Please read the warnings! This is more a dark erotic thriller than romance, so if you're looking for a traditional love story this isn't it.

Wren's brother owes Ezra a debt, but he doesn't have the money to pay it back. Since her brother can't pay, Ezra decides he wants Wren instead. Since it's not her who technically owes the money, he gives her a chance to get away. All she has to do is not get caught on his hundreds-of-acres estate. If she can survive until dawn, then she can leave. Otherwise, she'll be his forever!

Ezra is a dangerous man who always gets what he wants. He's dominant, calculated, and cunning, and this isn't the first time he's trapped someone... he just happened to be one that he wants to keep permanently. Wren wasn't going to just give up when she agreed to the hunt and prepared as best she could. She's full of determination and spirit but doesn't realize that the game was created for her to fail.

I did feel bad for Ezra for a minute when we briefly found out something about his past and why he's able to understand Wren so well. But my heart really broke for Wren as every time she thought she was getting somewhere, he was right there proving her wrong.

I wasn't expecting the book to take the dark turns it did, but I do enjoy a dark read, so I was all for it! I finished it in a few hours as the story kept me hooked and I needed to know where things were going. I can't say if it's a HEA or not as my brain hasn't figured that out yet, but they are together in the end!!

I am loving this series though and can't wait to read more!!

Intrigued by the set up and love me a primal chase but this one was boring.

I appreciated Wren who was a strong FMC who was knowledgeable and secure in her skills. She had a beautiful relationship with her BFF who is her ride or die. Always down a for solid female friendship. Her brother was shit which is how this whole debacle started. Since she has a big heart and essential no choice, she's suckered into this game to offset the debt without knowing how truly fucked she was before the whole thing even started. Girl tried to fight and did put up a good one but the game was rigged.

Not much background on the MMC except that he'd hunted a dozen people (mostly or all women?) before the FMC. We don't really get a strong foundation for why he chose her but she's the only one who almost beat him. As an MMC, he was flat. He doesn't have much emotion and didn't give me anything exciting to look forward to when I usually love the MMC's POV. In fact, it gave me the ick when we're reminded he's hunted others and there was a line around someone's account closing and the sister calling twice to which he responds that he'll "take the sister tonight" which sounded ambiguous. This was 10 days before his hunt with Wren. So did he fuck someone else? Or did he take a call? Who knows but it sounds sus.

No expression of love but a whole ton of repetition. The tone of the story is doom and gloom with lots of inner monologue around Gramps, breaking, breaking her, waiting 411 days, etc over and over again. You can literally skip paragraphs and not miss anything.

Safety - both non virgins, no sexual history given either MCs, he's not a manwhore (...?), no OWD/OMD, no cheating, no sharing, no on page sex with OP.

This is the story of Wren and Ezra. Wrens brother owes a debt to Ezra. When he cant the debt Ezra decides he wants Wren. But he is not an unfair man. After all she is not the one who owes him money. The rules are simple. If she can get away, while being hunted on his massive property, and survive, she can go free. Easy Peasy right? That is all I can tell you about this book. I was unable to lay this book sown. I devoured it and you will yoo.

An arc review - A very different take I was impressed, it's a dark book and I was so anxious for wren .

Spoiler - I hate that her brother doesn't check in and their connection ends there i also hate that rule bell doesn't try harder to find wren knowing how wren has the proclivity of self sacrifice . It's a lot of stockholm syndrome for sure.

3.75stars-RUN RABBIT RUN by Elizabeth Knox is the fourth instalment and stand alone story line in the multi-authored, contemporary adult DARK HOLIDAY erotic, holiday thriller series. This is twenty-five year old, influencer / woodswoman Wren Holloway, and thirty-six year old, Ezra Vane’s story line.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there WILL BE triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Ezra and Wren) RUN RABBIT RUN follows Wren Holloway, an online influencer and woodswoman as she is forced to pay off her brother’s debt. A Halloween hunt wherein if Wren wins, her brother is free: if our heroine loses, she is trapped until the end of her life but all is not as it appears to be. Wren has a stalker, who is determined to claim Wren as his own, a man who has been watching for a very long time. Wren has ten days to train and map out the hunting grounds but training will not help what is waiting for our story line heroine.

The world building is dark and gritty as Ezra Vane makes it virtually impossible for Wren Holloway to win. Ezra Vane is a predator, a man on the hunt for a woman he wants to call his own but Wren is determined to win at all costs or die trying. An environment of dark and dangerous woods, set against a backdrop of impossibilities, our heroine will fall victim to a hunter who refuses to let go.

