How to Kiss on Christmas Morning

Rate this book
She’s merry and bright. He’s… not. But something between them is warming up.

Megan Sheridan just landed the perfect holiday a quiet week in the mountains house-sitting an event venue while the owners are away. Check the mail, answer the phone, keep the pipes from freezing—easy.

The only trouble? No one told Megan she’d be sharing the farmhouse with a very grouchy, very handsome farmhand.

Noah Hawthorne is a cousin of the owner, so she can’t exactly ask him to leave. But if he scowls at her one more time, she’s tempted to pack her own bags. She’s not about to have her Christmas ruined by a grump, hot or not.

But then a snowstorm knocks out the power, and Megan is forced to rely on her begrudging housemate. She quickly learns there’s more to Noah than terse replies and guarded looks.

But trusting a man with secrets is tough, and Megan isn’t sure she’s willing to gamble on someone who won’t open up.

When the magic of the holiday fades away, will she be holding her future? Or nursing a broken heart?

3.5 Stars!

It’s not a secret that I loved the Hawthorne Brothers series, and this holiday visit with them featuring their cousin Noah was a very nice treat.

Grumpy sunshine, hurt comfort, cozy holiday feels galore!

Though this is closed door romance, Proctor knows how to deliver. I just wish this was longer and can only hope we get the stories of Noah’s 3 younger brothers in a winery backdrop no less. Fingers crossed!

CUTIE CHRISTMAS READ!!

Cutie little Christmas romance! That’s what this was!

Megan & Noah were just a great grumpy/sunshine moment….and then when they really got to know each other (THANK YOU FORCED PROXIMITY) it was just *chefs kiss*

The holiday backdrop, on a gorgeous farm in the mountains, crossing well loved characters — couldn’t ask for a better foundation for a great story!

Jenny is such a fantastic author, and she did a great job writing well rounded characters, who grow, in such a short story!

Cute! I thought this was a fun Christmas romance, fun setting and likable characters. This is my first book by Jenny Proctor! I have been wanting to try her books for ages and when this one recently released I thought it would be great time to give her a try. I enjoyed her writing style and even though this was clearly connected to her other series, I didnt feel lost and was able to connect with the characters. I look forward to reading more of her books!

I’m so lucky to have a fun group of friends and we had our 3rd annual Jólabókaflóð book exchange just before Christmas. A HUGE thank you to my friend for gifting me this book from my wish list.

How to Kiss on Christmas Morning was the perfect Christmas read from a favorite author. Not only does she tie in characters from a couple of beloved series, but she delivers a charming and magical tale that all starts with Megan getting stuck in the snow and Noah begrudgingly coming to her rescue. Yes, the falling in love part happens quickly, but it feels so right and is oh, so swoony.

The setting is ideal and all the events and happenings only add logs onto the sparky fire of attraction and quickly melt the icy layers. This one is an excellent story to cozy up with for the holidays and even during the residual effects of the season.

This was the sweet holiday novella I’ve been searching for. I loved returning to the farm with the Hawthorne Family AND seeing Alec and Evie from the Appies series! I love a good grumpy/sunshine holiday book and this one delivered for me. It had the perfect snowed-in vibes with plenty of Christmas spirit. 😍 The first half of the book was a little slow for me, but I loved the second half so much. I wanted to jump right in and join the family for Christmas morning!

A cute, clean Christmas rom-com that reunites us briefly with the Hawthorne family, only this time a cousin, not a brother, but all the brothers make an appearance with their now-wives and families, so you might want to have read all the previous "How to Kiss" books by Jenny Proctor if you worry about any "who ends up with who" spoilers, but this does stand well on its own without really anything major spoiled. There are also some cross-over characters from the Appies series as well. The timeline for the romance is extremely quick, but Proctor's typical humor is present throughout. If you love the Hawthorne family, you'll want to pick up this shorter book to revisit them and Stonebrook Farm and the baby goats!!!

Cozy, swoony, unexpected forced-proximity, grumpy/sunshine goodness! I devoured this story and loved every minute! All the best Christmas and winter vibes and a beautiful layer of depth worked into this short read.

Jenny Proctor has written some of my favorite sweet romances, so I was excited to read this Christmas novella! This grumpy/sunshine is perfect—cozy, charming, with just the right amount of swoon. Megan thinks she's got an easy holiday job—a week at Stonebrook Farm while the Hawthorne family is in Italy for Christmas, but she wasn't counting on Noah, a grumpy but super-handsome farmhand, or the snowstorm that caused a power outage.

