Bad Boone McDermitt’s back in Pleasant Haven, Florida to help his troubled nephews, not to romance the preacher’s daughter! But the handsome doctor sees a kindred spirit in restless, talented Abby Smith, and he’s drawn to her spirituality as much as to her beauty.
The problem is, Boone doesn’t think he’s good enough for Abby, and a few small-minded church people agree. As for Abby, she must choose between a dutiful life with the clean-cut minister dear old dad’s chosen for her and the dangerous, passionate freedom Boone represents. It’ll take a lot of prayer and an assist from the Sacred Bond brothers to teach Boone and Abby that sometimes, the biggest risk is in not following your heart.

So this is a Christian romance, but there is some spice as in Boone, the sexy bad boy doctor. Boone had a rough life growing up, but had a good heart underneath his tough exterior. Abby is our sweet preacher's daughter who tries really hard to live up to everyone's expectations. She doesn't mean to be judgmental, but finds she is in some ways and her tender heart is humbled. As always Lee (author) put in some great kissing scenes ;) "Kiss me harder Abby" egads! Highly recommended!
I enjoyed this book but the one thing that really bothered me was the author did not use a capitalized the B when the Bible was mentioned. It seems a lot of authors make this mistake! Bible is a name of a book it should be capitalized!
I became quite annoyed that the relationships involving Boone, Abby, and Gordon were just as juvenile as the one between the teenagers Eric and Kristen. You can expect teenagers to put pressure on each other, but you expect more from more mature aged adults. I wanted to slap both Boone and Gordon to get them to treat Abby with more maturity.
The story had depth of character for each of the main characters through all the chapters. Abby was feeling torn between Gordon and Boone because Gordon was the logical choice but Boone made her heart soar. She was holding back because Boone was not a believer. The last chapter wrapped up far too quickly without resolving the issue of why Abby was holding back, and the story also did not wrap up the other relationships with Boone’s nephews, or sister, or church ladies, or Gordon. I was enjoying the book until the rapid ending, which had a storybook ending but without all the closure.
I started reading this book at a time in my life that was dark with physical pain and risk; The Doctor's Bond looked like it could provide a sorely needed respite. I got much more than I bargained for. The novel is very well written; the characters (both main and supporting) are believable, compelling, and complex; the main plots and subplots are expertly interwoven; and the Christian structure supporting the whole is brought to fullness beautifully. I especially appreciated the inclusiveness of types and ways of raising children!
I really felt the emotions of this story. It’s emotions were all adult, none of that teenage ‘he thinks / she thinks’ stuff for countless boring pages. No. This book is great, it tackles adult challenges with adult responsibilities and emotions, the good the bad and the very ugly with adult solutions. A very worthwhile read.
When we're uncomfortable with our circumstances or direction, turning to God for answers leads to answers that will fill your heart. H and h were highly attracted to each other but their histories and preconceived notions were getting in the way. How will God lead them?
This is a 5 star book. I was able to read the whole book without having to skip bad words or sex scenes. Very refreshing to enjoy a sweet romance and a lovely faith based storyline. I found a very few minor errors that did not distract.
This story had interesting characters and plot line. I was with it until the end, when the author had finished her word count and tied it all up without resolving the major problem of Boone's lack of a profession of faith.
This was a great book about love. I enjoyed it very much. It was about a girl and her voice over a preacher and anther guy. Read it and find out who she chooses.
This is officially the final book in the Sacred Bond Series (there are a couple shorter sequels that occur before the bond). In this book, we get to know Boone. He is now a doctor and is not use to working in a clinic, but does so to support his sister and two nephews. He takes care of them while his sister is trying to deal with her alcoholism. Boone is not much on Christianity, but falls for the preacher's daughter. She has mixed emotions on rather a relationship with him is even okay.
As the story progresses, we get a taste of what occurs in many churches. Some of the Christians think that people on the wrong side of the tracks are bad influences on their children. Sparks fly and drama happens. There's never really any closure on this issue.
I actually met John and Annie first, because I read "Before the Bond" (A.K.A. "A Christmas Bond") where we meet this couple. It's actually sad seeing how things turned out for them with Annie sick and them childless. But this points to what life really is - sometimes we have hard times. But it's great to see how much John loves Annie, and how strong the bond still is with the troubled boys they cared for.
TRUST. FAITH. PUTTING YOUR HOPE IN GOD, NOT IN MAN
I really enjoyed this book, which is part of a series, but reads well as a standalone book. I found Boone McDermitt to be a better representative of a Christian than many actual so called Christian people. He lives more Christ-like and less judgmental, but growing up, in a small town, and having the town drunk for your father is never easy. Abby Smith is on the other end of the scale, she is the preacher's kid, which puts her under another microscope. The storyline brought out so many real life applications and kept me captivated. It shares that living life as a Christian doesn't mean it comes without heartache and physical emotions and feelings. I enjoyed the open and honest dialogue with the characters and the heartwarming messages. This story shares God's love without being preachy telling the story. Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions and ratings are my own.
The Doctor's Bond by Lee Tobin Mc Clain is another fantastic book about the last of the Sacred Bonds. Boone is the md that comes home and meets the Preacher's daughter, Abby. They are attracted and the story shows Abby's struggle to decide between Boone, the helping, caring physician from the wrong side of the tracks and Gordon, the stable interim minister. She must search her soul and have the guidance of the Lord in her decision and Boone, must find a way back to the Lord. Another issue that comes up and that is seen in many churches , when church members hinder people that are sinners seeking salvation. Pious church members sometimes judge people and don't realize that we were all sinners that came short of the glory of the glory of God and he forgave us. Another fantastic story, Lee and I await the start of the new series. This book was given me in exchange for an honest review.
Another wonderful read that is part of an outstanding series. In this book we follow the bad boy Boone, another member of the Sacred Bond Group, and Abby, the preacher's daughter, on their journey to finding God's plan in their lives. Once again, the story line pulls you in from the first pages and keeps you reading to see what is going to happen next. The author through this story does a wonderful job of reminding that as God's hands and feet in this world we are called to love people and not to judge them. I hated to see the book end because it is the last book in the series, but I look forward to beginning of Lee's next series, Sacred Bond: Guardians. I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review. I definitely recommend this book and the other books in the series to anyone who loves good Christian romance.
The Doctor's Bond by Lee Tobin McClain - This is the last book in the Bond series. This as well as all the others are excellent Christian romances that keep your attention from beginning to end. In this book we have a doctor born and raised on the wrong side of the tracks. Boone was the son of the town drunk and at the church the day the pastor has a heart attack. Abby is the pastor's daughter longing to leave the community when her dad has the heart attack. Gordon is the relief pastor sent to take care of the church while Abby's dad is ill. The storyline touches on the dangers of putting people in the roles expected of them and abuse. Who will Abby chose? What happens to the pastor? Hmmm...a must read for yourself to find out. I was given a copy for an honest review.