The unconventional relationship between Ezra and Wren is hunter and prey. Captured and caged, Wren begins to lose herself to a man who wants to own and possess, determined to destroy her free will, and claim her body in the process. By the end, Wren is no longer the woman she professed herself to be but a woman owned and caged by a hunter who is unwilling to let her go. Giving up, Wren must accept what fate has wrought. The $ex scenes are aggressive and not without some scenes of questionable consent.

The secondary and supporting characters are desperate and broken. We are introduced Wren’s brother Luke Holloway, best friend Rue Bell, coffee shop owner Marlene, Old man Tomlin, and housekeeper Delia.

RUN RABBIT RUN is a story of introspection and contemplation, obsession and possession, power and control, betrayal and vengeance, acceptance and withdrawal. The character driven premise is haunting, dramatic, gritty and edgy; the characters are dark and tragic; the relationship is unique and atypical-there is no love-Ezra wants to possess, while Wren has accepted her new role in life.

Heed the trigger warnings.. you have been cautioned.

This was dark. And I mean DARK dark.

Run, Rabbit, Run is not the kind of dark romance where the MMC is secretly a sweetheart underneath all the threats and questionable behavior. Ezra Vane knows exactly what he is. He sees something he wants, studies it, plans for it, and waits until every piece is exactly where he needs it to be.

And what he wants is Wren.

Wren has built her entire life around survival. She was raised to understand the wilderness, read danger, stay calm, and find a way out. She’s capable, intelligent, and genuinely believes those skills give her a fighting chance.

Ezra sees those same qualities and basically thinks: challenge accepted.

The psychological aspect was what made this work so well for me. This isn’t simply predator chasing prey through the woods. Ezra has studied Wren long enough to understand how she thinks. He knows what she considers safe, how she reacts under pressure, and what she’ll do when she believes she’s cornered.

The terrifying part is that Wren slowly realizes just how much of herself she unknowingly handed him before they ever met.

There’s also something deeply disturbing about the way Ezra views possession. He doesn't just want Wren physically. He wants to become the center of her world until she can no longer separate safety from him.

And Elizabeth Knox does not soften that into something prettier than it is.

That was probably my favorite part.

The story lets the situation remain psychologically uncomfortable. Wren is constantly trying to understand where survival ends and adaptation begins. At what point does enduring something change you? And if a cage becomes comfortable enough, does knowing it’s a cage still matter?

That question hangs over so much of this book.

Ezra is absolutely horrifying, fascinating, patient, obsessive, and completely convinced that what he is doing makes perfect sense.

There were multiple moments where I thought, Sir. This is not love.

Ezra would probably disagree with me.

This definitely will not be for every dark-romance reader. Check the content warnings because the darkness here isn't decorative. The power imbalance and psychological manipulation are the story.

But if you like romances that go genuinely dark and refuse to suddenly paint all the red flags green just because feelings become involved, this one delivers.

Disturbing, claustrophobic, obsessive, and incredibly psychological.

Apparently my tolerance for fictional red flags remains alarmingly high.

⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ 3.5 stars

Okay, I have to admit… the premise of Run Rabbit Run had me hooked from the start. A creepy estate, Halloween night, hundreds of acres of darkness, and a terrifyingly obsessed man hunting you through the woods? Yeah, I was absolutely going to read that. 😂🖤

The predator/prey dynamic was definitely my favourite part. I loved the whole cat-and-mouse aspect and that constant feeling that Ezra was somewhere nearby, watching and waiting. There’s something seriously unsettling about a man who is completely confident that he’s going to catch you eventually—and Ezra has that energy in spades. And Ezra… sir, respectfully, what the.....!? 😂 This man is possessive, calculated and completely unhinged. He’s not the kind of dark romance hero who loses control—he’s scary because he has so much control. He knows exactly what he wants, and he’s willing to play the longest game imaginable to get it.

Wren was also a character I enjoyed because she didn't just sit around waiting to be caught. She planned, prepared and genuinely tried to survive, which made the hunt much more entertaining. My main issue was that I just wanted more. The concept had so much potential, and I really wanted the psychological side of the hunt and the relationship to be explored more deeply. At times, I felt like things moved a little too quickly, especially considering how much tension the premise could have created.

