I tried to stay away, but it is too late. That dark personality behind mine is coming for her, and I may not reach her in time before he takes from her until there is nothing left.

Tangled by Mara Noir was a disappointing and frustrating read. The story felt painfully similar to several other books in the same genre, offering nothing fresh or original. Plot points were predictable, character dynamics felt recycled, and it often seemed like I was reading a weaker version of stories that have already been done much better elsewhere.

On top of that, the writing itself was a major problem. The book is riddled with horrific grammatical errors—misspellings, awkward sentence structures, and punctuation mistakes that constantly pulled me out of the story. Instead of getting immersed, I found myself rereading lines just to figure out what the author meant.

The characters were flat and underdeveloped, making it hard to care about their outcomes, and the pacing was all over the place. Some scenes dragged endlessly, while important moments were rushed and lacked any emotional weight.

Overall, Tangled was let down by unoriginal ideas and extremely poor editing. I wouldn’t recommend it, especially when there are far better-written books with similar themes available.

Definitely check your trigger warnings before. This story is dark. It follows well together with dual PO, this follows the MMC story of what happens when you try and forget about your past and trauma instead of working through things. I enjoyed the FMC, but I do wish there was a bit more time and connection made between the two before events that happened.

I received this novella as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

With a prologue like that... this review is going to come across as bland.

Tangled is dark, very dark, as described. With an accurate triggers list, please look after yourself and step away if you need to.

This was such an entertaining read. With multiple POV, it had all angles covered. The story flowed well and was easy to read, descriptive, and captivating.

There is a fair bit of explicit description in there, but more importantly, it does not lack plot! I struggle to find books that balance the dark elements with spice and still hold a great story, but Tangled is definitely one.

Highly recommended for any dark romance or thriller/horror erotica readers out there. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I couldn't put it down once I started.

ARC Review, thx Mara Noir

Unfortunately, this book doesn't compare to the first one at all. I had a hard time getting into the storyline and advise everyone to read the TWs properly.

Furthermore, this book is riddled with spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, missing words, and incorrect punctuation. It's so bad that it bothers me, even though it's not my native language.

I found this book way too similar to another book by a well known author. Everything including the cover felt like it was I reading the Wish version. The poor editing was just the icing on the cake.

𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗡𝗼𝗶𝗿, 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗥𝗖 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸!

Wow! “Tangled” is the perfect name for this fast-paced, depraved, pitch-black rollercoaster of a book. It is essential that each reader looks at the trigger warnings, as this dark romance dives deeply into violent, taboo, and traumatic subjects that can be difficult for some readers. What stood out to me was the multiple-POV format, which was well-curated and brought not only a foundational understanding to each character, but also allowed me to lose myself in the same confusion, obsession, hurt, and unrelenting desperation that the main characters are fighting through. June, with her softness and willingness to see true character, serves as the perfect juxtaposition to the broken and destructive pieces that Asher buried deep within himself.

This storyline initially seemed similar to others I’ve read and heard of, but this book has nuances that provide a unique experience with depth and is filled with events that provoked disgust, hope, pity, and even a profound sadness that held my attention with no intention of releasing it until the last page. I wholly appreciated the trauma-oriented experience of each character, which highlighted the many layers and perfectly crafted facades that many carry after past events have shattered their very being. In transparency, there were some grammatical errors, but they did not affect my reading experience to a point that I didn’t enjoy this book. In fact, I couldn’t read this book quickly enough, furiously chasing the resolution while passionately hoping for the best outcome in the disturbing web that Asher and June are trapped in!

This book was sent to me by the author for an honest review.

First, a small heads-up: please read the trigger warnings before starting this book.

To be totally honest, I really liked the concept. A therapist and her patient, and the patient has two personalities that idea immediately caught my attention. It had a lot of potential to be intense and psychologically twisted.

But my main issue was how fast everything happened.

The FMC fell for him after just a few sessions and I kept asking myself… how? She barely knew him. Their relationship escalated way too quickly, especially in the early sessions, and it made it hard for me to fully believe the connection between them.

Then the whole kidnapping situation and other events felt like they moved at lightning speed. There were moments where I felt like there were gaps between scenes, like things jumped forward without enough build-up.

Another thing the warning says this is pitch black dark romance. Honestly… other than the eye socket scene, I didn’t really find it that dark.

