Alice Mitchell has seen better days. But that was before the heartbreak of infertility, divorce and losing her trendy New York restaurant.
Then, after five long years, her ex-husband reappears in her life. Gabe needs a chef. Alice needs a job. The attraction between them is still undeniable—and just as impossible. Even if sparks fly again, she can't give him what they once wanted more than a baby.
Creating a family, however, doesn't always mean creating a child.… Sometimes it just means allowing love to survive. But will they realize that before it's too late—a second time?
Molly O'Keefe has always known she wanted to be a writer (except when she wanted to be a florist or a chef and the brief period of time when she considered being a cowgirl). And once she got her hands on some romances, she knew exactly what she wanted to write.
She published her first Harlequin romance at age 25 and hasn't looked back. She loves exploring every character's road towards happily ever after.
Originally from a small town outside of Chicago, she went to university in St. Louis where she met and fell in love with the editor of her school newspaper. They followed each other around the world for several years and finally got married and settled down in Toronto, Ontario. They welcomed their son into their family in 2006, and their daughter in 2008. When she's not at the park or cleaning up the toy room, Molly is working hard on her next novel, trying to exercise, stalking Tina Fey on the internet and dreaming of the day she can finish a cup of coffee without interruption.
The food porn and scenery bliss still outshine the teeth-grinding passions -- both loving and angsty -- in this delicious little romance. I want to go stay at their inn on the Hudson now, thank you very much, Molly!
Another excellent book in this series. Must read in order. Alice & Gabe, they are divorced but Gabe needs a chef for his new business venture. And it turns out his Ex- Alice may be looking for a new gig. Since Gabe is opening up the resort of both of their dreams. Alice agrees to be a chef for 2 months to get him by and to help with a wedding he is having at the resort and Alice then has something to tell Gabe but then the story ends with a cliff hanger.
Ooooo....really good! Seriously, Molly O'Keefe should be selling a lot more books. If you like Kristan Higgins, Jill Shalvis, or Susan Elizabeth Phillips, you will love Molly. Great stories and layered characters that really suck you in and demand that you become invested in their world. Great sense of humor, too. Start with this one, then read the rest in this series, and then move on to her newer books (especially if you like a lot more sex with your romance). You're welcome. ;-)
An emotionally draining read that will run you through the wringer, but very satisfying. I loved that the heroine was half an inch away from rock bottom and I liked that the demise of their marriage was really the fault of BOTH hero and heroine. My only real quibble with the story is that it doesn't quite stand-alone as "one book" - and very much reads like Book #1 in a trilogy. But a minor detail that. A solid B+ read.
Alice, a chef was going downhill in her career, she was a mess with all kinds of problems. Her ex-husband Gabe talked her into being a temporary chef at his new restaurant. I guess the main problem in their marriage were infertility problems and her inability to get over that. I just really couldn't warm up to her and even though I liked Gage a little better, it was difficult for me to really get into the story with all the bitterness, arguing, and heartbreak.
This story had my heart breaking several times. I wanted to cry a lot throughout the book. Could not put this book down at all once I picked it up. I'm glad I actually have the second book for the "series" as I could call it because I'm so curious to see if this Gabe and Alice have any mention in the second book involving his brother Max.
I couldn't put this book down from the moment I picked it up. I was drawn in by a few of the characters' personalities. Alice is quite sassy. Only one complaint...the ending. I had a better ending in mind while I was reading it. I still have to give it 5 stars despite that fact.
For a category novel, extremely well written. The heroine was more than one dimensional and had flaws - in a romance - imagine that! Less a fan of the hero - too unforgiving, I think. But the author came highly recommended, so another book of hers has joined the pile.
Anyways I liked this story. I think O'Keefe could have built a little more on the characters & their misunderstanding of each other.
Like in the beginning Alice is like "I'm spoiling for a fight!" But then she starts to get into it and Gabe is like "Whatever, I'm leaving." And she was like "I'm sorry please don't leave me!!!"
That kind of gave me whiplash.
I would have liked more arguements of them figuring each other out. I thought it was important that while Alice was real with her pain & wore it out on her sleeve, Gabe hid his behind his kind attitude & that was finally made obvious when Alice tried to reconcile with him.
At first I was like why is Alice the punching bag for their relationship? Gabe is just as guilty.
Anyways, way less sexy times in this story than in her newer books. I'm glad O'Keefe has gotten better about that. The sexy times in her new books are steamy hot. This story it was mildly tepid.
All around good book. Lots of relationship drama. Huge fan.