So while this wasn't a five-star read for me, I still had a good time with it. It was dark, creepy, twisted and definitely delivered the morally questionable vibes the blurb promised. Would I recommend it? If you enjoy predator/prey dynamics, obsessive possessive men, psychological games, captivity, dubious consent and dark Halloween vibes, absolutely. Just don't come into this expecting fluffy romance because… girl, Ezra is literally hunting you through the woods. 😂🐇 3.5 stars from me. A seriously twisted little Halloween read that kept me entertained, even if I wanted a little more from the story and characters. 🖤🎃

A Dark Holiday: Ezra & Wren

⭐⭐.5

This one certainly was dark, and honestly, kind of devastating.
Some may really enjoy this, but this one was a bit off for me...

Ezra takes the whole psycho-stalker/predator concept to an extreme, and there were several moments where I found the story more depressing than thrilling. The initial non-con scene is thankfully brief and not overly descriptive, but there is another later incident that made the situation even harder to read.

What really got to me was just how hopeless Wren’s situation becomes. Her brother essentially sold her to clear his debts, and what follows feels less like a romance and was more watching a woman being psychologically broken down and conditioned to accept her circumstances.
For me, this didn't feel like a dark romance because I couldn't find the romance in it. It felt much more like a captivity/psychological horror story with predator-and-prey elements.
The power imbalance is absolute, and there isn't really a point where I felt Ezra and Wren developed a genuine romantic relationship.
The premise is certainly intense, and if you're looking for something extremely dark with stalking, captivity, psychological manipulation, and a truly dangerous hero, this definitely delivers. It just wasn't a romance I could connect with.

Very, very dark, very unsettling, and ultimately far more disturbing than romantic for me.

Let’s talk Wren & Ezra. I love a “dark” romance, and the predator/prey trope is one I’m familiar with. You have a fan here Elizabeth!!! Not only do a love a little animalistic trait in my books but Halloween is my favorite.

Wren is a sweet, kind, empathetic young woman who has a desire to save everyone but herself. Until she has too. She can hunt and knows her way around the woods she calls home but on foreign lands she may not be who she claims to be.

Ezra is a man who is made by the traumas of his past. Men before him have laid the ground work for the Ezra we get to experience today.

He is the hunter and Wren will be the hunted.

In hopes to save her brother from a debt he absolutely cannot afford to repay, she agrees to go on eyes open and do what it takes to save her brother once again for his issues. Did she get what she signed up for? That’s for you to decide when you can experience this Halloween story later this year.

I give it 3.5/5 stars. Would’ve loved to know more about Ezra’s past vs the small tidbits we got in this story. Would’ve loved even more to know about Ezra past hunting endeavors, but I suppose leaving things to the imagination doesn’t take away from the story so well written out.

The POV’s are so well written and I thoroughly enjoyed the inner monologues of each one as the story unfolds. I cannot wait to get my hands on the rest of the “A Dark Holiday” series.

Thank you Elizabeth for the early edition of this story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is something else! Another level. I don't know how to describe this book as I'm not sure "romance" covers it.
One thing is for sure, I did not expect what I got. The author's assignment was to circle the story around Halloween and that she did. But it starts way before that.
Wren's brother is a gambler and the only way to pay his debts off is for his sister to win a night time race through the woods belonging to a very rich and even more mysterious Ezra. It should be easy. She's been raised in the woods, next to a river, she lives and breathes nature, there's nothing that could surprise or defeat her in the great outdoors. Or could it?
She may be prepared for the night time woods, but she is NOT prepared for Ezra.

I'm still thinking about the correct genre for this story. Very dark romance, psychological thriller, survival manual, study in perfect and total submission, all of the above. Sooo many layers to this story - his version, then her version and then the picture others can see looking at Ezra and Wren from outside. Twists and turns along the way and the huge psychological changes that can be engineered in a person are the main shock in this story.
Absolutely worth reading! You will not be disappointed.

Wow. From the very first line, this book had me completely hooked! The premise alone is incredible: a high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse on a dark, sprawling estate where the cost of losing is forever.

Ezra Vane is the ultimate dark romance predator—calculating, dangerous, and utterly obsessed. Watching Wren train, prepare, and fight for her brother's freedom made her such an amazing, resilient heroine to root for. But the tension when sundown hits and the hunt actually begins? Absolutely top-tier! The shift at midnight, when the sheer terror and magnetic connection hit, kept me turning pages at lightning speed.

