When John and Billy Daggon moved to Burdine, they were told one hard-and-fast Don't stay out past sunset.
The rule started decades earlier, after mysterious mountain bats wreaked havoc on the town. At least that's what a neighbor said.
Initially, the brothers shrugged off the story as legend. Then one of the legendary creatures attacked John. Now, John's only chance to survive is to find a flower hidden deep in the mountain bats' lair.
Will they find a cure before it's too late, or will John lose his humanity and succumb to the mountain bat's curse?
By far my favorite book of 2026. It was so good, the story pulled me in within the first 5 pages. I wasn't alive in the 80s but this book made me feel like I was. I loved the sibling relationship in this book, I would say one of the best sibling relationships I've ever read in a book. I loved the suspense and action of it. I enjoyed the friendships in it to. Brock Enloe came to the book club my library had, he even read us part of his new book. One of the nicest authors I've ever met.
Fantastic, fun read! As an ’80s kid, I especially loved the nostalgic vibe throughout the story. It really added to the atmosphere and made the book even more enjoyable. This was a true page-turner with spooky suspense, a great pace and plenty to keep me hooked. I flew through it! Such an impressive debut from the author and I can’t wait to see where the story goes next. Definitely looking forward to the next installment!
If you ever enjoyed the Hardy boys as a kid this is a book that you will absolutely love. Two brothers move because of their Dad’s job. Both are amazing basketball players who make the team. Of course they make friends and find girlfriends. But what about the whole you can’t go outside at night? Mountain bats? Mystery about the closed off mountain pass from trains long ago? There is the mystery we loved from the Hardy boys only this time it is the Daggon boys. I have met this author and he is as down to earth as they come. He took the time to talk to me about the book at a book event and even signed it as well. Check it out I promise you won’t be disappointed.
I couldn't put this book down. Read the entire book in one day. The cover caught my attention because it reminded me of my young adult books. The story was captivating and thrilling. The characters were so believable and storyline was nostalgic of high school days in the 1980's minus the monsters of course. But the author consistently kept the time period in mind when telling the story. I can't wait till the next one comes out. I highly recommend this book.
I couldn’t put this book down! Every chapter flowed and connected extremely well leaving you with a sense of adventure and nostalgia. The storytelling in this novel amazed me, and I can’t wait to see if there will be any more after this!!! Please make it a series!!!
Also did I mention how cute the couple of John and Cassie were?!?
I really enjoyed reading this book! The story was captivating and was hard to put down. I finished it in two days and just didn’t want it to end. I can’t wait for the sequel! I highly recommend giving A Bat Among Bruins a shot, you won’t regret it.
