All is calm, all is bright... until the goat screams.
It’s Christmas Eve in downtown Jacksonville, and the weather isn't the only thing that’s unseasonably warm. At the Screaming Goat Coffee Company, the pressure is on.
Hal, the shop’s well-meaning but misguided manager, has unveiled his latest marketing a coffee mug that lets out a blood-curdling scream every time you take a sip. While Hal thinks it's a holiday smash, his staff—sensible Josh, artistic Ashley, and bubbly new-hire Daisy—think it’s a nightmare before Christmas.
Between a botched almond-milk order for series regular Alan Harrison, a clumsy encounter with a Jaguars football legend, and a relentless chorus of screeching porcelain, the holiday spirit is running on fumes.
But as the closing shift approaches, a mysterious stranger in a red velvet suit walks through the door. Is he just a customer with a sweet tooth for Spiced Almond-Nog Lattes, or is he the miracle the team needs to survive the night?
From the world of Alan Harrison and Layla comes Holiday Hustle, a hilarious and heartwarming short story about terrible ideas, coffee shop chaos, and the magic of the season.
I am a native of Jacksonville, FL. Born and raised. From the earliest times I can remember, I wanted to tell stories. I made them up in my head, acted them out in my backyard. I told myself to relax my mind and get to sleep.
I could never manage to write them down. At least not other than a few short stories I wrote as a kid and again as a young adult.
I have finally overcome that fear of putting my work out there. My book is being published this week, and I am not arrogant enough to think it is the best thing ever written. However, it speaks to me, and hopefully, it will speak to a few others, allowing them to derive enjoyment from reading as I did from writing.
What a fun little read about the hijinks of a fictional coffee shop featuring many of the main characters from Sutton's debut novel. I hope he continues these tales. They are cute and funny.
This makes me happy every time a read it. Cozy, coffee shop coworkers and comedy. And a surprise appearance from my new favorite deceptive. JE Sutton is great with characters and relationships. Get yourself a treat 😁
