter is smooth, patient, loving, and definitely dirty minded. You can tell there’s an age gap because of the maturity in the way they think.
I am so excited for the third installment. Just as I was finally and totally team hunter, Alyssa Rose Ivy reels me back into the arms or Gage and now my feels are more conflicting then before. I can’t wait to see how the next book plays out, and how it’ll come to an end. This book was everything I thought it would be: action packed, steamy, and amazing! I highly recommend this book, it has a love triangle (I love, love triangles I just hate that someone always gets hurt..), action, and paranormal all in one beautiful book. I only wished that it was longer! Happy reading loves, xx.

I knew Dusk was going to be a change but I didn't expect it to be so hard for Gage and Mary Anne to be together. That made me sad because I am all for Gage and Mary Anne being together. I mean Mary Anne did promise herself to Hunter in Dire if he saved Gage but I don't like that Hunter pressures her sometimes. Gage is a Dire now and he's kinda out of control which is expected but Hunter is not only keeping Gage away because he is dangerous but also because he wants Mary Anne to develop feelings for him. I don't like that much because he is isn't thinking about her but only of himself. I mean yeah he needs Mary Anne to stop the hunt but he doesn't have to maker her be with him.
I came to understand Hunter more though but I still want Gage for Mary Anne. Being in Hunters head was a nice change because you can tell that he cares for Mary Anne but I think to him, the pack is more important. Hunter was very sweet and attentive though. I liked leaning more things about the Dire wolves but so much more still needs to be explained! I need to know more to understand more about the history of the Dires. Hunter is not at all helpful with giving information away!
Now Gage on the other hand surprises me each time because we saw that in his past he wasn't into relationships. Being in his head is pretty impressive because he really wants Mary Anne for more that just her body. He thinks of her more than of himself and I love that about him. He still wants to keep her safe and take her away from Hunter and the pack. His constant thinking of Mary Anne is what makes me go for Gage and not Hunter. He will do anything for her and I like that. Who I don't like is Marni. I don't like her at all. She annoys me and I can't understand her much.
I think this book needed a little more action in it like all other of Alyssa Rose Ivy's books. If it had a little more it would have been better. The ending though was really good and I am so glad that it ended that way because it made me happy. I think that is all I'm going to say because I can't really say much without giving away spoilers but I'm ready for the next book because I am sure that Dawn will be the best yet. The ending in Dusk sets up a good start for the next book and I can't wait!

Finally the second book is here!!! After 1st part, where Alyssa showed the readers that she can write a bit darker books, I was left impatiently waiting for the next part.
The book picks up, where the last book has left: after the rescue mission, where Hunter has saved Gage from the crazy witches. And Gage wakes up, not entirely as himself. Even though he feels stronger, more powerful – keeping control is an issue. A big issue. And learning what Mary Anne has promised to Hunter, so he can be saved is not helping him to stay calm. Especially when he realised that his feelings for the girl are deeper than any of them thought. But to keep them both safe and to make sure that Hunter will finish what he started, he pretends not to have any feelings at all. But by doing it the very girl is hurt.
Mary Anne, after agreeing to be Hunter’s mate in exchange for rescuing Gage, finds herself in the situation, where she feels like a prisoner with no way out. She is not allowed to talk to Gage, check on him to ensure he is fine and simply doesn’t blame or even hate her. It doesn’t help that she starts to respond to Hunter’s touch, even when she doesn’t want to. She doesn’t love him, but there is a slight attraction there. But after one dream and watching news, something breaks in her and she is trying to question Hunter’s resolve that she is THE ONE.
Hunter, he is one sexy guy, but for me he is just too convinced that Mary Anne is his girl from the dreams and is meant for him. He is not really trying to see the real her. Until one night when she whispers not his, but Gage name. After that he is even more possessive, but also in a way cold towards her. He is set that she is the destined one and she is the one that will help him stop the hunt.
After one night, where Mary Anne and Hunter have a date that does not end well and Gage looses his temper. And let’s just say Levi and Allie show up :D But after that all hell’s break through and Mary Anne and Gage have to run and hide.
The book is amazing. Much better then the first one! And first one was really good. I can’t wait for the next part and see where this will lead!
