PSYCHIC TEENAGE BLOODBATH

Trapped in a coma, Susan Ward has gone quite mad. Wide awake but unable to move, she’s discovered a new and frightening set of skills.
And now, one year after the accident, she will use those skills for one blood-soaked purpose - REVENGE.

PSYCHIC TEENAGE BLOODBATH II

Ten years have passed since the nightmare that tore the small town of Clinton apart. Everything has returned to normal… or so it seems.
But now, the survivors of that night of shocking terror will face an ever greater evil.
And this time it threatens the very fabric of reality.

With the Psychic Teenage Bloodbath collection, originally published under the name Carl John Lee, David Sodergren brings you two nightmarish tales of vengeance, madness, and brutal, stomach-churning violence.

If no one got me I know David Sodergren got me 🙂‍↕️ quite possibly the only male author I’ve come across that writes women, and queer women!!!!! so wonderfully. I usually love vague endings but this one didn’t sit right with me - I wish there was more of the afterdeath section that took us to the final new years eve party. I loved the meeting of Charlie and Lynette at that party but it felt so rushed for a Sodergren, who is usually a writer that covers excellent ground in a short space… that wasn’t really present here. HOWEVER! I can make peace with the last 5-10 pages because the rest of the collection was absolutely immense. God bless this author and god bless his love of dogs

Look, when you're reading a book called "Psychic Teenage Bloodbath" I think you know exactly what to expect going in... And while there IS plenty of extremely graphic and disgusting gore, its not JUST an over the top exploitation film in book form. Like all Sodergren books, it's well written and all things considered, heartfelt and emotional.

Reading Sodergren books makes me feel like a kid reading Goosebumps books again. This collection has two books that were originally released under a different name that was(is?) used to publish more "trashy" and more extreme novels, but I think it feels right at home along his other books.

The first book is great and if you don't mind quotes like:

"Michelle arched her back and farted again. Blood exploded from her anus, evacuating at such force that it hit several boys..."

..then you're in for a good time! (Just wait until the crispy infant part) As expected from this kind of book, the ending is just straight up, over the top, gore-soaked fun, and while I thought nothing could top it, the entire second book takes everything up by several orders of magnitude 😂 There's some of the most depraved body horror I've ever read in the climax and I loved every bit of it.

Like all Sodergren books, these were just so much FUN.

This collection features a sweet sapphic love story wrapped in blood, guts and psychic mayhem.

What I truly appreciate about the authors books is always how much heart he puts in to the characters and makes them feel fleshed out, and not just tools for the plot to move along. I also admire his ability to write gross extreme horror and somehow making it so over the top, that it stops feeling exploitative and just becomes camp.

I did prefer the first part over the second one, but together they were still strong enough to give me this a five star writing.

• Splatterpunk horror
• Listen. I don't think I like Splatterpunk, or at least I did not the day I read this. I was grossed out, a lot. I know that's the point of Splatterpunk buuuuut I truly was not prepared.
• Damn you Taylor for making me read this.
• I'm going to leave this as the most useless review probably known to man because I truly don't want to relive this book by giving a summary.
• Grossness - 5 stars; how much I enjoyed the book - 2 stars

I love David Sodergren - everything he has written is such a joy for me, this one is a bit more confusing to me and I struggled w/ all of the twists and turns. Given that it was written under his pseudonym, this might account for it.

Some Carrie vibes here and some super fun characters, but the confusion is what brought the rating down