This story has all the great vibes of a Christmas Hallmark movie! I liked that Noah isn't a grump just for the sake of being grumpy; he's got secrets he's dealing with. I also liked that Megan's sunshine personality isn't over the top; she's the perfect foil to Noah’s cynicism. The power outage from the snowstorm causes some forced proximity, and Megan's mishap brings out Noah's caring and softer side. My favorite part, besides the swoony kisses, is when these two open up to each other.

Seeing some characters from the Hawthorne and Appies series was the icing on the cake, but you don't need to read either series to enjoy this story. If you love grumpy/sunshine dynamics, forced proximity, and holiday romances that leave you smiling long after the last page, How to Kiss on Christmas Morning is a festive must-read.

I received a complimentary copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own.

The holiday season really lends itself towards fast paced novellas in the midst of all of the chaos of the month. I loved picking this up and being back in Jenny Proctor’s universe and seeing all of the connections and moments with previously loved characters.

I loved the banter between Megan and Noah. They have that moment of kismet and were sweet on each other. It was a quiet and soft holiday together and it just makes you feel good. It has quintessential hallmark moments perfect for the season.

Overall audience notes:

No notes. Yes, it's a novella and the action happens quickly, which is usually hard for me to wrap my head around. But I fell in love with both Megan and Noah instantly and just wanted them together! Such a sweet story.

A trip back to Stonebrook Farm with a few glimpses of the Hawthorne family? Sign me up!!

How to Kiss on Christmas Morning is the cutest novella starring adorable Megan and grumpy Noah! Megan has taken a week long job at Stonebrook Farm doing some simple tasks while the family is in Italy for the holidays. Unbeknownst to her, Noah, a Hawthorne cousin, will also be staying at the house helping around the farm. Sparks will fly and hearts will swoon when these two spend the week together!!

This book could not have made my heart happier! I absolutely adored everything from Noah’s initial grumpiness when he had to rescue Megan, to Megan’s surprise at sharing the house, to finding and decorating the tree and house, to nights spent in front of the fire, to the Hawthornes early arrival back home, and the perfect ending and epilogue!

This is a pretty quick read and you definitely don’t want to miss it this holiday season!!

Favorite quotes:

“Summer says Noah might only be a cousin, but you should brace yourself because he is still Hawthorne-brother handsome.”

“If you have to be rescued, getting rescued by a Hawthorne seems like a pretty sweet deal.”

“I breathe deeply while he’s gone, an attempt to calm myself and gather some sense of composure, but it backfires, because the inside of the truck smells manly and a little spicy and I’m pretty sure that has everything to do with the man driving it.”

“I’m good enough at reading people to know that Noah Hawthorne hopes I don’t need him. Which is fine by me. He can keep his secrets and his angst and his broody demeanor all to himself, and I’ll be perfectly happy on my own. Except, if that’s how I feel, then why, when I’m snuggled into my (fabulous) four-poster bed, am I still seeing the flash of his handsome blue eyes and plotting what it would take to finally make him smile?”

“Swooning over a large man holding a tiny goat was not on my Christmas bingo card this year, but I’m about ready to write it in over every single space. Because honestly, what else could possibly compare to this?”

Absolutely darling!! 😍 Megan & Noah are super cute, the whole grumpy sunshine is endearing, I loved the medical angle, and yeah, it was just marshmallow sweet. 🤭

A smidgeon too kissy for my personal tastes, and I’m tapped out from romances using the name “Noah” for the MMC since it’s my little bro’s name, haha. But it’s the perfect novella for a cozy evening of Christmas reading!

Olivia helps her friend out for a week during Christmas and finds grumpy Noah on the premises. Although it’s a shorter belfry it gave me all the feels. Ohmylanta!!! Swoony perfection and I love me a medicalish romance. I’m also in love with all the Hawthorne so sign me up for anything involving them. Read it. Read the whole interconnected series. Thank me later.

The coziest Christmas novella

So cute and swoony! Combining The Hawthorne and Appie worlds was just perfect! I knew I would love this right away and I was not wrong! The farm, the snowstorm; this novella was packed full of Christmas vibes and gave me a warm, cozy feeling. Noah Hawthorne starts as a grump with a good reason and is not happy when he has to pick Megan up after her car slides off the road on her way to fill in at the farm for a week while the rest of the Hawthornes are away. Noah had a bit of a mystery to him that kept me wondering what he had been through as a read. I loved the ways Noah and Megan connected as they worked at the farm together. As Noah began to open up to Megan my heart pretty much melted, and that first kiss was just wow! This book had me smiling and wanting more. Not because it wasn’t a full story; it was all that and more, but because I just couldn’t get enough of these two.

