Forced to Marry the Marquess: A Historical Regency Romance Novel

Rate this book
Raised in a cold, scholarly home, Julia Hawthorne has always prized her independence and intellect, refusing to conform to society’s expectations of a dutiful wife. However, when her family forces her into marriage with the stoic Marquess of Wessex, she is thrust into a union that tests both her pride and her duty to protect the Ellington legacy.

Gabriel Ellington, the Marquess of Wessex, a battle-hardened military officer turned reluctant aristocrat, was never meant to inherit his title. His marriage to Julia is a strategic move to protect his family’s lands from looming legal threats. Their first encounter was nothing but conflict, yet soon attraction and resentment begin to gather like a storm beneath Ellington Hall’s roof.

Surrounded by rumors, sabotage, and betrayal, Julia and Gabriel must discover whether their love can survive the lies threatening them. Will trust take root, or will the past tighten its hold on their future?

Worth reading if you like philosophical love

It took a bit to get past the huge historical error of a woman attending Oxford in the Regency era, maybe in the 1880s-1920s or Victorian era. Otherwise, very well written, but not for lover's of adventure. The author is very skilled with words and thoughts. With a little more research on the Regency era, she will have a bright future.

Two stubborn people butt heads!

This was as a a difficult book for me to completely read, got so tiresome listening to Julia complain constantly about losing her independence! And Gabriel was a stubborn military man who had to be in command! But chapter after chapter of them butting heads was a bit much!