Why this is a must-read:

High-Stakes Forced Proximity: A dark "run for your freedom" game combined with an utterly obsessed hero makes for unmatched suspense.

Unstoppable Chemistry: The pure "touch her and die" / "you belong to me" energy from Ezra is off the charts.

Atmospheric & Intense: The Halloween night setting across hundreds of acres of pitch-black woods builds the perfect eerie, addictive mood.

If you love dark romance, morally grey antiheroes, high-stakes games, and intense stalker/predator tropes, you need to pick this up immediately. An absolute 5-star read!.

Ezra has been stalking Wren through her social media posts for four hundred and eleven days. She has taught him how she runs. Wren posts survivalist videos on social media. She was taught by her gramps. Wren and Rue go out into the woods and shoot the videos of Wren showing techniques on how to survive in the woods. Gramps raised Wren, her brother Luke and Rue her best friend after their mothers got lost in their addiction. Luke is addicted to gambling and has amounted quite a debt with none other than Ezra. Ezra wants Wren. He knows that the only way to get her in his woods is through Luke. Wren meets Ezra when he comes to the diner with Luke to discuss the debt. Ezra gives Wren ten days to prepare for a night in his forest, if she makes it Luke’s debt is washed and if she doesn’t make it she becomes his. Wren almost makes it out of the forest but ends up getting caught in a pit trap. Now the possession of Wren really begins. Will Wren ever fall for Ezra? Will Ezra find what he is looking for after Wren is his?

This was not what I was expecting to read from Elizabeth Knox but it most definitely was a great book. Wren Holloway allows herself to be in a competition with Ezra in order to try to cancel a debt that her brother owes. It is literally a game of cat and mouse and Wren believes that she can beat Ezra. The massive deal is that if Wren loses she belongs to Ezra. Why would Wren agree to such a deal? Because she believes that she can win and rid her brother of the debt but when Wren is caught by Ezra she now belongs to him and although she is basically his prisoner, over time Wren finally accepts her fate and gives in to Ezra and all his demands. Wren giving in really surprised me because I thought she was stronger and I felt she just gave in to Ezra but as time went on I finally realised that there was a genuine attraction between them and we also saw how deep Ezra’s obsession was of Wren. I enjoyed the story and also the chase and I felt sorry for Ezra as his past defined the man he is today. Everything about this book was amazing but read the trigger warnings because this book is dark.

I was very intrigued with this story of Wren and Ezra. The way it was written was good to keep you on the edge. Wren likes her life where she has control over fear. Her grandpa taught her many things about life with the work she does. Ezra has been watching Wren and calculating everything about her for a long time, feeling ready to make his move. Her brother Luke gets himself into deep waters and she is the only one that can help him out of it. She agrees to do a challenge with Ezra that she believes she can win. Ezra is prepared for everything she does. Just when she feels the end is near, it all falls apart. Being the patient man that Ezra is, he breaks down her walls to claim her. This was a unusual read for me but enjoyable.

This is the fourth book in this amazing series, and this is Wren and Ezra’s story.
Wren is an influencer and woodwoman, while Ezra is a predator. When Wren’s brother owes A dangerous man a debt, he comes to collect, but Ezra does not want money, he wants Wren.
This is a well written dark, gritty, action-packed story, with family, emotions, psychological games, duel POV’s, forced proximity, stalking, hunter / prey, captivity, challenges, obsession, acceptance, survival, and thrilling, which leads to an entertaining, haunting, twisted, and unpredictable, dark Halloween romance.
Be aware of the trigger warnings due to sensitive content!
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Ezra is not morally grey ! He and his forefathers are all as black and soulless as they come. He decides that Wren belongs to him mind , body and soul and he will never let her go ! Wren loving her sister/friend Rue more than her own life shows up at the Vanessa estate Halloween and goes toe to toe with him and his servants, never realizing she never had a chance at leaving without a leash… for the rest of her life ! The whole book I was plotting his murder and her brother’s right afterwards! 5✨’s for a read that keeps you going from page 1 to the very end of the book, and FYI, Ezra has the last word !.

Run Rabbit Run is a dark Halloween romance and the fourth, A Dark Holiday book.
MFC Wren has a problem with her brother who has got himself in trouble gambling, and the money he owes has come due.
Only the man he owes that money to Ezra Vane wants Wren in place of it, and so the game will begin.
Halloween night on his estate she must run and survive until dawn.
Predator/Prey dynamics are in full force and this drama of suspense, family dynamics, personal vulnerabilities, mind games, emotion, and spice is with a man who has no plans of loosing.
Nicely written, good characterizations, in a wildly entertaining narrative kept me reading, and wondering…what would I do?.