But maybe that just means I’m a little sick in the head at this point 🤷🏻‍♀️

Overall, the idea behind the story was interesting, but I wish the relationship development and pacing had been slower and deeper.

Tangled by Mara Noir is a compact but unsettling novella that follows Asher, a man dragging the weight of a deeply traumatic upbringing, and June, his friend’s cousin who has just opened her therapy practice. Asher’s past is shaped by a father whose cruelty pushed him into unthinkable situations, and June steps in hoping to guide him through the fallout. What unfolds is a story that blurs the line between healing and unraveling, and it raises the question of whether anyone can truly outrun the darker parts of themselves.

For such a short read, it moves quickly and delivers plenty of spice. It’s also undeniably dark. Noir doesn’t shy away from disturbing moments, and more than once I had to pause and remind myself this was fiction. If you’re sensitive to certain themes, it’s worth checking the content warnings beforehand.

Despite the heavy subject matter, I found the story engaging and the dynamic between Asher and June compelling. Noir’s writing has an addictive quality, and I’m curious to see where she goes next.

Thank you to Mara Noir for the ARC. I’m leaving this review voluntarily.

ARC received from the author in exchange for an honest review.

There are reasons why having an editor improves your book. A dev editor will let you know when your story is repetitive, will sort out exposition for you, will leave suggestions about showing not telling and will help you with your structure and storytelling. A line editor will fix your awkward sentences, ensure the story flows smoothly from chapter to chapter, paragraph to paragraph, line to line. A copy editor will ensure there are no spelling errors, grammatical mistakes, tense issues and missing words.

Someone along the way will also let you know that a stomach cannot be filled from water entering the vagina.

It's clear Tangled wasn't edited before publication. If it had been, at the very least the MMC's DID diagnosis would have been swiftly removed.

Tangled tries so hard to be offensive, but offensive - when written so poorly - is just boring. The book is riddled with errors, hops tenses mid-paragraph, has poor pacing, repeats itself, overdoes exposition, and is 'offensive' for the sake of it. If you're into the dark romance genre, I'd suggest picking up books with similar themes which have been edited.

Tangled by Mara Noir — 0 ⭐️ DNF
DNF
Thank you for the opportunity to ARC this but it wasn’t for me. This was my first DNF. I couldn’t even get past 2-3 chapters. I couldn’t get into the story. It was disappointing. There were way too many mistakes. I’m not sure if there was an alpha/beta team for this or even an editor but it definitely needed one. I don’t knock anyone’s work ever but whenever I have MORE highlighted mistakes than words on the page — something is wrong. It makes it sad because I couldn’t even read the whole thing. If it wasn’t for the mistakes, MAYBE this story could have been something. It did have potential but I just couldn’t get into it. I was trying to figure out what the sentence was supposed to mean rather than enjoying the story. Next time, maybe try to put together an alpha/beta team to help with the story.

I did reach out to this author via email and included everything stated above. I even suggested postponing the release of the book and putting together an alpha team along with finding another editor. I heard back once that they’d postpone then never heard back again.

Thank you to Mara Noir for my copy of this book. I received this novella as an arc reader for my honest opinion so here it is.

I rated this novella 4.5 ✨

Asher is a troubled and damaged man and we follow him through his journey as he revisits his past.

This is a standalone novella that follows Asher and June. It is told in dual POV.

Holy, this book was like crack. I just couldn't put it down. It was so good and fast paced so I read through it like a breeze. The prologue grabbed my attention right away and the rest of the book didn't let it go.

I had some high hopes for this book and it certainly didn't disappoint me. The plot was so good and interesting. I haven't read anything like it before.

This was my first Mara Noir book and I can tell you it won't be my last. I ate this book up. It is definitely a pitch black book and you should definitely check the trigger warnings, but I really enjoyed this book.

I would recommend this novella to anyone that likes a short pitch black romance. If you like that this book I think is for you.

This book left me with mixed feelings. On one hand, I enjoyed it, but at the same time, I couldn’t shake the sense that something was missing. I really liked the central idea, but I feel it was developed too quickly, leaving certain gaps and topics that could have been explored in greater depth. Some of the themes addressed didn’t come across as entirely sincere or well handled.
The trigger warnings suggest a strong, complex story, yet while reading, I felt that the book lacked the level of depth those warnings implied. Mental health is an intricate and full of edges subject, and it felt somewhat superficial here, especially in a novel that portrays a protagonist dealing with serious mental disorders and past trauma. I would have loved to see more of the Asher/Kaiden dichotomy and a deeper exploration of their internal struggles to prevail.