Read it for:
Grumpy MMC
He takes care of her
Christmas vibes
Cameos
Snowed in
Amazing kisses

I revived a complimentary copy of this story. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I absolutely adore this story. The grumpy/sunshine trope is usually one of my least favorite, because it's so rare for the grump not to be a jerk, but Jenny Proctor somehow gets it right...Every. Single. Time. Noah isn't even so much grumpy in this story as he is hurting and struggling, and it is obvious from the beginning. Megan sees it immediately, and she responds in a way that shows a healthy view of relationships, so their connection is totally believable and precious.

Bonus: You get to catch up with all of the Hawthornes from that book series, as well as with Alec, Evie, and Juno from the Appies series!!

This is the perfect easy Christmas read, and I highly recommend it for a guaranteed happy ending!

This was such an adorable, quick Christmas treat! The single point of view worked well for me and made me anxious to learn more about this mysterious, handsome Hawthorne cousin.

Megan and Noah are so cute together. They fall in love quick, but sometimes it’s nice to just get to the point! The point being the kissing, of course.

I loved all the cameos from so many of my favorite Jenny Proctor characters. This story felt like a little present for her readers and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

This book was so fun!! I adored being back at Stonebrook farm and seeing cameos/references from some of my favorite Jenny characters!

Forced proximity. Snowed in. Meddling family. Insta love. Grumpy/sunshine. Christmas traditions.

It was so fun to get to know Megan better in this story. I loved her in When Alec Met Evie. Such a great best friend! She is so fun and I loved her loyalty, fiestiness and how she can get Noah to open up unlike anyone else. Finding home with Noah was so beautiful.

Noah is the epitome of a grump. He’s broody, close lipped and wants to be left alone. Until Megan gets under his skin. When he begins to open up to her about his past, his hurts, his fears, something beautiful happens. I love how they help each other and how they see each other in the best ways.

Their love story really is insta love. They meet for the first time at the start of Christmas week and by the big day, they’re basically in love. It’s fast and the chemistry is electric. The kisses are super swoony!! And the Christmas magic is real. I loved the Christmas traditions like cutting down a tree, decorating for Christmas and lots of holiday goodies in the kitchen.

A fun holiday read!

How to kiss on Christmas morning (arc) 🎄 5/5⭐️

This was the cutest, cosiest Christmas novella and I urge you all to take the time to read this stunning story.

Of course we started the book with grumpy mmc and a hilariously sarcastic fmc. Which meant their banter was amazing, I really loved how they bounced off each other. I was also really happy to be back at Stonebrook farm with another charming Hawthorne relative, I always adore how interconnected Jenny’s books are.

This story is set the week leading up to Christmas and followed Megan and Noah who found themselves working temporarily at the stonebrook farm. Both looking for the right answers to their personal problems and managed to help each other along the way.

This short story was jam packed with all the best tropes including forced proximity, grumpy x sunshine, small town romance. And I can only imagine how perfectly whimsical the farm looked once they put up the Christmas decs.

Thank you Jenny for sending me this arc as always it was amazing and was such a magical read for the Christmas period.

A Jenny Proctor novel always makes my heart happy! Get ready to celebrate the holidays with the entire Hawthorne clan!

Megan is finishing nursing school and anxious for a position to open up. When she’s offered the chance to be in charge of a family resort for a week she jumps at it, hoping it will be a good distraction and give her some extra money.

But when she ends up stuck in a snowy ditch and has to be rescued, it’s a hunky Hawthorne man coming to her rescue. Turns out he’s also staying at the family home and he’s grumpier than Scrooge and Grinch combined.

Snowed in and dealing with an obvious setup by a well meaning cousin, Noah makes the best of it and soon the fire and sparks make everything more delightful.

This is my new favorite from Proctor and I’m just going to wait for my next new favorite to release next year. Don’t know what it is but I know I’m going to fall in love with it!

This book deserves way more than five stars. If you’re looking for a cozy, heart-warming, romantic read, please do yourself a favor and read this book!