Wow, right from the prologue…drawn in! I wasn't going to run away from this! No way!

Because…"There she is."
An amazing story that had my heart practically beating out of my chest.

The character builds, tremendous.
The world building! I felt like I was running those woods with Wren.

What happened to Ezra?
What happens in these woods?

Could it be that there could be something between captor and captive?

Book four! It would seem I have three books I now have to read!

EXCELLENT!

I like most of this author’s books, but this one left me feeling so sad that I’m struggling to find the words.
This whole book was crazy in the best way. The psychological game of cat and mouse kept me hooked until the very end, and I couldn’t stop wondering what would happen next.
But my heart broke for Wren. Ezra broke her, and I don’t feel like he ever put her back together. That’s the part I just can’t get past. 💔
It was dark, intense, and hard to put down, but it also left me feeling sad long after I finished.

Book four of "A Dark Holiday". Wren Holloway has built an online following posting mountain survival content. A little over a year ago, she gained the attention of a psychopathic monster who was willing to take his time. To a predator like Ezra Vane everything is a game and he knows just the way to reel Wren in. He uses her own brother, slowly over time, so that when the time is right, there is no way for Wren to refuse. He wants her alone, defenseless so that the outcome of the game is never in doubt.

Check TWs to read to your comfort level.

Halloween is my favorite holiday, so this book was on point. Wren's brother owes Ezra a debt and Wren is collected for that debt. Ezra, being the fair person that he is, gives her a chance to get out of jail free but of course she didn't earn her freedom. And we start the journey down the rabbit hole.

Did this story make me cringe, yes. Did I stop reading it, no. Was it all that I imagined it would be, yes and so much more. It was intense, dark, and I enjoyed the dual POVs.

This book has more triggers than an NRA swap meet. Dub con, non con, degradation, gaslighting, power imbalance, and much more. So if you treat trigger warnings like a list for Santa, then this one will make you delirious. Very dark, more erotica than romance.
The centerpiece of the story is a primal chase. The MMC gives the FMC until dawn to elude him or she belongs to him. Of course, he has no intention of letting her go….

What the heck l did I just read!! This has to be the most unusual story I’ve ever read in my life. Next time I want to venture into the complete unknown I’ll definitely choose this author

"Hardness is only honesty other men are too frightened to look at."

Wren Holloway has just got a proposition she can’t turn down and her life will never be the same

He didn't lose my trail. There was never a trail to lose. He herded me. All night.

Ezra Vane not really sure what to call him. Obsessed maybe. Emotionless!!

He means forever. He means until I forget I was ever anything but his.

It does have a very different kind of HEA.

This whole book was crazy, in the best way. The intricate plan and how all the pieces fell into place was just insane. Wren is very bright and determined, unknowingly making herself the perfect target for Ezra and his dark desires. There is something almost disturbing about him watching her through the videos she made. The perfect psychological twist of cat and mouse that kept me hooked till the very end.

I'm completely thunderstruck by Ezra and Wren's first encounter where the blame lies completely on her brother for not owning up to his debts and using his sister as collateral. Ezra's plans are methodical from the start where he challenges Wren's skills in his forest to the pit she falls in and many other traps and I was like bait on a hook and couldn't tear myself away through out the whole book.

Run Rabbit Run is an intense thriller. It's about Ezra the predator of the story and Wren the prey. At times the story is creepy and uncomfortable for me, but yet, I couldn't put it down. It's a very interesting psychological thriller. I am surprised at the ending, but glad I took the time to read this book. It gave me a different perspective on life.

Her brother owes him money and to erase the debt Wren has to enter a game one where she runs and Ezra chases. If she is able to hold him off until dawn, she gets her life as well as her brothers. I loved the chase and the twists and turns it takes. Will Wren win and get her brother's debt erased! This rousing story has a thrilling chase that kept me glued to Wren and Ezra.

Too dark for me. The characters often drone on and on and on, wishing I could skip over all of it. Believe the trigger warnings, or be sickened by some scenes. If this is her new way of writing, I will not be reading any more of her books.

Book 4 of A Dark Holiday series, this is about Wren and Ezra. How do you escape a man who has studied your thought process, before they have ever met? You don’t. The author did a great job of putting us in the characters shoes, but definitely check the trigger warnings before starting.
