HE WANTED PEACE. HE FOUND WAR. Twin brothers Conn and Cole Sullivan couldn’t have been closer.
They worked, fought, and dreamed side by side until a bitter dispute set them on separate paths.
Cole built a homestead and married a good woman.
Conn drifted west and earned a reputation as a gunman.
Hearing of Cole’s marriage, Conn rides that way, planning to apologize, hang up his guns, and start fresh alongside the brother he misses.
But it’s too late.
Someone burned the homestead, murdered Cole, and left his young widow reeling.
Now, Conn must pick up the pieces… and the guns he swore to lay down.
Because in killing a man of mercy, they unleashed a man of vengeance.
Conn is another classic John Deacon Western with a touch of romance.
“John Deacon writes the kind of Westerns I like to read—gritty and fun with lots of heart.” — Don Bentley, New York Times Bestselling author of the Matt Drake thrillers; the Tom Clancy Jack Ryan, Jr. novels; and the Vince Flynn Mitch Rapp series
I waited somewhat impatiently for this book to drop and it was definitely worth the wait. But here I am again waiting for book 2! I encourage you to download and enjoy this great book!
I think I gave this novel a 3 star rating. It wasn't a bad western - but it wasn't a real page turner.
The hero is only 24 - so I think the author packed a lot more things into the protagonist's young life than could be realistically accomplished.
The other problem I had with this story was the villain wasn't the smartest tool in the shed - and how he rounded up the cast of character's in his gang in such a short time - means he was smarter than he looked - and he didn't look like much.
Ever since the movie "Wind River" came out - authors and film makers alike attempt to capture a wild free form shoot out - near the end of their stories.
But it is doable and spoiler alert - there is a book two.
Another fantastic book from John Deacon. I truly enjoy all of his work and encourage you to give them a chance if you enjoy Warns Westerns with a strong Christian undertone to them.
A heart wrenching story about the love and bond between identical twin brothers. Conn walks on the wild side Wiskey, Women, and guns but still follows the law. Cole follows the path their father preaches about reads the Bible worships Jesus, works hard, falls in love and marrys the prettiest girl he’s ever seen. After years of living the wild life Conn is finally ready to settle down and make a homestead next to his brother Cole. He arrives at Cole and Mary’s to find the house burned to the ground, his brother hanging in a cottonwood tree and Mary missing. Remembering what Cole had told him when they were boys how he would build his house he starts searching for Mary and finds her unharmed but devastated. This is really a good book from the first to last page. Strongly recommend it Can’t wait to read book 2 John Deacon is a great author
Conn Sullivan is gun handy. Not an outlaw but he tends to use his gun to answer problems and he is getting tired of it. His identical twin brother, Cole is more even keel. He invites Conn to come homestead the land next to him and his wife Mary. By the time Conn gets there he sees that his brother has been brutally murdered, but Mary had escaped. The house was burned and still smoldering and the tracks were still fresh. Conn learned that there were 11 of them and 3 had headed to town. Now there are only 8. Conn follows the tracks to a shack and found one of them shot. Now there are 7 and these take up the rest of the book. It will come to no surprise to the reader that at the end, the number is 0. The action in this one never lets up! Hopefully CONN 2 won't be far behind.
A well told story that reveals strong family ties and values
Conn and his twin brother Cole are at the center of a western drama with some evildoers and the good people of the community pitted against each other. Conn is a very good western hero with challenges of his own who takes up the huge task of rectifying the aftermath of his twin’s death with determination and promises he keeps. Good read.
After serving in Viêt Nam, I came home, married, and was on my honeymoon when man landed on the moon. I was a reader all my life but only fell in love with westerns in my later years. I read all the novels of the western authors that you read. My greatest compliment to you is that you are among those great authors that we both honor and you shine among them.
John Deacon is my favorite western author. His books are very entertaining and even though his books are usually in a series he never ends his books with a cliffhanger. Conn Sullivan finds his twin murdered by a ruthless gang of no accounts. Conn vows to kill all eleven of them to avenge his brother.
John Deacon comes through again bringing an excellent story filled with action, twist, strong integrity and true western grit. Conn is committed to keeping his word even when the obstacles become overwhelming. Looking forward to reading Conn 2.
After finishing a book on Kindle, I saw this title. I was so excited because I’ve read and loved every book by John Deacon. I didn’t realize he’d released another one. I immediately began reading and didn’t stop until the end. John Deacon has written another great story! I hope he writes many more!
I read stories of the early west a lot and always watch for your new books. This one had a busy action with the characters that tugged on my emotions and I find myself drawn towards the next book immediately. This was quite a story but definitely not finished. Thank you for this special book. Jeanette Mitchell
I have read everything that John Deacon has written and Conn, as in all other books dud not disappoint. Great plot, strong characters, and integrity the protagonists. I always root for the strong, principled lead characters and it is easy in Conn as in all Deacon's other books. Read this and his other novels. You can thank me later.
Ive read everything John Deacon has wrote. And just when I think that he couldn't do any better, I come upon Conn. This book is wonderful.John deacon brings the story alive, and you feel like you're actually there. And you're living the story, wonderful wonderful book
Writing is a bit abrupt, but it gets the story told. And after all, that’s what’s important. For what it’s worth, I’ve written several westerns myself. This one is more Louis Lamour than mine, but I recommend it because it feels realistic.
Hatchets, guns, fire, noose and dynamite - action from beginning to end. Mr Deacon never disappoints and keeps you riveted to the story. What about Mary?? Anxiously awaiting for Conn 2!
Great book, loved the plot. Having twin grandsons of our own that added to the enjoyment. YOu will be pleased if you give this book a read, I definitely am glad I turned the pages. THANKS John for an enjoyable Western, loved it.
Enjoyed reading this book. Mr. Dragon's writing reminded me of C. J. Petit. I was stationed at Ft. Carson CO in late '71. Spent many weekends in Leadville, Buena Vista, Fairplay, and Salads area.
Conn and Cole are twin brothers. There is inherent strength in that, no matter what else happens. I enjoy reading John Deacons books because they are well written and always include faith and spirituality.
I was very impressed with this book. I read a lot of westerns But most of them are pretty 1 dimensional. This one is not. I'm looking forward already to reading the next installment
The story was great. I am a twin, and know how close you can be. The strong feeling of protection and love is always there. Thank you for a great read. I will go on to the next book.
In his books, John Deacon always makes the distinction between righteous killing and murder. Although the main character exacts justice, he understands it doesn't bring satisfaction
A story of love, hate, violence, faith & redemption
Very good store that had a great plot, lots of twists and turns, sorrow and grief, love of family a d plenty of old west action. Hard to put down this book
A great action-packed book, and a welcome return to form after the slower-paced Yonder series. I liked the main characters but wished more of the story was told from Mary’s perspective!