That said, I don’t want to discourage anyone from reading this book. On the contrary, I hope it reaches many readers, and I genuinely offer this as constructive criticism so the author can continue to grow and keep sharing her work with us.

A very dark psychological er@tic romance. If you're looking for a short twisted and dark read this is the book for you.

Asher is a very damaged man when he finally thinks he's run far enough from his past; strange things begin to happen as the monsters of his past try to drag him back there. When his friend becomes worried for him he encourages him to reach out to a therapist. Asher reluctantly goes to get his friend off his back that's when he meets June but June might be in more danger than she realises.

Overall I really enjoyed this book as twisted as it was. I really loved the complexities of the MMC’s character, I did wish however MMC had more time with the FMC to establish more of a connection/Romance before the other events unfolded. This has all the things I love in a horror er@tica from the unhinged acts and the C@ptor x c@ptive dynamic. It was a quick fun read.

Tangled, written by Mara Noir, is a standalone pitch-black psychological erotic romance. This one touches on a lot of heavy triggers like torture and SA.

The book follows Asher, a man who has buried his brutal upbringing and traumatic past, and June, a therapist who has just opened her own practice. With June’s help, he hopes to navigate some current issues he is having. Sometimes, you can’t outrun your past. Sometimes, it follows you, determined to take control.

This book will have its claws in you from the prologue and will not let go until the very end. I definitely devoured this book and look forward to the next one. If pitched black is your style and you don’t mind a full page of trigger warnings, this one is for you!

Thanks to Mara Noir for gifting me an eARC of Tangled. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Warning ⚠️: if you don’t like dark, dark romances, then this book is not for you! I was fortunate enough to receive an advanced copy and let me tell you! I might be slightly traumatized 😂😂. Although traumatized, I cannot lie, Mara can tell a dang story!!! I mean from the very beginning, she sucked you in. And she did not slow walk you into the crazy. NOPE! She dragged your butt in from the very beginning..this book had me on the edge of my seat wanted to read more, but scared at the same time! For my ultra dark romance readers, you should definitely read Tangled. Heck, if you are unsure read the dang book and just book a counseling session after hahaha. Whelp I’m off to pray, meditate and talk to my counselor!

I really enjoyed the darkness and the psychological aspects to this short story. I enjoyed the differences in the 3 main characters. I do wish there were a bit more put into the therapy session to really build on the influence in the story. There was a particular scene that really threw me off because June immediately knew a name that she shouldnt have know yet and the autgor skipped right past it instead of explaining how she could have known that fact. There were also quite a few grammical errors, mostly just simple spelling mistakes but they did interrupt the reading flow a bit and i feel like they should have been easily caught during the editing phase. The ending felt a bit rushed but it was still done nicely.

This book is PITCH BLACK!! Read your Triggers! This author gave us a 3-page menu!

Told in dual POV, this is the story of what happens when you attempt to push aside your trauma without working through it and attempting to move on.

The darkness starts immediately in the prologue. We do get a HEA, and these characters deserve it after what they have gone through.

I adored our FMC! She was strong-willed and didn't shy away even when the going got very tough. She knew what she wanted and fought for it.

If you are looking for a short, pitch Black, dark romance that will keep you on your toes, you should definitely check this one out!

I received an advance copy of this book and I'm leaving my honest review voluntarily.

The trigger warnings alone had me wanting to read this.

It is dark, and at times unsettling but in the best possible way.
It was a short read, and I feel that it was a little rushed because of the length of the book.
Perhaps thats because it was good and I wanted more.
There were a few grammar errors, but it didn't take anything away from the plot.

You route for Asher to fight back, and go save the girl, I personally also felt a very small pang of sympathy for Kaiden. Given how vile Kaiden was, this is superb work by the author.

This one is definitely dark, so PLEASE check your trigger warnings! As someone who loves a good dark read and horror movies, I enjoyed reading this. It's dark, twisted, and full of emotion. Did I stay up late the read the whole book when I have work early in the morning? Yes. Will I be exhausted? Also yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely😂 My only issue I had with it, was that it definitely needed some more editing. There was a lot of grammar that needed fixed and sentences that made zero sense. I definitely enjoyed reading the story but the book itself just needed a little more TLC before being finalized. But I definitely recommend reading it. Again, please check all the trigger warnings first.