I honestly don’t even know where to begin. I stumbled across this book on Kindle Unlimited while it was on sale, and I decided to give it a chance mainly because I loved the cover. I went in completely blind—I didn’t even know what it was about, just that it had great reviews. And wow… what an incredible surprise.

The story is beautifully written, and the way the two main characters slowly fall for each other made my heart melt every single time. I found myself constantly smiling, laughing, and going “aww” during so many scenes. Noah (the male lead) is an absolute gentleman—truly the kind of character you can’t help but fall for. He’s thoughtful, kind, and completely swoon-worthy.

This book made me feel all the cozy, happy emotions, and I couldn’t put it down. 🤍🤍

Book Review

Author Jenny Proctor

Published November 25, 2025

Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Megan is going to the Stonebrook Farm. The Hawthorne’s brothers own it. The Hawthorne’s are in Italy for Christmas! So Megan is house sitting until they come back and she is going to be in charge of the Apple farm and event center! She just finished nursing school!! Her car got stuck in the ditch right before the farm.

Noah works on the farm and rescued her with his truck! I keep reading and Megan falls off the railing while decorating for Christmas. Noah says to her I used to be a doctor, I was like wait what?! Did I just read that right?! Noah told her she dislocated her shoulder.

As time went on Noah got back into being a doctor. Megan and Noah ended up being together and working together!

Jenny did it again! Another great book! Now onto some winter books!

Reader’s Notes:

– this is told from Megan’s point of view

*Megan is Alec’s (from When Alec Met Evie) sister & Noah Hawthorne (our mmc) is a cousin to the Hawthorne brothers/Olivia Hawthorne (Hawthorne brothers: How to Kiss a Hawthorne Brother series; Olivia: Love Off-Limits )

-there is one brief mention of tongue in a kiss

-there are a few minor medical emergencies mentioned during the events of the story (no blood involved; brief events)

Review:

I was so excited to hear that not only would Alec’s sister Megan be getting her own story, but that we’d also be revisiting the Hawthorne’s home in this book! It was so much fun to see Megan with one of the Hawthorne cousins (Noah) and how they managed their unexpected sharing of responsibilities/home for the holidays. I loved that they ended up both enjoying the fireplace area and didn’t mind both basking in the quiet of it. I also loved how they bonded over sharing meals and working together to get the house ready for the one holiday event they had to help with. And of course getting a baby goat moment is the icing on the cake for this wonderful book!

I also really enjoyed that we got a peek into Alec/Evie’s & the Hawthorne’s lives after their stories! It was fun seeing where their families were at and how some of them were meddling in Megan & Noah’s lives for the duration of their shared worktime. 😂

Summary:

Megan Sheridan was thrilled to land a job over the holidays. Especially when it involves housesitting and keeping an eye on the phone at a beautiful farmhouse while the owners are away for the holidays. Except, no one told Megan that she’d actually be sharing the home with Noah Hawthorne. Nor the fact that his grumpy demeanor might make her want to leave, no matter how easy the job is.

But despite their rocky start, Megan finds there’s ways to co-exist with her unexpected housemate. And maybe they could be more than people who pass on their way to their own activities. But when the holidays are over, will they want to keep their newfound connection?

Thank you the author for the advanced copy. All thoughts are my own.
Megan graduated nursing school and crossing her fingers and toes that she gets her dream job in Charlotte. While she waits, she gets a sorta house/farm sitting job for the week of Christmas. Unfortunately the weather takes a turn and she's stranded a couple of miles from the farm only to be rescued by a farmhand she didn't know she'd be sharing the house with.
There's nothing like a snowed in forced proximity. It was so fun to return to the Hawthorne farmhouse and cozy up to the fire with Megan and Noah. How they helped each other was completely heartwarming and I love to see the setup for Hawthorne cousins at a winery. Recommend if you love familial meddling and an instant connection!

Why it wasn’t five stars: I didn’t find the character cameo catch up to work well in a novella format and just wanted a tad more depth/focus to Megan and Noah.

This was a super cute and fun Christmas novella! The connection was really sweet and swoony, the setting was wonderful, and the connections to the author's other books was really fun. I appreciated how it was dedicated to nurses because as a spouse to a medical worker I know the demand and especially the lack of break at this time of year.

As a novella the romance was quick and it did feel a little zero to a hundred in the development, but it also lacked filler drama which was nice. And as someone who fell for my husband from the first time I met him I can't judge too harshly haha.