Kaiden / Asher is the MOST unhinged deranged MMC I have ready thus far 😅. This book straight away gets you hooked on wanting to know more or where the hell this story will go. And you’ll never in a million years guess what he does is f@&ked up!

June the moment we met her you just felt like this is his girl and sure enough she is! Girl after my heart wanting to make it in her career field and boy does she end up getting a rare one of a kind case.

This is one to have you hooked and one you’ll never forget about! MUST READ!

I received this book as part of an ARC group in turn for an honest review. The concept of the book was good, and for the most part was a good read, but there were some grammar mistakes and sometimes it was hard to follow who was talking.
June also mentioned that she had a thing for Asher before she ran into him at the cafe, but it would have been nice to read about that to help build the reality of her feelings. Just seemed to have some missing plot points like that.
I’ll definitely check out more of her books though.

This is a new author for me. I ran across a post where they asked for ARC readers and I am glad I was chosen. This was a fast paced read. Full of trauma that creates drama later on. The characters a lovable, except for one. You’ll know when you read it. The author spun a web to where you might feel bad for the villain. This is a dark dark romance. Take the trigger warnings seriously, because this book is jam packed with them. Overall the story was great. It even had a happy ending which I honestly did not see coming. All in all I recommend this quick pitch black read. Thank you for the ARC!

Read the trigger warnings, there is some seriously messed up things happening in this book. If you that’s not your cup of tea, you should step away now. Morally black MMC and the FMC who falls for him anyways. He endured a messed up childhood. She goes against her father’s wishes to prove him wrong. Together they find a love that works for the two of them. Fast moving story. I feel that some things could have had a bit more detail so they flowed a bit better and weren’t confusing. Overall I’d say 3.5 stars so I rounded it up to 4. Ends with a HEA.

I received an ARC for my honest review

I enjoyed this book and read it quickly. Very dark themes and triggers so check them before reading. FMC resonates with me as I try to see the good in others even when perhaps I shouldn’t. June tries to play it safe but ends up breaking rules to be with the MMC. My only “complaint” would be it felt a bit rushed and I would like to have had more of a relationship between the main characters before the trouble started. Hence 4 stars instead of 5. Still highly recommend

Asher is Mr. Talk-You-Through-It and damnnnnnnnn does he deliver. This is pitch-black dark romance at its finest—twisted, gripping, and absolutely addictive. It keeps you on your toes the whole time, and you’ll constantly find yourself wondering if the FMC might actually be the unhinged one here.
The emotions hit hard. You feel every heartbreak, every crack, every unraveling moment. You’ll want to fix everyonebecause wow… they all need it.
I can’t wait to read more from this author—what a wild, emotional, beautifully dark ride.

Arc read -

Definitely check the trigger warnings on this book. Very dark themes and not a book for everyone. Not an easy read if you aren’t into darker themes.
Novella length was good and chapters were quick to get through.
I enjoyed the dual pov as we could see things from all characters views, this helped with the story as there wasn’t a lot of story building at the start due to novella length.

This was a very dark read. The plot was great and triggers are many and very explicit. I liked the relationship between the main characters i just wished that the build up to their feelings together was a bit more explored and indepth so further in the book doesn't feel so disjointed with the conclusion. To build the strong feelings so the strong feelings can overcome sort of thing. Still a very good read and I hope to see more from this author.

Phew... we start with Asher who works in I.T. His coworkers cousin opens her own therapist location and he convinces Asher to go to her just to give her business, but Asher is having issues of missing time, money being spent, people disappearing and no clue what's happening. June realizes that Asher is literally living two lives and helps bring them together for herself and him. Def not for the faint of heart this story is full of torture and choices

This is a short novella dark romance that gives you a patient/doctor trope. Asher meets with a psych doctor, June, to discuss his mental health as he’s dealing with gods darker side, Kaiden. The relationship between these two changes as June is trying to help Asher come to terms with what he’s experiencing and how to handle it. Read TWs prior to jumping in as this deals with some dark things that may trigger some.

So I want to start by saying I am not a writer and I have great respect for writers. But as a reader I an giving my honest opinion, while I really enjoyed the concept of this book, I feel like there was so much that could have been told. I felt like there was so much more that could have been shared, so much back story that I wanted to know. I enjoyed the story but just was wanting so much more. Please check your triggers and give the book a chance.
